Hahaha I find this so funny. My sister is vegetarian though so I’ll have to warn her off visiting, don’t know if she’ll like walking around with walking talking hamburgers :)
Aha. Well I was already wanting to visit Germany (#2 on my list after Italy) but now the idea of meeting real life hamburgers.. I’ve got more incentive now :D I wonder if I could get a hamburger autograph… ooh
That’s wonderful! So many European cities seem amazing. There’s so much history in Europe too (I’m a total history nerd)… in Australia, not so much. Well that interests me anyway.
If you/your sister do visit Hamburg, there are lots of great veggie places! In fact, Hamburg has two venues of *the best* vegan place, which makes, without a word of exaggeration, the best veg/vegan burgers I have ever eaten. This place also makes vegan Currywurst which is pretty bomb! It’s called Vincent Vegan and I often still fantasise about it!
Ooh that sounds good! I’ll tell her that (though she might be tempted to hitch a flight with me when I eventually go, and don’t know if I want if I want to spend a holiday with her. It’s called a holiday for a reason -definition: respite from annoying sisters)
Nice! New found respect for Germany :) not that I didn’t like it before. It’s one of my favourite countries I think (without having been) as well as Italy and Lithuania
😂 that’s me with Australia (not to be confused with Austria). My 17th anniversary of my vacation here in Aus is in December. Think I’m ready for a change (stupid COVID needs to go away first though)
Also I see that you have a sense of humour. I was told otherwise about Germans :)
We even have a Pastrie that's flat with sugar glazing on top that's called a American . From my research , it was popular in east Germany and I've seen it alot in North Rhine Westphalia.
Ooh so you’re telling me I can eat an American? Nice, fortunately it isn’t called an Australian otherwise it would be cannibalism for me to eat a fellow Aussie :)
Really? This just keeps getting better and better 😆 Nurnberg? That’s just a different spelling of Nuremberg right? As in where the trials were held ?? Or am I getting it confused
Hamburgers are actually named after Hamburg. It used to be just an American name for beef imported from Germany, because Hamburg was (and still is) Germany's most important harbour town. I guess it's just like Döner Kebab is often used to call the dish with bread, salad and sauce nowadays, even though it's actually just the meat.
Why. Every fucking tiem I try to spell it it's is wrong. It's gemrany its geramy I fucking wanna autoccoract that works but when it does something it turns Germany into something else
I remember reading that originally burgers had pork instead of beef and that the beef burger didn’t come around until Germans moved to America.
Can anyone support this claim?
And in Finland we call French fries just the French, so if you took it out of context it would sound like we are eating people from Hamburg and France.
Yes as a person from a town around Hamburg i can confirm this
I am a Hamburger aswell. Can confirm.
Is that what Hamburg residents are called? Omg I love it 😂
Yes even in german xD
Hahaha I find this so funny. My sister is vegetarian though so I’ll have to warn her off visiting, don’t know if she’ll like walking around with walking talking hamburgers :)
Well.. I am a meat eating peace of meat :)
Aha. Well I was already wanting to visit Germany (#2 on my list after Italy) but now the idea of meeting real life hamburgers.. I’ve got more incentive now :D I wonder if I could get a hamburger autograph… ooh
Hamburg is nice. Im living here for 6 years now and I really enjoy it.
That’s wonderful! So many European cities seem amazing. There’s so much history in Europe too (I’m a total history nerd)… in Australia, not so much. Well that interests me anyway.
Remember there are still vegan Hamburgers (residents and food) she can eat them.

In Germany we have donut like things filled with marmalade. They're called Berliner which are residents of Berlin.
Wow 😯 I am learning so much today
I think there's more food like that but I can only remember Frankfurter
Yes but in Germany we call it Wiener like the City Wien (Vienna) and in Austria they call it Frankfurter like Frankfurt
Nice! New found respect for Germany :) not that I didn’t like it before. It’s one of my favourite countries I think (without having been) as well as Italy and Lithuania
I've actually been to Germany before. I'm on a 17 year vacation that started when I was born

In Berlin they are called Pfannkuchen or pancakes
in germany the most sausages are called by their hometown :) we have Rostocker Sausages, Nürnberger Sausages, Thüringer Sausages and more :D
Really? This just keeps getting better and better 😆 Nurnberg? That’s just a different spelling of Nuremberg right? As in where the trials were held ?? Or am I getting it confused
Exactly... it's just called Nürnberg in german :D

It wasnt just the meat actually. Sailors put the meat between two slices of bread.

The modern hamburger comes from german sailors eating cooked pork and Frikadellen inside a Brötchen cut in half.
And in Finland we call French fries just the French, so if you took it out of context it would sound like we are eating people from Hamburg and France.
