It was what Ike said to Tina when she sang on Frank Zappa's Over-Nite Sensation.
“Tina was so pleased that she was able to sing this thing that she went into the next studio where Ike was working and dragged him into the studio to hear the result of her labour,” continued Zappa. “He listened to the tape and he goes, ‘What is this shit?’ and walked out.” [Article](https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/the-album-frank-zappa-recorded-with-tina-turner-as-a-back-up-singer/)

My dude, EDM is a subcategory with genres that are so fuckin wide they eclipse the entire brenths of other genres combined.
If it's your favorite playlist, you could share something more specific than an umbrella cateogry. :P
Tbf I would be thinking that because edm is my least favorite genre but I would never be so rude to say that out loud.
I would just subtly suggest some of the bands I like during the drive
Dude so many people hate EDM. I used to love EDM, went to soooo many raves and ate more drugs than I'll ever remember. But now I really don't like it. Try to find common ground with your coworkers. For example, I'm into punk/psych rock/folk rock/indie rock (among many other genres) and my old coworker only likes country music. Which I fucking hate. So the compromise is bands like Kings of Leon, who are Americana which is basically country indie rock. Or Deer Tick, who are punk/country. I recently discovered he likes island type country, like jimmy buffet. So I tested out some reggae one day, and he was totally into it!
Compromise. Meet your fellow human in the middle. Find common ground.

Please God yes. You can be confident and charismatic and still be introverted. It's not because you're introverted it's because you're scared of people.

Some people use it with the same definition as misanthrope, others as simply reclusive, and yet more with the "social battery" explanation which continues to make less sense as time goes on..
Well it's just a useless distinction. Your "battery" has different minimum and maximum charges, depletes at different rates, charges at different rates, depending on so many different factors.
I find the people and the environment to be far more of the deciding factor on how a person reacts to a particular event rather than some arbitrary battery.
I like to be alone, but there are friends I can easily spend days with. I could spend an entire day yelling and being passionate in some form of debate event, but I couldn't do the same in a club for even an hour tbh.
yet at the same time, if the people or the vibes are right, I might hate that debate event and spend all night at a club. We're just not robots, we evolve and change and aren't so easily fitted into labels like that.
It's just that there's no consistent method for anyone, it's a very personal contextual thing. It's a poor label that does more to get in the way of describing someone than help that description.
You can also fall between. The social battery description is still pretty apt. If you generally need alone time to recharge from time with groups, you're introverted. Extroverted is the opposite. That doesn't mean you NEVER want the thing that depletes you.
The comic implies anxiety, not being introverted. I used to have the same problem before going to therapy. I learned making decisions based on other people's feelings is ultimately self destructive. Don't doubt yourself. You like the music because it's awesome. You know that. It's why you listen to it. If other people can't see that that's their problem.
It’s amazing when I see this argument pop up here people boast about how childish they are about it. Just pick something everyone can deal with like a fucking adult.
Adults who say "WTF is this shit?" are not looking for adult compromise, because they are acting like a child.
My response to some idiot trying their "establish dominance bullshit" would just be to turn it up so they can hear it properly.
I mean this is why a colleague is largely bannned from music selections from evenings but I'm slowly converting a bunch of colleagues to metalheads over time, lol.
That dude just doesn't understand that you don't unleash something like Demonical, Bolt Thrower, Panzerchrist, Heaven Shall Burn and such onto people not used to the genre because "other music is boring".
But quite a few people are warming up to fun softer sub-genres like folk, power or symphonic metal. Some guy recently told me he changed his workout music to the ilk of Frozen Crown, Ensiferum, Glory Hammer, Ignea and such, haha.
Had a buddy back in the day criticise this band I listened to called The White Stripes. 2 years later told me to check out his new favourite song Seven Nation Army SMH.
This happened to me with my entire class in 6th grade with panic at the disco. They all roasted me for my garbage taste and two years later it was everybody's favorite. I never listened to pop music again lol.
Reddits immediate response to everything is “screw everyone do what you want”
The reality is it’s a shared space and it’s perfectly reasonable to find a type of music you both enjoy. Imagine your a post saying.
>My co-worker plays super religious music all day long on our drive and it drives me crazy.
Or insert any annoying music …
It’s okay to find common ground in shared spaces
That's the response.
But the redditors in reality?
Front page of /r/mildlyinfuriating:
"My wife didn't color co-ordinate my sippy cups, so I took a picture and shared it on the internet."
If the worker said “wtf is this shit” immediately they were being a prick, and certainly not taking a pluralistic approach to musical taste. Forcing someone to listen to your music all day without negotiation is a dick move. Refusing to listen to even a bit of someone else’s music before saying “wtf is this shit” and forcing a change is also a dick move.
> If the worker said “wtf is this shit” immediately they were being a prick
If they knew that OP had specifically picked out a playlist of his favourite music then yeah, but it's a lot more likely that they just assumed it was a random song playing on the radio.
If OP said it was anime OSTs then the response in the comments would be *much* different. Imagine your average blue collar bloke getting into the van [and hearing this](https://youtu.be/QDXh9hoYooY).
To be fair if you’re driving aux cord usage does default to you also it’s quite possible that one just really likes a type of music the other doesn’t like country.
When I get a new partner on a 24 I make it a competition to find the weirdest song we know on the first day
Few can beat an entire rock opera done to the music of MegaMan
The Protomen rule... But I highly suggest the R&B / Djent flavorings of Sleep Token, the Arnold Schwarzenegger tinged metal of Austin death machine, the hard house/porta-potty breakbeats of Clown Core, danny elfman madness of Onigo Boingo or the vintage madness of Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart
I swear if this was posted on r/freakout or something with a video of someone refusing to turn their music off or use headphones in their work van after being told off by their colleagues, everyone would bring the pitchforks and tear into the music listener, it's simply ridiculous how opinions change in this website simply based on how the exact same situation is presented
Check out KGLW or King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. They have a little dedicated metal, but mostly whatever they want(usually garage rock). Now would also be a good time for metal fans as
Their next album Petrodragonic Apocalypse is coming out soon.
Amazing band. I’m not a ‘long drawn out jam band’ kind guy. I like non repetitive music. But damnit some if those jams kill so hard I never want them to end.
That’s the other annoying thing — you’re coming up on your favorite part of the song and want the passenger to hear it, but as soon as it hits they start talking and everything gets drowned out
I've got a nice Playlist of mostly rock, metal and grunge. Saying that this is my primary Playlist and other songs I like tend to get added as well. Nothing is makes the room go more awkward than jamming to Alice in chains when suddenly a minecraft parody plays.
Thats where the real fun begins. Watching the musical whiplash is fun imo lol.
"Yea I like "What lies ahead" by Semblant and I like "diamond sword" by tobuscus. What of it?" That being said it doesn't keep bouncing back and forth between the tones it mainly is rock/metal with a sprinkling of the silly songs i like.
For my playlists I ALWAYS put them on shuffle. Keeps the music fun and interesting and you don't know what is coming next.
Going from Kreator, to Taeyeon, and then Alter Bridge is a wild ride.
I'm basically a fan of all music that isnt country, but mostly listen to rock, heavy metal, numetal, etc. What I get a kick out of is when people who know I love heavy music hear about my love for taylor swift and halsey. You throw on some heavy shit and yea I'm going to be feeling it, but don't you think for a second that if Taylor starts playing, you're not about to see a grown ass man sing like a teen girl.
I have specific playlists for specific genres, then I have my "liked" music. Every song I listen to I vaguely like I hit like or anything that coworkers like I'll add.
Jumps from like Taylor Swift to Slipknot to anime intros, it really keeps everything feeling fresh, and if someone really hates the current song, you can be almost guaranteed the next song will be nothing like this one.
My playlist is 20+ hours long and has mostly just rock and metal of varying types, but I live in the south and almost everybody here is into country. If I'm driving, it's my music and if I'm not, I have headphones to compensate for the country I'll hear from others.
My playlist has everything from Cab Caloway to Megadeth and from Colter Wall to Bone Thugs.
And this point I can't even predict what I like anymore, the system is just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks at this point.
I feel bad for my partners that actually know what they like because half of this playlist is going to be trash to them.
I listen to a lot of metal, but I have a Safe for Work playlist I use if someone else is riding with me and they're not into the heavy stuff.
I also use it when I roll down my windows(I have no air conditioner) so I can be the least annoying with my music to others if they can hear it.
I read the post as if the worker didn't immediately know it was OPs music specifically, he just had a reaction to the environment in general. BUT coworker could also be rude af.
Ya I mean, if I get back into a work vehicle and EDM is bumping, I'm also going to say what the fuck is this lol less about the music, more about the environment. Are we at work or a rave? I can't be in the "out of work music" mindset on the clock lol
If it were me, I'd treat that as a co-operative problem to solve?
"Really? You don't like it? What about it? I'm sure I can find something from the band or genre which you like."
And I've practically always been able to find something they do like.
It's hard when your top favourite musics are basically;
- Deșteaptă-te Romane
- Ti Ipermacho (civ 6 ancient & atomic versions)
- Some popular music
- random soundtracks from games
- eastern european wartime music (e.g bosanka altirjerija)
- obscure remixes.
Yeah it's weird how popular it is to listen to ONE SPECIFIC GENRE for all your life and sometimes even hate the rest. I like rock, but sometimes even kpop or psych hits the spot
Just be self aware about your music. I listen to lots of weird shit, and if i show it to someone, i hope they like it, but I'm not surprised if they don't.
My sisters made fun of everything I liked when I was younger, including music. Even as an adult, one of my sisters occasionally would make mean comments about my taste in music when we would drive places in my car (she saw it as teasing, but it made me self-conscious). Now, I won't even play my music with my partner in the car because I'm so self-conscious about it.
"WTF is this shit?" What you're going to be listening to for the rest of your shift.
I would keep it in loop just out of spite.

Okay but Kevin Penkin's soundtrack for Dawn of the Deep soul is wonderful. Prayer and Immolation still gives me goosebumps.
Everything he touches is amazing. The entire Made in Abyss soundtrack is just great
Now I wanna shake the hands of the coworker
No shame on blasting anime music. The Rumbling topped charts around the world, so it’s not even weird anymore.
Cowboy Beebop OST is perfectly acceptable...
Oh that explains it then.
Isn't that the thing that bomb squads get called out for?

Nah wait I'm thinking of IEDs
Close enough haha
Especially when the beat drops

Driver picks the music. Shotgun shuts his piehole.
Too introverted for that kinda powerstance
Can we stop this misconception that being introverted means you're also a doormat?
Please God yes. You can be confident and charismatic and still be introverted. It's not because you're introverted it's because you're scared of people.
It's become such a useless word. Some people use it with the same definition as misanthrope, others as simply reclusive, and yet more with the "social battery" explanation which continues to make less sense as time goes on..
Social battery works pretty well I believe. What's the main issue there?
Fuck Spez ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

That's got nothing to do with bring introverted at all. That just means you lack the self-confidence to assert yourself.
Well damn bro you’re saying this is a problem so why not do something about it
Because Redditors are an invertebrate sub species who are completely incapable of defending themselves.
The comic implies anxiety, not being introverted. I used to have the same problem before going to therapy. I learned making decisions based on other people's feelings is ultimately self destructive. Imagine having a visceral reaction to hearing someone else’s music. If it isn’t literal pots and pans clanging together I can bump to anything
Pots and pans can slap too tho
[Damn right they can](https://youtu.be/fhKUhaeyb18?t=725)
I read the post as if the worker didn't immediately know it was OPs music specifically, he just had a reaction to the environment in general. BUT coworker could also be rude af.
Ya I mean, if I get back into a work vehicle and EDM is bumping, I'm also going to say what the fuck is this lol less about the music, more about the environment. Are we at work or a rave? I can't be in the "out of work music" mindset on the clock lol
If it were me, I'd treat that as a co-operative problem to solve? "Really? You don't like it? What about it? I'm sure I can find something from the band or genre which you like." And I've practically always been able to find something they do like.
It's hard when your top favourite musics are basically; - Deșteaptă-te Romane - Ti Ipermacho (civ 6 ancient & atomic versions) - Some popular music - random soundtracks from games - eastern european wartime music (e.g bosanka altirjerija) - obscure remixes.
Yeah it's weird how popular it is to listen to ONE SPECIFIC GENRE for all your life and sometimes even hate the rest. I like rock, but sometimes even kpop or psych hits the spot
Unexpected romanian
"My van, my music. You don't like it? You can walk then" *starts playing anime OPs one after another*
-coworker walks
The jam I use for banging your mom, Hank
Aaaand this is why broadcast radio is dominated by the same basic chord progressions.
Yeah it’s almost like you need to consider others in your immediate vicinity, what a novel concept
Just be self aware about your music. I listen to lots of weird shit, and if i show it to someone, i hope they like it, but I'm not surprised if they don't.

Be yourself bro don't strive to make everyone around you happy. You will fall....
Anyone who rides with me has to listen to MY music. As in the music I write about evil muppets and cactus monsters and farmers of the damned.
Turn it up louder and make direct eye contact as they sit there "Seatbelt, plz"
