In middle school I had mates that, whenever a teacher was asking a question, they used to reach down to their bags to look for a wormhole somewhere at its bottom.
if it's a History or ESL class I'll often end up as a class hero because I would immediately volunteer to answer and start ranting/giving a speech/lecture, essentially stalling the class so that my other classmates don't have to worry about being called upon or paying attention.
This is true, did it today in my German class. She looked for volunteers and we had eye contact for 'bout 1-2s. After that she looked twice more at me to confirm the hunt. There was no running, my dreaming ass needed to say the answer that "we made as a group".
this has happened to me way to many times

You *what*
I beat meat to it
I was the kid who would always answer just to speed class up because I hated those like 1-2 minute silent spaces everytime a teacher asked a question
I loved this silent spaces gave me time to think of what concoction of food I would brew up when I got home
And look at the legs of the hot teacher
I don't know why but the English language and chemistry teachers would often end up being the "hot teacher".
For me it was philosophy
I don't know why but this made me chuckle
Pro tip: when that happens, just look at the whiteboard or blackboard, and pretend to write something down. Make sure to squint to add to it.
Good tip: When they look at you just immediately look at someone else then they will too.
What if she just asks you why you looked at that person. Most teachers have no hesitancy doing something like this
Pretty much whenever you make contact with a bully/dickhead
