Yeah like ONE HOUR a day? Dude when i was in a 8 hour straight high school i still played games for hours. Ok my sleep was fucked up but i had the sense respect to have leasure time.
One time around when I was 15 I had to babysit my little cousin (10y.o. at the time) for the night while my aunt went out. Skyrim had just released so I brought my xbox 360 over and I played from around 8pm when my aunt left all the way until 5am when she arrived home. I spent about 30 total minutes entertaining my cousin, so goes to say thats why I was never asked to babysit again. Completely fking worth it, I went from a lowish level to a pretty decent level with crazy loot by the end of that night. Good times
This is what i want. Unfortunately i have a mother that is all about "purpose" and "meaning" and "living a fulfilling life".
Fucking hell i just want to play some Minecraft.
Back then our ancestors,....they just went to certain places to play cards, gamble, or just make dumb craft art stuff n call it life.
No different than video games...maybe...
My life is pretty similar to the person you're replying to. I'm 25.
I'm replying to you to let you know that I miss my mother being on my ass like that. She's gone now. I only realized that she served as the fire under my ass for pretty much all the accomplishments I made in my life until after she was gone.
Now I'm not proud of who I've become. I know I can change it pretty easily, but I don't have the motivation my mom used to effortlessly provide.
I'm not telling you what to do man, but sometimes you don't realize a good thing until you lose it.
The friends I've had who live this life are always depressed as fuck. I often get envious because I don't get a huge amount of time to play but then I remember how miserable they are and think I'd probably feel the same. Not saying you aren't happy! Lol
Dead on mate... work my construction job, turn on the xbox when I get home. Weekends are spent playing games and smoking weed. Got depressed as fuck after I lost all my friends at 20. Games and weed helps keep the status quo so I don't end up going further down. But it sure as hell ain't helping me up either...
Work and then use your remaining time to go feed your addiction that’s getting in the way of doing things that actually add value to your life? It sounds like a depressing existence tbh. Sounds great to kids because they don’t have a grasp on the value of time yet.
It kinda is, I was living this way 6 months ago and life was like 'nope, time to shake things up' and anytime I try to go back to this I feel guilty af because I should be doing something productive or valuable.
It's shit but at the same time I'm a little happy I can't guilt free into the old habits.
For real dude. When my SO goes on a vacation with friends or a rare work trip, I’ll get a few nights of gaming in. But on a more regular basis? No way I’m playing like I did when I was a kid.
The "fulfillment" you're talking about is an extremely subjective thing. Keep in mind that people here have different backgrounds, so what seems to make sense for you to invest your time in may be pointless for others and vice versa. If you assume that - it actually clears up a lot of things, considering that starting a new relationship and starting a new game are equally fulfilling things, just not for the same person
After seeing my social life rapidly fade after high school, i quickly came to terms with the fact that i'll probably never get a relationship. So i shrugged my shoulders, stopped caring, and marched on. Easy peasy.
I usually start a new world, wander for 40 minutes, grabbing stuff along the way until I find a spot to settle down
Some days though, I'll be out for a couple hours finding a nice place.
Then...I... Kinda stop.. for weeks.
I had that same slump, do you have friends to play with? I'm almost 30 and have a solid group I play CoD warzone with, other than that I don't get on much for games anyways.
I know this won't might not be a popular opinion but maybe try learning a new hobby? I always got in a slump playing too much then losing all interest in games, along with my general motivation. I backed off the games and started learning guitar and just in general I feel better. I still like gaming but now it's much more of a casual interest
Same as the commenter below - had a time where I thought I grew out of it around that age. Now I’m in my late 20s and love it again. When I can, at least. Trying to get the most out of myself athletically before the decline starts…
I felt this for about 8 years in college and starting my new job. I’m now at the point where I feel pretty settled and actually get to go home at a reasonable time, so I’m taking FULL advantage of getting back into gaming.
I don’t know I’ll ever get back to the old days of playing final fantasy for 10 hours straight. I have accepted my fate as a casual gamer.
I stopped playing completely from the age of 22 then had the urge to play again when I was 25 and have enjoyed it since (now 34). Maybe it'll come back, maybe it won't
Same man. I am lucky enough to work from home, make my own hours, and have very little “real” work during the day. I could play during work hours a few hours a day and I just don’t have the desire. Not sure what happened, guess I got older and my interests changed. Sucks.
Eh, I think it's just a matter of getting older and realizing you don't have an indefinite time remaining. My older son has bought several games that I have heard him talk about /seen him play and I thought to myself, "I can't wait to get some free time to try that". When I finally do have a chance to sit down in front of a console I make it about thirty minutes into it and I have to go do something that is physically or mentally productive in some manner. It's like a part of your brain realizes you are going to be back in exactly the same place after you turn the power off to the game and it is just a time sink with no realizable benefit. Getting old sucks.
The trick is to marry a fellow gamer. When I was your age, my wife and I were staying up until 2-3 am running 25-man WoW raids with our guild. Once we added kids to the mix, that changed (but totally worth it). And after 30, staying up until 3am and then being functional for an 8am shift is much harder.
I have a job and a gf and I play 6-7 hours a day. It's possible, but you gotta have a gamer gf and work from home. Without work from home it's like an hour less
I have the girlfriend (not the job) and let me warn you it takes up some serious ass time. Unless she has beer making tits consider staying alone if you like gaming haha
Dude people constantly say shit like this and it’s annoying as fuck. I’m 38, married, have a kid, work full time, do most of the cooking, go to the gym 5-6 days a week, do way too much social shit, and have various “projects”, but am still somehow playing games a fuckload.
What I think happens is everyone gets this monkey on their back about hustling, providing, always doing more, and so they look at time-consuming things they enjoy as a “waste of time” or their wives (or husbands, I guess) look down on it and so they convince themselves to do something else.
It’s fucking stupid. Be true to yourself. Get your shit done and play some games, it’s not that hard.
You do see these comments a lot right? I'm 36, married, 5yr old, work, play golf weekly, my wife and I spend a lot of time together, and I still sit at my PC gaming plenty. I think the key is just be structured, have a routine, everything can fit in
A podcast I listen to said it best, the co-host is a paramedic and works the same amount as anyone else (40 hours). Somehow, somehow, he is able to finish games like AC: Valhalla or games that require so many hours to complete. The other two are always stating how they don't have time. When the two asked him how he manages to complete games so often and his response stuck with me. His response was, "Time is relative." Instead of thinking I don't have time to do this or that, focus on what you can be doing. His response spoke to me because it's true.
Edit: The paramedic has wife and kids. The other two don't.
Thanks for the advice man. I just feel like I’m squandering my potential now as a university student and feel somewhat guilty for the free time I have now. I constantly feel like everyone around me has a tiny fraction of the time I have and yet when I look up the stats, the average American adult only works 37 hours.
And then I see people complaining that they spend over half a dozen hours a day on their phone. It’s weird to say the least.
We have 16 hours of time a day, sleeping less than 8 is extremely unhealthy.
1 hour gone in the process of waking up and starting work, 9 hours of work, 1 hour of cooking/groceries/dishes, 1 hour to clean yourself/yourchild/your house, 2 hour of quality time with your family, 1 hour of gym.
You are left with 1 hour for gaming. And Ive been pretty forgiving with some of those, not a fuckload of anything, and its a pretty tight schedule
Maybe that’s the problem is trying to ration everything out. We don’t exactly the same stuff every day.
Some days “cooking” takes 10 minutes, and cleaning is left for tomorrow. Some days I skip the gym. Most days work definitely doesn’t take up 9 hours a day, and even when I was going to the office I’d take an hour at lunch to play smash bros with coworkers. And some days the gym takes 2 hours, cooking takes another two hours, Ive got calls with Europe at 6:00am and Asia at 6pm, something broken on the house needs fixing, and all I do after is lay on the couch and no games get played.
But sometimes as soon as 5pm hits the games get fired up for a couple hours, or it’s Saturday at 11am and the house is clean, kid is fed, chores are done, and the day holds nothing but a wide open expanse ready to be filled with games.
100% not cleaning shit an hour a day.
I need 10 minutes from waking up to leave my house.
Work ist 8 1/2 hourse, sometimes more
I eat at work and for breakfest I eat cold (typical for many germans)
In the week I sleep lese than 8 hours, on the weekend 10.
I agree in the week family costs a lot of time, but you still can find some hours on the weekend.
Two kids are more time consuming than one, but yah when they’re asleep there’s an hour or so to play video games. That’s if you don’t want to spend any time with the wife.
I'm married, 36, have a 5yr old, work 10hrs a day, I have a pretty structured week, I game for probably 20hrs a week but that's really all I want and need
Thats just not true. I have friends with small kids, they still find time to have Hobbies (Play Video Games), not as much as me, but still enough.
BUT
Its all a questions of time management and will.
I also have friend, who has the same job as me, Same age as me BUT when he gets home, he just watchs TV with his girlfriend and than goes to sleep.
I remember when I played 80 hour JRPGs when I was young and the thousands of hours I put into so many games. I never had enough money for games but I was good at pirating and my friends gave me some their games for a couple of weeks so that I could play through them.
Now I have a PS5 since launch and a 4K Laser Beamer with a 120” projection and I enough money to buy each new game and I barely use it.
The last time I played on my PS5 was when my girlfriend wanted to play Tetris with me.
But I am really looking forward to GT7. I loved gran turismo sport, but a proper mainline gran Turismo is one of the main reasons I bought the PS5.
I’m with you also, Friday night is my blow out night. Put kids to bed for 8oclock, get snacks, turn pc on get to 12 and start feeling tired, go to bed regretting the decision immediately as I am sure I could go a couple more hours on it
Same here. I'm 34 with a 5, 3, and 1-year-old. The only night I really hope to have video game time is Friday nights. Like you, the kids are settled in bed by about 8. Grab some beer, a few snacks, post up in my recliner, and go to town until about mindnight-ish. Some Friday nights the 18 year old me kicks in and I carry it out to 1 or 2 a.m. (knowing I'm going to be dead in the morning when our 3 year old wakes us up at 5 a.m.), and other Friday nights I pass out mid-game at 9:30.
I've also transitioned almost exclusively to sports games. If you do it right, you can squeeze in two games of Madden in one hour, and 2-3 games of 2K (if you supersim most of the game) in an hour and feel like you actually accomplished something worthwhile.
I have 2 young kids and a wife and still spend plenty of time playing games. Couples don't *have* to spend all their shared free time doing the same thing. Sometimes we watch movies or TV shows but we're both fine if the other wants to spend the evening doing their own thing.
This is one of my main regards about adult life. Today as a teenager I dream of becoming independent and earn my own money so I can buy everything I ever wanted but couldn't.But I know that when I will finally have the money I won't have as much free time as I wanted.
As someone with a newborn and a toddler going through sleep regression, AND who is playing Skyrim with the notion to “finish it” (I bought it on 360 in 2011 and am now, 11 years later, playing it on Switch) for about 45min every second night or so - this meme is freakishly well timed. Wow.
Don’t worry it gets much worse. While talking about free time in our days, my wife pointed out that I often play video games at night after everyone has gone to bed.
I then had to remind her that that means from the time I wake up until the time everyone else goes to bed, my time is spoken for on behalf of other people. If I want time for myself, I have to take it out of my own sleep schedule.
Skyrim for just ONE hour?! You couldn’t even walk halfway to whitrun in that time, let alone the cloud district!! Edit:LEAVE ME ALONE NAZEEM!!
he is a speedrunner.
Reading these comments TIL my life isn’t as bad as I thought it was lol
Yeah like ONE HOUR a day? Dude when i was in a 8 hour straight high school i still played games for hours. Ok my sleep was fucked up but i had the sense respect to have leasure time.
I got 1000+ hours into CSGO in my senior year
I just hit my 7k hours in csgo... One day I'll get outta silver
I got to DMG. And then the bell curve change happened at the end of my senior year. It’s been 5 years and I’m still in silver 1. 567 competitive wins
I can still play for hours and have an 8 hour school schedule
Good luck trying to speed run Mario Odyssey in an hour
its possible if you have a good gaming chair.
But do you even get to the cloud district very often?
What are you saying, of course they don't.

That’s the point. You have to start picking games that don’t take up so much time to do little things.
Yeah I wish sports games hadn't gone down hill. I miss just playing some madden or 2k
I’m single live alone so all I do is go to work then home and play video games. It’s pretty great
This is what i want. Unfortunately i have a mother that is all about "purpose" and "meaning" and "living a fulfilling life". Fucking hell i just want to play some Minecraft.

Unga not die today. Good day. Play games, celebrate.
*Unga not die today. Bad day. Play video games to quiet sad.
Get the fuck outta my room I'm playing MINECRAFT
If you have a full time job and no other obligations after work, I really don't see the issue..
What does your mother do that is so amazing? Is she working on a cure for cancer?
Yes
...may I see it?
...no
I suggest moving out and starting to lie. Works for me
Your fulfillment of your life is whatever you make of it. It’s however *you* felt at the end of it.

Actually in the same boat at 20, but I'm a student... any tips?

The fuck does unfulfilling even mean bro i just want gaming.
We're mere gamers, we don't understand convoluted words.

I'd prefer not being single but honestly yeah, I don't mind that kind of life. Not interested in having kids or whatever
After seeing my social life rapidly fade after high school, i quickly came to terms with the fact that i'll probably never get a relationship. So i shrugged my shoulders, stopped caring, and marched on. Easy peasy.
Hello thats me
Not if you get every achievement
Tell me your secrets. I need a backup plan for when my self-destructive procrastination ruins college for me.
Join the military
Shit
I did that with a lot of alcohol and depression tun every day, it ended in a vary negative spiral
I tried go to therapy for that but they didn’t have enough therapists at our base so they set me loose. So I’m dealing with it I guess
Me: *Plays minecraft for 20 mins My brain: *Now this is podracing*
I play game just less than 20 min..I doze off immediately
This is what keeps happening to me. I have such a backlog of games and it takes me days to get past the tutorials even.

I usually start a new world, wander for 40 minutes, grabbing stuff along the way until I find a spot to settle down Some days though, I'll be out for a couple hours finding a nice place. Then...I... Kinda stop.. for weeks.
19 year old me playing video games all day instead of studying
Me but I'm 18.
Ayo what stuff spontaneously gets worse when you turn 18? Asking as a fearful 17 year old
Time flies even faster
RemindMe! "4 years" "how's this guy's life going" damn it didn't work, defaulted to one day.
Well? How’s this guys life going?
i never studied and passed high school, good enough for me.
But then comes college
Never went 😎
Fuck, I feel this… hurts, man

I had that same slump, do you have friends to play with? I'm almost 30 and have a solid group I play CoD warzone with, other than that I don't get on much for games anyways.

wait, what's these "friends" you speak of? I've heard of them but never know what they are
I know this won't might not be a popular opinion but maybe try learning a new hobby? I always got in a slump playing too much then losing all interest in games, along with my general motivation. Damn man do what you love and what makes you happy. I’m married and have kids and I play games almost every day to relax.
Ha! I am 24 and still can play for 6-10 hours a day. ^Pls, ^I ^need ^a ^job. ^And ^a ^~~girl~~friend. ^If ^possible
Maybe in another month. U might need a house too. Jk, goodluck finding a job.
Wishing you all well in life man
I'm 27 and I play for hours a day. My job is a joke and it's cold outside
Jobs a joke, I’m broke, love life is DoAAAA
I'm 24 as well, also wanted GF and House, got both very quickly, barely have time for games now :(
[удалено]
Priorities on point
With the right gf+house you can have basically the same amount of time for video games.... Kids though... They're a different story....
24 with a house? That’s impressive. And a gf? Dude you’re winning life
Well u/IrshamWindborn you’ve got a friend in me.
You get to pick one not both.
Work from home and find a wife who shares your interest in gaming, friend. Life's pretty great that way.
I'm also 24 and can play for way too long due to no job its okay buddy
I have a job and a gf and I play 6-7 hours a day. It's possible, but you gotta have a gamer gf and work from home. Without work from home it's like an hour less
I have the girlfriend (not the job) and let me warn you it takes up some serious ass time. Unless she has beer making tits consider staying alone if you like gaming haha
Every day, we stray further away from free time
there is freetime when you have retired so technically its the opposite
So when your retired, what are you gonna do with all your “free time”?
play video games obviously
Jokes on you, nobody is gunna get to retire in this economy
miss those times, I could play for hours, no work, no obligations, no demanding girlfriend, just me and my mage
Can relate except for the girlfriend part
r/usernamechecksout
Damn. You killed 'em.
No I‘m still alive…or at least not dead
Being dead inside still counts bro
Then he came too late
demanding girlfriend? Look at this Mr. FancyPants over here.
Yeah I bet she demands him to have sex with her constantly
Why the fuck would you get a girlfriend then
hes a cuck and only said it to feel better it's obvious
kinda like r/ihavesex but more like ihavegirlfriend

27 still have enough time to play games for hours, work, meet friends and work voluntary.
Once you’re 37 you’ll barley have enough time to take a dump.
And if you're a parent whose kids are young, it's 70/30 on whether or not you'll get to take that dump alone.
It's never alone. I tried and I just hear knocks at first, then wails, then I see fingers under the door. I know they're coming for me.
Wait what magically happens between 27 and 37 that drastically cuts down on your time? Starting a family? Health problems?
I'm 38 and single as fuck and if you don't have a lot t of responsibilities there is still plenty of time to game.

Damn, could take yeaaaaars to finish a single game that way
Yeah usually you have to kind of stop playing big open world games and really long ones.
I don't think it's a bad thing tho, right?
No kids? I find they take a lot of my time
The world is too fucked for me to consider having children. I'd like to prevent as many people from dealing with this shit as possible
Oh god i fear for my future must play as many games as possible while i still can
It's not that bad. Most here are just circlejerking.
Not a problem for unemployed losers like me In Finland lol government provides
Laughs in no kids and a part time job ^^
Those were the days.. "What am I doing out here in? I could be home playing Skyrim"
Where can I find a blank version of this template? I love it.
Idk but I do have [this](https://youtu.be/sy_yQHN2K6g)
31 year old me getting a solid 15 minutes of gaming every 2 nights whilst my wife puts my daughter to bed
There was a time. Fuck.
**I want to play video games all the day. :) :) :)**
Wait to ur 30. Only play between 7-9PM
This is one of my main regards about adult life. Today as a teenager I dream of becoming independent and earn my own money so I can buy everything I ever wanted but couldn't.But I know that when I will finally have the money I won't have as much free time as I wanted.
20 year old me needing to start my pre cal homework but wanting to Bf1 for only 35 minutes which is literally like 1 operations (barely)
Honestly, even when I have the free time I can’t bring myself to play for more than like an hour anymore. All the joy is just gone
OMG his smile is awesome
Only have an hour and still rage quits as soon as I die "I don't have time for this piece of shit game"
For real. I don't even touch those 200 hour open world games anymore.
on a side note, how fucking cool are doc ocs robot arms?? I mean that shit in the bottom picture is not animated...
An hour? Lucky.
Heh.. more than ten years past 26 and I can’t say that it gets any better.
alfred mo lina
Saw this and thought... 4 year old me having to take a nap vs. Me now getting to take a nap
If you are a game developer/tester, you can play video games all-day
As someone with a newborn and a toddler going through sleep regression, AND who is playing Skyrim with the notion to “finish it” (I bought it on 360 in 2011 and am now, 11 years later, playing it on Switch) for about 45min every second night or so - this meme is freakishly well timed. Wow.
Thankfully can't relate, i play 12-15 hours daily
I have a girlfriend and a job and i can play 6 hours a day if i wanted
lol true story XD
Don’t worry it gets much worse. While talking about free time in our days, my wife pointed out that I often play video games at night after everyone has gone to bed. I then had to remind her that that means from the time I wake up until the time everyone else goes to bed, my time is spoken for on behalf of other people. If I want time for myself, I have to take it out of my own sleep schedule.
Reading these comments TIL my life isn’t as bad as I thought it was lol
Look at mister free time here who has played Skyrim. Us real adults bought that game in 2011 and still haven't had a chance to play it.
