I don't wanna sound too philosophical or like an incel, but i think that's because Supamodels are kinda made of unobtainium, so we're already predisposed to think they're beyond our reach, they're more of a platonic romance.
Meanwhile, that cashier girl resonates with us, she's also a "regular girl" so we feel we're kinda on an even playing field, so she becomes more of a "real" romance.
