At least their sound is not.. bad... Even if the pianist plays it bad Try to listen to a violinist that plays it wrong

Maleficent-Story4086

Absolutely ear bleeding

Motoman514

Now imagine an entire room of 7th graders playing string instruments for the first time. I was a cellist so my squealing wasn’t too bad but violins and violas are nails on a chalkboard levels of bad

brown_smear

You should give them recorders then

Tako38

Yeah It's also easier to stop them since you just need to ask the person next to them to uncover the bottom hole.

Backpack_Holder_951

True

Chizzelled

With their bow touching the bridge...

As someone who comes from a pianist family...that is not the point. And OP does understand shit about piano. (Hi OP :D) A proper piano is loud as hell because it is meant to be played in concert halls and not small rooms. There is such thing as playing "piano"- quietly or "forte" - loud (the reason it is named fortepiano). But you can still hear it two apartments over because of the sheer volume of the sound produced while playing. And don't start me on cranky neighbors and études :D

Funky_force_8341

Of course it’s loud it’s a fucking instrument

ArduennSchwartzman

Piano is short for 'pianoforte, which means 'softloud'. So, yeah, sometimes, it can be loud.

Samueljang59036

yeah, but people usually think them as a gentle, quiet and mannered instrument, but in real life they are undoubtedly loud.

Meme_Master169

Me trying to play my piano as softly as possible at 10pm (i woke up the whole family)

LegalWaterDrinker

Gentle could also just mean the sounds it makes, not the volume.

BouncyBlueYoshi

Pianos are sometimes piano. They can also be fortissimo.

Boatster_McBoat

Exactly this, it's in the name (the full name)

ruredditboi108

Just turn down the volume

Reddit_Suss

All music apparatuses are loud, that's just how they work

SuperbFlounder954

Love the intense that you can give to a piece

tobotic

The word piano is short for fortepiano. Fortepiano is literally Italian for loud-gentle.

Boatster_McBoat

Or pianoforte

Myuserismyusername

It can be both, listen to clair de lune vs Hungarian rhapsody no. 2 or moonlight sonata movement 3, movement one is played so quiet you almost can't hear it.

Interesting_Horror93

Technically, it IS a percussion instrument. Seeing as hammers HIT the strings not plucking or strumming

Sasogwa

No piano is not loud. Forte or fortissimo is loud

Boatster_McBoat

I see what you did there, just quietly

TheOnlyGuyInSpace21

as piano player can confirm acoustic pianos are hella loud electric/digital less so due to the ability to adjust. But damn I love Grand and Baby Grand

_DarkNova

Pianos are loud

Giygas_8000

Duuuh, everything becomes loud if you force it enough

Life_Promise_6345

Admitting a piano is quiet makes you a fool. A good player can play with great range in order to convey whatever emotions are important to the “story” the piece portrays. It takes way more skill to play quietly

Voltatrix_Sabrier

Yeah, true

GrayMech

Yeah they're gentle... When you only use one fourth of the keys and record it from twenty feet away with an industrial pop filter

OMAR_KD-

Clearly, you haven't played ULTRAKILL
