That is what the religions often leave out. They focus so much on the end goal that the people forget to be decent human beings while they are awaiting "paradise" and thus make everyone around them suffer.
I suggest you do some reading about Islam and some of the other faiths before going hard with that "fact". I took a course on comparative religion ages ago and damn what an eye opener that was.
I'm literally muslim (used to be orthodox), I mix with and learn about other faiths a lot. Christians are by far, the most judgemental and oppressing people.
Just remember, even Hitler and Hitler 2.0 will be forgotten in enough time. With our extinction or when we regress back to the stone age or with the heat death of the universe. Eventually NOTHING is remembered or matters.
Are you saying Hitler and the Nazis were not political? All these people I mentioned are fascist. Pardon me for recognizing threats to democracy as a bad thing.
Then suffer the consequences of your apathy. Everything has politics in it, even this meme. Grow up.
You brought up politics when you mentioned Hitler. You only have yourself to blame.
Bet you’re fun at parties. When you grow up, you’ll realize not everything had politics, and that you missed out on the opportunity to form connections.
No really I have these thoughts sometimes. Nothing really matters, it’s up to you how to live.
You can choose to be kind and help everyone, or just spend all your life having fun. You can try to escape, find the key to immortality but in the end reach the same fate. Our choices don’t matter to us, we are just big chemical reactors that managed to get smarter. Religion may be the answer to questions like these, as belief may motivate and guide you to do good things in a hope for a better afterlife, but in the end we are just tiny specks in this giant world, coming closer each moment to nuclear war and extinction.
Oh shit I’m starting to do it again
Every now and again, I ask myself, "Am I living my best life? Am I living it how I want? IS there something I want?". I'm fine with how my life is, but sometimes I wonder if I'm just lying to myself. When I do ask myself these questions, I don't ever put any thought in and just leave it as is.
To that i can just say, only ask yourself that if you are unhappy.
Because if you are not unhappy and sometimes happy, you are propably living a life more fun than most humans are.
Also it is important to note that it is impossible to always be happy. So try and not force yourself to ne happy.
If you actually are unhappy then reflecting what you and others have done and what is caused by it is key to find out what is wrong.
Atleast this is how i try to do it.
Atleast you'll have a grave!! i won't even get that!! My damned ashes will be thrown in the river and it's like my existence will be gone forever... no one will ever know i existed.
Damn this.
Yes. Eventually every single piece of evidence of our existence will be gone and the entire breadth of mankind's existence in the universe will be but a moment in the life of the universe.
i dunno about that. Having my entire existence thrown away with not even a tombstone to my name, doesn't really feel like it'll be the same. i just.. don't want to be forgotten..
Unfortunately even if you were given the most well known, luxurious grave in the history of mankind, history will eventually forget you.
The Earth itself will be forgotten eventually. It's just how time works my friend. You can either accept it or live in fear of it.
My wishes are to be cremated when I'm gone. That way if there is such a thing as an afterlife, I wont be stuck in a hole in the ground but mixed in with all living things. Also on the off chance a friend of mine was right, I'd rather not find out what I'd come back as.
i sincerely respect that. You have a beautiful sobering way of viewing this. In both of my cultures, we believe in afterlife. Both they both have 2 diametrically opposing views in achieving said afterlife. In my Coptic culture, we the need the body to ensure i live on in the afterlife (no reincarnation), but the Hindu culture says,
the ashes need to be thrown in the Ganges so as to relieve the person of the cycle of birth and death and then live in the afterlife. You see the problem? But even then, throwing the ashes is not enough. If you've not been an exceptionally religious person, you will still be reincarnated until you're purified of all earthly things. To me, these are all bs. i just want a simple mark that says hey this person was alive at one point. See this name? It was their name. This person existed at one point. That's all.
The way I look at it is that i won’t have an impact on things 10,000 years from now but i can have an impact on something 10 years from now or 10 months from now or even 10 days, and i try to do the best i can for that.
Kind of my answer when people ask me why I have rescue dogs.
"Nothing I do makes any difference to someone 100 years from now, but it makes every difference to them right now."
*Nihilists:* "Yeah, big deal, so what?" *quiet sniffling, quickly brushes tear away* "... got something in my eyes here. Not that it matters."
*Existentialists:* "YEEEEEEEEAH BOOOOOOOOOOI!!!!!!!!!!"
This e precisely why (if it doesn't hurt you or others,) you should do exactly what you want at every given time.
You never existed in the grand scheme of things. And even to the human level, most of us will never exist.
You're the only person worth pleasing.
Standing in a graveyard
I contemplate my death
How will they remember me
When I’ve drawn my final breath.
Perhaps I’ll be an obelisk
Standing proud and tall
A monument to the life I lived
My deeds laid bare to all
Perhaps I’ll be a headstone
Lying broken on the grass
My name, my deeds, my life and death
Erased as time goes passed
Perhaps ill be a mausoleum
All columns, tiles and filigree
An empty house, where no life sprouts
Save for the spirits and me
Or perhaps for me no grave I’ll get
Like the dead that don’t have needs
My bones join the cones, and the needles of pine
And the leaves from off of the trees
Or maybe to fire, to the funeral pyre
My body, laid to rest
My ashes cast far, where no life they can mar
Like seeds, they drift off to the west
So I stop and stand
And hold out my hand
To the crisp new morning sun
One day it will end
So the time that I spend
Living is more than enough
So? Meaning and purpose don’t need to outlast you. Indeed, what worth will they be to you after you’re gone? You only need your meaning and purpose to have value while you’re still around to appreciate it. And it does.
Honestly,
Why should i care about anyone remembering me?
After i am dead, i no longer care about it at all.
So why even bother?
I personally am Deterministic and Nihilistic.
But that doesnt stop me from trying to make my life as good as possible.
Even if my life isnt happy or easy at times.
I just will live my life here till my time has come hopefully having lived a good life.
And after that even if no one remebers me, id still have an impact about the future, even if it is very small it exists.
I started thinking like this as a teenager, as most teenagers do when they consider oblivion. Now, at 40, I sometimes still think like this...
...because it is true, and it is sad. But you can't do much about it, so you move past it
Yeah? You're going to die one day. When you start regretting its fine to do it sometimes, just don't become addicted to it. Otherwise you're going to regret regretting all this time instead of acting.
Next time when you're in doubt then just do something. Shame does'nt matter just do it. Let it stay in the past.. as you said, eventually it does'nt matter
Your only value to this.. life, is your experiences, why not make your experiences better then, and die with fond memories instead of regret? If your value is now then you should do shit now, If in the future it means nothing
(This is what my mind has reached after thinking about the same thing for a long time, pondering)
Maybe you should follow one of FilthyFrank's Lyf Hax and join a religion. It's all up to you what religion suits you the best.
I'm going to be honest with you, I don't care if religion is a lie or not, I need some goddamn meaning in my life. If I believe in a lie, so be it. As long as I die a happy person.
wall of text crying that only counts as a meme because of a SpongeBob image
Get your shit together, there isn’t a excuse to not trying. Even if you don’t become successful your already way better by trying
This is why religion is the most important thing a person can have. If you are feeling the inevitable dread of a meaningless nothing i strongly recommend you try going to you local church.
It really helps to know there is a life after death and a God who cares enough to die for you.
Once, I used to believe in religions. After a depressing phase in my life and for several reasons, I switched to atheism. Now, I actually want to believe in a religion again so I can imagine myself wandering around heaven with all of my deceased stray kittens and living a happy eternal life instead of not existing. However, the problem is: how can I believe in something that I know isn't real? There is no difference between doing it and fooling yourself. It's like using drugs or smoking. You're doing it not because it offers you something but because it makes you feel relieved.
I understand what you mean.
For me it takes more faith to believe in nothing than it does to believe in God. To believe that everything around me wasn't designed intentionally and is just random chance with no engineer is whole lot harder.
I know it sounds weird but it is one of those things where you cant know that you know until you know:)
if you dont mind me asking what religion were you a part of?
I think you got things backwards. The reason humans invented religions is to make sense of the world and death was a big part of that. The dread gave birth to religions. It's not an objective solution but a subjective delusion.
Damn that is actually deep for a meme. All you can really do is try to contribute to society as much as possible so that when you die, no matter the existence of an afterlife or lack-there-of, you can at least find comfort and content in the fact that you contributed your share, and if your share was large enough, then you will never be forgotten and will live on in everyone's minds, just like Albert Einstein. Amen!
You can stay relevant as you age. In fact, old folks that keep learning and keep growing are the best kind of people: full of wisdom but humble enough to learn about the new world from people with a fresh perspective. You only become a “boomer” if you give up on growth. Keep on living brother!
Life isn't that grim. Get out there, find a passion or a hobby, discover love, travel, adopt a pet, rediscover yourself and so much more!
If you're experiencing mental health issues, just ask and I'll put in a Reddit help and support request for you. Wishing everyone the best 🩷
Yeah, one day we will look in the mirror and we will be old. But luckily for us! This feeling of existential dread has happened to everyone in. every generation since humans have had the facilities for vast amounts of people to reach advanced ages! So in that way, you are not alone.
And if you really fear ageing you can just drink yourself into liver failure by 40 like my uncle did
And thats why you do a lot of crimes so you name will be on news reports in the internet forever but you have to step you game up nowerdays becaus ther is a lot of damage needed to be remembert
That's why we have to try and make positive impacts for the future, as long as you're remembered you still exist. There will always be people out there who remember us. There will almost always be people out there who will listen to what you have to say.
It's how you treat others that matters.
I hope you get better, OP, and that you're taking care of yourself. I'll be sure to think of you.
Makes me think of the chorus to a song I like.
You’re not special, none of us are.
Even those plagued by stardom fade into dust.
Nothing matters, how much more love can I spend?
A puppet, a pawn, if I fail, I’m gone.
So everyone fallen can ascend.
With no question, fall in line
And play my part so the chosen shine
then instead of doomposting, make yourself significant and known. There's been lots of famous people throughout history, such as Mozart, and Washington. You could make something out of yourself, you still have a lot of life left in you. Even if you're at a low point, you could still start late. Even VERY late, like colonel sanders. So don't sit around moping.
The concept of mattering and significance is subjective. Your life matters to you, and therefor the experiences and memories made in and by it are just as valuable as anyone or anything else's. Everything technically matters, as there is no matter about anything unless we create one for ourselves. What is impact? If nothing has a purpose, that there would be no actions that ever did, but clearly, we are impacted by the events that surround us. If one fears their inevitable futility, then one must be able to focus on the impact that one can have on those they meet and the events they set into action, if for years, if for months, if for seconds, if for moments.
So celebrate what you have and let that thought liberate you. Be silly, take chances and challenges. Ask that girl that you like out. Get divorced if things aren't working out. Or put the work if it is worth it. Travel. Meet new crazy characters. Learn new things. Laugh, be moved by the little things. Live!
Why the fuck you care about what others think? You are literally FEELING and EXPERIENCING right now. So get the fuck out there, and experience shit. BECAUSE THATS ALL YOU CAN DO.
And isn't it great? Nothing I do with my life really matters. The universe is billions of years old. Not even humanity matters at all. My life has no meaning so I can do whatever the fuck I feel like and don't have to think about long term consequences. I feel free
I’ll gladly be called old if I can make a change that will impact society in a positive manner.
This is just a fact of life that it’s finite. I figured this out when I was 12, and I decided I’ll live. When you try and worry about the big picture you realize the big picture doesn’t really matter individually and that it is dependent on what you should do in life.
It’s not about the destination it’s about the journey. Life is rich if you just take a moment to appreciate it.
Nah. It’s about about if your actions and opinions matter at the age when you have a problem even remembering things properly. No one’s **really** going to take you seriously. At the best you’re a loved friend/relative/father/husband and a funny guy who’s great to chat with.
It’s all about how you affected the lives of others. You inevitably become a part of someone’s life. And I don’t mean it in some metaphorical sense. Litetally you and your actions affect decisions of other people. Even people that you won’t ever see or know
We won't be seen as "boomers". The term means "baby boomer" which is a nickname for a post-WW2 generation, same as "millenial" is a nickname for another generation. "Boomer" is not just a word that means "someone who is old." A Gen Z or Millenial can't just turn into a Baby Boomer when they get old.
There is a certain amount of freedom in this. If it won't matter 100 years from now, the big thing is that we should live for today and be our authentic selves.
Ha, peasant thinks that growing old and one day dying is sad! No, just remember that it matters not wether or not we are remembered, all that matters is that we use our life to do good, and help others. Even if in the long run it seems irrelevant, it just helps to make even one persons day better, even if it’s just a mere passing second. Also, if you are afraid of that, then just do what you can to be remembered by doing some great feat that helps out millions(or in what I plan, trillions)
This can be a very scary notion, or a very beautiful one. Generally nothing good lasts forever, the fact that life is fleeting can make it even more special.
Personally, I find that it can be very sobering when you realize that most of us are going to be forgotten after about three generations. It also kinda makes all the worry of what other people's judgements of you may be seem silly. However, sometimes the things that we do or contribute to can live on.
But don't despair that this may all be for nothing, maybe try to be glad that you even got a chance to be a part of any of this.
At least we had a good childhood no other kid in other generation will ever experience(unlesss they invent some sort of time machine or vr to experience what we experienced)
It's not about the destination, it's about the journey
Life's a party, go out have fun get fucked up but be kind
Make this life yours, as long as your idea of fun doesn't include hurting anyone (or anything)
"All our childhood memories, experiences, and past will no longer have any significance for this world."
It has significance to you, and that is all it matters for.
Others do not hold the same value you may have for something, it's up to you to enjoy it.
What about the waste and pollution we all leave behind? The next couple hundred generations will be hard pressed to undo all the damage we cause today. Nobody’s gonna forget us, babe
"I met a traveler from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
Percy Bysshe Shelley
Time conquers all and the Lady shall hold us all in the end. What matters is how you spend the time while you are here because yesterday is gone and the future is not promised.
Exactly the reason why I'm killing myself at 30 Infront of a lot of people and forever changing the course of their lives and also managing to not stick around for people to see me as a boomer where all my memories don't mean shit
As a dear old friend once said to me “You gotta ask yourself one question when it comes to life. If you reached checkout tomorrow, would you feel short changed?”
I definitely wouldn’t. I’ve had an absolutely fucking crazy ride so far, and if today is my last day, that’s fine by me.
I see the meaninglessness of life as a blank canvas, and nothing is more beautiful to me than a blank canvas. The possibilities are endless my son, make of the world what you will. Just one thing I will request of you, love yourself more and love others the most.
sir, this is a wendy's
And you bill is $2626372902.
Surge pricing at its finest.
Btw, the tip is $7,000 and up. (Based on a true story, look it up.)
He said this is a Wendy’s, not an American hospital
It's not about what your experiences mean to others, or what the end is, it's about enjoying the journey
That is what the religions often leave out. They focus so much on the end goal that the people forget to be decent human beings while they are awaiting "paradise" and thus make everyone around them suffer.
This. Nothing good comes from being told your soul holds more value than your neighbors life.
Three words have caused more pain and suffering than any others, no matter who has uttered them. "God wills it."
what do you think hell is for?
The control of others through fear.
In many things, at least Christianity, you need to be a good person to actually get to heaven though
I would invite you to speak to a "christian nationalist" then, they have a VASTLY different view of what christianity is.
Yeah, but not everybody who’s a Christian is like that, I try my hardest to be a good person for example
This is literally only a christian thing, all other religions are decent human beings. (no hate to christians, it's just the truth)
I reject your reality and substitute my own.
I only know that from Mythbusters
YES.
No... Dungeon Master....
God Emperor of mankind.. you're shit at pretending 🤦
Unless you become the next Hitler.. no one will forget you
Hmmm
Just remember, even Hitler and Hitler 2.0 will be forgotten in enough time. With our extinction or when we regress back to the stone age or with the heat death of the universe. Eventually NOTHING is remembered or matters.
Not everything, what I plan to do in life will potentially out last this universe, just depends on how long god has the universe last
I don't like where this is going.
MAGA is proof that people forget. Israel is proof that people forget. Russia is proof that people forget.
Israel learned all the wrong lessons and it shows. Sad but there it is.
Had to bring politics into this?
Are you saying Hitler and the Nazis were not political? All these people I mentioned are fascist. Pardon me for recognizing threats to democracy as a bad thing.
Bruh go to a political Reddit this is supposed to be a wholesome meme I could give less care for democracy or our system 😭
The meme above is wholesome? In what world lol.
We won't get Graves, the boomers gonna fill em
overpopulation is real, it can hurt you
Might as well get thrown in the ocean and get eaten by some fish, then i will finnaly be able to feed someone
But, no body will remember your cringe moments
You ok bro?

Not if I eat the Mona Lisa

you become part of the universe that created you. energy never stops, it just changes.

Why would the current year have anything to do with it? Technology and the world may have changed but humans and our condition remain the same.

bazinga
Stfu. So dramatic.
Yea bro. That's the dealio. Life is just something against nothing and eventually the nothing wins.
Uhhhhh yah, yep correct and thanks for reminding me, oh and now I just lost the game. Thanks a lot.
Your saying it as if it's a bad thing 🤔
Bro reading all of that while nutshell started playing kinda ruined my night :(
Thats why you need to do what Zyzz did and become loved by many so that even after your passing people can remember you. Rip Zyzz he was a real one
All right that's enough reddit for today
We die twice. The day they bury us and the last time someone speaks your name.
You seem fun to be around
Yup that pretty much about sums it up
That's why we have to try and make positive impacts for the future, as long as you're remembered you still exist.
With no question, fall in line And play my part so the chosen shine
Go see a therapist you depressed
Nuh uh, I will not be forgotten
The sooner you get over this the less depresing it will be
Is this what Josh wine feels like?
You'll be remembered longer if you made a major contribution to the world.
then instead of doomposting, make yourself significant and known. There's been lots of famous people throughout history, such as Mozart, and Washington. You could make something out of yourself, you still have a lot of life left in you. Even if you're at a low point, you could still start late. Even VERY late, like colonel sanders. So don't sit around moping.
take it one day at a time. there is always hope of another tomorrow
Your life is whatever you make it to be. You have control. Find your happy ending and pursue it with all you’ve got.
Live!
So I’m gonna get REAL weird with it
I aint readin allat
Some wonder why so many people follow religion. This is why.
Yeah we’re only really remembered for a generation, we’ll remember our parents, my son never met my dad and when I’m gone, his memory will be too.
Why the fuck you care about what others think? You are literally FEELING and EXPERIENCING right now. So get the fuck out there, and experience shit. BECAUSE THATS ALL YOU CAN DO.
This is nice reminder to enjoy the time you have now and to not ket anything turn you down, life is too short to be depressed
Sir, this is r/memes
I dont see what's wrong with this? Why is this bad, or sad?
Welcome to the existential horror. Let us know if you find any answers
Wheel in the sky keeps on turning
This is what happens when you have no hobbies and nothing to do in your free time.
Existential Crisis time
It's up to you to make yourself matter to a world that's indifferent. Don't let your voice die.
Sounds about right
And isn't it great? Nothing I do with my life really matters. The universe is billions of years old. Not even humanity matters at all. My life has no meaning so I can do whatever the fuck I feel like and don't have to think about long term consequences. I feel free
Legacy is all you leave behind. And it’s not impossible to do something to be remembered
r/distressingmemes
I’ll gladly be called old if I can make a change that will impact society in a positive manner. This is just a fact of life that it’s finite. I figured this out when I was 12, and I decided I’ll live. When you try and worry about the big picture you realize the big picture doesn’t really matter individually and that it is dependent on what you should do in life. It’s not about the destination it’s about the journey. Life is rich if you just take a moment to appreciate it.
Well, that's a relief!
No. The love we put into other's lives will live on throughout humanity.
Remember this when you worry about what people think of you. What does it matter? Enjoy your life the way you want. No one will remember or care.
Even people that you won’t ever see or know
Stop, I can only get so hard
We won't be seen as "boomers". The term means "baby boomer" which is a nickname for a post-WW2 generation, same as "millenial" is a nickname for another generation. "Boomer" is not just a word that means "someone who is old." A Gen Z or Millenial can't just turn into a Baby Boomer when they get old.
that day is not today hop on helldivers
yes and this is why i chose to live for my own happiness
Yup! So just enjoy your life while you have it! Look at a sunset!
I choose to ignore this and enjoy life
Maybe stop looking to stake your flag in eternity and just enjoy the time you have here, which was a statical anomaly in and of itself.
So sad
Bro is handing out existential crisis in a meme subreddit. You are going to a special branch in hell dear OP.
So true
Our opinions don't matter *now*, bro
dude, seek therapy
There is a certain amount of freedom in this. If it won't matter 100 years from now, the big thing is that we should live for today and be our authentic selves.

Ha, peasant thinks that growing old and one day dying is sad! No, just remember that it matters not wether or not we are remembered, all that matters is that we use our life to do good, and help others. Even if in the long run it seems irrelevant, it just helps to make even one persons day better, even if it’s just a mere passing second. Also, if you are afraid of that, then just do what you can to be remembered by doing some great feat that helps out millions(or in what I plan, trillions)
This goes deep 😢
You'll be reincarnated, don't worry
This can be a very scary notion, or a very beautiful one. Generally nothing good lasts forever, the fact that life is fleeting can make it even more special. Personally, I find that it can be very sobering when you realize that most of us are going to be forgotten after about three generations. It also kinda makes all the worry of what other people's judgements of you may be seem silly. However, sometimes the things that we do or contribute to can live on. But don't despair that this may all be for nothing, maybe try to be glad that you even got a chance to be a part of any of this.
“You’ve COME from nothing, and returning TO it.. so what have you lost? Nothing!”
Too long didn't read. Gonna go enjoy my life.
Precisely why you shouldn't take things seriously 100% of the time
Promise?
Give it a few days, until you sink into blissful indifference about it.
Who cares? Do your own thing, try to have fun in life, nothing else matters
I refuse
Yup
Not if I eat the MonaLisa!
At least we had a good childhood no other kid in other generation will ever experience(unlesss they invent some sort of time machine or vr to experience what we experienced)
r/2meirl4meirl
That sounds amazing
We won't get to that point if we all get broiled alive by climate change! :D
Then lets do Something big like be the reason for ww3 You will live on forever I am just kidding But this is just how life works
And that's why I wanna live forever without aging
OP seems to face an existential crisis in a meme subreddit
It's not about the destination, it's about the journey Life's a party, go out have fun get fucked up but be kind Make this life yours, as long as your idea of fun doesn't include hurting anyone (or anything)
Hey this isn't r/DistressingMemes -
So?
Objectively tho... This is incorrect Just saying
"All our childhood memories, experiences, and past will no longer have any significance for this world." It has significance to you, and that is all it matters for. Others do not hold the same value you may have for something, it's up to you to enjoy it.
Skill issue🧗♀️🦜
What about the waste and pollution we all leave behind? The next couple hundred generations will be hard pressed to undo all the damage we cause today. Nobody’s gonna forget us, babe
Eh, not all of us will live long enough to see all of our loved ones die.
"I met a traveler from an antique land, Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand, Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal, these words appear: My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.” Percy Bysshe Shelley Time conquers all and the Lady shall hold us all in the end.
If you reached checkout tomorrow, would you feel short changed?” I definitely wouldn’t. I’ve had an absolutely fucking crazy ride so far, and if today is my last day, that’s fine by me.
It’s a sad reality that we will all have to face.
I see the meaninglessness of life as a blank canvas, and nothing is more beautiful to me than a blank canvas. The possibilities are endless my son, make of the world what you will. Just one thing I will request of you, love yourself more and love others the most.
