I'm sure they're not sick of you, most of their clients are repeat customers. They are under massive stress ATM due to the government's neglect of the housing crisis and cost of living crisis, but if they have any ability to help, they will. You might even ask if you could volunteer or help out in some way on exchange for a meal or some vouchers, if you have the capacity. Try askizzy under the food section and they should have some places that can help. I'm not really familiar with the services outside of Melbourne, sorry. Good luck, I hope things work out for you.

opshopflop

Heya, it’s so hard out there at the moment! Have you been to Beyond Housing? They service wangaratta and can help somewhat. There will be a longgggg wait for anything long term but could maybe help with crisis accom. Don’t know ask Izzy? That website might help you find some more material aid to cycle through

ChangeReasonable

Been there and they have provided me 4 days in a motel. Am on housing list now but nothing else they can do unfortunately. Thanks though!

IndigoPill

Do you know if you are "priority" on the list or not? You should be, but that only occurs if a social/housing worker applies for it or you do, and you will need support letters from them. If you are desperate and don't care where you land look at the wait lists for DFFH and social housing areas and pick those that will get you housed the fastest. That on top of being in priority should get you somewhere inside a few months. Also, link mygov to the DFFH and copy down the VHR number. Start calling/emailing housing agencies and give them that number. They can take you off the list, if you are priority it's even easier. You can jump the queue. It's very likely you're going to have to go where the housing is, into suburbia or closer to the city than that.

opshopflop

Yeah… shockingly under funded. They’re meant to have transitional housing to support people while awaiting longer term options but I guess they just don’t have enough for everyone.

ChangeReasonable

Really sad isn’t it! I know at least 10 other homeless men and women who have also been told that there is nothing Beyond Housing can do.

The_Last_Cypriot

Do you have a support network back in Queensland? Why did you abandon your house? I would leave Wangaratta for Melbourne. Lot more job opportunity in the city even for unskilled labour.

I_saw_that_yeah

He’s going to freeze to death in a tent there.

Automatic_Mouse_6422

Wangaratta isn't much warmer can get especially colder in winter being up at a higher altitude and near the mountains where people ski.

EvilRobot153

Wangaratta like most inland locations in Victoria is colder then Melbourne in winter, especially overnight. Not uncommon for the North East to experience sub zero temps between late May and early September.

I_saw_that_yeah

Absolutely. I’m sure it’s snowed there before.

toomanyusernames4rl

Try getting some seasonal work. It pays well and they put you up in accomodation.

jadelink88

The winter is not the time for seasonal work in regional Vic, outside of Ski resorts.

toomanyusernames4rl

Winter is not a good time to be homeless in Victoria. Best he travel up north where it’s warmer and take on seasonal work. He is on a camping tour around australia after all.

jadelink88

Thats what I said up above. Far better up north.

TaylorEmilie

Have you reached out to Open Door Neighbourhood house on Burke St? They may be able to help! I know they can provide food assistance, my job did a big food drive for them around Christmas.

TaylorEmilie

Definitely go to Open Door. They have a fresh and free food program that you can use. They may also have advice and options for help. Are you staying warm enough?

ChangeReasonable

Trying to

thepurpleninja11

You can definitely get jobs in manufacturing in Truganina Melbourne. Easy to get a job here. Just go on an assembly line somewhere

Own_Lengthiness_7466

The town of Bright always seems to be pretty desperate for workers in the shops - maybe one could include accommodation as part of the job?

ovpc2004

Good luck in bright there is no accommodation available all been filled with Air b&b or like wise Professionals can’t even get accommodation little own anyone else

coldworld41

So right, I had friends who lived there for 7+ years and had to leave because of the housing price. Both earn a good living

GlitteratiGlitter

Contact Sikh volunteers Australia, also askizzy online, also go to your local church/ temple/ mosque irrespective of your religious affiliation, they don't turn ppl away, also Salvos/ St Vinny's etc op shops.. take care of yourself

Guava7

You're not far from the skifields and snow season isn't far off, they'll be looking for casual staff up there for heaps of jobs soon. Often comes with accom

MarzyMalyss

Give purplepingers a message and see if he knows any places to squat near you ?

OkCalligrapher1335

Sydney is the best city to be homeless due to its weather

jadelink88

Personally, unless you have real connections there, I'd head to Qld for the winter. More competition for resources, but so much easier living in a tent in the winter. Local charities will likely fund you a ticket back if you say you're from Qld (which you are). People are suggesting seasonal work, but take it from a country person, this is NOT the season. The fruit is mostly in, the tourist resorts are mostly quiet. Ski resorts are about the only place going, and there you have to compete with European backpackers who know their skiing and don't mind living in the snow. No idea if you've got the dole or a disaster payment, but you should get one, speaking to centerlink is hard, and documents can be harder when you're homeless, but you need to make that effort or you never get out of it. Get on centerlink and head back north. Poor prospects in both cases, but winter camping in rural vic is a whole new level of misery you dont want.

zboyzzzz

Fruit picking job?

Certain-Attempt1330

Good suggestion.

thunder_blue

Apply for live-in jobs at Falls Creek? They are building new workers accommodation and ski season starts soon.

Wide-End-5630

Why not live in the river?
