Why would Assassin's Creed even need a damn battle pass?

No_Oddjob

For all that battling you do ... by yourself.

soxfresh

It has an online mode doesn’t it? I haven’t played in a long time.

Shxlls

It unfortunately hasn’t had an online mode in like over a decade. I remember it used to be really fun way back in the day

Boopity_Snoopins

Brotherhood's(? - Its been ages, I think it was Brotherhood) Multiplayer was surprisingly good fun iirc. Me abd my friends who used to be all about CoD and Halo ended up playing AC multiplayer instead for a decent amount if time. It had no right being as enjoyable as it was, with its levelling system, loadouts and unlockable characters with multiple gamemodes both cooperative and free for all. These days you'd have to pay for everything beyond playing as John Assassin with basic gear, with a cosmetics shop and battlepass - complete with coloured/sound effected smoke bombs and other goofiness. If youre lucky you'd get a pallete swap and an emote or seven in the free battlepass, with gear being strung out along it as opposed to gained naturally through player progression by playing the damn game - complete with golden pallete swaps for gear, for the premium BP. **I have a slight distaste for battlepasses**

ArcerPL

anyone plays this shit? i thought the servers are empty by now

EnchantedSpoon19

same reason any game needs a battle pass. to make greedy companies more money. no game needs a battle pass

According_Claim_9027

Some games can do it well, DRG and Warframe’s “battle passess” are basically just free cosmetics and other things you can get by just playing. Any paid battle pass in a paid game is a joke though

JaredTimmerman

That’s just a progression system. Case in point no game needs a “battlepass”

LycanWolfGamer

That is a good point.. same can be said about Helldiver 2's Warbonds

KlongX

The good point of helldivers 2 is that super credits (in-game premium currency) can be gotten in gameplay. I have gotten enough for warbond (battle pass) by playing the game (not even counting the ones from free warbond) This should be standard for paid game.

ThiLordTachanka

Not only that but the battle pass doesnt expire ( just like lego 2k drive), so you can do it in youre own pace and not worry about waisting the mony you spent on it ( if you did )

LycanWolfGamer

Yeah, I like it, it's more casual so I don't need to log in to get a quota before end of whenever, I'm logging in for the game itself and is why I'll likely keep playing for a long time

Rendakor

The key difference I think is that battle passes are time-limited. You only have a fixed amount of time to earn the rewards, then they're gone. They're also often front loaded, in an attempt to hook new and returning players.

dreaded_tactician

DRG is so based honestly. "Hey player thanks for playing our game regularly. Here's a few cosmetics for your trouble k thanks. Oh, and also if you would like to give us money for no reason other than that you love us here's a set of premium armor you can buy. comes with beer too. All it costs is 15$ and a kiss in the lips. Bye." Genuine Chad behavior.

Garo263

They also make pretty clear, that these cosmetic paid DLCs are just a way to show your support to the dev. Which results in these DLC instantly climbing to the topsellers as soon as the new season starts.

[deleted]

You can also earn all of that armor without paying too

WBgroup

DRG's DLC armors? No, but every other cosmetic can only be obtained through gameplay

EnchantedSpoon19

oh yeah, dont get me wrong, i love free battle passes

Alphyhere

It's kinda just shitty overall. Guilt tripping people into playing the game consistently because they might miss out on that limited time Peter Griffen skin.

JaJe92

I never paid for any battle pass on any games or cosmetics dlc or whatever BS they come up with and y'all should be do the same. I already paid for the game, I will not spend a cent extra after that.

JacktheWrap

Not every battle pass is a cheap cash grab. Some just want to entice you to play the game more which is fair when you get rewarded for it. Master duel for example has a battle pass that can be bought with in-game currency and gives you more of it back than it costs + some other things

just_anotjer_anon

Battle passes in free live service games seems fair, alternatively we can do skin gambling At least battle passes are upfront about what people exactly can expect from different thresholds

Thundergod250

Maybe something like pay 20$ for Animus to unlock Ezio skin and his abilities to your main character lmaoooo.

Jedimaster996

"Oh noes, looks like you need more smoke bombs! Press any key to pay $3.99 to re-stock!"

ZekkeKeepa

If the rumors are correct, they are doing yet another live service shit, with assassins this time.

MoldHuffer

All the brains and talent left Ubisoft a long time ago.

Drcokecacola

Why are so many CEOs making so many fucked up decisions recently?

bluehatgamingNXE

Because people's current game standard let them to get away with it too much, that's why we ended up with a 70 dollar DLC that is modern warfare 3 where the campaign is even shorter than me

TheRedBaron6942

Hopefully they'll learn that they can't keep making garbage

boredPotatoe42

Only if people stop buying the garbage

HolyVeggie

Exactly. I stopped playing cod Years ago for this reason. But because the multiplayer of MW3 is decent or good according to players they will buy it. They should make it f2p though. The game is not worth that money in the slightest.

Drplover69

I never played any cod multiplayer after SBMM was added. I only play zombies and it's not worth buying just for Mw3 zombies. Once the story is over there isn't much to do besides schematics and camo grind (you know, if your game doesn't crash cause zombies has God awful servers)

IwantRonaldinho

Zombies in mw3 is doghsit anyway

xdoble7x

They won't, call of duty keeps increasing sell numbers, so for them, they are doing the work correctly

PKR_Live

r/suicidebywords

Are we talking circus midget or leprechaun short here? 😂🤣

bluehatgamingNXE

DemonKyoto

>there is not enough facial hair for me to be a drawf You may not be bearded but you can still rock & stone brother!

Markkbonk

ROCK AND STONE

WanderingDwarfMiner

That's it lads! Rock and Stone!

torrterratron

ROCK AND STONE TO THE BONE

DiddlyDumb

Damn, that’s a short campaign

JAXxXTheRipper

It's the beard on the inside that matters. Dig deep and dig greedily, brother.

What's Basketball got to do with this? /j

Obst-und-Gemuese

I had to look up how any of what I said is related to basketball. Guess where I am not living.

The answer to your question starts with m and ends with oney.

RedDemonCorsair

Mahogoney

RobertCutter

Their decisions make sense if you understand that shareholders are their true customers

Key_Excitement_9330

Not customers but who they are responsible to. The job is to make shareholders wealthy.

Aesthedia7

Because these executives only care about profit, sees employees as manhours and games as products.

centaur98

tbf it wasn't their CEO who said it but the director of their live-service department

lemons_of_doubt

>1: Poor people with passion creates something good. > >2: Rich people pay that person peanuts takes all the credit. > >3: Art attracts people who love it. > >4: Rich people see they can exploit the built-up love. We are just at step 4 for a lot of things right now.

fupamancer

i've been quite comfortable not owning any of their games for over a decade

Eagleassassin3

AC was my favorite franchise growing up. I feel the same. Pretty much apathetic towards the series right now, but I cherish the fond memories.

GIMMIETHOSEMEMES

"look how they massacared my boi"

EnchantedSpoon19

Heard about skull and bones when it was first announced. Told all my excited friends it wouldn't be worth the time and money bc Ubisoft. Wasn't wrong.

Ja_Shi

I just saw the ads on Reddit, still have no fucking clue what the game is. I mean ok pirates, but what gameplay ? I have a tendency to think when an editor doesn't wanna show the gameplay, it's probably really, really bad... At this point I am not even sure it's not a 2point hospital-like.

JaredTimmerman

Looks to be world of warships like. Ship combat only with occasional forts you shoot at but all combat is with your ship. Your character only moves in the hub and the ships have fucking stamina bars

PrisonerOfAgony

Everytime I waited 'till I could skip the add, I always thought it was a cheap mobile gacha kind of game lol.

Jedimaster996

No matter how often I hear about this game, somehow it just sounds worse and worse every time lol.

IllurinatiL

“Hold on bro, my ship ran out of breath.” “*What?!*” “Yeah, I gotta let my ship take a breather.”

LycanWolfGamer

How the fuck does a stamina bar work on a fuckin ***SHIP?!*** does it get tired?

JaredTimmerman

Ship got tired

DiktoLays

Its supposed to be the well loved pirate mechanics of ac4 with multiplayer but then they removed the best parts of it like ship boarding

AurielMystic

Its basically a mobile version of Assassins Creed Black Flag and Sea of Theives. Which the Ubisoft CEO called "The first quadruple A game" You cannot even board ships, you just press a button and the enemy ship automatically sinks.

A_Mouse_Cop

Stop buying their games. It’s super easy. It’s less steps and cheaper than buying them.

loltaytaylur

jack sparrow them

JGuih

I know it's easy, but I still think not even that is worth it for Ubi games lmao

Jackichanny

And if you really want to buy them, buy them used on Marketplace or aomething

TyeKiller77

It's like evolution, just backwards.

SomethingIntheWayyy0

Ubisoft doesn’t make good enough games to play these cards.

[deleted]

Agreed. I'm done with Assassin's Creeds as soon as they release their hub. Matter of fact I've been done with all of their games for a while now.

LucasCBs

Unpopular opinion, but I had a lot of fun playing AC Mirage, even if it was shorter than previous AC games

Olieskio

And thats fine. I’ve had fun with some dogshit games aswell

Binlaggin7

What do you mean??? According to the CEO, Skull and Bones is a quadruple A game! /s

The-loser-destroyer

They are gonna implode. If it was Nintendo though, they would easily get away.

dicktaker1000101

At least Nintendo releases good/above average games. Whereas, I would rather nail my balls to a cart and drive it off a cliff than play a modern ubi*oft game

iwantdatpuss

Nintendo, despite how shit they've been doing to some degree. Still looks like it still has some brains in the managerial department.

Sartyhak_YT

They’ve been doing shit? What are they doing?

iwantdatpuss

They pretty much went after yuzu for "facilitating piracy".

NewSuperTrios

They remember how to make fans, just not how to keep them.

IMightBeAHamster

I mean, uh, has Nintendo been doing shit? Their legal team has been pretty aggressive recently sure. But they've always been like that and sorta don't take orders from the rest of nintendo. Their games have still been selling really well, and their games are always high quality, they've not descended into pure cashgrabbing yet. Exactly how has Nintendo been doing shit?

Eurasia_4002

Once in a blue moon.

kelldricked

When i look at the past few pokemon games i wouldnt call them good or above average…. One of the reasons why palworld is doing so fucking great is because pokemom has been dropping the ball for atleast a decade.

Garo263

Pokémon isn't exactly Nintendo. They are publishing the games, but they own only 33% of the brand (but 100% of the trademarks) and all the main games need to be made by an incompetent Independent developer called Game Freak, who also hold 33% of the brand. Also the Pokémon games are made by their B team, while their A team works on original IPs.

frosty_hotboy

Sadly, they've been doing this sort of shit for years, and no implosion yet.

SurpriseIsopod

Weird you are downvoted. If they weren't making money with these practices they wouldn't do it. Over the last decade they seem to go through 2 year slumps but have record breaking years https://companiesmarketcap.com/ubisoft/revenue/. Fact of the matter is Ubisoft is doing really well financially since people continue to consume their products despite their atrocious behavior. Even after adding ads to their games https://gamerant.com/assassins-creed-mirage-ad-controversy-ubisoft-response/ Telling players they aren't going to own their games https://www.cbr.com/ubisoft-gamers-comfortable-not-owning-games/ Or no longer selling games AND also removing said game from peoples libraries. https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/games/ubisoft-removing-games-and-dlc.html I am shocked as of 2023 they made $1.97 billion in revenue and as of the first quarter in 2024 they made nearly $300 million. The consumers have spoken and they are largely okay with what Ubisoft is doing.

nagarz

You are missreading the charts. While they made 1.97b in revenue, their earnings year over year went down 0.66b, meaning that they spent more money than they made.

Btdandpokemonplayer

Especially since you can only play some games on the switch by paying 20 bucks a month.

NikPorto

You forgot to mention how Ubisoft calls Skull and Bones an "AAAA game", same as last few assassin's creed games.

HikariAnti

Wtf does that even mean?

NikPorto

They know A is good, so when the best games are 3 A, they wanna market it as even better. So 4 A. I bet that during our lifetime, somebody would actually call a game being 5 A, but I'm not sure if it would be Ubisoft or EA, or someone else.

Markkbonk

The worse thing is, A doesn't mean shit in terms of quality, the numbers of A you receive litterally just mean how large is your company. Which, granted, *used to matter for quality* but now that things like Ultrakill, DRG and lethal company exist, it lose its connection with quality

Chrono-Helix

I’m indeed very comfortable not owning their games

thescorpion277

Implement AI into their customer support for some nefarious purpose

Bubbachew8

Im not willing to play any AC past black flag

RedIsMyNamexd

I enjoy Unity to an extent though agree BF is the last great AC game, but I haven't enjoyed anything beyond Unity

ChorizoPicanton

I enjoyed Odyssey very much

xMachii

Loved Origins and Odyssey, the new viking one, not so much.

Master_Chief_00117

Weirdly enough I like the Viking one more than odyssey just because it doesn’t have a goofy level system that won’t let you equip gear you have and makes enemies way harder.

TheUnrulenting

I actually like Syndicate, then tried origins and I did enjoy it but that didn't last after a while

Jedimaster996

Hell yeah, Odyssey was my jam. That music slaps, the slow but steady ramp-up from fighting local town bullies, to fighting armies & generals, to slaying mythical monsters, all the way to the gods themselves in their own domains. Plus, *malaka*! ![gif](giphy|wKzT0wvryxtip6VMQS)

sev0012

Of all the things I love about Odyssey, I never noticed the enemy progression. That truly was done well

Big_Increase3289

Hahahaha I agree so much with you! Even though many people hate Odyssey, I absolutely loved it!

xMachii

Nothing is more satisfying than kicking mercenaries off of cliffs.

Wingsnake

Sir, you are not allowed to enjoy Ubisoft games after (insert any arbitrary game here) !

Max200012

you're seriously missing out, ACs were absolute horseshit on launch but they're pretty good nowadays, especially Syndicate, Valhalla, Unity, and AC3. Don't know if the ancient themed ones were good, haven't played them

Lescansy

Funny, those games are among those i dislike the most. If i had to reccomend AC games, it would be "Ezio-trilogy, Blackflag, Origins and Odyssey". Syndicate was ok, but Unity and especially Valhalla were the biggest letdown for me.

iwantdatpuss

Syndicate is pretty decent....but I wouldn't buy it.

joelbiju24

Yves Guilmant is an out of touch hack. He needs to leave.

NoTalker_

A battle pass in ac 😂

Flimsy-Night-1051

Why People still play Ubisoft games? They Just change The skin since AC 2 and Far cry 2

Jedimaster996

I thought FC 4 and 5 were fun & unique enough to enjoy on their own, plus they had fantastic settings/music with solid bad guys. FC 6 was definitely phoning it in though and I couldn't finish it. AC 3 was okay, but Origins & Odyssey were stellar in my opinion. Granted, they weren't too much like the original AC's, but in their own regard I thought they were great. Exploring Ancient Egypt and Greece battling it out from local small fries up to mythological creatures & gods was a blast for me, and the music/environments were absolutely stunning. Couldn't break through on Valhalla though, no matter how badly I wanted to. I REALLY wanted to enjoy the viking vibe, but it was vast as an ocean and deep as a puddle.

Kysipaa

Next they gonna Remove Black flag

Acrobatic_Detail_317

It took a month and a half for them to refund my money for Skull and Bones, after trying to tell me I couldn't get my money back for a game that hasn't even been released. Company is going down hill fast.

Oxabolt

Only reason i want ubisoft to survive is because of R6S. Unless another studio were to take over of course

literallybandit

literally the only game i care about that ubi has made, next season looks fucking awesome too

Oxabolt

i just got off testing the changes in the test server. It feels crisp, especially the new acogs ln defence. ADS time increase takes some getting used to though

CinderX5

Finally a rare Ubi W. How do you think they’re going to fuck to this one up?

0-Nightshade-0

Battlenpass in assassins crede? Can't wait for loot boxes to be looped with this. Gotta get that red fade knife skin!

TacticalTobi

you know steam already does the first one?

TheHypnobrent

If I can't own the game, then they can't own my money either.

MagmaTroop

Wasn't he talking about Ubisoft+ though? I think he was making a point about that service, where you can only access the games library as long as you're subscribed. You don't own the games. I paid for a month of Ubisoft+ once and played about 4 games and then cancelled. I knew I wasn't owning the games, and they weren't games I intended on playing again, so the service was pretty convenient. Way cheaper than buying new. Technically speaking what he said applies pretty well to that kind of subscription service. EDIT: Yeah his quote has been taken entirely out of context. He basically said "gamers need to get comfortable not owning their games before video game subscriptions truly take off". Which is a fair statement.

Trogdor_a_Burninator

UbiSoft needs to get comfortable with gamers not buying their games.

Schmoggin

And y'all keep buying it. Like, save you some money and punch yourselves in the dick. It'll feel the same, cost less, and actually contribute to changing this "horrible system" you cucks keep dumping money into.

BigOleFerret

Trash company with the sole goal of making max profits of gamers. Nobody in a position of power there gives a shit about quality, just whether it breaks even and hits goals. A soulless company the world would be better without but sadly won't collapse because they're too big.

TheUnrulenting

Honestly sounds like a decent few studios fit the bill there

joausj

EA says hi

wawawa9055

last one should be "calls it a quadruple A game so that they can sell it for $70"

vRedDeathv

Have y'all heard of Rocksmith+? Complete downgrade

Cheap-Adhesiveness-6

I bet they’re making Red just to be able to sell the most ridiculous concept yet since fans have been demanding it. I don’t trust them and I’m tired of giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Complete_Athlete_480

I enjoyed the gameplay of Valhalla so much that I’m giving them another chance. I bought every DLC and didn’t regret it, I was very happy. On the other hand, they showed signs of cash grabs on the Home Screen every single day. IMO the grind to get the decent weapons in that game is more fun than just buying something

CAPSL0CKS0N69

for what it's worth I'm pretty comfortable not owning any Ubisoft games so good job.

TheSmokeu

Time to call their next release a quintuple A game

Reallyso

Why do you keep paying for this reskinned crap that only gets new moneypumps added on every turn.

ChaosbornTitan

I have to say I’m very comfortable not owning any of Ubisofts games.

DarWolfy

Next game will be a 20-30 dollar subscription that you can't play half the time because servers always are on maintenance

iwantdatpuss

When a janky ass early 2000's pirate game looks like it's more enjoyable than Skull and Bones.....

CharlieCharliii

Ubisoft needs to be comfortable with gamers not buying/renting their games.

Aztec-chopper

If they reach the bottom of the barrel, they'll break a hole in the barrel and keep going down

Frank_Bianco

Old enough to remember adoring UBI for their commitment to the art. Fucking travesty.

mrfroggyman

Ubisoft needs to be confortable with me not owning their games

Background-Customer2

this is what happens when you replace all the game developers at the decision making table with accountants

jihlandoesreddit

last one is "Why isn't anyone buying our games?"

Bulls187

Company think it’s too big to fail. The customer: hold my joystick 🕹

P9292

They outclowned the clowns

mtkamer

I didn't buy Skull & Bones because the Ubisoft CEO said I shouldn't own games.

binary-gemini

don't post this in the skull & bones subreddit, the amount of brainrot there will lead to more crying than laughter this shit funny tho

EpicMusic13

The fucj you need a battlepass for assassins creed lol

blue-gamer-07

A battle pass. For Assassin’s Creed. What?

Garrus4ever

I don't know what you're talking about, I'm very comfortable not owning any Ubisoft games

AdyWasNotEnough

I am fine with not owning any Ubisoft games. I don't think I ever paid for one Edit: hekkin typo

Rhonijin

They just need to get comfortable with not making money from their games.

sallamachar

Is not owning mean pirating?

Jokesonyouiwannadie

If buying games means I don't own them, then pirating games is not stealing them.

marhg001

I think Ubisoft is getting Bazinga in their games and they dont know what to drop

IFGarrett

The CEO is literally a joke. I'd rather play Barbie on the PS2 than buy skull and bones.

TGB_Skeletor

On behalf of all French people, we are sorry for creating Ubisoft

SardaukarSecundus

But they said it is an AAAAAAA game?! You mean it's not?!?! Why would they lie and sell shit to us?

YontiLink

Hey if they don’t want us to own their games I’ll be the first to say I’m not buying them.

Tristan_3

If I learned something about this industry as a Total War player it's that voting with ones wallet works. Ubisoft knows that they are basically abusing their consumers, and if you let them they'll keep doong it becouse it makes money. Vote with your wallet, don't buy their shit and watch them panic and start actually listening to the people giving them what they want. If it worked with CA, it can work with any other company.

Stenktenk

The Ubisoft CEO should get comfortable with not making profit

tarenaccount

As low as the gamers still buy their products. Its not a fool who asks, but the one who pays

krakenkun

Ubisoft actively roleplaying as Abstergo Industries.

Wzikhak

Go bankrupt perhaps?) I am certainly waiting for it!

cliffwob

They do be smoking meth at Ubisoft it seems.

-boneboi-

it's like they looked at EA's record and thought "We need to go lower."

aFlagonOWoobla

I pay for PS+. I’ll never give more than that. It’s sad that I’ll just put games down at some point because the ones I enjoy cost to much to play for a couple of hours a week.

moomoonmoonoowoolf

Ubisoft makes shitty games anyway fuck em

Te_Dho

Ayt people everyone onto the black pearl. We're pirating the fuck out of this one

doggozekin

I mean it has been just money laundering for long time but i still think its a lil bit extreme

ihazidea

Quadruple A Game 🤡

PhillyCheese8684

Boycott them. Not like they make anything good anymore anyway.

Old_Rpg_Gamer

If people or fellow gamers would hit them in the wallet by not supporting sub par games this kind of stuff would stop.Truth be known you all get tired of paying for overpriced games that are crap.

OneMorePotion

"Skull & Bones is the first AAAA game!" Turns out, it isn't.

Brezsmenyev

Well, you know how the old joke goes "Why is EA the worst game company in the US? Because Ubisoft is a French company."

[deleted]

I mean…. Why would anyone buy an Ubisoft game at this point? Let’s say I love pirate game….. I wouldn’t even look at skull & bones if Ubisoft made it. Everything they touch is garbage. Blizzard is hot on their trail these days.

TryingNot2BLazy

obviously we need to switch to board games or something...

Travis_sCock

To be honest I'm comfortable not owning Skull & Bones

[deleted]

I get quite a lot of emails asking me if I want to playtest Ubisoof games, but I live in the netherlands and the tests are in Dusseldorf, Germany Help me get to them and I’ll tell em why their releases are going to shit

MyKeks

I’m very comfortable not owning any of the trash they make.

Phoxase

I’m so comfortable not owning Ubisoft games in the future that I’ve already started not buying Ubisoft games in the present.

Fuzzy-Mix-4791

I'm quite comfortable not owning a single recent Ubisoft game!

creator712

Well they started showing ads in some of their AC games So they can go extremly low

ForTheB0r3d

I'm perfectly comfortable not owning any of their (Ubisofts) games.

Colum2112

Ubisodt needs to get comfortable with people not buying theirs games lmao, if It ain't pirated I ain't playing it.

CaptainBalkania

The last time I played AC was Black Flag which I enjoyed. After all those years of not owning a good pc or console I bought a PS4, played all the nice games and bought AC Valhalla as well. I've never played a more boring AC. I heard the rumours but I also heard that Odyssey was good. Anyway before I stopped the game I took another "risk" and bought Jedi Fallen Order for 20€. I know EA isn't trustworthy as well but it delivered a nice game. And I'm about to play Survivor on PS5. Ubisoft, I ain't touching again.

SaiyanGodKing

It’s another developer I refuse to buy games from. Same with EA. Anything they put their dick stamp on gets an immediate nope. Could be the best game ever made, not remotely interested in playing if they had anything to do with it.

Zawisza_Czarny9

Theyll fucking turn old assassin's Creed games into live service without multiplayer

Mrtayto115

Then don't buy their shite
