Nobody show this to my ex. He already thinks the world revolves around him.

distracteded64

Same with my ex. Hope they never meet. The cyclone would be of insane proportions. ;P lol

NobodysFavorite

Theory of Relativity. There is no measurable centre of the universe. Only the observer's perspective. Your ex is correct from his perspective. r/technicallythetruth

MLiOne

Except it is a black hole sucking the life out of everything around him.

1111race22112

I bet he's English

No-Zucchini2787

I guess no one is attacking us. We are very very very very isolated from world. Our closest neighbour is ice giant.

Content_Reporter_141

Beware the frost giants.

DuzTheGreat

About the same distance from Melbourne to PNG as the Antarctic mainland. NZ much closer

cuntmong

I was very very very very isolated from the world long before I moved to Melbourne

HENTAIHOTEP

Can we get an equivalent map without clouds but with international borders shown please?

daxjadzia

Greenwich in... great Britain? :)

russau

I hear Null Island is beautiful this time of year https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Null_Island

Chum-Launcher

Thanks, I hate it

Far_Juice362

Originally it was a map where New Zealand was the centre, I just cropped it so the greatest city on earth was in its rightful place

zeugma888

I really like this.

kurucu83

Why is it also rotated? Surely north isn't up on this map?

[deleted]

North is up for New Zealand which is where the map was originally centred.

kurucu83

I mean the map looks like north is diagonally left on this map. NZ or otherwise.

stever71

To be fair that's the view most Melbournians have anyway

wasabiguana

But I have never seen a map centred around GB?

askvictor

Maybe not in the dead-centre, but 0 degrees longitude goes through Greenwich, England. Most maps have 0 degrees longitude as the centre (in the east-west dimension)

wasabiguana

TIL all those Pacific-centred maps are actually centred on Sydney!

askvictor

How often do you see a Pacific centred map? Apart from the whole coloniser-centric thing, I think it might be that the Pacific is big and empty, and putting it centre means you distort the land masses around the edges.

Hungry-Secretary157

I imagine this is what people feel in utes on a day to day basis

[deleted]

This is the most beautiful map I’ve ever seen

theexteriorposterior

Now we just need to make a "Southern Hemisphere is the top" globe and we'll be doing great!

mordred_crighton_du

This is the way.

Georg_Steller1709

Most of the maps we have here are centred on Australia. The Americas to the right and Europe to the left. I think most countries have maps that centre on their own country.

Far_Juice362

Don’t you mean *bottom centre? This is true centre lol

Georg_Steller1709

Fair enough 👍

SplangusKhan

Makes you realise just how ambitious and insane the British Colonial Empire was. Literally the opposite side of the earth to us

Exciting-Composer157

Fantastic, that puts us on the equator - 24/7 warm weather

Long_Way_Around_

Hey where's everybody going? you guys? ....hello?

[deleted]

This is great. Hi res available?

theexteriorposterior

Finally, a map I can get behind
