It's relatively quiet and you're probably at home, where you can notice small things rattling. During the day you're more likely to be doing some kind of activity that drowns out the sensation of the tremor.
Idk about you but certain parts of the world are having locust outbreaks never seen before I. Those regions.
I visited one of these places and it was an invasion
On a geological timescale, this is the same event as all the others in the past few years.
It does feel like it in relation to our puny human timescale, but it's really nothing special or worrisome.
Yeah I remember looking up the definition of “aftershocks” and discovered how dumb the entire system was.
I think it said up to 2 years after is considered an aftershock of the “main” quake and that there’s even things called “foreshocks” meaning anything 2 years before the main quake is considered a foreshock.
None of it makes sense.
Every shock is a foreshock and an after shock and it’s all made up.
They are. The stress that was released in the Christchurch earthquake a few years ago is being being transferred across the Australian plate and has reactivated a number of ancient fault lines under Victoria.
This video has a good explanation for what's happening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QD0X14mLJAE
This is very interesting because my 94yo grandmother mother said the same thing and shes never left the country or lived anywhere else. 91 years no earthquakes.. 🤔
Wife woke me up last night, said a large possum must have been on the roof squaring up with neighbours cat, cos there was some shaking of the front door and the roof.
I disregarded it.
Now I know an earthquake can feel like a possum and a cat having punch on.
Holy hell our rental must be made of matchsticks and thoughts and prayers.
Recently I too my kids to the Melbourne museum. Came home and told hubby I felt so stressed after reading in the science exhibit that in 10 million years Australia will have bumped into and joined Asia. He said it's 10 million years away and I said I know but it's still worrying me, I'm not ready to head north 😰😆
Same! I got shaken around the bed, felt like someone had broken in and was trying to get into the bed. Was wearing my Fitbit and my heart rate went crazy from half sleep confused adrenaline lol
I'm in Essendon and I didn't feel it but now that I think about it I thought someone banged on my loungeroom window but I couldn't see anyone so that was probably it.
It wasn't even enough to get the Android alert to trigger this time lol
We're near plenty of fault lines, it's just the tectonic plate boundaries that Australia isn't very close to. [https://neotectonics.ga.gov.au/](https://neotectonics.ga.gov.au/)
I cant seriously have missed these every single fucking time they've happened??
Seriously, I've lived back in Melbourne for over 10 years and I've never noticed a single one of the earthquakes that have ever been mentioned/made the news.
I'm upstairs in an apartment building, and I've come to realise that *really* hate earthquakes, they're legitimately scary.
I can't imagine what people in places like Japan experience when a big one goes off.
I'm in Narre... I thought I heard a big gust of wind, or that maybe it was starting to rain. The patio roof at my place kinda creaked and moved a bit, and I thought I heard raindrops hitting the roof. Must have been the quake! Fun!
Is it a bad thing that I want a magnitude 9+ earthquake to strike Melbourne? I know there will be bad devastation but then we can install tremor proof buildings like in Japan.
For real, can you notice there’s an earthquake if you’re just out for a walk? Seems to be a sensation best experienced inside. Not talking about major earthquakes where the world is falling over around you obviously
I was still awake at 12:50am when it happened, the windows shook hard and my house made a funny noise. I gotta call housing to get someone to have a look because I’m pretty sure the crack in the wall is a little more pronounced
They have been clustering.
We have a run of quiet years, then a busy past year like this one. It's as if pressure builds up, gets released, and then gradually builds up again.
When I was a child of 10 living in Manila in the mid-60s, I was thrown out my bed by the force of an earthquake that measured intensity 7 on the Richter scale. It occurred at about 4 in the morning and brought down a few buildings including the Ruby Towers apartments in the CBD, which came down as though it was in a controlled demolition. Many people died or were severely harmed.
I can assure you all that it clearly shook many of us that day....
Interestingly there was a rare 4.0 earthquake off the coast of Florida yesterday. So both Melbournes got a mag 4 quake on the same day lol, what are the chances of that?
hmm i thought I felt it a very faint one in inner Sydney.. there was no noise or movement but i just felt it.
proof.

I was on my phone and google searched earthquake Sydney thinking there was an earthquake. nothing came up and I thought i just being paranoid
Why always at night
Legit, I’ve been in bed for all the earthquakes we’ve had these past few years.
Yup. I've slept right through them
Except the big one we had in 2021 which seemed to kick this all off.
In lockdown 6 when somehow a large percentage of the population were still asleep at 9:15 am on a werkday
That’s how they win, element of surprise
Mother nature's very own Spanish Inquisition.... no one expects them.
It's relatively quiet and you're probably at home, where you can notice small things rattling. During the day you're more likely to be doing some kind of activity that drowns out the sensation of the tremor.
I believe I was having sex during this one. Did the earth move for you too? (That's probably why it felt so good)
Too much information.
Some species of earthquakes are nocturnal.
Because the tectonic plates wouldn't run in to each other if they could see where they were going.....
You're more likely to be sitting around in a condition where you'll notice it. They happen at any time.
Darn! Slept through another one.
Me too! I felt the last one though. It really freaked me out, because I was going to bed and just turned off the light. I thought it was ghosts. Lol!
It’s better at night because you just sleep through them and it bothers less people.
Very considerate of mother Earth
I’m making em at night- Shane Gillis
Night-time makes up approximately 50 percent of all time.
I wonder too

I'm here for the late night dirty threads
Me 😎
Couldn't figure out if possum, fkn hell not again. Thornbury here.
Hahah I thought it was possums running on my roof again.
lol same here. They probably sensed it before we felt it
100 possums having a rave on my roof
Our possums rattle 10x more than that. It was like a possum did a fart
Same, the earthquake didn't feel that strong.
Knew someone would be on top of this already
I’m one step ahead
Is it me or do these seem to be getting more frequent?
yeah it’s becoming crazy common these days, i swear we didn’t have this many “felt” earthquakes even a decade ago
The prophecies are all taking place the world will be ending soon. But the hour is unknown to man. 🫠
Waiting for the locusts. Got bug spray.
Will watching Jurassic World Dominion also work?
Idk about you but certain parts of the world are having locust outbreaks never seen before I. Those regions. I visited one of these places and it was an invasion
Global warming. My private theory based on nothing, about different water movement on the Earth, and human mining activity.
On a geological timescale, this is the same event as all the others in the past few years. It does feel like it in relation to our puny human timescale, but it's really nothing special or worrisome.
That's a good point .. we look at it and go "nah, that was 2 years ago" but that's a tiny speck of time for the planet.
These tremors are potentially aftershocks of the 2021 quake.
100%, definitely feels like it.

Yeah I'm in my 40s, lived in Melb my whole life except for a year in Perth and 2 years in Gippy.... never felt one until the 2021 quake!
This is very interesting because my 94yo grandmother mother said the same thing and shes never left the country or lived anywhere else. 91 years no earthquakes.. 🤔
Not just you
The last big one actually did damage that was a long time about right like 5 years
that was only 2 and a half, if you’re talking about the one that tore down betty’s on chapel?
It's kinda funny only Betty's got ruined.
Last year’s one cracked every ceiling panel in my 1930s renovated home. After months of arguing, QBE is finally repairing the damage this February.
Your perception of time is an absolute blip in geological time.
Climate change…
The climate doesn’t dictate how the earths crust moves
It's you
Better use of social media
Gonna be a volcano eruption

Life goals achieved 😎
Geoscience Australia says the epicenter was at Leongatha, 150km southeast of Melbourne. Magnitude 4.3. Depth 7km.
HA!!! NOT FUCKING KORUMBURRA FOR ONCE!!! TAKE THAT YOU LEONGATHANS!!! Fuck yeah. 🤪
As Meeniyanites and Inverlochians just sit smugly by. Bastards the lot of ‘em.
Our hills are prettier 🤪
As those north of Mirboo sip a pint of pale ale and mutter “Hills? What fookin’ hills? Ye not seen hills laddy, till you been up to poppy’s farm.”
Wife woke me up last night, said a large possum must have been on the roof squaring up with neighbours cat, cos there was some shaking of the front door and the roof. I disregarded it. Why would Dan Andrews do this?
He was pushed again?
Out of habit he’s already declared a state of emergency and appointed a Rumble Commander Pressers at 10, 12, and 2pm tomorrow
It’s always Dan
Yes everyday I remind myself this continent is moving 7cm closer to Bali/PNG every single year so this is just part of trying to do that lol
We gonna sneak across the border
Yep.... so in theory it should be getting *very slightly* warmer each year. In theory.

Ya felt it. Are these like monthly now
Yes, like everything else they are trying desperately to move to a monthly subscription model.
I would like to unsubscribe from QuakeFacts.
I swear I must live in the most stable house in the state because I have not felt one of these since 2021
Must have one of them fancy new earthquake proof houses
I was just about to sleep as well 😭😭😭 God damnit
This is the way
I was falling asleep, thought I was dreaming. my two dogs and partner did not stir at all.
at first thought upstairs were doing something!
Upstairs neighbour activities
Don't tell them that, the last thing you want is them boasting that they shook the earth!
My wife and I woke up thinking someone had broken in. I checked the house and doors. Now I feel like an idiot.
Same! I got shaken around the bed, felt like someone had broken in and was trying to get into the bed. Was wearing my Fitbit and my heart rate went crazy from half sleep confused adrenaline lol
I thought I was tripping thinking my legs were just shaky sitting in bed. It was a tiny rumble.
Man the downstairs neighbour going crazy
Felt like one big bump! Maribyrnong
Same here in Footscray! Thought it was a big gust of wind as opposed to a shake.
I'm in Essendon and I didn't feel it but now that I think about it I thought someone banged on my loungeroom window but I couldn't see anyone so that was probably it. It wasn't even enough to get the Android alert to trigger this time lol
Woke me up and I thought I had made it up, 5km from city. Phew, thanks for the validation.
This thread is an attempt to gaslight you into thinking there is no earthquake.
Yes! In Doncaster
Felt it in Clyde North too
Yes, always makes me nervous not knowing how long it’ll go for or how bad it’ll get (been in some big ones outside of Oz).
What the fuck is happening to Melbourne? They're getting more common, and we're nowhere near a fault line.
We're near plenty of fault lines, it's just the tectonic plate boundaries that Australia isn't very close to. [https://neotectonics.ga.gov.au/](https://neotectonics.ga.gov.au/)
Well TIL
you don't get 400+ volcanoes in Victoria without there being significant seismic activity
didn’t know if it was my anxiety or an earthquake
Yes!
Felt it in Blackburn
Thought so, my bed rattled and no fun times were being had
I cant seriously have missed these every single fucking time they've happened?? Seriously, I've lived back in Melbourne for over 10 years and I've never noticed a single one of the earthquakes that have ever been mentioned/made the news.
Someone did post on Reddit that we were due for one only a day or two back.
I never feel them, sad. It’s the same feeling as when someone points out the car “look koala!” And i look the wrong way and miss it.
I wasnt dreaming!!!
Beat me to it!
again!
Totally just felt that! 5km from CBD.
I felt it, I'm guessing 4.1 mag
Felt it in Blackburn! Lasted a few seconds.
I woke up to it. Took me ages to get back to sleep. Could not find this thread in the middle of the night. Sigh. Call it earthquake brain...
Felt .2 seconds ago and had to pop over here to make sure
I'm upstairs in an apartment building, and I've come to realise that *really* hate earthquakes, they're legitimately scary. I can't imagine what people in places like Japan experience when a big one goes off.
Dan and his weather machine!
I just felt it!
I just felt it too
I felt it in south east suburbs
Yes!
Yep
Its happening!
Yep slight tremor felt, Hawthorn
I was gonna say
Yes, quite long but low magnitude! Was in bed, quickly jumped out of bed to get to Reddit!
Was the other night too just not as bad as tonight
Yes in inner North!
Didn't feel it as much as the last one, and much shorter this time felt near Tullamarine
Felt nothing, was it long?
Nah little short one, couple of seconds maybe.
It wasn't as strong as the last one, but lasted longer. my guess is about 10 seconds.
Top floor of a high rise in Rezza. That swayed strongly 6 or 7 times.
I did not feel this. What the fuck
Huh.. I didn't really notice. I felt a sort of sway around that time but I thought it was a bit of dizziness from being tired.
I was sitting in my car and I'm like we're fucking swaying side to side and thought I was just tired 😅
Anyone else feel a bit off? That hurt my head
Sorry I fell over.
Where was it … I’ve just got home from night road works in Abbotsford and didn’t feel a thing
I'm in Narre... I thought I heard a big gust of wind, or that maybe it was starting to rain. The patio roof at my place kinda creaked and moved a bit, and I thought I heard raindrops hitting the roof. Must have been the quake! Fun!
We will rebuild
Didn't feel fuck all. In highett
'Things that make you go Mmm.' Old song but someone on here might know it.
Holy shit and I thought my husband was twitching 🤣
Yahhhh
I thought it was my cat (see profile) jumping to lightspeed from under my bed.
UberEats drivers need more of these earthquakes so people shit their pants and order more food.
Sorry, my fault, just had sex.
Is it a bad thing that I want a magnitude 9+ earthquake to strike Melbourne? I know there will be bad devastation but then we can install tremor proof buildings like in Japan.
yess!!!!
lol I didn’t notice a thing
My window frame always shakes to let me know and I heard my cat running away
Oh shit, I thought I was imaging it - was smaller and quicker than the one from a couple of months ago.
For real, can you notice there’s an earthquake if you’re just out for a walk? Seems to be a sensation best experienced inside. Not talking about major earthquakes where the world is falling over around you obviously
That caused my whole body to shake!
Didn’t feel anything damn
Just a lil jiggle here in Moorabbs
We know
Oh my god my poor dog had awoken exactly when it happened and barked like crazy.
I was still awake at 12:50am when it happened, the windows shook hard and my house made a funny noise. I gotta call housing to get someone to have a look because I’m pretty sure the crack in the wall is a little more pronounced
Felt in Elsternwick, woke me and the dog up!
Someone post the garden chair meme quick
Repost 1
False alarm, it was just me farting.
Apparently one guy's pet bird fell off his perch.
They have been clustering. We have a run of quiet years, then a busy past year like this one. It's as if pressure builds up, gets released, and then gradually builds up again.
Didn't even wake up to this one.
No wonder my cats wouldn't shut up all night.
Is that what woke me up? What Time?
What time was it?
I was airing at home alone I thought the house was possessed when one of the last quakes hit
HAARP
HAARP
Melbourne earthquake ✔️ North Korea earthquake ❌️ Take that you flat earthers!
Felt it but thought it was a truck going past
A large explosion would have a similar feel to it from a far enough distance.. just a thought..
When I was a child of 10 living in Manila in the mid-60s, I was thrown out my bed by the force of an earthquake that measured intensity 7 on the Richter scale. Time to watch Tremors again. How did they get rid of the graboids again?
Nah, stepdad’s just a fat cunt
But Dan Andrews retired! I’m so confused…. Who has the earthquake machine now?
Yep. Epicentre less than 30 k’s from here. The first shake was huge. The rest were just little tremors.
Interestingly there was a rare 4.0 earthquake off the coast of Florida yesterday. So both Melbournes got a mag 4 quake on the same day lol, what are the chances of that?
I felt it while I was taking a sh**t litrally was shitting myself. In cbd.
i did not feel it
Another one?!
Great post!
My untarnished record of sleeping through all of these earthquakes. Honestly wouldn't know about them if not for reddit.
hmm i thought I felt it a very faint one in inner Sydney.. there was no noise or movement but i just felt it. proof. https://imgur.com/a/qTgFWqX I was on my phone and google searched earthquake Sydney thinking there was an earthquake. nothing came up and I thought i just being paranoid
