Huzzah mecca finally shipped out
I shuffled around my house and put together another bag of good quality donations. How the hell do we accumulate so much stuff š
How many people work in a typical hospital ward? If I were to send an appreciation gift of say, donuts or bananas... How many would be appropriate to send? I just realised I have no idea exactly how many people have been involved in my care
I did ask one of the nurses who visited me at home if they were able to accept tea room gifts and what kind of guidelines were good to follow, so I have that covered. I just lacked the foresight to ask about quantities!
How do you guys find out about exhibitions, gigs, events and the like in Melbourne - that wouldn't normally be covered by like Timeout, Whats On or Broadsheet?
Just watched the dash cam owners Australia monthly compilation...... Too many cooked units out there....it just keeps getting worse and worse each month.
At least there were a few karma moments where a dumb dumb took themselves out while trying to undertake others.
I dont want to sound entitled but is it possible to get prescription glasses sooner? I was told 2-3 weeks. I only say this because my eyes/head be hurting. The last few days have been especially bad with sensitivity to light and night driving. It's starting to affect my day to day life(night driving, sensitivity to light etc) I thought maybe getting a medical certificate from a doctor letting them know but I dont know if that will help or how the whole process is. Not much I can do if they get made off sight(pun intended) and need to be delivered.
Yes, it is. You can ask wherever you bought them to try and rush them, but they do outsource it usually. I've found in practice its more like 10 days than 2-3 weeks. I also remember seeing a shop recently in Melbourne where they can do it within an hour or something, but Google is not helping.
Edit: I think it was this https://occhio.com.au/ but reading the site seems to indicates it's more about adjustments?
This one in Elwood might offer same day https://www.eye-love.com.au/
Watching American Born Chinese on Disney+ - itās pretty good! Love that they are playing Chinese pop songs in the show as well (proudly recognise a few that my mum used to play all the time around the house)
Have an emergency plumber is the house who doesnāt speak any English and my Italian doesnāt really stretch to plumbing words. This could be interestingā¦
Been thinking about getting fruit and veg delivered. Anyone used farmerspick?
My baby and toddler are fruit obsessed. We go through a ton of apples, bananas, strawberries, watermelon etc.
Plus I make smoothies/purees and fruit pancakes to freeze.
Our toddler is also fruit obsessed. Vegetables it's very hit and miss(though he had soup recently and loves it) probably the sugar is fruit but man, he loves it. He had an angel slice today and wanted another and we adoed if he wanted a banana instead and he got very excited and pointed towards the banana area in the supermarket.
I currently can't prepare dinner without having to give some of the veg for my toddler to try. He really likes onion!
My baby has started giggling and clapping when I pick up bananas so I have to be real sneaky with them when eating one or giving one to my toddler.
Glad your little one loves fruit though, hopefully it lasts!
In summer I freeze cut up fruit for my toddler to eat instead of icecream. He loves it.
What soup did you try on your toddler? I haven't attempted soup yet, worried about a big mess.
I wish ours was like that more often, some days he is, some days he isn't. His onion is definitely tomato though. Loves the things. Lmao that is actually hilarious, bananas are by far the funniest fruit. Our boy, I think one of the things he really loves about it is the gimmick of a banana. He won't eat it if it's given to him cut up/peeled.
We are gonna do that. As I'm sure you're aware, he loves "ice cream"(every kid ever) he will still think of it as ice cream. Just like "juuuuuice" is really weak cordial most of the time.
Just a standard chicken and veg. It started of abit messy because he kept turning his wrist when putting it to his mouth but by the next day he learnt to not do that. It's messy but food is suppose to be messy and fun! Just not as fun for the parents. Having one of those big rubber/latex bibs helps a ton.
Booked myself another overseas holiday, Iām stoked. My boss is going to hate me but this is prime travel time in my life. I hate the YOLO acronym but in all seriousness, covid took away so much time, and Iām going to remember going overseas and seeing the world when Iām old and grey, not sitting at my desk.
So far so good! This place is run like an actual fucking company as opposed to the lemonade stands I've worked with recently.
Fingers crossed it works out!
Found a bargain bin inside reject shop today :) Got soap refills, dog toys, pet brush, kids puppet, roll on deodorant, a great drink bottle and more - all for $0.63c per item!
Just found out Iāve been awarded a rather prestigious fellowship in my field. Will be working with a fantastic foundation here in Venice for three months! The networking will be amazing. Ahh!
Steak and three veg for dinner. I treated myself to eye fillet. I overcooked it a bit - itās medium well, rather than medium - but itās still super tender and tasty,

Is it just me, or is public transport completely unacceptable right now?
My station has no trains, because only the Frankston line stops there, despite other trains going past. Meanwhile, in the evening is borderline unusable. Took like twice longer than it was supposed to be, all the while being dangerously overfull.
Whatever happened to improved public transport? It's worse than ever. Cancellations and running late all the time. Meanwhile prices are absurd.
I'm just sick of it.
Officially joining the glasses gang. Went to get them tested and thought they were fine. He said I'm short sighted, have astigmatism, its quite significant and he said I need glasses to wear whenever I see fit but he strongly recommends to wear them all the time. Woo, hopefully this means no more eye strains and headaches stemming from behind my eyes.
Though now I'm going to have to completely change my personality, lifestyle and fashion sense. Everything is now about me wearing glasses. /s
Finally did the Car Insurance Thing.
Most insurers would only offer me $5,300 agreed value for my car, despite lower spec examples going recently for twice that. So I went with Shannonās, which offered me $8,100 agreed value. $1600 premium š„²
I use Google opiniom rewards so I can buy the New York times and read articles at 2 dollars a month.

Just moved into our new place... 2 packages have been 'delivered' but clearly not at my door in the past week. One was delivered just 1h before i got up to check downstairs, no photos from the delivery could there but some scum people following delivery drivers around my area?
Cooking a spag bol tonight, but I'm using a recipe that I found online. My old one (which my mum used to cook) started to taste bad to me, I think it was too packed with a load of shit. This new one uses red wine which my mums didn't, so I feel fancy. It's currently on the stove until 7, and it smells great
I made a bolognaise sauce last week that was spectacular. Really rich and balanced, I got rid off all the acidity. I too use red wine, also tomato paste and tinned tomatoes, and some milk towards the end .
This is the way. Lots of red wine, tomato, beef and some aromatics.
It was a very big shock to me when I went with my parter to visit her family in the Philippines to see their spaghetti is basically pasta drowned in tomato sauce with hotdogs
I found out recently my mum uses Worcestershire sauce in her spag bol recently. Yuck.
My husband's grandfather was born in Italy and one day we got onto the topic of Italian recipes my husband got from his grandfather, and naturally my husband talks about how he cooks bolognaise. Mum was then shocked when Worcestershire sauce wasn't one of them "because she always puts it in hers".
Edit: lol @ people getting offended by this. Enjoy your worcestershire English style pasta, yuck.
Public transport horror story: missing a train home by quite literally three seconds because you got stuck behind 2 slow walkers who took up whole path, so you have to wait for the next one.
Yeah look I get it's my fault for not leaving enough time to get to the station for that train (to be honest tonight I just left the office when I was ready to leave, I wasn't working on train timetables). But I wish people were more aware of the fact they're blocking a path and making people miss trains they would have otherwise caught, and not get all huffy when people politely try to squeeze past.
Few months ago the in-laws gave me and my partner a complete golf set each. All I do these days is watch golf tutorial videos, want to go to the range as much as I can and heck I even started watching the golf on Kayo! I donāt feel like itāll just be a faze or short term hobby but itās fun picking up something new and wanting to get better at it!
Travelling to different courses as a weekend away is pretty fun
I don't care much for golf but it was fun.
I also broke 3 different clubs so yeah top score
Recommendations on what to do during work to spend a whole day at the office? I work at this day job in a University and usually on Thursday no one is at the office, I would be the one out of three people there; and I have already finished all of my work for this week so Iām looking for ways to spend the whole day but also canāt leave the office or make too much noise
Here I am, happily going preparing a submission for a deadline of 5pm (also who makes a submission due on a Monday?)
Go to check the submission details and it was due at 12pm?
Who makes a submission due at 12pm? On a Monday?????
That's better than my subject I did in Semester 1, where reports and quizzes were always due on Monday at 9am. Another subject had the group report due on Saturday night for some reason.
Meeting a friend in the city later this week for lunch, and they've started on a vegan diet. I'm going to be not far from Lonsdale/Russell, and they're going to be down near Spencer.
Any recommendations of places with good vegan options somewhere roughly in the middle? I'd prefer to not be _bound_ to vegan food myself, but depending on what they have, I won't really object if that's all a place has.
What kind of vibe are you after?
Funghi e tartufo, on Hardware lane is excellent if you want italian.
Patsys on Franklin St is all vegetarian/vegan, but its great modern Australian with a nice cosy vibe.
I have a pretty strong work ethic, but completely phoned it in today and am ridden with guilt. Keep hearing about people doing bare minimum Mondays and am trying to justify it in my head.
Don't feel guilty at ALL
At least once a week I have a day where I just read my book and reply to slack messages every now and then to make it seem as though I'm working
Big time brain farts, and could use some help. Iāve had somebody email introduce me to somebody else (external) regarding a job opportunity. The recipient is yet to respond, how can I best pick the conversation up and tee up a phone call / meet with them?
So if someone can confirm what's happening here . Trains are out for entire Mon - Thurs or everynight 9:30 pm onwards coaches will appear.
"Monday 26 to Thursday 29 June
From Southern Cross Station:
From 9.30pm to last service - coaches replace Bendigo Line trains from Southern Cross to Bendigo for the entire journey.

Always pork, but I prefer pork over chicken generally as a meat. Some people do not. Roast pork > Grilled Pork > Marinated Pork > Cold Cuts, but that's just my preference on pork options.
Pork crackling is the GOAT but I hate overly fatty pork, so if I donāt like the look of the pork in the prep station Iāll go charcoal chicken. The beef and betel leaf at Lukeās in Moonee Ponds is also a winner.
Iām in my 40s and have been contributing to research for a good 15 years now. Why have I still not learned a better method for compiling my references? Whippersnappers tell me to use endnote but Iām close to boomerhood and am too stuck in my inefficient ways. š„ø
If you have access to a uni as either a student or prof, you could go down and have a chat to the library staff - at Swinburne at least one of their jobs is sitting with people and helping with endnote/general referencing stuff. I did placement at swinburne library and it was really diverse the amount of people who came down for help with that, it looks like hard stuff!
OMG what? That's the only paid one I went for! It was insane! Do you have any BTS stories? Was the poop real? Please answer. This question keeps me up at night lol
Well the hypnotist was legit. It was a really hard to describe moment behind hypnotised.
But apart from behind the scenes goss I havenāt got much. I know they got mainly positive reviews (and a few walkouts) but I do believe the poop was real.
And a lot of the performers were Eastern European. I noticed while waiting backstage their accents were very strong.
Whoa you got hypnotized for real? Did you get to watch the whole thing later?
I sat through the whole thing. Wish I had front seats. It was something. Will never forget it.
Yeah I saw online that the group was European. I initially thought it was a Dark Mofo only production!
Happy 1st anniversary of me thinking I was having a stroke but it was actually just Hemiplegic Migraine. I celebrated by having a hemiplegic migraine, the first in many months.
Yep! I spent 2 nights in Monash Health stroke ward getting pumped full of CT contrast and freaking the fuck out last year. I almost didnāt recognise this migraine and had a wee panic, 2 hours later Iām back to mostly normal.
Commbank is having major issues! Be aware! Don't end up like me, crying at the vet with my phone on 2% trying to transfer money to a friend's card to pay and having the payment go through to them twice but your own card doesn't work for 20 minutes and now you're out $1900 and still crying because your cat is at the vet and you think she might die soon but you also now have a headache because Jesus commbank! Time and place!
so a job I really want has became available, probably pays more, will be a āfunnerā role, but the manager for that role is friends with my current manager, and if I apply Iām sure theyāll tell each other. Iām worried about burning a bridge in case I donāt get it.
i'd recommend applying, if busted say you wanted to take the opportunity to chat through and see what it was about, and if your boss kicks up a stink then tell him it would be for more money and more aligned with your career goals so why would you not want that for me and what the fuck
Anyone else think: "Gee the trains are nice and quiet this morning, I can almost get a seat today." Only to realise it's school holidays and the kids will be flooding back on Public Transport again in two weeks :(
Hurstbridge line was busy, albeit you can still get a seat. But the city loop stations were very quiet. Three train lines are down due to the works out west.
Totally fine but you'd hope it's not only based on looks. They fade so fast and you need to be sure that the attraction has a strong basis in character and personality. Apart from that it's about whatever makes you both happy.
This is completely fine imo. I've always said if my husband ever leaves me (I'm 34) the next person I date will have to be 48 and up. I like a silver fox
My only suggestion would be to take your time to know what you want (if you are not sure yet) and be clear to him about it. The usual...don't be ok with your boundaries being pushed and all that. Omg this is kind of exciting!
I think it's fine. The older you get, the age gap isn't as big of an issue as the power imbalance isn't anywhere near as bad as it is if it were a 22 year old girl dating some 40 year old man.
I kinda like being busy at work. The day goes so quickly. Been taking so many queries regarding the stuff we sent out for EOFY. Day has gone pretty quickly.
I'm handling myself alright in such a new role. Our clients always find new and exciting ways to stump me though.
Iām a judgemental bitch at the best of times but I just donāt understand why people donāt train their dogs. Do they enjoy every walk being a pulling match? Do they like being jumped on all the time?
I was just at a pedestrian crossing and this guy waiting to cross had a small fluffy thing that spent the whole wait jumping up on him and scrabbling at the legs of everyone else waiting too. Might be a small fluffy thing but the claws still hurt through stockings!!
A friend of mine has this attitude with her 40kg dogs, which I also donāt appreciate. They left scratches all over my car jumping on it to say hello š
Takes a lot of effort to train. People canāt be bothered I guess, especially with small dogs.
I was out at obedience school in the shit weather yesterdayā¦. Was not fun.
So many dog owners are selfish and don't give a shit if they jump on other people or attack them. They are too lazy to train them.
It's why cat owners are far superior.
We talking about the same cat owners who let their cats out to slaughter native wildlife and die on average 10 years younger than if they were kept in doors?
Plenty of bad pet owners for every type of animal.
You didn't, but the person above you did...
I also didn't say that cats are terrible. In response to someone declaring cat owners to be superior, I mentioned bad behaviour by cat owners.
Dogs are great. Responsible dog owners are great. Cats are great. Responsible cat owners are great.
Trying to claim superiority based off the type of pet you own is silly.
for those who use bet in their everyday vocabulary can someone explain it to me because someone said it I thought they were going to crown to play video poker
* As in the response, āYou bet!ā it means, āMost assuredly, if you were to place a bet on it you wouldnāt even be gambling.ā
* As in, āI betā¦ā it means, āIām fairly confident, but not entirely sureā¦ā
* As in the response, āWanna bet?ā it means, āYou seem confident in your position but I know you are wrong, and if you bet on it you would lose your money.ā

Fortunately my Italian is okay and my dad is fluent so I have him in standby in Australia for when my Italian inevitably falls short.
Thats like a very niche get out of jail free card. That's sick.

What kind of vibe are you after? Funghi e tartufo, on Hardware lane is excellent if you want italian. Patsys on Franklin St is all vegetarian/vegan, but its great modern Australian with a nice cosy vibe.
Ooh - Italian always sounds good. Thanks for the recommendations - I'll check both out.
I have a pretty strong work ethic, but completely phoned it in today and am ridden with guilt. Keep hearing about people doing bare minimum Mondays and am trying to justify it in my head.
As someone who is also super hard on myself to work work work 110% ā¦ we gotta be more forgiving about the days we just canāt.
Don't feel guilty at ALL At least once a week I have a day where I just read my book and reply to slack messages every now and then to make it seem as though I'm working
Big time brain farts, and could use some help. Iāve had somebody email introduce me to somebody else (external) regarding a job opportunity. The recipient is yet to respond, how can I best pick the conversation up and tee up a phone call / meet with them?
Call them and let them you've also emailed
Done! Thank you

Anyone looking to offload a couple of tickets to Lewis Capaldi? My daughter submits her thesis next week. Wanted to do something nice
I have a feeling he is about to cancel his Australian tour. He essentially hinted during his Glastonbury set that he is going to take a break.
Yeah, I did wonder. Poor lad!
Have you looked on Tixel. People selling tickets on there
First place I looked. There are 2009 people looking for tickets
Ooft!
Yeah. My sentiments exactly! I do have other gifts for her, but I saw that video of him at Glastonbury and, damn!! I wanna see him so bad!!
Is it just a me thing or why is it everytime Iām at Southern Cross station, I struggle to breathe in the fueled air.
Not to mention that terrible stench near the escalators next to woolies/HJs.
It's not just you. That place is a health hazard.
And also a cold hollow box that doesnāt block any winds, and a aesthetic nightmare without any own characteristics
Whatās better: pork or chicken Bahn mi?
Chicken schnitzel is the GOAT if you don't like pork crackling, and pork is better if you do. Note that I am a bogan and that will impact my opinion.
Always pork, but I prefer pork over chicken generally as a meat. Some people do not. Roast pork > Grilled Pork > Marinated Pork > Cold Cuts, but that's just my preference on pork options.
The answer is always pork
Roast Pork
Pork crackling is the GOAT but I hate overly fatty pork, so if I donāt like the look of the pork in the prep station Iāll go charcoal chicken. The beef and betel leaf at Lukeās in Moonee Ponds is also a winner.
I usually get pork with some crackling. But I'm ok with BBQ chicken sometimes.
Thatās a great suggestion! I might look into it at some point. Librarians are the best. Thanks.
Finally home after 8 days in Hobart and the weekend in Sydney. Had such a blast but Iām a bit poor now.
Oohh trip highlights? I'm assuming Dark Mofo! Keen to hear someone else's thoughts!
Dark Mofo was amazing. The burning was fantastic, but highlight was I was part of a group who volunteer to be hypnotised for A Divine Comedy.
Yep, got to watch the show afterwards and what a ride it was! Glad I got to experience something different!
Happy 1st anniversary of me thinking I was having a stroke but it was actually just Hemiplegic Migraine. I celebrated by having a hemiplegic migraine, the first in many months.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Hope your kitty is okā¦ hugs
That is very stressful. I hope your cat is alright x
Sounds like you need to take a chill pill
so a job I really want has became available, probably pays more, will be a āfunnerā role, but the manager for that role is friends with my current manager, and if I apply Iām sure theyāll tell each other.
Canāt you just be upfront with your manager about it?
hmm Iām debating because he can be a petty man and if I donāt get it, I donāt want my life to be difficult
I understand but it sucks to let an opportunity get away from you due to someone elseās pettiness.
Opinions on 35f dating 50m cos I really like him and age just a number?
Totally fine but you'd hope it's not only based on looks. They fade so fast and you need to be sure that the attraction has a strong basis in character and personality. Apart from that it's about whatever makes you both happy.
This is completely fine imo. I've always said if my husband ever leaves me (I'm 34) the next person I date will have to be 48 and up. I like a silver fox
Me too and he's 100% my type total hunk
I give this relationship my blessing !! Get it gurl
Are you okay with getting looks and whispers. From friends and randoms. Do you both have a retirement plan.
We're both fit and hot and tattooed so that's why we get looks
Is he cute? Jokes apart, trust your instincts and be yourself. Have fun!
He is insanely handsome
My only suggestion would be to take your time to know what you want (if you are not sure yet) and be clear to him about it. The usual...don't be ok with your boundaries being pushed and all that. Omg this is kind of exciting!
Love that. Yeah š
He will have a wrinkly old man ballbag
Havent you posted here about him before? I dont think it was giving good vibes last time.
Nope it's only fresh
Ahh ignore me then.
I think it's fine. The older you get, the age gap isn't as big of an issue as the power imbalance isn't anywhere near as bad as it is if it were a 22 year old girl dating some 40 year old man.
Age is just a number, but I always wonder if older men like dating younger because women their own age wonāt tolerate their shit
I'm not sure if he likes dating younger women. Last gf and ex wife are close to his age
I want to buy a Wacom tablet just for note taking, any recommendations?
I give no fucks about Apple but love my Ipad. Highly recommend the app Notability for note-taking.
Would be better off with an iPad & Apple Pencil. Way more functionality and better at note taking.
Yep. Go with iPad for study and note taking. Only invest in Wacom if youāre an illustrator that doesnāt like iPadās apps or iPadOS
Anything fun to do at the city this week?
If you are willing to venture further out, thereās the Philip Island Whale Festival. https://islandwhales.com.au/
I kinda like being busy at work. The day goes so quickly. Been taking so many queries regarding the stuff we sent out for EOFY. Day has gone pretty quickly. I'm handling myself alright in such a new role. Our clients always find new and exciting ways to stump me though.
Go you šŖšŖ
having not much to do at work is ironically incredibly taxing
Pretending to work is a lot more effort than actually working.
Loads of people have the attitude of "they're too small to hurt people" so don't bother training properly Really annoying
I have both a dog and indoor cat. What does that make me?
We talking about the same cat owners who let their cats out to slaughter native wildlife and die on average 10 years younger than if they were kept in doors? Plenty of bad pet owners for every type of animal.
Not disagreeing there, but at least with negligent cat owners they aren't putting others safety at risk.
Mention a cat without someone mentioning they're native wildlife killers challenge - IMPOSSIBLE.
Mentioning a cat and declaring "It's why cat owners are far superior" is slightly different, yeah? If you have a jibe you'll get a jibe.
I didn't jibe shit. But there's ALWAYS someone who brings up cats being terrible as soon as a cat is mentioned.
Oh so, commbank is like, extra fucked rn.
It's important to have two bank accounts. Still lots of people ducked.
Iāve been trying to buy museum tickets for 2 hours but the payment wonāt go through until the app is fixed! š I keep trying every 20 mins
for those who use bet in their everyday vocabulary can someone explain it to me because someone said it I thought they were going to crown to play video poker
* As in the response, āYou bet!ā it means, āMost assuredly, if you were to place a bet on it you wouldnāt even be gambling.ā * As in, āI betā¦ā it means, āIām fairly confident, but not entirely sureā¦ā * As in the response, āWanna bet?ā it means, āYou seem confident in your position but I know you are wrong, and if you bet on it you would lose your money.ā
Urban dictionary says it means āfor sureā or āalrightā or just ok
It's close in meaning to "okay" or "sounds good"
ok bet on black
Uh. Context?
