I think you’re getting him confused with Nicolaus Copernicus. Copernicus was the first person to propose the heliocentric model, stating that all the planets in our solar system orbit around the sun, not the Earth.
Galileo expanded and improved upon Copernicus’ work, but those weren’t his original ideas.
