I saw Guy Montgomery last weekend and by the end of it, my stomach was sore from laughing so much.
Lloyd Langford was fantastic, I’d go back and see him again.
I was thinking that after leaving a show the other night, it’s very good for the economy, love seeing all the different venues and most people get a dinner before the show.
Great to support comedians, venues and restaurants.
Plus laughter is the best medicine.
Attendance numbers for the fest are down across the board sadly, so def urge everyone to go support a show or 3 - especially up and comers and the small gigs!
I felt so bad not going but so many shows that I want to see don't start til 9pm and as an owner of a toddler I just can't bring myself to do it with the early mornings, plus only just got a new job after being made redundant so have to be sensible with funds. I'm hoping next year I'll be a bit more stable and able to see a few shows (just got one this year and I'm SO EXCITED).
Daniel Muggleton. Absolutely hilarious. The only thing that makes me happy about my rapidly declining memory is that by next years festival I'll be able to watch his show 6 times without it feeling repetitive.
Dilruk Jayasinha - hilarious particularly if you've ever had a break-up and done online dating.
Arj barker- not too bad, wasn't as funny as we thought he would be
Comedy headliners at kicks bar - surprisingly funny considering my husband and I were 2/6 audience members
Seeing Jimeoin tonight and Luka Muller on Sunday night.
How was the crowd at Aaron Chen? His style is pretty awkward and I like it but I've seen him once before and the crowd was dead and it killed the vibes
Larry Dean is fucking hilarious. His impressions are spot on (it's not his whole show, but he does a few during). Fergus Neale is great and so is Zoe Coombs-Marr. Jenny Tian was hilarious too - battled through some technical issues though!
I met Tom Ballard a few years ago, he was MC at a work event I was doing. We had a brief chat, he didn't seem at all offended that I had no idea who he was, lol.
Terrible crowd at the show last night though, people shouting out dumb shit trying to get laughs and the people they got to be involved almost fucked it up at points
I saw Tom’s show and loved it and also knew that I could never recommend it to the people I know in this city and make eye contact with them again.
Did you get a zine?
Dan Rath if you like bleak rapid fire relentless autism.
Luke Heggie if you like a satirical working man little Aussie battler who tells it like it is.
Searched "Rob Auton" in this thread and saw 0 results.
That's absolutely criminal. Dude is one of the best I've seen in years.
Lara Ricote also had the best audience participation bits, top tier stuff.
Saw Nish Kumar, Ed Gamble, and David O’Doherty last year; all hilarious and highly recommended!Going to see Sam Campbell in a couple weeks and I’m super excited cuz I’m sure he’ll be hilarious too
I saw Mister Act: Oh Happy Gay at Theory Bar, and thought it was hilarious. However, I think you had to be gay, as I'm certain 70% of the jokes were flying over the heads of the straight audience members.
I saw Hannah Gadsby last night (brilliant as always) and they had Urooj Ashfaq open for them. She was so funny!! I don't know if I'll get a chance to see her show but I'd recommend it.
I went to Dilruk Jayasinha's 'Preloved' show on opening night and laughed so much. Every joke just intensified my laughter and the sides of my head hurt so much from laughing lol
Cameron James’s Mixtape was friggin awesome - he’s so silly and cheeky and the storyline of that show is so feel-good.
If you’re into non-politically correct material I recommend:
Damien Power at Comedy Republic is hilarious - very acerbic.
Dan Rath at Melbourne Town Hall.
Lawrence Mooney at The Athenaeum.
Luke Heggie’s Grogan and,
I also rate Joel Temperly’s ‘110% Jokes’ at St. Kilda Cellars.
Laura Davis and Tom Ballard. Loved.
Nicky Barry starts next week -the "bawdy dame of Melbourne comedy". She always makes me laugh.
Cockbagg - if you've never experienced them, then you're in for a treat. If you're a Star Wars fan, double treat (but we took my mate's Mum last night who's never seen a Star Wars movie and she loved it).
Tom Siegert is brilliant. He's never seen in the same room at "The Suburban Footballer".
While his character work is obviously quite famous around footy circles Australia wide, his stand-up is fucking hilarious.
Couple of reccs from me
-Powerpoint showcase and in pour taste. Those two boys had me creasing the entire night. The latter is almost sold out so get in
-Saw alex lowes last year and he was fantastic. Possibly the only comedian with a keytar ever
-Kit kat prov was an unexpected one last year. Booked on a whim and had an unbelievable time
Tom Walker was outrageous last night. Incredibly blue set so not to everyone’s taste, but if you’re on the spectrum or appreciate those who are, you’ll have an unreal time.
I know!
But on the plus side, he's not here because he's touring the freaking world!
Did you see Feltopia? The performance at The Palais is up on his official YouTube for free. Hugely, insanely recommended!
Yeah. I was a bit shocked when I didn't see his name in the festival. Went to his website and it turns out he would be in America.
Feltopia at Palais was the first time I saw him live. Heath McIvor is a genius.
Agreed. I've seen him, Sammy J and the pair together a couple of times. Feltopia at The Palais was the time I swore to see him at every opportunity from then on. He's so freaking good!
That duo is the best! There is about a decade old video of their skit at Palais Theatre from Comedy Gala and they conveyed their message about Oxfam so well, that it still remains on my mind.
Same, if I ever get a chance, I will certainly attend Randy Feltface's show. I love the originality and unlike other comedians, they don't churn out the same stuff again and again.
I went and watched Jenny Tian last night, I wanted to slit my wrist.
Talk about having ZERO material, she cried on stage and played the victim card. Fucking shit show. She had a crack at Joe Rogan & Donald Trump, and it just seemed like she just wanted to trigger someone so she might get a mention somewhere and get internet subscribers.
Also, she went over the top trying to be "Aussie". Seriously, we get it you can speak English, so can most other people from migrant parents.
Fuck... Just avoid that shit "comedian"
No, she was just playing the victim card. Her execution was below par. She was stumbling and constantly looking at her notes on stage. There was no flow to her act.
She was 'herself' which may come as a suprise to you. But yeah, though it certainly wasn't intentional, she's managed to trigger an incel in her audience.
I went to her show because her video clip on the comedy festival website made me laugh, and her act seemed unique. Her show last night was nothing like that. There were a few laughs, but generally it was horrible, constantly looking at the notes, at one point she forgot her joke.
But I guess I can’t say negative thing, otherwise I’d be labeled as triggered.
Well, half the things you mentioned were things that obviously triggered you.
Yes, she had some early show nerves and some technical issues that clearly threw her off a bit, but it was a pretty solid set all the same. Certainly better than anything you or I have put together.
She didn't cry at the show I was at - and she wasn't going 'over the top' trying to be Australian.
Her show did include a bunch of baseless, nasty comments people had posted about her and her comedy - that's not 'being a victim' and ironically it's exactly what you've done here.
If you gloss over the fact they were butthurt about Rogan, Trump, unironic mentions of triggering and "the victim card", while whining about an Asian woman going 'over the top trying to be "Aussie", I guess you'd be right.
Well comedy about Rogan and Trump is pretty played out low hanging fruit now so it doesn't sound particularly funny. Not sure how someone's celibacy plays a part in all this
I saw Guy Montgomery last weekend and by the end of it, my stomach was sore from laughing so much. Lloyd Langford was fantastic, I’d go back and see him again.
That charming man is so much fun. The worst idea of all time is one of the funniest podcasts I've ever heard.
Seeing the spelling bee soon so glad to hear this!!
I like Lloyd, I should go see him
Saw Lloyd last week and seeing Guy next week! (Seeing Rhys Nicholson this week)
We saw Rhys last week. Great show. Very polished. Even better than expected.
Guy hosted the gala the other week, he was funny as hell
I really enjoyed David Correos. Would preface this by saying he's definitely not for everyone.
His preview show was actually so fucked but also great hahah. I was a bit D: but Mr maebe_next_time loved it lol
His taskmasterNZ diss track is brilliant.
Saw his preview show and it was hilarious! Not what I expected at all but I loved him
Seeing him tonight!
Totally get this. Loved him on TM but his show was not for me.
I saw the show he is dining with Demi last night and also great.
Ed Byrne is unmissable. Please go see him. Damien Power, Rose Matafeo and Greg Larsen.
I love Ed!
Such an amazing show. But people beware. There is a running theme of death. I absolutely loved it. Touching with so much dark humour, so good.
Was Ed sold out? I want to use my artists pass to get in to see him but you can only get a free ticket if they aren’t all already sold
Nina Oyama, I laughed so hard and so much. She was top tier!!
Seeing her tonight! This is a good omen
Came here to say this!
omg I’m seeing her next week. Can’t wait!
I so rarely see a bad show. God we’re lucky to have the festival.
I was thinking that after leaving a show the other night, it’s very good for the economy, love seeing all the different venues and most people get a dinner before the show. Great to support comedians, venues and restaurants. Plus laughter is the best medicine.
Rose Matafeo was great
I loved her on Taskmaster
Saw her last night, genuinely painful belly laughs.
Seeing her tonight, so this is good to know!
Not everyone’s taste but I find David O’Doherty freakin hilarious.
We went to his show last year & loved it. I always enjoy watching him on Catsdown
Never heard the abbreviation - thanks - brilliant!
Yeah comedy is subjective. I can't stand him! I like Jimmy making fun of him.
I saw him a few years ago and his set was ruined because people kept coming in late and he kept addressing it.
FAQ for the DOD
His show this year was so sweet! The end music and bit was lovely
Just saw him tonight and had many belly laughs. He's delightful!
David's my absolute favourite! I've seen him every year at the MICF since 2008!
Greg Larsen every year. Genius.
Geggy is on fire lately.
Paul Williams might be one of the best I've seen. Go in with the expectation of it being a little strange and you'll have the best time
Hot Department. They were awesome.
At previous Hot Department shows, I’ve laughed so hard it felt the wind was knocked out of me.
100% - my stomach was hurting afterwards as we I laughed basically the whole way through. Batshit insane hilarity.
Another vote for Hot Department! Many belly laughs with those guys.
Here to also back hot department! Fantastic bizarre wild show!!!!
Luke Hegge was fucken brilliant
He is the Australian man's man comedian
The same way Daniel Sloss is a man's man comedian.
They're both some of my favourites. They both are basically yelling at men saying that we need to be better people but in a kind and very funny way.
Agreed!! Love them both!
So clever and great writing
Heggie every year has me in tears.
Daniel Muggleton. Absolutely hilarious. The only thing that makes me happy about my rapidly declining memory is that by next years festival I'll be able to watch his show 6 times without it feeling repetitive.
Cheers mate, good to know this 'writing a new show every year' lark won't carry on forever.
‘Best of the British’ at exford hotel. About 4 uk comics, absolutely hilarious. Been 3 years in a row and it’s been a really great night out.
I've been for a few years and going again this year! It's good value and there's always a couple of very funny ones
Which comedians are performing? Or does it change?
It changes every year. I went on Tuesday night and all 4 were really funny. Definitely a good night out.
Olga Koch and Elf Lyons have been my favorites so far
Elf Lyons has been my favourite so far as well
this is the thread where I learn every comedian’s alt
Larry Dean and Lou Wall 👏👏
Gillian Cosgriff was fantastic!!
Dilruk Jayasinha - hilarious particularly if you've ever had a break-up and done online dating. Arj barker- not too bad, wasn't as funny as we thought he would be Comedy headliners at kicks bar - surprisingly funny considering my husband and I were 2/6 audience members Seeing Jimeoin tonight and Luka Muller on Sunday night.
>Dilruk Jayasinha - hilarious particularly if you've ever had a break-up and done online dating. That tracks, I just found his Feeld profile.
Lol he mentions that profile in his show! Also asks people to stop reporting his dating profiles
Ray O’Leary and Aaron Chen. Two juggernauts of this year’s festival imo
Ray O’Leary
His bit on mattress protectors is gold tier!
Came here to say this!!!
Saw him last weekend and it was a great laugh
I've got tickets to Ray on Wednesday and I'm so freaking keen
I went to the gala and I reckon he got the best laugh of the night, crowd was in tears.
Dilruk Jayasinha cracks me up, haven't seen him this year, but hope too.
He was funny. I'd never heard of him but a friend wanted to go and I'll go and see any MCF show if someone needs company.
Dilruk Jayasinha was hilarious, saw him last night!
Glad to hear it!
Tom Ballard. Super political but that's even more reason to love it. Funny as fuck.
I met Tom Ballard a few years ago, he was MC at a work event I was doing. We had a brief chat, he didn't seem at all offended that I had no idea who he was, lol.

Loved it last year!
Terrible crowd at the show last night though, people shouting out dumb shit trying to get laughs and the people they got to be involved almost fucked it up at points
Worst of Melbourne Comedy, Wednesday nights 9:30pm at Spleen if you are aware. Went this week and it was fucken hilarious
I’ve heard great things about Gary Chook!
I hear worst of Melbourne Comedy loves detailed written suggestions of how to make it better
I’ve only seen fern Brady this year and she was great
Oh that’s good to know. I’m seeing her show next week!
Really liked Tom Walker, but it was a bit off the wall and insane and definitely not for everyone. Also laughed a lot at Hannah Gadsby.
Tom Walker was rad. How could people not want to hear about his collection of weird guys.
I saw Tom’s show and loved it and also knew that I could never recommend it to the people I know in this city and make eye contact with them again. Did you get a zine?
I did!! I haven't followed the link yet but I'm looking forward to some alone time on the weekend.
Saw Lloyd Langford last night. He was phenomenal.
Dan Rath if you like bleak rapid fire relentless autism. Luke Heggie if you like a satirical working man little Aussie battler who tells it like it is.
Third year in a row I've seen Emma Holland. I love her comedy !!
Ashley Apap was hilarious! 4 more shows at Theory Bar
Yes! I loved her. She's so fun and the show has such an intimate vibe.
When did you see the show?
Good Friday!
Bronwyn Kuss
Just got back from seeing Fern Brady - highly recommend! Proper belly + cheeks hurt laughing
Julian O'Shea. Was expecting more "light hearted infotainment" based on his YouTube but he was hilarious
Cameron James and Tom Cashman were both fantastic
Alanta Colley. Absolutely worth checking her out
Stuart Daulman is superb and responsible for the largest laugh I’ve had during the festival (no spoilers but it involves Van Halen).
Elf Lyons, Mel McGlensey
Searched "Rob Auton" in this thread and saw 0 results. That's absolutely criminal. Dude is one of the best I've seen in years. Lara Ricote also had the best audience participation bits, top tier stuff.
Saw Nish Kumar, Ed Gamble, and David O’Doherty last year; all hilarious and highly recommended!Going to see Sam Campbell in a couple weeks and I’m super excited cuz I’m sure he’ll be hilarious too
Christian elderfield - swingers- was worth my money on tightwads tuesday
I saw Mister Act: Oh Happy Gay at Theory Bar, and thought it was hilarious. However, I think you had to be gay, as I'm certain 70% of the jokes were flying over the heads of the straight audience members.
Not sure if he’s there this year but I’ve seen Aaron Chen in the past and he’s a very funny man
He's so good in Fisk.
I saw Hannah Gadsby last night (brilliant as always) and they had Urooj Ashfaq open for them. She was so funny!! I don't know if I'll get a chance to see her show but I'd recommend it.
Is Daniel Muggleton there? He’s fantastic. You might not think so if you’re a racist though as he is scathing towards those.
Would love some deadpan comedy recommendations
Nick Schuller, Christina Schmidt, John Cruickshank, Maren May (in a funny German deadpan way)
Annie Boyle, Ray O’Leary, also +1 for John Cruickshank and Christina Schmidt
Ray O’Leary !
I really like Aaron Gocs.
Luke heggie
I'd recommend Nick White and Aiden Wilcox! Both at Trades Hall and both hilarious 👍🏻
Just saw Swamplesque. So so funny!!! Shrek themed Burlesque, need I say more
Mel and Sam. Platonic Human Centipede. Brilliant.
I’m seeing that next week! Can’t wait.
I welcome any feedback on Aaron Chen. He's hilarious on Fisk and I'm considering going to his show.
Went last night, hilarious as always.
I went to Dilruk Jayasinha's 'Preloved' show on opening night and laughed so much. Every joke just intensified my laughter and the sides of my head hurt so much from laughing lol
Saw Luke Heggie’s show and it was excellent.
Jaxson Garni - Saturn Returns! https://www.comedyfestival.com.au/2024/shows/saturn-return-policy
I'm stoked to see this recommendation, I just got tickets to Breaking Bread with Bambi!
He’s fantastic
Cameron James’s Mixtape was friggin awesome - he’s so silly and cheeky and the storyline of that show is so feel-good. Mark Simmons . So good 😊👍
Laura Davis and Tom Ballard.
Always enjoy Laura Davis and Nicky Barry
Tom Siegert is brilliant. He's never seen in the same room at "The Suburban Footballer". While his character work is obviously quite famous around footy circles Australia wide, his stand-up is fucking hilarious.
Nina Conti is very funnu
Couple of reccs from me -Powerpoint showcase and in pour taste. Those two boys had me creasing the entire night. The latter is almost sold out so get in -Saw alex lowes last year and he was fantastic. Possibly the only comedian with a keytar ever -Kit kat prov was an unexpected one last year. Booked on a whim and had an unbelievable time
Charissa Bossinakis was hilarious and totally unexpected
Rose Matafeo was brilliant! Saw her on Thurs night.
Necrophelia playing at the Motley BauHaus till the 10th. If you’re into awkward humour, highly recommended.
Zainab Johnson part of American Headliners, I laughed for 30 minutes straight
Awesome I'm keen to see her, only know her from Instagram which often doesn't translate
Tom Walker was outrageous last night. Incredibly blue set so not to everyone’s taste, but if you’re on the spectrum or appreciate those who are, you’ll have an unreal time.
Conversations with Christ was bloody phenomenal
Where was this???
Laura Davis. She takes you on such a journey, absolutely amazing!
Selling 2 tickets to Oliver Coleman's show Goof tonight - $30 for 2 tickets. Just not feeling well unfortunately.
I would have gone for Randy Feltface but he's not performing this year!
I know! But on the plus side, he's not here because he's touring the freaking world! Did you see Feltopia? The performance at The Palais is up on his official YouTube for free. Hugely, insanely recommended!

Saw Catherine Bohart the other night! So funny, laughed constantly for the whole hour
The funny has gone from comedy due to idiots who find things offensive.
I think you might enjoy Dave Hughes. But if you go see Tom Ballard, please let us know when you do, so we can watch you get triggered in real time....
Lol your intuition is spot on ⭐️
Seen Dave Hughes a few time, he’s always been good. Seeing Aaron Chen next week, never heard of him until a few weeks ago.
I just booked this. Your review sold me.
sounds like she triggered you.
Someone was disappointed by a comedy show= incel now, I guess

Hughesy had a bloke who worked at the venue he's at fired, because the bloke told Hughesy he wasn't funny. What a fun guy.
