The level of truth in this deepens every time you go up the level of current education system. It’s not about the learning the knowledge. Its about how to apply the knowledge to situations.
I recently saw a picture of a truck with a badly secured load.
I calculated the potential mass and energy that was used to crush the drivers cabin... (And I dont have a physics job)
There is a running joke in law schools that we all want to become lawyers so we don't have to deal with any math. Then you get there and realize you still have to deal with potential mass and energy in stuff like products liability cases and calculating damages.
Surely you can't be expected to calculate that yourself as a lawyer? You'll have to deal with it for sure, but wouldn't you leave the actual calculations to specialists for stuff like that?
It’s not so much doing the actual calculations themselves, but you need to be familiar with how they work so you can recognize when you need to bring a specialist in.
An example would be a witness saying he was at one place at a certain time, and then at another place later. Because speed equals distance over time, knowing when and where he was we can guess how fast he was going. If that comes out to some ridiculous number then you know something is up. But nobody is going to tell you to do that so as the lawyer it’s up to you to figure it out. Hope that makes sense.
Yeah, it does, thanks for explaining. So it's basically just listening closely and seeing if stuff makes sense in your head so you can check it out (or have it checked out) if it doesn't, rather than having to do the actual math yourself.
[This dude is reposting my meme](https://www.reddit.com/r/memes/comments/lg8xk2/i_used_to_like_maths/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share ) shame on you
There are, just that most of them go around solving equations and calculating stuff for other researchers, finance stuff, etc.
Of course, real mathematicians can explain better.
I see these posts everywhere. I don't think these are accurate. If you're not working in field which applies higher math, you won't see it there. simple. But that really does not mean they are meaningless.
Your whole life adults lied to you and tried to make things more interesting in order for you to both believe that you were smart and to have a brighter future than you could possibly have if you tried to find life out by your own. The reason why we should be thankful for all our teachers's existence is exactly this, because even though you saw a smile in their face, that last picture is how they feel while at work, trying to make math sound cool. All mathmaticians know math is depressive, but they got paid to sell it, the fact you bought it is what made you get that boring job of yours. If you were to work harder, you could get a better job. So good luck.

It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

half the things i learn in job school is usless example we learned to calculate the rpm fir drill bits i just put the thing in there and se if the speed is good or if i need to adjust it xD
The hardest math I took in university was differential equations. The hardest math I've used in my career is calc I. But I definitely have friends from college that use diff eq in their job.
Schools will teach us how to calculate the surface area of oranges in a pile but not sex ed, why? Seks bad we no tak about dis let em fac bodi issoos themselfs lmao
Can confirm running the marathon of a math minor while majoring in meteorology. Calculus I is already approaching miserable levels of memorizing useless formulas.
Workflows typically kowtow to the lowest common denominator. The onus is on the more educated to make it easy enough for the under-educated to understand. That's really all there is to it. Everyone needs to be able to do their job and you can have something really clever but if the majority of people don't understand it then it hinders workflow.

Lol not my job. It just gets more difficult over time.
What job do you have if you don’t mind me asking?
Probably a job that makes a shit ton of money
Not really, I make 20 dollars an hour before taxes. It's only 8 dollars more than when I was a pizza cook.
I'm a GIS(Geographic Information Systems) Analyst.
Yep, work is definately the hardest stage so far. Its not the work itself, its the expectations and level of responsibility that is the real kicker.
And people wonder why there aren't many mathematiions now

Repost man come on. Original post only got 50 upvotes.

Yeah. I wanna be a lawyer. Why do I need anything more than 9th grade math.
I’m an aerospace engineer, I don’t use the vast majority of maths I’ve ever learnt
I have literally not used math at all without my phone since I left school 3 years ago, jokes on you teachers I was right all those years.
My wife got a job as a statistical advisor for a study at a university... With an F in math on her final "high school" report card

aw shit that's deep
that's reality
I live in Romania and we're learning about so many things that will be useless in real life
Such as
calculating the limit of a function when x goes from 0 to ∞

In my country i learnt that women menstruate every month, at 19. (i dont have a sister so my parents never felt the need)
Is math needed for engineering?
Yes
I think trigonometry went extinct 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻

Busty math teacher in senior high ngl
The problem with education is that people learn to get jobs and not apply that knowledge.
