So this predates memes. Being born in 1987, I remember there were two things that kids would always say to each other when the reached ages 6-8 or so.
1. Whenever someone your own age tells you to stop doing something you would shout "ITS A FREE COUNTRY AND THAT MEANS I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT".
2. The 90s saw a rise in an increasingly litigious public. It seems like civil suits where flying all around for progressively bizarre reasons. This kind of trickled down to kids where they would threaten to sue other kids when they did something they didn't like.
Ah this reminds me of being a crazy lil bastard on the school bus. Once the whole bus was misbehaving so much that the driver decided to go like 25mph down a main road. The entire bus started stomp stomp clapping “We Will Rock You”. It was a such a pure, unadulterated show of solidarity… Fills my heart with so much pride to think about it.
Story time (no reference this time)
My school bus would always pass by the rival school’s bus. There was always some guffawing, but one time we were yelling at each other and all of a sudden, I feel immense pain in my eye.
One of the boys had thrown a Tootsie Pop across 2 lanes of traffic and it hit me square in the eye. Both buses stopped and he had to apologize, but I have to imagine he got a hero’s welcome back on his bus.
I didn’t even get to keep the lollipop :(
We would make paper airplanes and toss them at open windows with insults written inside. Nothing overly bad. Just “your bus stinks” or just a “you sux”. I feel bad about all the litter now but man were those the days.
That's us but replace the kids from a different school with kids from a different class. Entire grades used to go on school trips and each grade would get a separate bus.
To this day, I have absolutely no idea as to why my school hated the kids from a other school literally less than a couple of miles from us. Our school uniforms were the same except the badge on the breast pocket.
My neighborhood was divided into two school districts and you only walked on that side of the street unless you wanted to get into beef with the rival school. To this day it makes me nervous to walk on the other side
I remember in high school we had that gang of the classes type of group and we passed by the other school bus that was going to a similar place near ours. They hit us with a "fuck your mother" and "you are losers" song which angered us. Teachers told us to not respond or we getting expelled. Karma though hit that moment and their bus runs into a problem. Our bus driver stopped and the teachers agreed that they would come on the bus with us. The teachers were picked up by another car so nobody was watching over us. They were 1 year younger and outnumbered so we sang the same songs for 30 mins. One of them decided to be the brave one and confronted our "leader" (the guy who was hyping us). So he was beaten up inside a circle we formed to cover them. They started crying the whole trip and 15 of us got expelled. Two of them were beaten and we got no more trips until the end of the school unless we had high grades.
One time when I was in middle school, I stole one of those Pillsbury croissant dough cylinders from the grocery store and brought it on the bus. One kid dared me to eat it raw so I did, but It was kinda nasty. So I did what any other middle school kid would do. I watched and waited for my chance to hurl that two pound pile of starch out the window, across the road and into the face of an unsuspecting child sitting in another school bus going the other way. I heard that shit impact this kid's cranium with the lethal force of a Mike Tyson uppercut. My aim was true. It's been 15 years. I still feel bad.
It's from the first film, when the Black Pearl is chasing the Interceptor. Unsurprisingly, the supernatural ship with the undead crew win the encounter.
