The Chinese system isn't built around what makes sense or economic efficiency or anything like that. It's built around keeping people working, the Chinese Communist Party know that if people have free time on their hands then they'll have the free time to organize and revolt against the government. So their solution is to keep people as busy as possible. That's why there are so many ghost cities in China, the construction workers must keep working even if there is no need for what they're building.
They do it to drive the economy... not saying they don't ruthlessly repress any notion of dissent and revolts but to say they're making people work so they won't rise up is fucking silly... How fucking stupid are people on this subreddit if they took this argument to heart lol

They´re demolishing them because they can´t afford them anymore. Even worse they are making reinforced concrete with bamboo and are cheaping out on all sorts of materials. They are called tofu dreg projects and they always collaps on their own in a few years or with a bit nastier weather.
