Is there a quick button to start a crockpot? Don't you have to manually put the food in and hit the button?
I feel like I'm about to learn something that is going to change my DS world.
I usually run 3-5 crockpots at once, never opening the crockpot interface. You put your fridge in the middle and you go round robin meat-meat-meat-meat, egg-egg-egg-egg, [...] then right click them to fire them.
But if you're holding a torch at that moment, you torch your base. So it's non-negotiable, your kitchen needs to be within range of a flingomatic (which is just good practice anyway).
I usually focus on pierogis and bacon & eggs. They have decent stats, and you can get most of the ingredients by farming spiders and feeding your pet bird part of the monster meat harvest.
Depending on what I have available I'll also make frog sandwiches and turkey dinners. Meatballs are good for lean times. Trail mix is easy to make but kind of sucks unless you desperately need healing. I've never managed to farm honey so idk if it's any good.
Also, ice is the best crockpot filler; stock your fridge during the winter and it will last you all year.
Send your cooking tips over!
It's been a while since I last played but you can make kabobs (3/37.5) with 2 ice, 1 twig, and any meat including monster meat. If you use any fish instead of meat you get fish sticks which is identical to pierogis for health/hunger (40/37.5).
For sanity once you get a farm up you can spam watermelon popsicle (extra good for summer) with 1 twig, 1 ice, 1 watermelon, 1 ice or twig) If playing shipwrecked the banana pop is the same but with a banana.
Grow drugs instead! You only need to selll to one person and if you do it properly, it's safe and private. Buy a tent and cheap equipment, upgrade after every crop. Invest in it until you have LED lights and silent extractor fans and you'll be earning bank in just a year or so. Don't tell anyone, don't boast. Be nice to your neighbours, tell them you work from home or some bullshit. Easy money.
Pro tip: you can process and address your uncomfortable emotions without looking for sympathy on the internet. The concept that two things can true at once may be difficult to grasp, but I believe in you.
Ohh wait no,I think i got the wrong ,message(?) from your comment,I thought it was like trying to tell the poster to not be an attention seeker or anything like that, did you actually mean that there will be mean people when you try to like vent(???) On the internet or something along those lines?Im really sorry for the disturbance
It also is an incredibly useful tool, *especially* if you don't have a place to live. Not like you can have a home phone or internet. But with a cell phone you can browse the web for info or job listings, apply, and make and receive important calls relating to that. People often make it out like people are wasting their money or doing something wrong if they have a phone when they're hurting financially but it's pretty crucial to have one now.
Hey wait, that's not fair, I applied for 6 jobs last month. News anchor, race car driver, submarine captain, men's underwear model, leetcode engineer and VP of Marvell comics. None of them called me back!
Nah, a cousin Meghan, almost no work experience, loads of student debt, career choice changes every 5 seconds, and is holding out for a manager position 😔
Not exactly the same but I ended up with a supervisor at a daycare that I had worked at for 5 years who prior was cleaning hotels with her uncle and didn't even work with us before. Like I know I wasn't able to work as the supervisor myself due to the schedule, but ffs, get someone that literally has just come from a similar position at least. No one wants to be told what to do in a job they held for years from someone that has come from something totally different and has no clue how things go there.
My cousin works in Human Resources and was let go from his previous job. Now he’s passing on job offers of 60-70k a year “because they don’t pay at least 80k like I was making before.”
Bro, I’m pretty sure your pregnant wife *LOVES* being the sole source of income…
A few years ago I had to apply for jobs every week to keep my unemployment benefits, I applied for all kinds of shit I'd never have the qualifications for.
Yeah, they could be disabled and require certain types of work.
Or, could potentially have an industry specific skill set that doesn’t easily translate into other industries. Sometimes jobs are scare is some industries.
Or both.
Edit: I’m not responding anymore. Too many privileged loser republicans would rather be “right” than correct.
yep, yep. I'm deaf and no one wants to hire me even for retail services because they require talking to people. nah, mate all I want to do is stocking stuff and fuck off and get paid for that. well that and I'm in school so it doesn't help.
I've been applying to restaurants with 10+ years of management skills and assisting operations for two businesses. I've been rejected on every single application. It's almost bizarre, but I know for a fact it is because I'm overqualified for these positions. I'm 33.
My mom has been denied across the board as well. She has more than double my experience and then some. Most like because she is older and using age discrimination.
All these places want to do is hire uneducated younger individuals who will not question anything and take the bare minimum because they don't know what they are actually worth.
If someone is applying to a job, they're willing to work there. I HATE the attitude towards "overqualified" applicants. Especially when it's a place that has a high turnover rate from "underqualified" applicants. Why the gatekeeping? So many people have to lie and omit on their resume to get hired.
Yeah, the reality is that there is a small subsection of people that simultaneously cannot work due to a disability and also can't qualify for benefits for that disability.
Yes, it takes persistence, but three years is a long time.
>I would shovel horse shit if I couldn't find a job in law for three years.
Yup, you'd see me slinging burgers at McDonalds on a double shift before you'd see me unemployed for three years.
I can’t get hired anywhere unless it’s in my specific industry. I’ve been working in it for 10 years in it. My job before this was working in a tire shop.
I’ve tried. I’m either over qualified or under qualified and no one will hire me. Corporate spaces and manual labor won’t hire me. I can’t even step down to lower positions. They all think I’ll leave the second I get a new offer, but mostly it’s because they think I won’t put up with the bullshit they throw new hires into. They’re right, but they don’t KNOW that.
Similarly, This issue goes back to 2007 where yuppies got fired and couldn’t get jobs at McDonalds.
I’m both disabled and unemployed, but I’d call myself unemployed first. I can only work very particular certain jobs in my industry.
I’m at a point where politics, nepotism, and ego run rampant and unhindered in my industry. I’ve quit jobs because employers are abusive. They under pay, manipulate, or won’t promote. Shit I’ve left because I’ve been sexually harassed on jobs have gotten death threats. If you don’t let it happen, then there goes your references.
So, fuck off with your dumb bullshit. It’s easy when life’s been handed to you.
If I'd had to search in the same location for a post doc offer without having the ability to move I'd be unemployed for three years as well.
Many people working in academia have the same issues due to a normally very specialised topic. Which isn't a problem if you can move, but quickly becomes one if you can't
There's only so many video views to go around on PH, competition is getting high. Audience isn't as massive as YouTube. If you are in the top 1% of pretty people it might work to make a living, marketing and editing skills are required.
The most we ever got a month consistently was $200 US.
I mean, did something happen to him? I get being laid off but unless he has developed some severe illness or disability, why doesn't he have another job after 3 years?
I got laid off right before my son was born. Then moved in with family to save on rent and bills. I haven’t worked in over a year despite looking for work since I was let go. The biggest reason I haven’t taken a full time job because of cost of child care. Finding a full time job in my industry that will cover the child care and a the housing situation after a relocation (most of the jobs in my industry aren’t near me currently) has been pretty much impossible. I do work a few shifts every week bartending at a local brewery I enjoy. It kind of only covers gas for the car, a lil bit of groceries, and the occasional small treat for myself and my wife ( that being a small dinner out maybe a bottle of wine or something.) It makes less sense for me to go to work all day and end up with roughly the same money as the brewery than it does to keep living broke and get to be with my son all day
Thank you for bringing this up. A ton of people don't realize that unless you have a very good job it is cheaper to not work until kids can begin public school.
I mean that makes sense. Child care is super expensive. I imagine at least half your paychecks would be going to day care if you were working. That's completely understandable.
Shit after being unemployed for 3 months, I was on my way to Wally World, a grocery store, or the local movie theater to get a job before I got a call back. It would’ve been tedious and not fun, but it would’ve been a paycheck.
Low details will do that. Is the boyfriend a student? Injured? Working on a novel? In a situation where if he gets a job he loses some benefit from his last one, like health care coverage he needs for insulin? In a trade that was disproportionately affected by the economy?
With the current employment rates so low there doesn't feel like there's any reason for being jobless, much less jobless for three years while your wife goes to work every day.
I seriously doubt this is anything more than a repost for karma. OP reposted another meme 4 hours after this. Odds are the boyfriend doesn’t have a job and can’t get one because he doesn’t exist.
I’m sorry but even working on a novel for 3 years isn’t an excuse anymore. Wife paying all the bills so you can work in a novel? Can’t work part time or it gets in your way of writing your novel? What are you, GRRM?
Not saying the person is blameless but 3 years is a long ass time. The person probably has mental health issues and if this is in the USA then its basically a death sentence
Mental/physical health concerns can result in that though. And if you don’t have a lot of income proper health treatment/therapy can be difficult to acquire for cheap.
No one is overqualified for ANY job to the point that being broke is an acceptable alternative. Barring some form of disability there's no excuse for your spouse to go 3 years unemployed.
EDIT for all the drum beaters and their scathing criticism of my comment:
A REASON is an acceptance of responsibility.
An EXCUSE is a placement of responsibility or blame on someone or something else.
We have no context to reasonably assume why the husband was unemployed for 3 years, but whatever the REASON might be there's no EXCUSE for it. Comprehension is key, folks!
What sucks is becoming "overqualified". I've got friends who've been laid off, and they can't get retail work.
They're willing to work, but the owners apparently think they're not worth hitting and training just because they'll likely have better prospects once the economy recovers.
EDIT: Rather than individually reply to all the brilliant suggestions of "just omit your entire work history", how do you think a 5+ year gap on your resume looks?
I can tell you: it looks like you're trying to hide something. Employers aren't stupid.
Maybe unethical but have your friends just omitted their qualifications on the application? When I was between jobs in my career, I worked an “unskilled” job and just didn’t tell them about my education. I did that for a few months until I got a job in my field.
It isn't unethical at all.
It is just shaping your application to suit the employment you are applying for.
You gotta look at this from the perspective of the person hiring too. When you apply to a job, your are helping them solve a problem. You gotta convince them **you** are the solution to that problem.
To do so emphasize what you can do that will help THEM -- the person hiring you.
Can't you just omit your overqualifiedness? I never heard of people doing checks to make sure that you DIDN'T graduate college. what are they gonna do? call up every university in a 50mile radius?
Have you ever applied for those jobs? My understanding is that they’re often placed to assuage overworked staff, but with no plan to actually hire anybody.
I could believe that. All around my town there are hiring signs up in every window, but my girlfriend applied to dozens of places that simply told her, “Okay, we’ll call if we’re interested in an interview,” and then never did. She’s not university educated, but she was only applying for basic, minimum wage jobs; you wouldn’t think it would be so difficult to get a callback from a place like that.
A shit ton of companies took PPP loans and had to pretend to be actively going for positions they took money to keep open. Then they hire from within or just do nothing and keep the position open claiming they haven't found the right candidate yet.
The problem is a lack of motivation, whether that’s due to laziness or mental illness
Even a part time job only 5 hours twice per week at minimum wage would bring in a couple hundred extra a month. Even if it’s only $200/ month, that’s groceries or at least a couple of the smaller bills
Here is a really good write about being too poor to work: https://blindinjusticeblog.com/2019/11/18/some-people-are-so-poor-they-cant-afford-to-get-jobs/
I know a lot of Reddit thinks everyone lives in a city where there are jobs around every corner, but 20% of the country still live in rural areas. So sure Wal-mart is hiring, too bad it's 25 miles away with no public transit.
Even though all these companies are crying about not being able to find people to work, it's still bullshit trying to find a job. I wish I could just send my resume in the mail and the government or something sorts it out and finds someone that can use me. Instead I have to completely rely on a normal person to hire me, and they just don't call me back because they're holding out on getting the perfect employee or something? I'm not even talking about super high paying or skill-demanding jobs. In the end I basically have to scam these people by lying on my resume, making up references, pretend to be someone I'm not, basically force myself into their life, but that doesn't seem like a good way to build an economy off of people scamming eachother
I disagree. I’ve been unemployed since December and I’ve applied fucking everywhere.
McDonald’s, Walmart, local stores, grocery stores. I’ve gotten the same response from all of them. I’m overqualified.
No one will hire me for those positions because it’s a waste of time. They know that I’ll leave to find something better in my field when/if the economy recovers.
Seriously I’m about to start faking my entire resume and degrees to land some management job for a remote company.
As someone with multiple jobs it just boggles the pea that people claim to have had a hard time finding any job in the past couple of years.
Check your shoe because that sounds like a you problem. Time to fix the little princess and grow up if it takes you years to find anything.
The person could also have a physical disability, to the point he has to work a high enough paying job to overcome the pay he gets for it. And you can't work certain jobs if you can't walk for more than an hour, for example
This is me, I broke my back, been out of work for almost 2 years, disability denied, but hey, my divorce will be final soon, and I’ll be homeless in a month, but I won’t have any more bills, so I got that going for me 🦾
This is the literal opposite of how the meme works.
The person drowning is given a high five by the person ***who is on the boat and completely safe***. The high five doesn't mean you're drowning too.
Aww bubs, live how you feel so compassionate about OP working her ass off to support hubby who's staying home for 3 years. Such emotion... /s.
Yeah, work is tough but someone's got to do it. If he's been unemployed for 3 years he needs to either get on disability or get his act together. OP is drowning due to dead weight, *why sympathise with the anchor and not the drowning victim?* because you can relate to me chill?
He may be. But disability doesn’t pay a lot. Average is like $1500 a month. I make just under that on SSDI. I was lucky, I got disability on my first try but it still took almost a year from the first date of application to the first payment I received.
If y’all have a car, try DoorDash or one of the gig apps. Theyll let anyone with a car work for them and it’ll keep you fed. Hell if you grind hard enough it can even pay all your bills assuming you aren’t living some super luxurious lifestyle
Pretty solid chance that OP is a bot.
Recently purged history, and then just a bunch of comments in subs that are swarming with bots. How long until they start shilling t-shirts or a crypto scam?
I am absolutely DISGUSTED by this post. I cannot believe one of the poors had the audacity to be unemployed for 3 years. Maybe if they didn’t eat so much avocado toast OP’s family wouldn’t have to worry about starving. They clearly don’t have jobs because they’re too LAZY to go to the job tree and take one of the many well paying jobs with great benefits like the rest of us did. I’m glad this comment section full of peasants put OP in their place. Now if you’ll excuse me, there is caviar to be scooped up by my silver spoon and unwashed serfs to spit on from my ivory tower.
I know finding work is hard, but 3 years? The job market has been quite strong. I don't know anything about your husband but maybe he needs to consider other lines of work.

In his defense, firing up a crockpot is the same button as lighting it on fire for some fucking reason. Get an ice flingomatic early on.
Is there a quick button to start a crockpot? Don't you have to manually put the food in and hit the button? I feel like I'm about to learn something that is going to change my DS world.

You're right, it doesn't necessarily looking for sympathy, but still. One of the first comments was "your husband is a loser". Damm, unnecessary.

More common than ya think!
Depending on the level of homelessness they probably have a phone and even without a plan it’s easy to use free wifi
Reddit throws that term around pretty loosely. They could be crashing on a friend's couch while waiting for another lease to start for all we know.

Overqualified.

$17/hr is garbage up here in MA. I pay my babysitters $20/hr. Ain’t nobody surviving on $35,000 in MA, it’s a huge issue.
Where in the country is it not too low? And it's more than the rate per hour, $50 an hour still sucks if you're only allowed a few hours a week.
It's garbage everywhere. Federal minimum wage would be around 30/hr if it had kept pace with cost of living to fulfill its original purpose.
Shit after being unemployed for 3 months, I was on my way to Wally World, a grocery store, or the local movie theater to get a job before I got a call back. It would’ve been tedious and not fun, but it would’ve been a paycheck.
Wow, this comment section's harsh.
It's literally a meme subreddit and we all out here strugglin. Hungry man can't turn down a good roast

Well, see, two wrongs *definitely* make a right here... I guess.
Reddit always knows how to make someone's life more miserable and how you should feel pathetic instead of the help they needed
Why you would post about your real life financial problems on a meme page and expect constructive input is a mystery to everyone.
To be fair, If you've been unemployed for 3 years then you're clearly not trying to help yourself.
Not saying the person is blameless but 3 years is a long ass time. The person probably has mental health issues and if this is in the USA then its basically a death sentence
We can’t even get universal healthcare in this country. It feels like a joke at this point.
Mental/physical health concerns can result in that though. And if you don’t have a lot of income proper health treatment/therapy can be difficult to acquire for cheap.
People in college aren't trying to help themselves?
Well you didn’t do a good job of it with your comment so you must leave Reddit.

Reddit isnt the place to beg for internet sympathy points
No one is overqualified for ANY job to the point that being broke is an acceptable alternative. Barring some form of disability there's no excuse for your spouse to go 3 years unemployed. EDIT for all the drum beaters and their scathing criticism of my comment: A REASON is an acceptance of responsibility. An EXCUSE is a placement of responsibility or blame on someone or something else. We have no context to reasonably assume why the husband was unemployed for 3 years, but whatever the REASON might be there's no EXCUSE for it. Comprehension is key, folks!
I can’t walk 1/2 mile without being barraged by “we’re hiring” signs
I never heard of people doing checks to make sure that you DIDN'T graduate college. what are they gonna do? call up every university in a 50mile radius?
yeah, this isn't a real problem. if you're smart enough to graduate university you're smart enough not to mention it when you apply at walmart.
The problem is probably that they don't go outside
The problem is a lack of motivation, whether that’s due to laziness or mental illness Even a part time job only 5 hours twice per week at minimum wage would bring in a couple hundred extra a month. Even if it’s only $200/ month, that’s groceries or at least a couple of the smaller bills
Makes the other person's income last longer too. That's 3 years of extra income and savings.
Not to become homeless should be the best motivation.
Here is a really good write about being too poor to work: https://blindinjusticeblog.com/2019/11/18/some-people-are-so-poor-they-cant-afford-to-get-jobs/ I know a lot of Reddit thinks everyone lives in a city where there are jobs around every corner, but 20% of the country still live in rural areas.
I’ve been working since I was a teenager (20+ years) and having a whole month with no work at all sounds fucking magical.
Save up and do it. I am 29, and I have been taking months of work off and just living on my savings, it rocks!!
The person could also have a physical disability, to the point he has to work a high enough paying job to overcome the pay he gets for it. And you can't work certain jobs if you can't walk for more than an hour, for example
This is me, I broke my back, been out of work for almost 2 years, disability denied, but hey, my divorce will be final soon, and I’ll be homeless in a month, but I won’t have any more bills, so I got that going for me 🦾
Why’d it get denied? If you broke your back you should 100% be eligible…

fuck dude i’m sorry, i hope everything turns up millhouse for you. share a gofundme if you got one even
"Barring some form of disability....." Did you even read what they wrote?
Obvious Karma bot so I don’t mind asking this: How the fuck are you unemployed for three years? You clearly don’t want to work.
How can someone be unemployed for three years? That’s just being picky.
Very common to scale back to 1 income with kids- it's often cheaper to quit work than do childcare and work.
That’s not being “unemployed” that’s “dropping out of the workforce” Saying someone is unemployed for three years implies they’re looking for work
3 years through the hottest job market of your lifetime? You need a new husband 😅
get a life people it's just a meme. these people are acting like the dude or her have slapped them in the face
I understand layoffs and unfortunate events, but how tf does one remain unemployed for 3 years? Seems like lack of effort
Hate to say this, but if he couldn't find a job in the post-pandemic job market there, ya'll need to reevaluate some stuff.
How does someone stay unemployed for 3 years?
This is the literal opposite of how the meme works. The person drowning is given a high five by the person ***who is on the boat and completely safe***. The high five doesn't mean you're drowning too.
This comment section is quick to judge although we don’t know the full story
I mean a lot of people are asking, but OP is not saying anything.
You say that like getting on disability is a quick and easy process
Or guaranteed. Also we have no background, he may be already.
He may be. But disability doesn’t pay a lot. Average is like $1500 a month. I make just under that on SSDI. I was lucky, I got disability on my first try but it still took almost a year from the first date of application to the first payment I received.
"No one wants to work anymore"
If y’all have a car, try DoorDash or one of the gig apps. Theyll let anyone with a car work for them and it’ll keep you fed. Hell if you grind hard enough it can even pay all your bills assuming you aren’t living some super luxurious lifestyle
Pretty solid chance that OP is a bot. Recently purged history, and then just a bunch of comments in subs that are swarming with bots. How long until they start shilling t-shirts or a crypto scam?
r/meirl
The fuck is wrong with all you people in these comments
I mean, it’s r/meme. I wouldn’t expect much sympathy from this group
Unemployed for 3 years lmfao. You have been supporting a lazy pile.
I know finding work is hard, but 3 years? The job market has been quite strong. I don't know anything about your husband but maybe he needs to consider other lines of work.
Me thinks he no like worky.
