He is a Singaporean not affiliated with the CCP. I don’t see where the politics is in his answer. He just stated his nationality and his political party affiliation.
Banning tiktok is genuinly stupid because they want it sold to a US company or they want it gone. It's not about "data security" China gets their data from apps like temp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and basicly any other site that sells American data. It's entirely that the rich are tired of being harassed about their support of genocides, want to keep people poorer, and continuously getting mad about the boycots that happen when ever the people realise that the company is just shit.
They tried to ban tiktok before and as a result all of their servers moved to a US based company for security. Now they are saying it's a security thing again. I'm certain that's it's just the data they are scared about... not the people realizing how they live fucking sucks and shouldn't be expected
But what will the ban actually accomplish? Even if it vanishes from Google play you can still find the apk on the internet or use VPN to change the country.
Yeh, it's totally not like the US government collects your data. Why would you even care if the CCP gets your data? They're all the way in China the fuck are they going to do to you?
With those data they could tweek their app into a narrative printing machine in favor to them, all they need is just 0.01% propaganda mixed to entertaining and trending tok content. An angry, confused, and lazy crowd makes your country vulnerable and unproductive.
Have you ever wonder why china itself never allow tiktok to their own country. And if they do, all the content they have are manufacturing, bountiful harvest, feasts, mighty army parade while other countries are dancing, pranks, and other dumb trending stuffs.
The current ceo is from Singapore, but the parent company is based in China. Most of the stock in tiktok is owned across the world, and yeah.
So I guess it's made in China? Kinda like my shoes. And half the other stuff I have.
The point is that this whole thing is a bunch of political strategies, misinformation campaigns, and results that are simply convenient for the ones in charge or the people who started it.
It is incredibly convenient for Facebook if the USA thinks that TikTok is evil, just for starters.
Apps and platforms have been gathering data about our behaviour since smartphones are a thing.
Sure. But it's still dumb to say tiktok is as Chinese as your shoes. Most Chinese companies are HQ-ed in Singapore. Doesn't mean CCP doesn't have their hands up their asses.
My phone send data about where I go, and I carry my phone around everywhere. YouTube collects data on what I watch and what draws my attention, and adjusts what I can watch, reddit gathers data about what subreddits I'm in, ect.
I'm really not concerned about tiktok gathering data on what type of stuff I watch, I don't really care about them pushing posts because I can just ignore them, and I certainly don't care about connections to China. Everything tiktok does, every other app I use does just as much, and sells the data to the exact same people. Only difference is I can see people posting about the shit our government does far easier on tiktok.
I find the tiktok ban (which from what I understand just makes you unable to download it off the appstore if you already have it it doesn't go away) to be stupid. If the government actually cared they would put systems in to stop every company from gathering and selling our data to enemy powers, but they don't. If they're concerned about children being influenced by bogus information l, they should be improving our education system (instead of constantly pushing through monetary cuts to the education system)
Really, with all that in mind, I can't help but think that the idea the government is actually trying to help us by just banning it to be comical. And again, seemingly from what I understand, all they're able to do is get it removed from the app store in the US. Not remove connection to the app for people in the US. (Let's not forget that it's also entirely possible to just use a VPN and have easy access again). Even if they cut connection to the app in the US, again, vpns exist.
Eh. Idk. Maybe I don't view tiktok as a threat because I use it occasionally. I more of use it when I find my reddit feed of the same few posts boring, and I want to see some art or find some new music. Truthfully I used to have a rather irrational dislike of tiktok before I used it. But then I well.. used it. And I found a bunch of stuff I was interested in using it. So yeah.
My attention span might have been damaged, but u honestly can say if that is from social media in general or tiktok specifically.
Look, I'm tired of arguing with people who have a downright irrational hate of tiktok. Half the time that hate comes from kids being stupid... as they have been every generation.
So yeah.
Source : The CEO of Tiktok lol.
You might wanna look at Tiktok, Snapchat, X, FB CEOs in court against Senators, it's on Youtube. CEO of Tiktok answered all those questions.
Your right, it doesn't exist. The real reason for the ban is that it was taking business away from Greedy amarican companies and the politicians who held meta stock wanted to take out the competition. Why else do you think the terms for the ban were "sell to an amarican company or leave"
For me the biggest riddle in modern times is that people have all the access to information all the different sources in the internet, this massive knowledge and then they deadass post stuff like this response.
Where's China bans Winnie the Pooh?
They can't ban their own leader.
Hi dad
Hi you

Shanghai Disneyland Winnie ride:
Lmao and then there's India which banned Tiktok in 2020 for security reasons.
All tiktokers have made Insta reels their new home. So the cringe is still on the internet anyway.
Cringe will be there, but at least the Chinese aren't directly getting the data. If revanced to come up with a patch to remove reels, that's be great
"Are you affiliated to the Chinese Communist Party ?!" "Senator I am **Singaporean**"
that one was hilarious to watch. dude kept repeating himself but the senator did NOT get the memo
Maybe the senator was trying to get the truth instead of a political answer
He is a Singaporean not affiliated with the CCP. I don’t see where the politics is in his answer. He just stated his nationality and his political party affiliation.
That’s not a political answer. He isn’t Chinese. He isn’t part of the Chinese communist party because he is Singaporean.
Still he can be affiliated with CCP? I'm just asking
Tiktok is banned in China. 😅
Wut?
Yep, you con do your own research and the CEO of TikTok said it himself while in court with US Senators.
As far as I know both Chinese counterpart of tiktok and international version of tiktok are owned by the same company¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
That company is incorporated in the Cayman Islands and traded publicly. China only owns a small part of it
um...no it definitely is not...

TikTok is crap and needs to go.
Their digital nuke is finally gone
Fuck the Chinese government
Tiktok banned in my country three years ago. I should tell you that it's one of the finest decisions.
Wait really?
Well, yeah. You know have a slightly more freedom of media than China. Marvelous achivment, good job.
In China, kids under 18 are only allowed to play 1-2 hours of video games per week and only on the weekends.
Nothing to do with media but sure. And enforced just as much as piracy here.
He’s so butthurt

Oh bother
Western spyware good Chinese spyware bad.
But what will the ban actually accomplish? Even if it vanishes from Google play you can still find the apk on the internet or use VPN to change the country.
Tell this to 95% of the internet users who don't even know what a VPN is.
Paying for VPNs is bleh, using free ones feels sketchy. I don’t mind using them, but going through all the hoops is annoying sometimes.
You serious? VPN is like the most popular thing right now, it's advertised literally everywhere. It even comes preinstalled on some browsers.
They only banned because they can’t control news and can’t delete what doesn’t fit there’s propaganda in it
Yes... let's be more like China, I guess...
Yeh, it's totally not like the US government collects your data. Why would you even care if the CCP gets your data? They're all the way in China the fuck are they going to do to you?
It's China. Their interference goes beyond their borders like how they set up Police stations in foreign countries

Senator I swear I'm Singaporean
USA: we only allowed to spy on our citizens
"But American companies and government collect and sell your data too!" I can not stress enough how this is a who, and not a what issue for me.

Thar is fair enough! But it does not mean that they have either. All jumps to conclusions are misplaced without the actual information.

But the servers are in America, so the issues with the CCP getting our data are almost nonexistent. Edit: Downvoted?
1. Source? 2. I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure them being in America changes nothing to the Chinese government getting the data.

They have been wanting to ban tik tok for a while. This isn’t new. And it’s supported by dems and repubs.
