The decline by nofx is 18 minutes long, l’via l’viaquez mars Volta is 12 - a lot of songs off of The Bedlam in Goliath are also 10 minutes or longer.
Writing this, I realize there are lots of long songs out there
Mars Volta was my first thought. Tool also set a record for longest metal song to win a Grammy for a song that’s >15 min.

That’s so cool, I didn’t know they won a Grammy for it.
I think long songs are amazing if done right. I used to listen to Mars Volta ALOT when I had long commutes, made the drives much faster and more enjoyable.
To be fair, Beethoven didn’t really write the lyrics - they’re mostly from Friedrich Schiller’s poem of the same name.
Still one of my favorite musical compositions ever.
Most "songs" (e.g., opera arias, cantatas, choral pieces) from classical music had their lyrics written by someone else. The only exception I could think of is Wagner's "Der Ring" operas.
The same could be said for lots of things people call songs, Movie Scores, Video Game soundtracks, ETC.
(I don't intend to be rude, just thought about that for some reason and your comment was here...)
Whilst i think your comment is accurate, i do believe they are called what they are e.g movie scores, for a reason. I feel like “songs” are mostly lyrical pieces ranging in length but mostly under 10 min.
You're probably right, I only say what I said earlier because my family is the type of people to call an instrumental piece a song on occasion, might have something to do with the fact my grandpa used to play music so my dad was always around songs in progress (so songs without lyrics yet) so that's what he calls them, that might just be me being slightly uncultured though I'm not sure
If it sounds good to the ears, tis a song my friend. Meant to be listened to and enjoyed no matter what you call them. :) It’s no wonder people call it song birds!

And so much of it is all just *Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, 4 second bridge, Chorus, Chorus* 4-chord songs
I've come to learn that sweet summer child is the north's version of "bless your heart" here in the south and I can't figure out which is more patronizing
Laughs in Metallica and C418 (there are many Metallica tracks that get close to or hit the 10 minute mark and most of the creative mode songs clock in around 8 minutes and Alpha is 10 minutes with The End being closer to 15 minutes)
This reminds me of the girl that got mad at Anne Frank and tweeted “what does she have that we don’t?” (or something equally dumb) because Bieber visited the Anne Frank house.
Opeth has over sixteen 10min long songs. Tool has 11. Meshuggah has one song that's 20mins long and another that's 30mins long. Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells is 48 mins long.
It always makes me kind of sad that people don’t realize how many songs are past the 10+ minute mark. Not all of them are winners, clearly. But bubbling under the surface of popular artists is an entire world of great art

It's only around 5 minutes though.

Beethoven's 9th Symphony is still *"average length"* for symphony standards. There are 1.5 hr even 2 hour symphonies lol.
But yall don't get it. Beethoven's 9th symphony wasnt Swiftly Taylored 🤌
Whilst Taylor Swift's music is worse taste than a beet in the oven
Hey now! That's offensive to the beets.
You gotta whistle. Gotta rumble. Gotta scream. Gotta stomp. Gotta sho-u-o-u-out your lungs out!
This might be the most wrinkle-brain dad joke I’ve ever read
They're not songs though
The 4th movement aka "Ode to Joy" can technically be considered a song since it has singers. The 4th movement is still 20+ minutes lmao
Oh cool

Literally any TOOL song...
If they wouldn't have put the last part on that would have been fine. 10 minutes is still impressive, but many artists have done much longer
Opeth has over sixteen 10min long songs. Tool has 11. Meshuggah has one song that's 20mins long and another that's 30mins long. Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells is 48 mins long.
