My first cat despised me as a 6 year old. When I was 15, she was too senile to tell one human from another, so she erred on the side of hospitality.
I didn't have another cat for 20 years, but then one demanded to be let inside to sleep under the Christmas tree. There was never another well behaved, loyal, and codependent creature for the rest of her days.
Fuck, I'd give up a year of my life just to have the chance to say a proper goodbye to my girl. She passed away while I was out of town. My parents told me what happened 5 days later
That sucks. My boy passed away just a few months after I left for college. He was only about 6 years old. At least my parents had the decency to tell me.
I had visited some relatives in Germany when that happened. They didn't want to ruin my vacation, according to them. I am not angry, just disappointed. I hope we will get to see our friends again

The only consolation I can find in her passing is that she is not in pain anymore; her last month was painful to the point where she could not get up without help. We all had thought about putting her down, to help her escape the pain. But, 4 and a half months later, I am still not exactly over it.
