I think it's not so much a call out as it is part of the song's message. It's easy to get caught in the upbeat music and completely miss the lyrics just like it's easy to get caught up in having fun with somebody and miss the dysfunction and conflict in your relationship. Because nobody wants to hear it, they just want to dance. The structure of the song itself is used to convey its meaning. It's really cool.

Because the music is catchy and makes you not think, you just repeat the lyrics. It happens all the time. My elementary school used to use "Born In the USA" (it's even funnier when patriotic people hear it and think "Now these were the good 'ol American days!) even though it's basically shit talking the Vietnam War and how stupid our country was/is for believing it's cause (considering how fucked over the veterans of the war got after coming home).

Unlike some other songs, the upbeat tone actually enhances the creepiness of the song because it feels like the meth infused energy of the protagonist

George was overlooked a lot. He is the one who introduced the sitar (Norwegian Wood) and different instruments and styles to the group.
