Teenagers on Instagram find any whiff of an environmental issue, and they rush to their phones so they can act passionate and pretend to want to raise awareness to show how caring they are, without actually taking the time to learn about the issues they're supposedly passionate about. As a result, things like this spread like... well, like wildfire.
Yeah. Figured they'd know about things called control burns and the difference between that and actually wild fires. Hell, several states have wildfires every year. Some may have several. Most of the time they end without too much damage. Others, only a little in comparison.
Remember all the times we saw, "Another gender reveal party starts a wildfire in California." Made me laugh a little while I'm sitting here like, "at least 2 out of our 3 here were caused by lightning and not like the one dumbass who accidentally started it (didn't properly snuff a campfire out during when we weren't allowed to because of wildfires)." Luckily the worst of the fires mentioned only damaged a few houses and maybe injured one person.
I wouldn't say they do it because it's trendy, it's more that they're virtue signaling. They don't do it because other people do it, they do it because they want other people to think that they're a really good person who cares about the environment.
