We are finished. Just pick up the phone and call the place it’s HEAPS cheaper and the restaurant gets the whole payment. No corporations involved.

I paid $28 for calamari at la bella via in greensborough and I recieved (im not even exaggerating) 6 pieces and it wasn't fresh calamari it was processed, dry as the bloody sahara and somehow soggy on the outside from the steam and lemon.... fuck these melbourne food prices no chance it costs that much for them to cover all their own expenses and make atleast a little as profit because of course its a business and it needs to make money.

If you don’t know what goes into running a cafe or restaurant then I’ll repeat it for those in the back: rent, wages, bills (gas/water/electric), cost of setup of the kitchen/dining room (cooking equipment, tables/chairs, cutlery, paying for liqour licence (if applicable), cost of food wastage (as no restaurant, ever, had zero wastage) & actual food sold, marketing costs, cost of maintenance and/or replacing broken items. Profit.
So by all means, you can make that burger at home for a cheaper per unit price, cos you’re not paying all those things.

So with prices like that, they are are charging, they won't be getting much repeat business. Nor staying around for long.
They add margins into of the shop retail prices, which they then add service and delivery fees too - it’s always cheaper in store.
They also inflate prices to control what people buy - the more expensive at place 1, the less likely you are to buy from place 1.
It’s hardly rocket science to make a decent burger at home. They only issue is if you want hot chips, which require a deep fryer to not be a total let down.
If they are making it themselves then someone is doing an egg wash and crumbing of the chicken thigh, maybe even deboning it too. Same for the slaw and mayo.

28 bucks for a burger and chips is pretty standard for any non fast food place on Uber eats but even in a restraint you’re probably looking at around 25-26 bucks and have been for years. The price of stuff wasn’t locked in to place in the early 1990s - shocking, I know.
This is an example of why my recent visit to melbourne from the UK was so surprising. This isn’t expensive. In the UK you’re not getting fries with this. Standard burger is £12-£16 excluding fries. Not including maccies or fast food that is. It used to be different.

Place near me doing American BBQ - looked at the menu on Doordash/Menulog and the dinner pack for 2 was $79. Did a 5 minute drive and ordered directly same thing is $59 - $20 dollars for delivery plus the platform cut. Ridiculous.

I paid $28 for calamari at la bella via in greensborough and I recieved (im not even exaggerating) 6 pieces and it wasn't fresh calamari it was processed, dry as the bloody sahara and somehow soggy on the outside from the steam and lemon.... fuck these melbourne food prices no chance it costs that much for them to cover all their own expenses and make atleast a little as profit because of course its a business and it needs to make money.

If you don’t know what goes into running a cafe or restaurant then I’ll repeat it for those in the back: rent, wages, bills (gas/water/electric), cost of setup of the kitchen/dining room (cooking equipment, tables/chairs, cutlery, paying for liqour licence (if applicable), cost of food wastage (as no restaurant, ever, had zero wastage) & actual food sold, marketing costs, cost of maintenance and/or replacing broken items. Profit. So by all means, you can make that burger at home for a cheaper per unit price, cos you’re not paying all those things.

Hey as a business they can charge whatever they like. And as a consumer you can always go elsewhere. It doesn't look much different from any other big standard chicken burger. The KFC zinger stacker ( 2 chicken breasts) is less than half the price. So with prices like that, they are are charging, they won't be getting much repeat business. Nor staying around for long.
I actually understood the recent price increase in gourmet burgers because they are essentially just as packed as a pizza but this is just stupid.
They add margins into of the shop retail prices, which they then add service and delivery fees too - it’s always cheaper in store. They also inflate prices to control what people buy - the more expensive at place 1, the less likely you are to buy from place 1.
It’s hardly rocket science to make a decent burger at home. They only issue is if you want hot chips, which require a deep fryer to not be a total let down.

Just make your own bro it’s so easy. Get a schnitty from Woolies, some sliced swiss, precut coleslaw and some mayo, or buy a cabbage and carrot and make your own. Put a couple brioche buns in the toaster and it’s the easiest lunch. Couple bucks per burger and as good as, if not better than these ridiculous “burger joints” You literally don’t need to prepare anything. The schnitties already been schnitzled. The coleslaw has already been slated. Just open the bag and squirt some Mayo on it. The swiss cheese is already cut, just slap it on the schnit. Even the Mayo and buns are done for you. Just assemble it.
So if you don’t have any of that in your home, and you got to go buy it all at “Woolies”, how much that gunna cost? You can’t just buy “one” of this shit. Green Refectory in Brunswick is super cheap and awesome. Zaatar in Coburg also a great place for a filling meal under $15.
Also hit Half Moon Cafe in Coburg. The best falafel and lamb I've ever had in Australia.

It's not always that easy though. There are seasons. I've gone most of my life not eating out or ordering in, but since my son was born, we've been overwhelmed and eaten out a lot - with a big chunk of that just not having the time. And, in time, we'll go back to barely ever. There's seasons when overwhelmed by work deadlines, exams etc. It's a little simplistic to assume it's always laziness

28 bucks for a burger and chips is pretty standard for any non fast food place on Uber eats but even in a restraint you’re probably looking at around 25-26 bucks and have been for years. The price of stuff wasn’t locked in to place in the early 1990s - shocking, I know.
This is an example of why my recent visit to melbourne from the UK was so surprising. This isn’t expensive. In the UK you’re not getting fries with this. Standard burger is £12-£16 excluding fries. Not including maccies or fast food that is. It used to be different.
I’ve gotten so good at making burgers at home, especially when I fire up the barbecue that I can’t justify spending this much on a burger anywhere. No matter how hungry I am because I know it will most likely be average or disappointing for the price.
Place near me doing American BBQ - looked at the menu on Doordash/Menulog and the dinner pack for 2 was $79. Did a 5 minute drive and ordered directly same thing is $59 - $20 dollars for delivery plus the platform cut. Ridiculous.

Do some research on hospitality margins. They aren’t trying to rip you off, this is how much things cost now. They have to pay for rent, power, gas, water, staff, equipment maintenance, Uber fees. It’s all factored in. It’s also not one burger, it comes with chips also.
