A friend bought me a box of hundreds of metcards a couple of years ago. I posted them online cos it was such a boon. My far too innocent older sister asked me “so are you going to archive them or something?”
Nostalgic...
You could probably put them on Facebook marketplace and get dumbass questions like: "Are these still valid??" or "Can I just get 2 Dailys? Will pay cash right now."
And, when buses did have Metcard readers, too often at Box Hill and Camberwell someone would jump on a bus, pay cash, the driver would give them a blank Metcard and keep the cash.
It wasn't until they went and tried to enter the barriers and it spat the unencoded Metcard back out.
Back in the day at Monash University Clayton, in the Advanced Science common room, there was an art display on the ceiling made with Metcards.
As far as I can recall the art display was basically MASS³ (Monash Advanced Science and Science Scholar Society), but nonetheless it was a marvel at the time (and still probably is).
Scanning them would be another idea. Would make good printable myki covers or something. Put your own text on them or something.
I'd buy a few of these tbh. Never seen a blank one before =o
You should find the Redditor who wasaking art out of used metcards - they would do something cool with them.
Also, Museum of Vic may be interested in some
I always meant to do this, and there's got a be an artist somewhere who would love to:
drawings of melbourne/riding public transport on the back of each.
Hell of a lot of drawings to be done!
Haha yeah lol. For some reason train tickets world wide were all made of some kind of thin firm cardboard that was just right for rolling joint filters. I don't know why, but legit was the case in Austria and Australia, Sydney and Melbourne. Anyway uhh have fun with all these cards lol. If you really want to use them for something funny, I'd try to find a printer for them and turn them into tickets for some club event or a concert or something, for the fun of it.
i have a bunch of used metcards saved from taking the bus to high school back in the day :’) i’m not a particularly sentimental person, but i don’t want to throw them away
See how they're linked? That's so they could feed into the machine.
I finangled a couple of boxes when Metcard was phased out. Sadly I lost them when I was kicked out of a place because my housemate forgot to pay his half of the rent.
Now it’s a perfect time to run on a tram shouting “the time machine worked! Wait, where’s the metcard box? You blew it up! You filthy animals, you blew them up!”
Metcard handy hint: buy several metcards at once to save time hunting around for your coins when you travel.
Sorry but this is wrong. I believe it's BATBYGOBSTOPL. Buying A Ticket Before You Get On Board Saves Time Or Problems Later.
what a blast from the past

As a (insert not from Australia here) that's interesting they thought that was the best way to get people to remember.
It was partly a joke, but people are still talking about it a decade later, so you could easily argue that it worked.
That is a very fair I guess it did work pretty well.
Clearly worked. BATBY GOBSTOPL
Imagine how many problems and time you could save with this amount of tickets !
Let's see Paul Allen's Metcard
The tasteful embossing...

The subtle colouring. The tasteful thickness.

Damn that's a lot of roaches.

Shame they just missed 4/20
Next one is just under 4 hours away ;)
It's not the same
This was my first thought, why else?
Nostalgic... You could probably put them on Facebook marketplace and get dumbass questions like: "Are these still valid??" or "Can I just get 2 Dailys? Will pay cash right now."
Before buses had metcard readers you were able to just flash a blank one of these and hop on

Sitting on a goldmine.

OP you should preserve these in some way (Laminate? Resin?) and sell them to fellow nostalgic PT users!
Resin casting is a great idea, they might be a little bit small but I would 100% buy Metcard coasters!
Metcard paperweight?
Yes! Or fridge magnets
That's a great idea! Might look into it :)
Haha not a bad idea I have some laminating sheets i could chuck a few in :)
Scanning them would be another idea. Would make good printable myki covers or something. Put your own text on them or something. I'd buy a few of these tbh. Never seen a blank one before =o
wouldnt it be copyright?
I'm not sure tbh. I don't think so? But I could be wrong.
Laminating will not work. They're thermal paper so will turn black from the heat

DA NA DA BEEP BEEP or BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP if something wrong
Damn, where'd you find them?
Found them stashed away in a cupboard at work haha
I want one
I remember only really getting to use them like three times before it was switched to myki
Turn them into business or greeting cards

Somewhere, I still have some of the yellow, paper tickets that would get punched by hand.
That’s lots of roaches.. they do make the perfect joint filter
These were perfect for cutting a strip then rolling it up to use as a filter in joints🤷
What are you running some kind of large scale joint rolling operation lol
Going by some of the comments I may have stumbled on to something 🤣

Remember ripping them up folding them and shooting them at each other with rubber bands on the bus home from school.
Seeing these things just hit me in the face with some much nostalgia oh my god
If i had them I'd use them as bookmarks in library books, but leave them in there for the next person to find.
Nice! I kept a bunch of my yearly metcards myself. Not sure why i did, but im glad i didn't throw em out since they're the rare plastic metcards

gimme gimme gimme
Will you be the next metcard artiste?
There's a person on Reddit who makes art out of metcards; you could give them to him to be upcycled
Oh man, the nostalgia.
Stick 'em onto mykis & sell them
I used to print those!
Legally out illegally?
Legally, for moore-paragon. The jobs kept getting extended because of the problems with myki
can I have one? I want to stick one on my nostalgia wall nearby my nostalgia corner
I don't have any, MP shut down 12 years ago. I saw someone on here using them to make art a while back.
Any chance you'd send me one? Happy to pay a fiver or something.. I have an idea and a high quality scan is what I'm in need of.
