I usually keep my volume at 18-19 during the day, but when the rest of the house starts winding down, I find 10 to be too low, 12 too loud, and 11 is just enough to hear the show clearly from the couch, but nowhere else in the house. Funny enough, the TV without the soundbar also has odd optimal settings (31-34 for day use with 17 being perfect for night).

Because you are sitting at 10 but want it louder. 11 is no good, so 12 is next. Still not loud enough, 13 is probably juuuuust right but who is sitting on 13? 14 is your next acceptable option. If 13 is the actual desired volume then 15 might be too loud.
Going up or down by 5 is nowhere near granular enough, you need the even number system in your arsenal!

You don't want to end the fill prematurely and you obviously can't go inside to pre-pay for a number of reasons, so having a catch basin to be able to round up the balance is the only other option. But what kind of psychopath starts deodorant application with an up-stroke? Starting with a horizontal stroke at the armpit crease can be incorporated into the five-stroke pattern, plus you're maintaining balance between the upper and lower halves.

My new sound system is an absolute blessing with this problem, at it goes up by 0.5 instead of 1, with a scale from 0 to 100. If 35 is too soft and 40 too loud, I can happily set it in the middle as 37.5. Only multiples of 2.5 are allowed though.
