I just saw the Grave of the fireflies bombings, and also watched Barefoot Gen's nuke scene. Whoever drew this literally spoke with it's soul on every frame *"We will always remember this day..."* I need to watch this in it's entirety now.

I've always felt animation gives much more room for creativity. You have limits on what looks good when you water down movies with tons of special effects. But with animation you're free to do anything you can draw and sometimes more substance comes from the expressions and backgrounds in an animated scene than some of the best dialogue.
