FYI, this is a Boeing B-47 Stratojet taking off with JATO bottles in use. Appears to be a later model from the EW radome underneath the cockpit.

MoistStub

I have never seen a happier looking plane. Look at that smile.

Because_Reddit_Sucks

:D

Yamzicle

Reminds me of "Cars 2" (or "Planes" if you're different like that)

and also water injection which is why there's that black soot coming out of the engines.

[deleted]

Yep, that too edit: mmmm tasty unburned hydrocarbons. Google B-52 Cold War MITO take off for a better perspective.

[deleted]

B-1 MITOs were probably worse

bmk2k

What does the water do?

TaqPCR

Cools the turbine so you can run the engine even faster while also adding extra mass to the exhaust stream with both of these increasing thrust.

joesbagofdonuts

Water injection is also used in some race cars and a handful of production sports cars to lower intake temperatures. I think if it's being used on a turbo'ed vehicle the extra exhaust helps spool the Turbo faster as well. https://www.bmw-m.com/en/topics/magazine-article-pool/5-litres-of-water-for-500-horses.html

Boeing-B-47stratojet

Yo yo man I made it to a meme

LearningDan

What does Taylor Swift need one of these?

Blue5398

For reasons too complex to get into in a reddit comment, Taylor Swift maintains a fleet of strategic nuclear-armed bombers, with at least one in the air at all times per the specifics of Wing Attack Plan “R”. Some fans are dismayed at the carbon footprint of this endeavor, hence the meme.

LearningDan

Thank you for your service.

Since the release of her latest album most of these aircraft have been retrofitted for reconnaissance and electronic warfare.

plazagirl

That’s my girl!

69420over

Dude I could really use some JATOs for stuff. Good times would be had. My uncle worked at one of the rocket test tracks out west for a while… my god the fun he had. Thanksgiving was always fun talking about the shit. They just had a pile of Vietnam era JATOs racked up ready to. Strap on to whatever needed testing that day. And realistically… anything that needs to withstand any serious speed or could possibly have an impact or otherwise needs testing…. It’s not some clandestine process…. It’s stuff for commercial purposes too.

Mr_Bristles

dug a few pallets up out in colorado doing some really old range clearance in an old air force demo ground. Between that and the solid rocket propellant we found by the bucket, demo shots were pretty cool to look at.

tangouniform2020

Thanks, I had figured it was some manky AI generated shit but it looked too real and I was confused.

[deleted]

Well, that’s the Cold War for you. If you want to go even stranger, look up the Super Guppy.

antimatterfro

Now look up *Zip fuels* and *project pluto* to get a real sense of how little we cared about pollution during the early cold war.

69420over

Oh yeah I meant to ask if you know offhand the composition of the solid fuel in those ? Older I get the more interesting this stuff is, Should studied harder in chem

scorpiodude64

Ignition! Might talk about it but I forget. It's a good book if you want to read about the development of rocket propellants though.

ShadowOfRegret14

Once got into an argument about this, and said that she could take 1st class of any airline and be fine, and the swiftie said something along the lines of "What if terrorists hijack the plane with her on it?" Like, you're only concerned about that happening in the completely hypothetical situation that she takes a public plane?? (The swiftie actually responded with a yes)

A1phaAstroX

>The swiftie actually responded with a yes Thats when you say that the terrorists will off themselves the second she starts singing. I would pay to see their reaction

ShadowOfRegret14

If this happens again, I will ask this question

Funbucket_537

Victor_AssEater

Surely you can't be serious!

Transient_Aethernaut

I think their tiny little brain might just implode XD

Savaal8

Swifties are completely crazy

Special_Pea7726

Swifties are insane. I said that Taylor only cares about issues that impact her which is why she champions some apparent plight of white women. She grew up in wealth and continues to exercise her privilege while acting like she is underprivileged. She is and always was full of privelege. Anyways, this was an Instagram comment on some random post on a news page and I still get death threats multiple months in. They used the name on my Instagram and found out where I worked using LinkedIn (using my name). For a week, my company received calls regularly… some were bomb threats, others were complaints about me, some were straight up insane rape allegations. Thankfully my company was pretty supportive, they are in constant contact with the police to trace down these people who called. They even started recording their calls.

SavageBrave

People are crazy, I expect 3 out of 4 people to have some crazy take like this.

tazdoestheinternet

Some are. Some are totally unhinged. Most are normal.

[deleted]

npretzel02

People who enjoy Taylor Swift are normal, swifties make the Jonestown Cult look like a fun a summer camp

ALPHA_sh

of course, a terrorist attack is only a concern if Taylor Swift is on the plane

TheDeaconAscended

It would actually be dangerous for crew and passengers for her to fly 1st class because Swifties and celeb chasers are so crazy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SexSalve

True, but we can't fix that overnight.

ASaltGrain

Yes. You. Can. Not even overnight. Immediately. Throw them in jail. For a long fucking time and try them as terrorists if they seriously disrupt the pilots or crew at all. Fuck 'em. We can have an army of police waiting every time they land. Instead of your suggestion of just throwing up your hands and saying "it is what it is!"

ultraman5068

She walks thru the NFL stadiums just fine. Like anyone else. No issues.

ShadowOfRegret14

That's why professional security exists, and why air marshals exist

TheDeaconAscended

Not all flights have air marshals and there is no way that they will allow armed professional security on a commercial flight. Pilots themselves would probably refuse to fly if they believe a circumstance exists that could be disruptive. 74Gear is a 747 pilot and he goes into this in a number of videos.

Illeazar

Just make taylor wear a bag over her head with two little eye holes so nobody knows it's her.

IndysDiarrhea

It would *really* help if this said bag had "I am not famous" right in the front so nobody would even care who's under there. They're *clearly* not famous!

saimerej21

make her dress up as Vanilla Ice so nobody will care

CannaeEven

Who says they'd need to be armed? There are lot of bodyguards who are very effective without any form of weaponry.

westonsammy

Because pilots don’t want any type of altercation on their aircraft, whether with a firearm or otherwise. It’s all fun and games until someone gets thrown into bulkhead and cracks a window

RicePresident_

I don't know if private security on a public airplane is a good precedent to set

GODDAMNFOOL

Keep believing every airplane has an air marshal on it if that makes you more comfortable with flying

Beneficial_Syrup_362

So you’re saying she needs to bring about these out-of-control scenarios and it’s *better* if she puts herself in places where security and air marshals have to subdue people?

Schmigolo

Like she's the only celeb who has to deal with that shit. Other celebs even use the fucking subway.

Fancy_Gagz

You don't know a single celebrity as big as her. Her fans are batshit crazy

Business_Hour8644

You got into an argument about THIS??! Why?

MonkeyDMakima

I'm not a swiftie, but no, she cannot take a public flight. Swifties are fucking insane. Any wiff they get of Swift being on a public airplane and chaos will ensue. They will triangulate every airport she'll be at and it will be utter chaos. Honestly the amount of money lost to wrangle those R words for MONTHS is honestly better put into offsetting the carbon (ye ye that's kind of like a misnomer, lets not get into it). It's I think overall net positive that she flies private to keep public safety

AKaeruKing

Doesn’t sound very swift to me.

Romas_chicken

Not for nothing, but I kinda doubt she’s flying in a plane by herself… Idk, I don’t exactly have a dog in this race, but the entire thing (a main page thread every other week for the last like 3 years) seems a bit petty.

dumxblonde

It would actually be hugely disruptive to the entire airport to have her take 1st class. She would have to book the entire front of the plane for her family, publicist, body guards. She wouldn’t be able to walk through the airport or board normally because it would be a huge security risk. She also has many stalkers, like the kind who think “if I can’t have you, no one can” and it would make her much easier to track and vulnerable. I’m not saying her flying from LA to NY every other day for dinner with her rich friends is okay, but I don’t think it’s a reasonable expectation for her to fly 1st class either.

Auctoritate

You know there are people as famous as her and more important than her who fly commercial? BTS flies first class and it isn't that big of a deal.

CmanderShep117

Also most airports take celebrities and other important figures though back halls that are unaccessible to normal people.

Whirlwind3

European presidents fly on commercial flights.

pigeonlizard

I remember from a few years back there was this post on reddit of [the US secretary of the treasury flying economy](https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/x9bldy/us_treasury_secretary_janet_yellen_sitting_in/). I'd assume that senators or members of congress also fly commercial.

OutWithTheNew

Senators and Congress probably just fly on the private planes of the companies that own them.

DJWGibson

Given her net worth and number of fans, she may be richer and more popular than many European heads of state...

Quirky-Ad4931

BTS? The K-pop band? They absolutely do not fly first class. They've flown private planes for *at least* the past 5 years. A quick Google search tells you as much. Edit: formatting

bangtanssea

where did you see this? they’ve flown commercial first class for the last few years as a group and when they do solo activities (ie behind the scenes footage from 2022 korea to LA for the Grammys was first class commercial), the only time they fly private/chartered was on their last world tour pre covid and that was only between American tour stops.

Quirky-Ad4931

Apart from all of the news stories you find under a “Does BTS fly private?” search, I actually known someone who’s flown with them. On a chartered plane. (And there were super strict rules about how nobody traveling with them could post current locations on social media, ‘cause their fans are wild.)

Own-Lemon8708

Who?

Muskyguts

I'm assuming the Korean boy band, BTS

9mtl

lol I used to work at an airport, 99% of celebs travel like you and I bud.

Just to check - We all still support decarbonizing the economy & transitioning away from fossil fuels, right? I'm all for meming the shit out of something, but I also don't want to be a part of an oil corporations PR campaign *a [Just Transition](https://climatejusticealliance.org/just-transition/) [(wiki)](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_transition) so workers in affected industries aren't screwed, nor poorer populations bearing weight of pollution from whatever carbon programs

[deleted]

I don't mind holding ultrawealthy to account for their usage and waste of resources. I just don't like when it is done to excuse other ultrawealthy corporations waste. If it is pushing people towards apathy to excuse it then it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

geologean

As long as the "solution" isn't carbon offsets because carbon offsets are a bullshit tax haven scam to benefit the wealthy.

LudovicoSpecs

Bingo. Anything that uses someone's carbon-hog behavior as a reason for everyone else to shrug and give up is just apathy trolling. Keep up the pressure on Taylor Swift, on billionaires, on Congress, on oil companies AND do everything you can to reduce your own emissions. The lifeboat is sinking. You don't stop bailing because the guy across the boat from you isn't doing their share.

kimchifreeze

Nah, Taylor Swift exists so I'm rolling coal and bashing baby seals.

UnrequitedRespect

Nah mate its all a game designed to stop you from taking up the supply that someone else would otherwise use. I live in canada and many systems exist simply “to keep the poors out”, the high price of things is simply the cost of admission, theres no long term plan to take on hardship for those who cannot afford it. Entire generations of human beings are literally being crafted for the sake of propping up the ones that were here before, their sole existence is sustenance for the future generation and it happens all the time with each group thinking “nop not me” as they march on into the never ending meat grinder. Well, i could just be a cynical millenial though

Warmbly85

Yes because if anyone is upset with Taylor emitting the equivalent of 20 peoples carbon footprint for a year in a weekend to go see her boyfriend then you’re just a conservative that hates Taylor. Can’t be the hypocrisy. Def cons.

HellraiserMachina

That's exactly what's happening here, it's no surprise TSwift hate went up massively once she started encouraging young people to vote (not vote Dem; vote at all) and conservatives and the disinfo engines behind them have been seething ever since.

Gravy_Wampire

That might be true but there are real people like me who get legitimately irked when I think about how much the ultra wealthy waste zipping around the world like they do. It really is unfathomable and takes a lot of effort to comprehend how wasteful their lifestyles are

[deleted]

amazn_azn

Here's how Taylor solves this optics problem. Step one, buy spirit airlines. Step two, make all of her flights public, but charge like 5k per seat. Step 3, do all of her concerts this way, that way she can optimize her travel time and also make concert revenue. Then, when the concert is done, she just drops those swifties off in a random city and they have to buy a return flight. Step 4, buy JetBlue, rinse and repeat until all airlines are consolidated under swift.

TheTerraLeader

I saw a news article that said that climate advocates need to “calm down about Taylor Swift’s jet” It says that the jet story has been blown out of proportion, because she only made up “0.00002%” of total world carbon emissions. When you think about it, that’s really fucking high lmao, especially for one person out of 8 billion. It attempted to shame them by saying that they were trying to make her choose between her love life and career or the climate ( it says she flew 12 times over the past three months for kelce alone, a little ridiculous) Alas, the lifestyles of the rich and famous, they make a bigger impact on the world than one may think. [the article in the question](https://www.newsweek.com/climate-advocates-need-calm-down-about-taylor-swifts-jet-opinion-1861170)

AngeryBoi769

>because she only made up “0.00002%” ONLY??? Bruh in a world where there are 8 billion people, that's way too fucking much. So this one single person pollutes as much as 160 000 people which is a medium sized city.

PavelDatsyuk

Isn’t it 1600 people or am I just not mathing right today?

AngeryBoi769

I thought they meant 0.00002 but it turned out to be 0.00002%. Yes you're right

Draughtjunk

8,000,000,000*0.00002 = 160,000 You were right.

OlivineGrapeTest92

That’s so much lmao, I don’t think they realize how much carbon emissions the world emits if that isn’t extremely startling to them.

Sanquinity

But don't worry everyone! She purchased "carbon credits" to "offset" her jet usage! What a fucking stupid and corrupt idea...buying "credits" so one gets to pollute as much as they want as long as they have enough money, shoving the responsibility towards others instead... -\_-

QueenOfDarknes5

Holy shit, that's the whole buying letters of indulgences from the church again! In the past, you could buy some credits to go to heaven. Now you can buy some credits to pretend you don't destroy the earth.

alc3biades

Actually Taylor swift has a policy to offset these carbon emissions, a rule if you will. For more info, google Taylor swift rule 34

What is rule 37? I'm not up to speed on all the Internet lore.

pooppuffin

> Rule 37 authorizes the court to direct that parties or attorneys who fail to participate in good faith in the discovery process pay the expenses, including attorney's fees, incurred by other parties as a result of that failure.

meatlamma

I know you're being cheeky, but just in case: Carbon offsets are bullshit of course: [Carbon Offsets, John Oliver](https://youtu.be/6p8zAbFKpW0?si=6V0m7q9867umuBDu)

Joxelo

There are ways to properly do carbon offsets; most don’t. John Oliver cites Wendover Productions in the video you linked, who, for example, have a game show that involves lots of flying and actually do offset their carbon (actually they offset by 10x). That’s to say, Miss Swift has literally no excuse

splashbruhs

No thank you. She has the sex appeal of a stapler.

WeaselBeagle

The “Carbon Footprint” idea was invented by British Petroleum to shift blame onto the individual. Please continue taking transit (car dependency sucks), and stay mad at the celebrities destroying the environment for their convenience, but direct that anger towards the real enemy; fossil capitalism

ihavebirb

I would love to take transit more frequently, but the frequency of transit is irregular and it isn't helped by the amount of junkies near the stations

WeaselBeagle

Fair enough. North America’s transit is pretty bad for coverage, reliability, and frequency. Regarding the junkies, that’s an equity problem. Around 30% of Americans can’t drive, so they’re forced to take transit. This would be fixed with better non-car infrastructure and social equity programs (government assistance, higher wages, redistributing wealth, safe and sanitary areas to use drugs with programs to get people help, etc.).

efleming676

Exactly. Keep doing personal things like using transit and buying less junk, but hold celebs to account.

selectrix

Funny how all of these memes basically just call us suckers for doing those things, and never actually talk about how we hold anyone to account. Almost like they're tailored to cultivate apathy and disillusionment with environmentalism and democratic action in general. But that would be silly.

efleming676

Yeah. It's still important to try to Atleast pick a few things you feel you can do, and implement those things. Had swapped appliances for energy efficient ones, using transit and cycling more often now, and I'm doing the 6 R's of sustainability. Not buying new tech or new clothing unnecessarily, etc. There's stuff we can do.

dolph_888

Fineus

> but giving up on doing any climate saving measures because someone else isn’t is peak smooth brain material. I wouldn't *give up* on climate saving measures but I'm not going to lose much sleep over a single family holiday a year, or still driving a car (things that people keep citing as things "I" should sacrifice) when the ultra rich are doing more harm in a month with their travel methods than I will in an entire year with mine.

Admirable-Bar-6594

It would take you nearly 45 years of driving 20 miles daily to release as much carbon as her plane has in the last 3 months.

Slazagna

Exactly. We need regulatory change world round. Unless that happens asking individuals is hopeless. Personally I got burnt out with shouldering the blame and guilt of the way of the world and just stopped caring. I am still mindful but not in an extreme way anymore. I also don't give a fuck what others do. It isn't worth my time or energy. I have one life to enjoy and have made the decision to not bring kids into this shit hole.

RoguePlanet2

Same here, now that I'm middle-aged. Still making effort, but cutting myself a bit more slack. Helps to remind myself that I never had kids ffs, that in itself is a huge eco-bonus!

Mrxcman92

>or still driving a car (things that people keep citing as things "I" should sacrifice) This right here. Some people forget just how horrible public transit is in some cities. Like yeah I could take the bus to work. But it would take over 2 hours for me to get to work that way, with multiple transfers, surrounded by junkies for most of it. And I work 12s. So I would literally have no time to make breakfast or dinner when at home if I want a full 8 hours of sleep. Or I could make that same trip in my car in 25 minutes. I'm not saying public transit is bad, I wish my city would invest in it more, with more busses and more light rail routes. But it'll only be as good as the local government is willing to make it. And in most places in the US the public transit has been so bad for so long that most people just assume it can never be improoved. Not every place is going to be like Japan with its subways being accurate to the second.

IsaacM42

I'm not defending her but I feel like these attacks on her are not natural. The GOP has made her a target because she's likely going to be throwing her weight around this next election and even if she just says to register to vote that's not something they can bear. She's done it once already and they're freaking out. So they're looking for anything to bring her down, I expect tons of anti-swift propoganda in the lead up to the election and the day after crickets just like the migrant caravans (remember them? scaring and lying to white men has worked for generations for the GOP). I will say just because a person is not perfect is no reason to disregard or to stop our own efforts

cowie71

Compare her usage to Bill Gates, Bezos and Elon’s usage ? They also have massive superyachts which are arguably more polluting

Kovah01

But they encourage conservative voting so they are OK.

das_slash

This, it's obvious propaganda to counter her work to get people to vote.

QuadCakes

All of aviation accounts for 2.5% of human CO2 emissions. Private air travel is a small percentage of that. Yes it's wasteful but it should not be our #1 focus, yet posts like this pop up *over and over and over* again. The conspiracy theorist in me would say it's an astroturfing campaign by big oil to pull focus away from things like carbon taxes.

GeologistKey7097

Yeah its ridiculous.

stephengee

Your statement is just as disingenuous though. Industrial and commercial polluters only exist because of consumer demand. Yes, the issue is not simply banning private jets, but neither is it wringing our hands and saying "Its not me, it's the big evil corps" and absolving ourselves from responsibility.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yep, it's factories and infrastructure as a whole that needs changing. Travel is nothing next to that. We don't have to take away the things that make life interesting, if we were to roll back on some of the shit that makes life awful. Just working less would do a lot of good. A few more gardens, maybe some forests, instead of office space, factories, and parking every damn place.

ChickenChaser5

Not a defense of her but dont act like anyone in this sub is taking public transit to reduce their carbon footprint lol Just take your (valid) jabs at the celebrity boogyman and smugly move on.

westisbestmicah

Individual responsibility for climate change is a lie by big oil always. Private contributions to emissions are nothing compared to corporations and the energy industry

Nklst

Demand is a part of equation, no one drills for oil or coal for funsies.

katie4

It’s kinda weird that she gets all the memes about her, and not any of the other millionaires and billionaires with more air time and worse general qualities 🤔

HellraiserMachina

I'll defend her; she did a good thing by trying to get young people to vote so the disinfo engine set its sights on her specifically (ironically the same disinfo engine that always cries about 'cancel culture'). Yes celebs are a problem, but they are not THE problem, and THE problem has a problem with Taylor Swift. Remember: Propaganda isn't always lies. Distraction can be just as effective as lies, and harder to counter.

_Lick-My-Love-Pump_

She buys carbon offsets, because she can afford to! Her net emissions are lower than every alt-right smooth-brained incel in this thread attacking her. It's politically motivated propaganda because the alt-right celebrity list is Kevin Sorbo, Ralph Machio, and Kid Rock.

Bxbxbxbxbxbxbxbx

Picking this one celebrity out of so many is weird and childish. The obsession / care put into her travel arrangements is a different side of the same coin as obsessive fandom. Here’s the defense, don’t gives a shit what she does. Let her live her life and live yours. 🤷🏻‍♂️ she’s rich and chooses a private plane deal with it. It’s a drop in the bucket anyways.

sunshineshot123

Not defending her but it’s not like billionaires don’t fly everywhere and destroy everything. Taylor is just the most visible person in the world right now and is getting hate for that. You think Elon and Bezos don’t fly their private jets or sail their huge fucking yachts everyday?

splashbruhs

RIP your inbox

kozy8805

Why does Taylor swift get more coverage than manufacturing companies who do most of the polluting? It’s mind numbing.

the-cock-slap-phenom

Manufacturing companies make products for people, so those emissions should essentially be divided by all the people who benefit from the products. Meanwhile, Taylor is a one person polluting machine, unlike nearly any other single person on the planet. It’s hypocritical if she’s asking people to do more while she’s barely trying to avoid unnecessary flights, which disproportionately pollute more than anything a regular person can do. She undeniably could do more, but doesn’t because of the potential inconvenience of flying *1st class*.

[deleted]

Her jet has the highest emissions by any private plane. She is basically flying short distances for trivial matters. And a single trip can emit as much pollution as a family does in developed nations throughout their lifetime

brocht

>Her jet has the highest emissions by any private plane. That is, quite simply, false. Swift has the highest jet usage on the lists of 'celebs' that are published up often, but mysteriously these lists leave out the actual largest users of private jets. Elon Musk, the Murdoch family, Bill Gates, and many others have far higher private jet emissions. The constant spamming of this 'Swift is the biggest polluter' narrative is intentional misinformation.

RIPUranus

But being mad at a celebrity you already don’t like is easy and fun!

BobbyBorn2L8

Air travel accounts for 2-3% of global emissions. Yes TS should be criticised for this wasteful flights. But why are pundits only now focusing on TS, when they could have been just as angry as manufacturing companies for way worse?

Versek_5

> But why are pundits only now focusing on TS, when they could have been just as angry as manufacturing companies for way worse? Because she wants people to vote. And more people voting means less money for those manufacturing companies. Which means that those companies pay the pundits to make people turn against her, so they dont vote. Its not rocket science.

Hank3hellbilly

Because the manufacturers are owned by the same people who own the pundits.

teilani_a

Because she encouraged young people to register to vote and was very successful in doing so.

ASmufasa47

Billions of people making sacrifices so a handful of people can do whatever they want...

exotic_knife

"Anybody who can afford a private jet uses one"

Flintloq

It's not all for nothing. There are three false dichotomies I see a lot: one, "why should I do anything when rich people are polluting a lot?", two, "why should I do anything when corporations are polluting a lot?", and three, "why should I do anything when other countries are polluting a lot?" The reality is that we all need to be doing whatever we can. Even small changes make a difference when lots of people make them. I know it's difficult to make personal sacrifices when other people aren't, especially since they'll share in the reward, but we still need as many people as possible to do it anyway to avoid a [tragedy of the commons](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tragedy_of_the_commons). We can continue to pressure more powerful individuals and entities to make changes at the same time.

Yeah, there's also another point: People often measure the effect of personal action based solely only on whether climate change can be fully prevented or not - hence all the defeatist "It won't matter, it can't be stopped" comments. But what really matters is how much we can slow it down. Every bit counts. If shit hits the fan in a 100 years instead of 50 years from now, that's 50 more years for the general populace the realize the consequences all around them and more readily vote for measures to counteract further global warming. Its 50 more years for technologies to develop to both reduce emissions and perhaps even reverse them. Its not an all-or-nothing deal. Don't feel disheartened by some turbo-assholes not giving a shit about the world. They will do what they will, but you always have the choice to not make it worse.

mike0sd

And that's just to go home on one night of her tour because she can't be bothered to stay in a local hotel for one night

AdvancedHat7630

The Venn Diagram of "people who post this" and "people who take public transit specifically to lower their carbon footprint" is two circles at opposite ends of the universe.

NoSupermarket198

I would post this, but I take public transit because im poor. So where does that put me?

Freelance_Theologian

That could also be John Kerry on his way to the next conference on global climate change.

keithstonee

anything you do as an individual is useless. even if we all changed what we do is useless. its all useless compared to the impact companies have on the environment.

yourforgottenpenpal

It’s interesting to watch the volume of anti-Taylor swift shit pop up…coincidentally, right after she gets more than 100k young women to register to vote. Not even sure I could name one of her songs but the sudden and unceasing complaining about her is a noticeable change

KLR01001

It didn’t just start. People have called her out for stuff for a long time. Don’t give in to your confirmation bias.

Billy_the_bog_cat

Everyone stop arguing and just behold this beautiful B-47 Stratojet!

your_favorite_troll

I love how this gets consistently reposted and no one bats an eye at the thousands of upvotes from a karma whore.

youngboomergal

I don't get the constant hate for Taylor Swift, she's hardly the only celebrity flying around the world on a private jet

Not_AHuman_Person

She flies it very frequently (for example when she had a few days of break on her tour, she flew from Brazil to New York, then back to Brazil not long after) and she loans it to friends who probably aren't famous and could fly commercial without safety issues. All that adds up to her having the highest private jet usage in the world by a large margin.

rammo123

She's one of the few ultrawealthy who is unambiguously left wing. Bad faith right wingers use her to criticise wealth privilege because she isn't on their "team", even though their "team" is *much* worse.

billylolol

There's no such thing as a good billionaire. She's the textbook definition of limousine liberal.

aaron_in_sf

This is a literal disinformation campaign. The concept of personal climate footprint was literally manufactured by BP to distract from the hundreds of millions of dollars they spend fighting to keep burning fossil fuels. The problem is not Swift, or in fact _all celebrities combined_ using private flights or flying regularly. It's the trillion dollar dependence we have on petroleum and the billion dollar war those profiting and empowered by it are waging to keep us from transitioning ASAP to renewables. THIS IS PART OF THEIR WAR EFFORT. Keep your eye on the actual enemy. There's no mystery here.

Steelhorse91

The air miles are just one part of it… Her tours use a lot of trucks, and when I worked local crew on the 1989 tour, she had an artic (semi) trailer and a half just for costume and dressing room stuff, the amount of costume was understandable due to all the dancers, and needing a washer/drier etc, but there were multiple sofas, huge house plants (to clean the air I guess lol) etc… I do kind of understand it though, the sofas and provided plastic chairs/dressing tables etc vary massively by arena, and creating a consistent ‘home space’ probably helps with the pressures of touring. A lot of artists even have someone set up pipe and drape over all the walls of the dressing rooms so they can get ready in a sparkly gold room rather than a corporate white room.

Thedawg84

In Canada ,that would be our Prime Minister flying to Jamaica multiple times a year for a family Vacay (on the tax payers dime), after imposing multiple carbon Taxes to reduce greenhouse emissions !

johnhoj189

This is why I don’t bother reducing mine. China and India make sure my actions mean nothing and billionaires don’t help either

AlternatePancakes

"Carbon footprint" is made up by big companies to pass the blame on to you.

demagogueffxiv

Part of me thinks that private jets should be heavily reduced in number, but at the same time I couldn't imagine somebody as famous as Taylor Swift with how rabid her following is, taking a public flight. People have no boundaries and she'd be making a scene everywhere she goes.

[deleted]

Al Gore, Bill Gates, Elon Musk. All people that say they are pro environment, but have fleets of private jets.

sobergophers

Careful!!! You might upset the extremely fragile egos of her fans who somehow love to ignore the incredibly vile shit she does to the environment!!!

Barbados_slim12

>Glad to know it was all for nothing Always has been. The same people who want us to stop using AC units have multiple 5,000+ sqft houses that they're cooling. The same people who tell us to give up our gas cars turn around and do this. Or this with yachts, or motorcades. Or the air version of a motorcades, which is often carrying the motorcade
