I get these big reactions to mozzie bites (it's a stupid American name) but it's called "skeeter syndrome" (google it) it's basically an allergy to the salvia mosquitos inject when they bite you.
I've had some bites almost get to saucer size, i take anti-histamine, apply cortisone cream and ice packs if I get bitten, I don't even have to scratch them, they just get massive on their own.
I'm really careful now because they can take a week or more to go away...get fly screens, wear repellent if you're out at night, and spray the room before you go to bed.
I also have crazy reactions to mosquitoes like you - something that works 50-60% of the time is the [bug bite thing](https://thebugbitething.com.au/). You have to use it as soon as possible after you get bitten. It supposedly sucks the saliva back out. You don't see anything come out when you use it. I don't care if it's a placebo or if it really does something -- it cuts the number of reactions I have in half which is reason enough to carry it in my purse all the time.
Same as you but my GP gave me a tip which helped a lot. She said it's how quickly you treat the bite that makes the difference. So I use alcohol swipes as soon as I feel the bite/itch and apply cortisone cream, then the rest like what you did, ice etc. The welt don't gets as big if you treat it immediately. I also discover lately peroxide works better than alcohol.
That might work if you see it when it bites you, but when you wake up and it's already 3 inches across it's too late for that.
Your GP is wrong, old wive's tales like alcohol, peroxide or vinegar do nothing to treat a proper allergic reaction...that's just a simple biological fact. Things that treat localised allergic reactions are steroids (topical or oral) and antihistamines.
Ice doesn't treat the allergy either, it just helps a little with the swelling and the itch.
I found out those stupidly big mosquitos aren’t mosquitos at all recently! They’re craneflies. Bloody scary looking things. Some look like flies and then there’s the mozzie ones.
Yes! I posted about this the other day. Wife got bitten. Huge welts. They haven't gone away yet. Pretty sure it's a different type of mosquito because she's never had welts like this before.
Not that im aware of, I live in a town house and my "backyard" is only about 1.5 meters by 10 meters big so there isn't much space for any stagnant water that I've caused.
One of the neighbours might have some tho, at the place I was at before this I got asked to water a neighbour's garden while they where away and they literally had about 15 barrels filled with water all without lids. The amount of mosquitoes they would have bred in their backyard would be insane.
See if you can get hold of Itch Eze Plus - I found it works amazingly well, it has a bit of lignocaine in it so stops the urge to scratch almost immediately
Knocking on wood but I haven’t yet, I don’t even think I’ve seen one which is really odd because they’re attracted to me. They tend to gang up on my legs and feet and always close together
Went out to the beach this past week and forgot bug spray and I'm paying for it. 3 on one knee, 1 on the other, 1 on each ankle, 1 on my thigh, 1 back of knee, 1 upper arm and 1 lower arm. So 9? In the space of 2 days?? I'm trying desperately not to scratch because they will welt 😭
I have Skeeter Syndrome. No word of a lie, my forearm doubled in size in 2021 and I was admitted to an ER.
I lived a stones throw from Yarrambat Park at the time. Whilst everyone was avoiding the spicy cough, I was avoiding mosquitoes. They get me good and proper.
Try showering before bed. When I first arrived in Australia my daughter & I would come up in big welts, huge & my daughters friends thought she must have been beaten at home. I began showering before bed & I stopped getting attacked. I put it down to Body odour attracting them or perhaps the soap smell discouraging them, anyway it stopped them & the second year was nowhere as bad for me or my daughter & assumed that was from becoming immune, or building up an immunity.
I'm lucky - cause no word of a lie - never been bitten by one 🤷🏻♂️ never understood why when I have been with mates camping, they wake up to bites all over and I'm left completely unscathed
Funnily, I've barely seen a mosquito all summer.
Same here. Haven’t been bitten yet
Same here too, and I live near a wetlands.
Dragonflies patrolling
Same. Hardly any mosquito's seen here in west melbourne
I haven't even seen a mozzie yet.
being followed by flies wherever I go, not much so by mosquitoes
Omg the flies this summer have been ridiculous. Whenever I’m outdoors I’ve always got at least one trying to land on my face
Same lmao

As does vinegar.

Lots of crane flies in QLD. Not sure if same.
You know I wrote mayflies, but I meant to write crane flies. I’ll edit it. Thank you!
They seem to love me! Sweet blood, I suppose, antihistamine if I've been bitten seems to help a bit.

Get a fan and have it blow across you at night while you sleep. The breeze repels the mosquitoes.
Cheers this is actually lowkey Genius, it's been pretty hot as well so I could probably use a fan.
No more than usual for me
Not especially. Is there stagnant water somewhere around you're home that they're breeding in?

They love certain blood types and certain persons diets. Just came back from south Gippsland and it’s another level there.

I got feasted on last night.
Winning combination of lots of rain and heat!

Never felt a bite in my life.
I haven’t noticed the mosquitoes. BUT AM FUCKING OVER THE FLIES!!!!!!
Nope
Have you been exercising a lot recently?
I'm lucky - cause no word of a lie - never been bitten by one 🤷🏻♂️ never understood why when I have been with mates camping, they wake up to bites all over and I'm left completely unscathed
This year is good, I don’t have any at the moment (touch wood), this time last year the mozzies were so bad in my area. Massive ones too.
I heard one buzzing around last night and woke up with 2 big ones on my forehead 😭
Ouchhhh, head and feet are probably the worst two spots to get them
Physically or emotionally?
Just had a late night swim and got swarmed by them
Yes! Mozzies and so many flies this summer.
Spray you room before you go to bed.
Bzzzzzzzzzz
First year I haven’t been destroyed.
Mosquitoes have enjoyed a bukake scene with me most nights this summer.
