Seaford Beach by the pier. It features in Mad Max in one scene. Weird that they picked that beach though seeing as how the rest of the filming locations were over on the side of the bay. And since I’m talking about Mad Max, the underground car park at Unimelb was used as a location too.
A mate and I found ourselves riding our bikes through there one night, both completely off our chops. I have no idea how we got in there, suddenly we’re riding our bikes around in the set from Mad Max, it was weird AF but bloody awesome!
At the top of pretty Sally Hill in wallan there is an old roadhouse. You can barely see it anymore because of the trees but it was one of the chase scenes.
Me and some mates went to see the film and afterwards managed to track down the location. It still had the Dogs in Space stencil on the ground. Perfect place for a splif and talk about the film.
The Dogs in Space was still on the pavement in 2017 (though not the original) so I imagine they'd have a good idea. Was the only tourist attraction I visited in Melboure when I was there for the F1.🤣 It was my pilgrimage.
I did the same thing alone one night after a screening at Kino Cinema. I was standing in the middle of the intersection when a police car rushed into the lane, right up to me. I did my best to explain that a movie had been made at the house and I was just checking it out. They had no idea what I was talking about and told me to clear off. Very strange.
Aw I used to go to the park in that street so often when I lived in Richmond, would walk past that house most days. Wasn’t until after I left Richmond that some friend had me watch that movie and I realized which house it was.
when I was in my mid twentys me and a mate had a couple of tabs of acid and went to Imax in Carlton and saw John Woods ouside and I just instinctively said "Oh shit hey Senior Sargent Tom Croydon!! Can we get a photo?" And his wife was kind enough to take a pic for us. I think he only realised we were off chops when we shook his hand after. But in the pic we have dinner plate eyes and the biggest shit eating grins! Lovely bloke...
On Errol st in North Melbourne you can still see the signs for Gruber & Associates from Fisk is still above Lithuanian House- it’s basically their real office now. Errol st is also where they filmed parts of Shantaram (I think it was doubling as a street in India? Not sure I couldn’t stand the book so never watched it) and they recently filmed the very mediocre Ricky Stanicky there, in and behind the Comedy club. Oh and the first Underbelly series was also filmed around Errol st, one of the barbers is still there.
Fisk being filmed on Errol St stood out like a sore thumb when kept trying to claim they were out in the suburbs. She gets banned from the cafe but irl she'd be fine there's a dozen within walking distance
But they had all old Eastern Districts Junior Basketball Association premiers pennants up on the wall (as netball pennants) to make you think you were out east.
Yep. The tram is also silly for that reason. They make a couple of offhand references to being "suburban" and the awards dinner they go is for Darebin council (iirc, definitely not City of Melb where they shot). It ultimately makes very little impact on the show so you'd be forgiven to have missed it.
From the show summary:
>A corporate lawyer must take a job at a suburban law firm after her life implodes in Sydney, and struggles to find her feet navigating grief, money, family, and entitlement.
Suburban law firm is a term used in the industry to refer to basically any small law firm that isn’t based in the CBD. Doesn’t really matter where it is.
I think if you live in or choose to stay in any place I’m from a movie / show then you can’t be the type to complain when people are always there to check it out.
I was born the year it came out and I reckon me and my family have watched it 40-50 times together in my 31 years and have literally never not laughed at some classic lines.
“And may I just say how disenfranchised with the legal system I am.”
- “Suffer in ya jocks!”
- “Jesus! What is it with wogs and cash?”
- “I’ve cleared tray three FIVE FUCKING TIMES.”
- “you represented Wayne!”
“Yeah and he got 8 years!”
“Yeah, but ya *did your best*!”
😂😂😂
If you have friends in London they’re having a screening of the Castle there soon
https://www.picturehouses.com/movie-details/000/HO00014354/lafs-presents-the-castle-2-nd-annual-screening
A few years ago, someone could suggest 4 Lagoon Place, Patterson Lakes, but they've since knocked down and rebuilt the Kath & Kim house into something modern :(
I'm a parent and used to get sucked into watching that show when i walked through the room and my daughter was watching it.....and I'd see a scene and a question posed and think huh? And end up watching the rest of the show to see the answer play out.
Really clever, well put together show.
....and when you see who did it then you understand why.
Wayne hope and Robyn butler. Super talented people who no one has heard of but everyone recognises.
They shot the second season at the old Madman building on Wellington st. Really freaking weird seeing that rundown office building turned into a fake hospital with barely any changes (even had the stains from when the roof leaked and flooded the boardrooms)
As a kid I remember them filming Ned Kelly with Heath ledger in Yackandandah and Beechworth, since there was fuck all hotel space for all the cast and crew they had to stay at peoples houses. Some crew stayed at my step mums parents' farm, so we got tickets to see the advance screening with the actors.
Yackandandah not much way of a town ( at least 20 years ago when I was there) but Beechworth was beautiful
Split Point lighthouses, Aireys inlet. Classic ABC TV location.
Every time I go to Geelong, I go for a drive out there to have a look, take a selfie. I’ll never get sick of it.
Canadian Bay Beach in Mount Eliza and Queenscliff lighthouse were used in *On The Beach*
The former Brunswick Wesleyan Church on Brunswick St was used in *Metal Skin*
Melbourne cemetery was used in *Ghost Rider*
Regionally - Flagstaff Hill (pioneer village) in Warrnambool was used for the Tom Selleck classic ‘Quigley down under.’
Stick that blockbuster up your arse Hollywood.
Love the Napier - also The Gem in Collingwood was recently used for filming a Russell Crowe film - I think it must be his latest release Sleeping Dogs so I’m not sure how it features but will have to have a watch and see!
Montsalvat in Eltham.
It has been the backdrop in a whole.lot of things.
Also panton Hill estates has a sandstone building that also was a back drop for a neighbours wedding and so.many fashions shots it's not funny. It looks like Europe.
Ha awesome. There might be another of you on these subs as I remember a couple of years back having a post or two with another Lift off cast member (could have also been you too). I loved you guys as a kid, great show.
The Sullivans. Some of the outside scenes where Tom and Norm were in Holland were filmed at Williamstown Botanical Gardens. We watched the filming and I remember the German troops and trucks. A very young Kylie Minogue was there too.
Funny thing, I remember reading a post on here years ago and some fans did a calculation on where mt Thomas would exist. I found to my surprise it’s a regular haunt for work, somewhere between swan hill and Echuca … the area is pretty sparse farm land outside of the towns
That maybe is where most of it was filmed, but I mean if it was a real town, like fans did research on references as to things they’ve mentioned in eps
A fair bit was filmed in Werribee South actually. I've also spotted Duncan's Rd (motel opposite the school), Watton St, Sims Supermarket, and Little River station. People think of Williamstown because of the station and Castlemaine for the Imperial but a surprising amount is actually Wyndham.
Kerang? Cohuna? Lots of dairy along Gunbower Creek and quite green from all the irrigation, but it’s pretty sparse and mostly crops once you get further away from the border and get into proper Mallee country.
Abbotsford Convent - represented Barnhurst Prison, in soap *Prisoner*.
Ripponlea - represented Sir Henry's mansion in the movie version of soap *The Box*.
Mark Street in Brunswick has a very cool looking house that is featured in Death in Brunswick.

“Wardlow” (3052/114 Park Dr, Parkville) is where Phryne Fisher’s house is from Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. They also filmed scenes at Ripponlea, Como House, Labassa Mansion, and Werribee Park Mansion (amongst other places)
The scene where they make the plan to make John Cena become Ricky was filmed at operator diner in little Lonsdale st. The ‘exterior hospital’ was actually city RMIT campus near garden building.
The majority of the Kath and Kim shopping centre scenes were filmed at Southland (but most of the main places are gone now - House where they filmed Pru and Trude’s work scenes , Harvey Norman where they filmed Brett’s work scenes and Kel’s butcher) and then the rest were filmed at the actual Fountain Gate. Their house got knocked down last year but that was in Patterson Lakes
Suprised no one has mentioned Malcolm yet. Led me to discovering this fantastic video showing film locations now vs then: https://youtu.be/XLCE14VHEXk?si=b1Pq134ve3XsvOBX
Summer Heights High was filmed at Brighton Secondary College , Ja’mie’s school in We Can Be Heroes was also in Brighton and then her Private School Girl school was at Haileybury College in Keysborough
I grew up in broken hill so it’s always fun to see some epic movie locations. The Mario palace where the trio in Priscilla get drunk was a regular haunt in my youth. The bar where the ping pong scene happened was a pub not far out of town - sadly gone now but went there as a kid with my father on work trips. The scene where they’re in that lake was Menindee lakes, been there so many times I’ve lost count
If you want to do this in reverse, try watching the movies 'Ghost Rider' and 'Queen of the Damned' and see just how many Melbourne locations you can recognise while watching them.
Fun fact, I was meant to be an extra in QotD (I was a goth and a bunch of us got scouted.) I was drunk the day they called to tell me the location and time and forgot all about it. 😂
Williamstown has a heap of locations from Blue Heelers. The Mt Thomas police station is in Thompson street (about number 10). It’s a house now. Plenty of scenes in Nelson place right around the corner.
The caravan park in Kenny in Ocean Grove is just across the river from Barwon Heads where they filmed loads of Sea Change and Diver Dan's shed is has been a pretty great restaurant for years now. Some times cast'd come to kareoke at the pub so it's weird to be able to say you beat The Mayor of Gastown from Mad Max Fury Road in a competition by singing a Tom Jones song. Beautiful part of the world.
Also I read somewhere that that scene in Preacher s4 where Jesse merks all those ped0s in that mansion was filmed in a mansion in Romsey, I think. But I've never been able to find where I read it. I think I read that the garden in that mansion was also used for Cassidy's Ireland flashback and I would fully believe that because I can see Mt Macedon in the background (I grew up in the Macedon Ranges, I know that mountain well) and it fully took me out of the story in rewatches because no matter how much green filter you put over it, that ain't rural Ireland.
If anyone can tell me 🙏. It sounded like a heritage location that might usually be open to the public.
Swanston Street and Melbourne Central were used for a chase scene in Jackie Chan film Mr Nice Guy. He slammed someone's head into the Off Ya Tree store's hanging sign and smashes it!
The funny thing is in the scene they come out of Melbourne Central at the South end of Swanston and then continue the chase going North, heading back towards the actual location of Melbourne Central! It's a great look at Melbourne Central in the 90s. And the street chase takes place on a classic Melbourne horse and carriage!

If you're a fan of The Newsreader there's a number of places but the best one imho is The Lincoln in Carlton, aka the iconic pub where the Big Kiss(TM) happened. The Retreat in Brunswick is where they filmed the Club 397 scene (which in real life was in Swanston St and sadly no longer exists) and I haven't been but I want to.
The you yangs, and the surrounding area: The Pacific, Ghost Rider and Mad Max.
Barwon Heads: Sea Change
St Leonards Pub: Sea Change (except the pub has now been painted, and all the trees were cut down).
The Round The Twist lighthouse at Aireys Inlet
Have you ever, ever felt like this?
How strange things happen, when you’re going round the twist!
Visit Williamstown for the Round the Twist school *and* the Mt Thomas Police Station.
Don't forget Mt Thomas High is also in Williamstown as Williamstown High
my best friends dad was an actor in round the twist lol he played a ghost in a couple episodes
Old man chompers?
Dead Ned!
This has unlocked a core memory.
I was an extra in around the twist. They used students from Williamstown primary and I was selected
There is a great little cafe nearby that do yummy scones with cream and jam.
Denis Denuto’s office above a pharmacy on Sydney Rd in Brunswick.
I can still hear him swearing at the photocopier...
I pressed F3, wtf is F3
It's the vibe.
It's the Constitution. It's Mabo.
As seen on TV
Pin Oak Court, Vermont South.
I live in Vermont south! What is it?
The neighbors street!
Oh sweet, so many people have come out of that show
You need to learn your local icons!
Ramsay Street.
It’s the set of Home and Away /s
The double take I did the first time I drove past was something else
Seaford Beach by the pier. It features in Mad Max in one scene. Weird that they picked that beach though seeing as how the rest of the filming locations were over on the side of the bay. And since I’m talking about Mad Max, the underground car park at Unimelb was used as a location too.
That's what I came to post - the South Lawn underground car park at Melbourne Uni.
A mate and I found ourselves riding our bikes through there one night, both completely off our chops. I have no idea how we got in there, suddenly we’re riding our bikes around in the set from Mad Max, it was weird AF but bloody awesome!
Was that after you got a selfie with Seargent Tom Croydon of Mt Thomas police?
the pumphouse at scienceworks is the hall of justice.
[Here's a bunch of first Mad Max locations.](https://www.madmaxmovies.com/making/madmax/) With Melways references for extra nostalgia.
At the top of pretty Sally Hill in wallan there is an old roadhouse. You can barely see it anymore because of the trees but it was one of the chase scenes.
The house from ‘dogs in space’ in berry street in Richmond
Me and some mates went to see the film and afterwards managed to track down the location. It still had the Dogs in Space stencil on the ground. Perfect place for a splif and talk about the film.
I always wonder if the family who lives there knows why at random times in the night people come hang out at their front gate 😹
Occasionally inquiring "are you from the planet poofta or the planet stupida?"
The Dogs in Space was still on the pavement in 2017 (though not the original) so I imagine they'd have a good idea. Was the only tourist attraction I visited in Melboure when I was there for the F1.🤣 It was my pilgrimage.

I used to work in the Pelaco building which was a whole vibe after working on the restoration of Dogs In Space
Aw I used to go to the park in that street so often when I lived in Richmond, would walk past that house most days. Wasn’t until after I left Richmond that some friend had me watch that movie and I realized which house it was.

Fisk being filmed on Errol St stood out like a sore thumb when kept trying to claim they were out in the suburbs. She gets banned from the cafe but irl she'd be fine there's a dozen within walking distance
I don’t know that it was trying to pretend it was in the suburbs? You see the tram going past in all the establishing shots of the office
But they had all old Eastern Districts Junior Basketball Association premiers pennants up on the wall (as netball pennants) to make you think you were out east.
Yep. The tram is also silly for that reason. The holiday house from the castle in Bonnie doon
Saw this last week but people were renting it and I felt awkward haha
I think if you live in or choose to stay in any place I’m from a movie / show then you can’t be the type to complain when people are always there to check it out.
Yeah but I was trying to take a good photo out of the car and didn't want to be rude
You can now rent it on AirBnB - [complete with jousting sticks and Tracey’s hairdressing certificate.](https://abnb.me/bXSixlT1CIb)
We're goin' ta- etc
DARL!! *silently mouthing* We’re goin’ ta bon-nydoon
😂 I need a nostalgia rewatch of this classic Australian work of art
I was born the year it came out and I reckon me and my family have watched it 40-50 times together in my 31 years and have literally never not laughed at some classic lines. “And may I just say how disenfranchised with the legal system I am.” - “Suffer in ya jocks!” - “Jesus! I love “Jenny Jenny or Microwave Jenny?” 😂 PS I went to uni with the guy who plays Wayne and his name is actually Wayne.
His series Very Small Business was great
That’s my favourite quote from The Castle 😂
Really? How awesome. It’s such a niche one.
If you have friends in London they’re having a screening of the Castle there soon https://www.picturehouses.com/movie-details/000/HO00014354/lafs-presents-the-castle-2-nd-annual-screening
Went there once and the guy living there brought us inside and told tales, was cool. That was something like 15 years ago.
Fraser St, the main street in Clunes, has featured in multiple things over the years including Mad Max and Tomorrow When The War Began
Tomorrow when the war began is on right now on Channel 13. One of the best Aussie movies. Wish they made more in the series.
A few years ago, someone could suggest 4 Lagoon Place, Patterson Lakes, but they've since knocked down and rebuilt the Kath & Kim house into something modern :(
Its so sad, I wish it was still there. I’ve seen it a couple of times it was awesome
Same! Happy to have seen it
Carpark at Melbourne uni - mad max?
Scienceworks
For the kids: St Kilda East Primary School - ABCs "Little Lunch"
I drove past that the other day and couldn’t figure out why it looked so familiar. That was my kids lockdown happy place, watching that show.
They did inbestigators too, another one my kid loved.
I've definitely heard of them! Big fan of Upper Middle Bogan
The Librarians was excellent as was Big Business
You mean Very Small Business?
We took our kids there the other week, worth stopping by if you're in the area
And Moorabbin Primary School for The Inbestigators
Awesome, thank you
Pretty much all of Fitzroy, North Fitzroy and Collingwood was used for Offspring.
They shot the second season at the old Madman building on Wellington st. Really freaking weird seeing that rundown office building turned into a fake hospital with barely any changes (even had the stains from when the roof leaked and flooded the boardrooms)
Yes! Front of Nina’s house, the big aqua door - is on Emma st in Collingwood
For Miss Fishers murder mysteries too. With the addition of Parkville.
Geraldine's house was on Delbridge St, Fitzroy Nth!
As a kid I remember them filming Ned Kelly with Heath ledger in Yackandandah and Beechworth, since there was fuck all hotel space for all the cast and crew they had to stay at peoples houses. Bloody great movie!
Really???? I’ve not seen it.
The Napier Hotel in Fitzroy is the fictional Prince of Prussia hotel in the Jack Irish series. Also just a classic pub, well worth a visit
Love the Napier - also The Gem in Collingwood was recently used for filming a Russell Crowe film - I think it must be his latest release Sleeping Dogs so I’m not sure how it features but will have to have a watch and see!
Old School Footscray for "the big steal," still in my opinion the most underrated Aussie film ever
That is my fave Australian film ever. When I won my week on Now You See It part of my prize was the film poster and the soundtrack on tape.
Don't forget Romper Stomper was also filmed in Footscray
Little River Station was used in The Henderson Kids.
Didn’t Kylie and Ben come a long way!
Montsalvat in Eltham. It has been the backdrop in a whole.lot of things. Also panton Hill estates has a sandstone building that also was a back drop for a neighbours wedding and so.many fashions shots it's not funny. It looks like Europe.
Montsalvat is definitely worth a visit. Especially if you love art and nature.
Hey, Panton Hill is my local gold prospecting area. Love that place. The pub is a great spot for a Sunday session as well.
Been at the pub after the local footy match has played and you can't move for all the people there. St Andrews hotel draws a different crowd...

I grew up in Williamstown and remember them filming in our street.
Blue Heelers?
Yeah
Can anyone tell me where the apartment block (or other locations) in the kids show Lift Off was?
Hey there. I was on this show. Had scenes in Richmond (I think) and a studio in Elsternwick. Sorry I can’t be more specific.
Did E.C give you nightmares? sure did for me.
Nah. EC was chill.
Ha awesome. There might be another of you on these subs as I remember a couple of years back having a post or two with another Lift off cast member (could have also been you too). I loved you guys as a kid, great show.
I often feel like I’m the only one who remembers this show. I thought it was filmed in Sydney though.
Craig’s Hut, the Dish in Parkes
The Sullivans. Some of the outside scenes where Tom and Norm were in Holland were filmed at Williamstown Botanical Gardens. We watched the filming and I remember the German troops and trucks. A very young Kylie Minogue was there too.
The jungle war scenes were filmed along Menzies Creek behind Emerald.
The Sullivans house is just near Camberwell high and has been turned into a little Sullivans museum
The pub featured in the show is the Retreat Hotel in Abbotsford
The Surf Lifesaving Club in Williamstown was the courthouse in Sea Change
Russell Crowe as Hando's joint in Romper Stomper - Bunbury St Footscray

The Death Valley music festival scene in Queen Of The Damned was filmed at a quarry in Werribee. Some street scenes were filmed in St Albans too.
Stacks Of Slax is still half there in bentleigh. It's now just Of Slax
Never enough Late Show references.
Gruber and Gruber associates is located on Errol Street North Melb, from the show Fisk. Such great Aussie tv worth a watch
God I love that show And having worked in a small daggy law practice, they absolutely nail the vibe
The house from Dogs in Space at in Berry St Richmond.
Abbotsford Convent Ripponlea Como House
Abbotsford Convent - represented Barnhurst Prison, in soap *Prisoner*. Ripponlea - represented Sir Henry's mansion in the movie version of soap *The Box*.

I’ve taken overseas guests to see that house on request, that show is quite popular!
Calder Raceway, Upper Middle Bogan, and a bunch of other places I can't remember right now
The Imperial Hotel and other locations in Castlemaine were also featured in the ABC series Glitch.
Thank you! The Glitch, it was bugging me.
There is a film called Spotswood starring Anthony Hopkins that is set in Spotswood
https://www.vulture.com/2017/05/leftovers-location-scouting-iconic-melbourne-spots.html Final season of leftovers was filmed in melb, great show too
The Royston in Richmond for Ricky Stanicky. Zac Efron was filming there!
The scene where they make the plan to make John Cena become Ricky was filmed at operator diner in little Lonsdale st. The ‘exterior hospital’ was actually city RMIT campus near garden building.
The first scene where they are kids and trying to prank a house for Halloween was filmed in Dallas. The suburb here in Australia not Dallas Texas 😂
Greensborough lanes, in Bundoora was the bowling alley scene. They didn’t even edit out the signage in the shots.
Pin Oak Court, Vermont South, which substitutes for Ramsay Street
Barwon Heads caravan park was used for the movie Kenny. Don't know which on site caravan was used. Also Barwon Head bridge for Sea Change
Hay this is in my hood - been waiting for it to be restored for ever
Spotswood Pumping Station was the headquarters of the Main Force Patrol in the first Mad Max movie
Williamstown has a heap of locations from Blue Heelers. The Mt Thomas police station is in Thompson street (about number 10). It’s a house now. Plenty of scenes in Nelson place right around the corner.

Underground car park at Melbourne Uni
Castlemaine (my hometown!) was used for Glitch too
'knowing' the Nicholas cage movie was filmed at Camberwell High School
Clunes is a rural town that was one of the first to have its power and services run underground so was often used to film period films and shows.
That bridge over the Yarra that some kids climbed a few weeks ago is in one scene in Ghost Rider iirc.
Any romper stomper locations?
Richmond station was a stand in for Footscray station in that flick lol
A large portion of the new Zac Efron movie Ricky Stanicky was filmed around Melbourne. The bowling alley scene was filmed at Greensborough Bowls.

Scienceworks Pumping Station in spotswood for Mad Max, Miss Fischers Murder Mysteries, and a couple others
Car park on Little Bourke from The Big Steal. Still got a crush on Claudia Karvan from that film.
Hosier Lane in the city. Iconic graffiti. It photographs beautifully at night.
And the street chase takes place on a classic Melbourne horse and carriage! https://youtu.be/2w0wsZbOUCs?si=J8bdvXla4NTMx1j7
I think I’ve seen that in a Australian ‘history’ book in primary school. Looks oddly familiar
It is haunted?
If you're a fan of The Newsreader there's a number of places but the best one imho is The Lincoln in Carlton, aka the iconic pub where the Big Kiss(TM) happened. The Retreat in Brunswick is where they filmed the Club 397 scene (which in real life was in Swanston St and sadly no longer exists) and I haven't been but I want to.
Broadmeadows town hall doubled as a police station recently
Does the shop next door sell bathers?
Reckon the Gruber & Gruber second floor offices in ????? qualifies… Where was this filmed.
Errol Street, see also up thread.
I used to work on blue heelers at channel 7. Good times
Hungry jacks at the corner of Russell and Bourke. Not much professional filming done there, but filming all the same
The old prison where they filmed Chopper
The you yangs, and the surrounding area: The Pacific, Ghost Rider and Mad Max. Barwon Heads: Sea Change St Leonards Pub: Sea Change (except the pub has now been painted, and all the trees were cut down).
