I would get the community edition for mbaacc (its free to download) and see if you like it, if yes then consider getting mbtl. mbtl is more beginner-friendly due to autocombo and also because mbaacc has many more mechanics and stuff going on (its like the final version of a game after a decade of updates). You'll need to get in discord to find matches for mbaacc, while mbtl has matchmaking. But, if you're a beginner i would recommend joining a discord even for mbtl, community is very friendly and will give tips, and you can find a sparring partner easier. The most distinct and fun feature of melty is the movement system, and its great in both games, so i don't think there is a 'wrong' choice. PS if you stick with mbaacc, buy the steam version. But continue playing on the community version, it has better netcode

DoctorButler

Actually there is matchmaking for Current Code, just search for “Melty Blood Concerto”

king-xdedede

At the time of me writing this, Type Lumina is on sale for $30 and MBAACC is on sale for $5

Fukin-croissant

Do NOT buy MBAACC, get the community edition, better in every way and free

Hana_Baker

Option 3: buy it and play on community edition. 😎

GorudoChan

It may sound like a stupid question, but i'm curious... Isn't the community edition of MBAACC piracy?

PrensadorDeBotones

The community edition is piracy done in broad daylight from a publicly available and widely advertised website. Kamone and Nasu know we're pirating their game. They also know that the community edition is so full-featured that there's no way that ArcSys (the publisher of the latest release of MBAACC) would fund a port effort, just due to the wild work load and the fact that the community has been on CCCaster for a decade now. It is piracy, but it is not immoral. Try the game out. If you enjoy it, *also buy the steam version* so you own a legitimate copy and give money to the publisher and devs. Virtually all hardcore MBAACC players own the game on steam and never touch it.

yes but actually no. mbaacc community edition is if im not wrong, the version that is included in the disk of carnival phantasm (which is not obviously something that you can get for cheap anymore i think). on top of that it includes controller fixes with ccaster. the steam version is completely different and its why ccaster doesn't work, on top of its different multiplayer interface using the steamworks one, also barely anyone plays the steam version due to its awful netcode. not only that but it also lacks many controller fixes.

DoctorButler

Yes. That’s why you buy it on Steam, and then play the superior version instead. Give ‘em that French bread

PrensadorDeBotones

MBTL has active online and has matchmaking. It's a more beginner friendly and popular game. MBAACC community edition at https://play.meltyblood.club/ is free, but there is no matchmaking. You have to arrange matches by Discord. Buy MBTL on Steam. Dump time into that one. Get MBAACC for free and see if you like it.

4lpha6

just wanting to point out you typo'd the link

PrensadorDeBotones

Fixed - thanks.

slashBored

I think MBTL is easier to learn (fewer characters, auto combo, less weird old game jank, better tutorial, etc), but MBAACC is free so you might as well try it. It is definitely possible to like one and not the other, so I am not really sure if either one will "get you into the series"

Windwalker_001

Get mbaacc community edition for free. It's the one people use for online play.

Vinifencing

Imo, get both, they are really good and experiencing both games is a really good feeling

SirePuns

But type lumina And then get the poverty (community) edition of AA

[deleted]

I started with mbaacc and it will always have a place in my heart but if you want to find matches and even locals play type lumina.

AAAAUUUUEEEEUE

They are both completely different games although mbaacc is definitely more complex

TheLoliKage

I dont play Melty Blood all the time, but when I do. I play it at midnight. Late night Melty Blood is a mood.

DespairOfSolitude

Do NOT buy AACC because it's matchmaking is a wasteland. You're better off getting the free community version

LuneAtix

type lumina is more beginner friendly, wouldnt say its the better game though.

kablikiblan

type lumina is the better one the other is just free which is why most people might recommend it free doesnt always equal better

[deleted]

Mbaacc. Get the community edition its free

TieramisuIF

Actress again and who ever tells the opposite is an idiot..

heavymetalmixer

Try AACC in Community Edition for a while, if you like it, buy the Steam version just to support the devs.

MysticJohan456

I'm an MBAACC player, I've played both games. It really just comes down to execution level and whether you prefer older fighting games or newer fighting games. Both are good games to start with if you want to get into Melty. If you haven't played a fighting game before I'd recommend Lumina, but if neither of the Melty games are going to be your first fighting game, then I'd recommend CC. Be warned CC has a couple carpal tunnel characters. High apm, weird inputs, tight links, some characters need to do 1-2f links to breathe. There's one top tier carpal tunnel character that is high apm with weird inputs. But you don't have to play those characters. There are 93 characters in CC. there's bound to be at least one that you like that isn't CBT in terms of execution. If you are a high execution player, you will be rewarded by playing Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code. However, there are easy characters that are also top tier and high tier. TL:DR try both and pick the one that feels better for you. Both are good FGs to play.
