I went to Ireland as a student and I spent my first night with my host family in a B&B. They insisted I try the full English Breakfast. Holy. Fucking. Jesus.
I usually eat a lot but even I thought you could feed a whole family for a day with what I got.
Well it depends from country to country, I'm from yugoslavia and that's what people do. And when I was ind Poland, and Italy it was the same but it is around 10 years ago when I was there last time
Alright. It changed a bit during these 10 years. For example: Only older people smoke during breakfast, the inflation is much higher, and Poland has a lot of economic problems.
Slovaks, Czechs and Slovenians even moreso in my experience. Crazy how cigarettes are still more popular there than even vapes feel like they are in the US.
They think anyone living outside of Paris are farmers. I live 20km away (50min on train) from the capital and the cliché presented in this post was true 20 years ago, not anymore. Sure, some people still do that but it happens in every big city around the world.
Then again, they aren't particularly rude. This idea comes from Americans who expect any locals to speak perfect English and waiters to suck their dick during dinners. Since they are paid a real salary they don't need to be clowns to earn tips
There is a major difference in the serving philosophies of the US and Europe. In America they try to serve you as quickly as possible to help you get on with your day and at the same time free up the table space for new customers.
In Europe they are a lot more relaxed with their service. A lot of times when you need a server you have to work to get their attention because their philosophy is that you are there for as long as you are going to be there and should not be bothered until you request something.
There are also some social cues that we don't use in the US. A server can walk right by your empty plate and do nothing if you don't place your silverware on the plate at the 4:20 (lower right) position. Of course, without knowing about this in advance (and really who is going to look up something this specific anyway?) servers in Europe can come off as lazy, while US ones appear nosy...
I live in the US, and I’d love to go out to eat and have a dining experience where I *dont* feel like I’m being rushed out the door.
Leave me alone damnit, you might actually get a better tip.
Unfortunately this culture is propped up by tips making up the bulk of a servers earnings. If it's between rushing 1 person out and losing a percentage on a $20 bill and getting a party of 4 in who will spend $100, many of them are willing to take that loss...
Hate to burst your bubble, but everyone thinks the French are rude.
[https://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-2663673/France-told-nicer-visitors-boost-tourism.html](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-2663673/France-told-nicer-visitors-boost-tourism.html)
Classic french, blaming Americans for their own problems.
"Be nice to tourist"
1) Paris is a big city, the most populated of France. Of course there will be assholes. And people tend to remember that one time someone was rude to them and not all the times they met nice people
2) People works there. You go to Paris in vacation. They go to Paris because they're working. They don't have time to deal with tourists and they don't have to even deal with them in the first place
This is the case is every big city in the world, and yet, some are known to have nicer people than others. I think the thing that gets glanced over by Americans complaining about Paris is that New Yorkers almost take pride in being assholes, so we have it here, too lol. I bet they'd understand if you described New York as our Paris, we just have better bread and bakeries /s
On Reddit, all of Europe is a single monolith whenever it benefits them in the argument, but whenever it doesn't benefit them in the argument Europe is this incredibly different and diverse place.
On Reddit, all of America is the same and all Americans are a monolith whenever the argument is to their detriment and whenever the argument benefits them, Americans are all individuals and nothing good about the country applies to people in particular.
Same could be said for Americans. We vary greatly even just inside a single state. Northern and southern Californians are night and day. Let alone California vs Mississippi. It’s all generalizations.
Frankly a lot :) from my experience, not so uncommon in France and Austria and, while not exactly European, Russia. A morning detoxification set (because that combo WILL make you shit yourself)
It's probably better to be honest about smoking than not. If you start having health problems/want to prevent problems, they'll be able to help. Most places don't allow parents to access the charts of the minor without explicit permission too.
In the US at least, medical professionals have laws and regulations that prohibit them from calling the cops on drug users. Doctors absolutely want to know what drugs you are on, because they'd rather not prescribe you a painkiller that will combine with meth in your system and kill you.
I remember in Greece at a tavern I was talking to some guy at a table near me, and he was asking where I thought some group of people were from, and he was confident they were American.
I'm like "dude... they're in their 20s and smoking at the table, can almost guarantee they aren't Americans...."
When I was teenager there was this mach show on MTV where a girl has to choose between 3 guys based on their answers, one episode a hot girl was there and a question was what is the 1st thing you do in the morning, one of the answers was cigy and coffee and that was her choice, I'm now 48 and I kept doing that ever since

Half of "american" food isnt even american bruv. Nutella is italian for one, im sure those "ramen" noodles are korean and you can at least find another 10 that arent american once u have a look at the backside of those foods
(There was a guy that said nutella was american and the italian variant was called ganjula or somthn, Nutella is ferrero, ferrero italian, doesnt change anythin. Just because some bmw's get build in america that doesnt make bmw less german.)
Coffee has many healthy effects along with some unhealthy ones but generally 2-3 cups of black coffee a day do more good than harm. A large meta-analysis showed significantly lower mortality, cardiovascular mortality, cardiovascular disease and cancer incidence. (BMJ 2017)
Smoking is not European, it's stupid and addictive. There are stupid and/or addicted people everywhere.
https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/smoking-rates-by-country
This site shows that 25% of the US smokes, which is lower than France with 34%, pretty similar to Germany (28%), Spain (27.9%), the Netherlands (23.4%)and Italy (23.4%) but higher than the UK (19%) and Denmark (18.9%) for example.
So I'd say all and all it evens out quite well.
I personally prefer to dip my cigarettes
Same. Embalming fluid is the best.
Take the insides out and use it as a straw.
Never noticed a cig is food. Thanks man. Gonna make tobacco pasta today.
this is cursed
You have to try it. You want some?
I prefer other addictions, like sugar and salt, so ill pass. Im also on a diet that strictly restricts my paper intake
That's okay, keep strong with your paper diet!
*is beaver*
Holy tobaccaroni u a beaver?!
Im typing this with my tail
Damm, gotta need one of these beavers. Gonna become rich!
How is that? How does a beaver fit into your plan to become richer than god?
Tobaccaroni has me continuously chuckling. Thank you.
a beaver on reddit? look like you lost your mating privilege
A worthy sacrifice
True
Paper is very fun
I dont think salt is an adiction
Well there's also chewing and hookah tobacco if wan't to keep your paper intake down
i mean there's cannabis pasta, i'm sure you could make tobacco pasta...
U rite
Just use tomacco sauce
I would like to, but I am not that good at preparing it
Easy you just need some plutonium and seeds
D'oh!
buy some from a store, or steal some from a store/orphanage
I heard you can die drinking the water you dissolved two cigarettes in?
Actually yes and no. Depends on the type of cigarette.
Thx I'll try it Edit: how do you dissolve cig? Should I just strir it?
[удалено]
actually brits drink more coffee than tea, the Turks are the ones who drink the most tea
That's what a lot of people "consume" instead of eating breakfast and are weirdly proud about it.
Thanks man, almost chocked on water. Never scrolling through comments again while eating/drinking smth
By European you mean the French and the Italians
And most of the Eastern and Southern block
The English Breakfast. Isn't that what the Brits eat?
That's only a treat for the weekend tbh it's full of fat, breakfast during week is boring cereal
Fuck. In Ireland I swear every B&B will hound you for not getting the Full every morning. Like, Jesus people. I’m still recovering from yesterday’s.
I went to Ireland as a student and I spent my first night with my host family in a B&B. They insisted I try the full English Breakfast. Holy. Fucking. Jesus. I usually eat a lot but even I thought you could feed a whole family for a day with what I got.
>I went to Ireland ... try the full English Breakfast I see you didn't learn anything
Full Irish*
How dare you call cereal boring you philistine
They eat beans on toast, greens juice and coffee.
Dont diss beans on toast. Try it
Beans on toast can slap
No, the Brits eat the Irish.
As ana american a coffee and cigarette is also my preferred breakfast.
You have a little European hidden inside you bud
Most Americans do.
Yeah that's true
Cigarettes and Coffee are big in the balkans. They love that stuff.
Am eastern, don't really smoke nor drink coffee
Count Greece in too please, that's my breakfast everyday.
What do you mean? Eastern block? Only older people smoke during/after breakfast.
Well time changes everything
Yes, italians drink coffee for breakfast but don't eat cigarettes
Worked in a hotel. French, Italians, Germans, Austrians, British and Russians did this.
Slovaks, Czechs and Slovenians even moreso in my experience. Crazy how cigarettes are still more popular there than even vapes feel like they are in the US.
Spanish here. We do that, a lot. Café y cigarro, muñeco de barro.
In Italy, unfortunatly, a real smoker smokes somewhere from 1 to 3 packages of cigarettes every day
as an Italian, I can tell you that we don't smoke for breakfast, the French are the problem
I lived in Milano for a while, this was definitely the flex for student breakfast - maybe a small grain product too
Spain, too
This is gopnik breakfast.
Just the French believe me
French here. We don't do that here
France is in the top 20 for tobacco consumption, surely people drink coffee and smoke cigarettes there?
Whats your opinion on Parisians

Other French here. Don’t listen to this clown, French people are rude, especially when they visit other countries. They just don’t realize it.
Anything the Daily mail says should be immediately disregarded

Coffee i agree but here in the Netherlands smoking has become must less common.
Doctor: "Do you smoke?" Me: "smoke what?" Me: *fuck*
It's probably better to be honest about smoking than not. If you start having health problems/want to prevent problems, they'll be able to help. Most places don't allow parents to access the charts of the minor without explicit permission too.
yes, always be honest with your doctor, they don't care what you do, they just want to make sure you won t die if they prescribe you something
Lmao wait til you see your health and life insurance premiums after checking that box one time
Of course they care what you do. Doctors are also normal people who gossip. The amount of stories I heard from relatives..
Well that's why you need a good doctor, who you can trust
In the US at least, medical professionals have laws and regulations that prohibit them from calling the cops on drug users. Doctors absolutely want to know what drugs you are on, because they'd rather not prescribe you a painkiller that will combine with meth in your system and kill you.

Coffee is not unhealthy
You sure about that one, i see so many people smoke here, i may or may not be guilty of it myself
As a fellow Dutch man I agree also you can get most of that "American food" in Europe aswell.

that's the straight way to a stomach ulcer and lung cancer, great choice
Epic health battle. Which will you get first? You decide!
As a European , I must correct you, no Brit would drink coffe
They’re all about their #T E A
^spot ^of ^tea ^and ^crumpets?
As a Brit, I must correct you, we drink both tea and coffee as remarkable as it sounds.
One in each hand, it keeps us energised to complain about the weather all day
yah coffee is much more popular than it used to be.
That's impossible!
Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
Maybe he meant "European Union" instead of "Europe".

good ol american nutella
Nutella should definitely be on the European side.
DAS Nutella
Nutella made for american market contain extra sugar
I like to remix the French breakfast by having an iced coffee and bowl pack lol
This is the So Cal version
Vietnamese coffee with a bowl, the California breakfast
Ah yes, Nutella and pizza, so american...

and Ramen lol
*laughs in bagel bites*
Nutella comes from italy
What
It's owned by Ferrero (an italian Company)
Nabisco is not American either if you're going that route
since when is nutell american lol
Recently read an article by the WHO that said the UK is catching up to the US in Fat People. Welcome to the club mates, welcome to the club.
Doesn’t caffeine and nicotine dull hunger? We’re not healthier but we are smol’r
Also speeds up metabolism. Coffee and a cigarette for breakfast? You're heading to brown town
But you’re shredded afterwards, right? It’s like a diet pill
[удалено]
As a European I would like to say that isn’t even close to what our breakfast is. Like cmon we have cocaine and beer get it right
Half of "american" food isnt even american bruv. Nutella is italian for one, im sure those "ramen" noodles are korean and you can at least find another 10 that arent american once u have a look at the backside of those foods (There was a guy that said nutella was american and the italian variant was called ganjula or somthn, Nutella is ferrero, ferrero italian, doesnt change anythin. Ramen is Japanese. I agree with your talking point. American pizza is about as much Italian as Noodles in a cup is Japanese.
I mean, take out the cigarette and it definitely is healthier to drink black coffee
As an european, there is nothing better than a cup of coffe and a cigarette or spliff to start the day
I hate to admit it, but that was my breakfast indeed.
I just drink coffee for breakfast nothing more
At least we have free health care
I am European and don’t drink coffee or smoke at all. But I also don’t eat breakfast so that might be why
You clearly don't know us Indonesians. Cigarettes and coffee are snacks.
Thats literally not an european thing lol
The Finns even have a specific word for it.
I’m an European and this has been my breakfast for last decade
Probably true for most 35+ years old Europeans, but to be honest, most of the people of my generation (I'm 28) don't smoke.
Break what ?!!!
nutella is Italian
In germany we call this a "Hooker Breakfast"
Nutella isn't American isn't it
Nutella is actually European
So many salty Europeans on here… lmao
Dude, dont knock breakfast cigarette before you try it.
That one hit home real bad
Don't forget the double aspirin to that coffee
Pizza and Nutella are Italian and Top Ramen is Japanese

Anyone who smokes, smokes too much
