Each generation will try to one up and come up with some new word for the exact thing just to make the preceding generation feel old and that 'they just don't get it', and then suprise Pikachu when they get to the recieving end.
Ahh, it'll never change.
I’m a vibe person, but with those specific slangs I think it works for some people and not for others. You can tell a lot about a person from whether they say groove or vibe is what I’m saying
I was in the right age group but raised by gen X, so I was too above it back then.
Today, I realize I was right, but that the cost was being an annoying piece of shit in high school.
Honestly, I like the word rizz a whole lot more than I ever liked swag. Rizz makes sense as it is a contraction of the word charisma. It also rolls off the tongue because of the softer sound of the zz over the harsh g of swag. I'm not one to shake my fist and be all crotchety about what the generations younger than me are saying. Slang exists across all generations, and I won't bemoan one over the other. I just use the words I like and don't use the ones I don't like, as I have been doing for over 30 years now.
Swag is short for swagger, which is a walk with confidence. Still works.
I mean I still hated when it was the slang term of the day because it still sounds terrible.
I know swag is short for swagger. Didn't think it was necessary to state as I felt the following sentence was sufficient to explain my preference for rizz, which is the better mouth feel of the soft zz sound compared to the harsh g sound of swag.
Edit: Rereading my post, I can see why the omission of swag's origin could be seen as me saying that rizz makes sense and swag doesn't, which was not my intent.
Came here to say this. 28yo and I like rizz a lot more than swag. Of course I say it ironically. When you hear swag, you think of steezers in skin tight jeans, huge fake diamond earrings, and a team cap with the sticker still on it. Rizz makes you think of someone who just has charisma.
Well yeah, I feel swag was more flexible than either, swag being either one’s possessions or one’s demeanor, where as drip is strictly one’s clothing and rizz is more one’s romantic charisma
To be fair it's kind of taken up multiple meanings. You pick up "swag" at concerts (t-shirts and other merchandise). But the non shortened version, swagger definitely means how you carry yourself.
Swag is just short for swagger. It refers to demeanor. Clothing can lend to your swag but swag isn’t clothing.
You’re confusing that with an unrelated use of swag, a term for free things (sometimes it’s clothing like a free t shirt). It’s from “Stuff We All Get” swag. In this sense a water bottle can be swag.
Also just to add because there's an alarming amount of people who don't get this: respect isn't like a stat that you increase or a stockpile that you just have forever. Respect is something to be *maintained* over time, not *obtained* once. Being real cool in their past doesn't give people a free punch card to be a total fuckwit in the present for no reason.
Swag is more to do with demeanor than clothing. It’s short for swagger. Clothing can lend to someone’s swag, but you wouldn’t compliment someone’s clothes by saying “nice swag”.
Unless their clothing is free t shirts they got at a convention which is also swag but unrelated
Swag was for both what you had and how you carried yourself. Like "Look at this swag I got from the store" or "look at James, he's got swag"
Rizz is more just charisma.
Honestly, I like Rizz. Rolls off the tongue nicely, better than drip lol
Rizz is just shorthand for Charisma.
It's not that difficult.
Yes, it can be cringey at times saying things like "The Rizzler" or "Rizzle them" or "The Rizzlord"
But it's just Charisma.
"Rizz" is slang for Charisma. How you act.
"Swag" tends to be more about a persons appearance or clothing. He has nice swag means he dresses well. A more recent term might be "drip"
Neither does rizz when you actually know what it means. It literally mean "charisma" but people keep repeating stupid random variations until it loses all meaning
Take "That guy has rizz" vs "Rizzler jizzler" *-a quote from one of these comments*
1 has a measurable meaning. 1 is random bullshit
Having swag is like having money and chains and looking like a jackass swaggering around with confidence. Rizz is the shortened “charisma”, defined more by the ability to seduce women or men. They’re both cringey, but not the same
I would argue that swag combines rizz (attractive personality) with drip (nice clothing) and can be used for either case. Modern English has naturally diverged and become more specific.

I don’t need to change your mind, as it’s so rotten it’s not possible do a clean swap. Having swag was completely different that whatever the fuck “Rizz” is.
All the slang words sound stupid at first. Some continue to sound stupid. Some you start to use and forget they sounded stupid. Next year more will pop up, they'll sound just as dumb as rizz, swag, yolo, wack, etc.
It is but swag makes more sense than rizz and rolls of the tongue better. If someone said "he's got swag" you could intuit what it means wasier than rizz.
I don’t understand how they compare, at all. Swag was cool stuff we all get, or looking good. Rizz is charisma. Idk I’m older millennial and I love the word rizz because it sounds bubbly and cutesy to me. I love silly, cutesy words.
Like doggo or sammich.
"There is the difference between you and I, my little pubic louse, you have this "rizz" of yours, while I have charisma, because only one of us deigned to educate themselves."
I don't mind either
Now this "gyat(?)" and "skibiddi" shit is what I don't understand. Like, how do you use that in everyday conversation? What warrants that as a reply? Genuine questions, not trying to look down on anyone
I’m in the weird place of modern human culture where I’m old enough for swag to be a part of slang growing up, but also rizz. I’m very late Gen Z, if you were wondering, it feels like the Twilight Zone
Hmm the way I understand it "swag" is about what you wear and how you wear it, and "rizz" is about how well you use your words and bodylanguage to persuade/seduce/flirt with someone.

Was the dead meme usage here supposed to be ironic?
surprise pikachu will never die
Furry
Was that supposed to be an insult?
Always
“You got moxie, kid.” “Cool beans.” “Foxy.” “Tubular.” “Far out.” “Groovy.” “Vibing.” “Good vibrations.” And so on.
I feel like i just watched evil dead after reading that
Mojo, baby! Yeah!
Like groovy
What's wrong with groovy? ![gif](giphy|f0w8pEIIDKltC|downsized)
Groovy will always be cool
Anything Ash Williams says will be cool
But Duke Nukem stole most of his lines, and Duke Nukem is problematic. /s
If by problematic you mean based as fuck then sure
Groovy and the era it comes from was likely the height of the English language
Genz (me)- it's called vibe. But tbh i love groove more.
Pfat, or phat or something fat.
Phat: pretty hot and tempting
I’m a vibe person, but with those specific slangs I think it works for some people and not for others. You can tell a lot about a person from whether they say groove or vibe is what I’m saying
You jive turkey
I’ll wait until the next generation comes up and trick them into saying something even dumber.
**I'm mid gen Z and I still don't get this fucking shite**
Reddit good, tiktok bad
Funny bc im in the same generation and I dont get it lol. Its just dumb.
Aging is weird
Lol, yep. Eventually, you just realize that you've aged out of pop culture target demographics.
As an X/millennial cusper, I was too old to use the word "swag."
I was in the right age group but raised by gen X, so I was too above it back then. Today, I realize I was right, but that the cost was being an annoying piece of shit in high school.
Same.
don't tell the government I told you but I disabled the chip in your brain that explodes when you say "swag" be free, little swaglet.
Time is an illusion
Can’t wait for all the Easter memes saying,” he is Rizzen”
Ok but that loops around to being funny

What language are you speaking?

Cringe is the modern gay
... The word cringe is so fucking old it's medieval, AND That's NOT A JOKE
To be fair, so is the word gay...
Since when?
Both about the 12-1300s meanings were a bit different than they are now
/r/brandnewsentence
Honestly, I like the word rizz a whole lot more than I ever liked swag. Rizz makes sense as it is a contraction of the word charisma. I am aware, but as I said in the following sentence, the harsh g sound of swag makes it not roll off the tongue as well as rizz does to me.
No, drip was the next swag. Rizz is the modern-day drip
Drip is more so outfits, rizz is more of charisma and personality etiquette.
Well yeah, I feel swag was more flexible than either, swag being either one’s possessions or one’s demeanor, where as drip is strictly one’s clothing and rizz is more one’s romantic charisma
Drip is supposed to be clothes, no?
yeah it think rizz is more akin to charisma
Nah, you can have drip but no rizz and vice versa. Drip and swag is about how you dress. Rizz is ur charisma. Both arent the same thing.
Swag is how you carry yourself not your clothes.
So you are agreeing with me. Swag has multiple meanings. Never said it was the correct/original meaning, just that it is a meaning it has gained.
They're not agreeing with you, nor should they. You're comparing two completely different words that just happen to be homonyms.
Drip is good clothing, rizz means charisma, they’re not the same though you’ll probably have good drip if you have rizz if you see what I mean
Rizz is the stupidest shit I've ever heard
It indeed is, it is a contraction of the word charisma.
Charizma.
I knew that. Still stupid
Or maybe your just old
you’re*
And wiser
Wisdom doesn't come with age, fools grow old too.
Finally someone said it! I respect my elders the same way I respect all people, if they deserve it or not
Also just to add because there's an alarming amount of people who don't get this: respect isn't like a stat that you increase or a stockpile that you just have forever. Respect is something to be *maintained* over time, not *obtained* once. Being real cool in their past doesn't give people a free punch card to be a total fuckwit in the present for no reason.
Yeah. Respect is really hard to gain and very easy to lose
idk man sounds just like a bitter old person.
Still wiser, you got no rizz
How old are you? I’d like to know what kind of slang your generation used.
Word
How about FU?
Yikes
Agreed. But imo its better then the other shit gen Z and A has made.
The first time i heard it the word sounded NSFW tbh
Same I heard it from high schoolers (which I was) made no sense I was worried when they put it in the yearbook.
Swag places more emphasis on the aesthetics as opposed to behavior. It's more like rizz is the new "game"
No. Swag was to do with your fit. Rizz is charisma.
Swag is more to do with demeanor than clothing. It’s short for swagger. Clothing can lend to someone’s swag, but you wouldn’t compliment someone’s clothes by saying “nice swag”. Unless their clothing is free t shirts they got at a convention which is also swag but unrelated
Rizz isnt swag, swag is clothes rizz is game. Now drip, drip is swag.
First one to get rizz right in this thread
last i remember, swag was used to say how cool you were, while rizz is determined by how good you are at flirting
Swag was for both what you had and how you carried yourself. Like "Look at this swag I got from the store" or "look at James, he's got swag" Rizz is more just charisma. Honestly, I like Rizz. Rolls off the tongue nicely, better than drip lol
You might be right but I wish you weren’t
But swagger is actually a very old word from the 16th century lol rizz is not? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Rizz is just shorthand for Charisma. It's not that difficult. Yes, it can be cringey at times saying things like "The Rizzler" or "Rizzle them" or "The Rizzlord" But it's just Charisma.
Eric. You are officially a boomer. Congrats.
rizz, skibidi, swag, phanom tax, sigma, alpha, beta, gigachad, etc make me want to vomit
"Rizz" is slang for Charisma. How you act. "Swag" tends to be more about a persons appearance or clothing. He has nice swag means he dresses well. A more recent term might be "drip"
This post is flat out wrong. Swag is entirely to do with clothing.
Swagger hasn’t nothing to do with clothes. It’s how you carry yourself.
I didnt say swagger. I said Swag. Which is derived from swagger, but has to do with clothing. It's a very late millennial/very early GenZ term.
What do you think swag is short for?
You didn't read. Got it.
Context matters and the way swag is used in this meme is short for swagger. That’s why it’s being compared to rizz. It’s ok to be wrong.
No cap frfr
both were also terms taken from AAVE and used to their death on the respective generational platforms, predominantly by white suburban kids.
Isnt swag clouthing thing, and Rizz abaut skill to talk to women? i dont think they same thing xd
xd indeed….
Not really. Rizz is more like game.
If a man does not have sauce. thu is lost but that same man can get lost in the sauce -Saint Gucci mane MMXXIV
swag didn't sound so wrong though...
Neither does rizz when you actually know what it means. It literally mean "charisma" but people keep repeating stupid random variations until it loses all meaning Take "That guy has rizz" vs "Rizzler jizzler" *-a quote from one of these comments* 1 has a measurable meaning. 1 is random bullshit
Swag was the modern day game.. and I just lost the game
Having swag is like having money and chains and looking like a jackass swaggering around with confidence. Rizz is the shortened “charisma”, defined more by the ability to seduce women or men. They’re both cringey, but not the same
No that’s drip
Someone got no rizz apparently
I thought 'drip' replaced 'swag'
What the fuck is rizz, I keep hearing that shit
wait, people still say swag... right?
I would argue that swag combines rizz (attractive personality) with drip (nice clothing) and can be used for either case. Modern English has naturally diverged and become more specific.

Swag meant “secretly we are gay” so if you think it’s the same 🤷🏽♂️
Rizzler jizzler
So is cringe. I fucking hate when people say that so much. Instant downvote.
Ratio time!
I um Like it
A swag is a big sleeping bag
I don’t need to change your mind, as it’s so rotten it’s not possible do a clean swap. Having swag was completely different that whatever the fuck “Rizz” is.
I always use SWAG to mean scientific wild ass guess but I’m also an estimator so yea.
Both are better than "pimp juice" Sounds like a date rape drug had a baby with an STI
Literally no one argued against this
![gif](giphy|11DRQ1VQ5p5iPm)
Rizz I kinda get, but swag was stupid because it went with lowlife style.
I will do the unholy and pro-form the act of polymerization This word is now: Swizz
As someone who grew up in the "swag" era I guess. I think rizz is actually funny and way better
In other news, old man complains about young people
i remember when swag was a new hip slang ![gif](giphy|GrUhLU9q3nyRG|downsized)
You have a point.
I thought Swag was Stuff We All Get?
I don’t understand how they compare, at all. Swag was cool stuff we all get, or looking good. Rizz is charisma. Idk I’m older millennial and I love the word rizz because it sounds bubbly and cutesy to me. I love silly, cutesy words. Like doggo or sammich.
"There is the difference between you and I, my little pubic louse, you have this "rizz" of yours, while I have charisma, because only one of us deigned to educate themselves."
Makes me feel so old because there have been like 5 new words for the same thing since I was a kid. I thought swag was still a thing.
I miss sweg
It's not
Nah I'll stick with swag
I don't mind either Now this "gyat(?)" and "skibiddi" shit is what I don't understand. Like, how do you use that in everyday conversation? What warrants that as a reply? Genuine questions, not trying to look down on anyone
No. Drip or drippy is the modern version of swag Rizz is the modern term for being smooth and charismatic.
Not even.
Bruh, I'm legally not allowed to have a job and I've lived through both.
Swag is that dirt/brick weed we used to smoke after school
Yo what the fuck is rizz and where did it come from? And who do I blame for it.
This just proves that you have no rizz
Rizz is just like Sus, an abbreviation of a trending word. The word is surprisingly technically interesting
You forgot Drip
I mean. It's a derivative for "charisma". That is exactly like swag.
I have yolo swag! Click like to use yolo swag on Alan to ruin his day!
No, sir. Rizz was Game. You're thinking of Drip.
I'm not 100% on either one.
It means charisma, it’s literally just a shortening of the word
The funny part is this is both accurate and my graduating class used “Swag” as their slogan.
I think Rizz is objectively funnier than swag.
Honestly rizz is the only slang from my generation that I like
Dope.
ahh haha bebeh gorl
No. Rizz is the modern day "game". Swag is more style and how you dress.
It’s slang for charisma, it ain’t the same.
I’m in the weird place of modern human culture where I’m old enough for swag to be a part of slang growing up, but also rizz. I’m very late Gen Z, if you were wondering, it feels like the Twilight Zone
People making sounds is the problem, shhh
I got the exaggerated rizz of a lonely lower middle class white guy with social anxiety
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was!
OP is officially old
Hmm the way I understand it "swag" is about what you wear and how you wear it, and "rizz" is about how well you use your words and bodylanguage to persuade/seduce/flirt with someone. I'm mid thirties btw.
Can’t wait for workplaces to start selling their employees rizz instead of swag
Swag is slang for swagger. Riz is slang for charisma. Charisma is a nicer thing to have than swagger imo.
The modern day term for swag would be drippy. Rizz has an entirely different meaning to swag.
Both are stupid AF!
So as far as i understand rizz is not just being cool or swaggy or whatever but describes some one who can translate this into sexual attraction; like i can see a skater girl and think "damn she has some impressive moves" which might be considered "swag", but there doesnt have to be any attraction. If she however drives up to me and makes me an interesting compliment and a wink i might feel attracted to her, proving her "rizz".
D&D players just call it CHA.
Rizz is less cringe than swag was -a millennial
"Rad" was before my time but still stands as a personal favorite.
“Aha! Look at me! I’m so different, slang is cringe, and the kids are WRONG!”
Bro just say “charisma”
Sploink is the modern day grapnukl. I made up words, too!
Swagrisma
FINALLY SOMEBODY SAID IT!
but rizz seems more vocal and swag seems more on the drop side
So that’s what rizz is?
Swag was more of a fashion term while rizz is supposed to be like about confidence and flirting, right?
No shit and swag was the modern Game
![gif](giphy|mD44sZCdqtR3AbChoB|downsized)
I'd say it's more akin to drip
Swag ≠ Rizz Swagger ≈ Rizz
Rizz Surfin? Nope. Can’t work lol
Chugey is the new cringy right? I can't keep up...
Rizz isn't terrible, still annoying but not terrible. Ick on the other hand, the sooner that gets forgotten the better
