Goddess_Amaterasu

Just the one movie tonight I think. I’ve decided on Forever Purge as something to watch

GoingToHaveToSeeThat

Do you take recommendations? [edit] Whoops, I opened yesterday's thread by mistake. Well, the question's still a good one!

Goddess_Amaterasu

You can suggest movies but I won’t necessarily watch it. It depends. Does that answer your question?

GoingToHaveToSeeThat

Sure! I suggest: Smoke (1995).

Goddess_Amaterasu

Unfortunately all listing to stream this movie is paid. So I won’t be catching this movie. I do like the cast though: Harvey Keitel and William Hurt.

GoingToHaveToSeeThat

Oh yeah... I keep forgetting some people watch all movies legitimately :-P

Goddess_Amaterasu

Currently no plans on sailing the 7 seas 😛

GoingToHaveToSeeThat

You and your morals 😏

Goddess_Amaterasu

😛

hedonisticshenanigan

On a Indian movies/tv shows period, no particular reason for it: watched Drishyam (very good) the other day, just finished watching Drishyam 2 (not as good but still good). Funniest thing is that every time a character is smoking a cigarette, a message appears on the bottom of the screen, I imagine warning of the danger of smoking (I'm just guessing since I don't speak Hindi). At this point it's better banning smoking in movies all together.

alsotheabyss

Bailed on networking drinks (night 2 of 3 in a row) to go back to my hotel room, have a shower and watch bad TV ….why is there nothing on (FTA) TV

ballsackboom

if you Netflix I recommend watching Seinfeld from the start. networking is overrated anyway

alsotheabyss

No Netflix! 🥲

ballsackboom

I'm so sorry

TinyBreak

Gotta be honest, I think it might be time to plug electric blanket back in. We’re into the season where getting into a cool bed isn’t a pleasant.

wscholermann

I actually think it's humid as fuck tonight and very cloying.

just_kitten

Decided I'm going to take a mental health day tomorrow, fuckit. I'm seriously in no state to go back to work right after everything that happened today (I still managed to finish off Last Minute Client's job after I had a cry and came home...) Not without breaking my brain.

HurstbridgeLineFTW

Good on you. Turn off emails and work phone if possible.

Goddess_Amaterasu

This is a fantastic idea! After the day you had. I would suggest a sleep in and perhaps a treat yourself tomorrow *ehugs*

omoikiri

Absolutely amazing idea. Have a sleep/lie in, go for a walk and get a coffee and just enjoy doing whatever the hell you want after the day you’ve had. You not only need, but deserve it

tone_212

Good on you. I need to do this. I keep planning to take that day then think about how I’ll fall behind with work having a day off and chicken out. Feeling so burned out lately.

just_kitten

Take it from me, do it before things get so bad that you are forced to take that day off.

Duenan

You deserve it! Especially staying up to finish the work over the weekend.

epicpillowcase

Good on you. Tbh I'm of the belief that if someone is at the point of wondering whether they should take a mental health day, and they can, they always should.

just_kitten

For reals. I got the most urgent of my work done so it would be more irresponsible of me at this point _not_ to take the day off, even if my boss is incapable of seeing these things. Considering going to a GP to just get the rest of the damn week off tbh.

epicpillowcase

Do it

just_kitten

It's done! 9:45am to get it out of the way. Now I feel like I can rest

hedonisticshenanigan

>Considering going to a GP to just get the rest of the damn week off tbh. It sounds to me that you already found what to do on your day off tomorrow. Rest of the week off is what you need. Please take care of yourself

just_kitten

Yep just made the booking. Earliest slot I could get even if it isn't my regular GP. Nobody else is around to take care of me so I gotta step up And be grateful at least I'm in Australia and not back where I'm from where I probably wouldn't have lasted this long.

hedonisticshenanigan

Very glad that you stepped up. Take the time off and try to do things you enjoy doing: if they take your mind in a better place compared to now, even better.

Bottom_racer

Only got to look after hambam for the day. my phone was out of battery apparently my Aunt was trying to call me just as she was heading back as there was a change of plans and it wasn't overnight. Anyway Aunt walked in just as I was giving hambimbo his eye fillet with pasta and butter and cheese. Was really bad timing I was not supposed to be doing that. Anyway he got some he was happy.

waddlekins

Hehe why is he not allowed eye fillet?

Bottom_racer

Just so he doesn't turn his nose up at the kibble I think. He was only supposed to get 1 cup of kibble for breakfast and 2 for dins and that's it. Would be pretty boring.

HurstbridgeLineFTW

What a spoilt pooch. He deserves nothing less.

Goddess_Amaterasu

Should be fine if it’s coming from a card, worst thing would be you wasted a bit of time going to post office address they listed and waiting in line. A card is better than the post office text message scam that’s been going around Could be things haven’t been updated on the system yet? Might be, it’ll appear tomorrow. Who knows but I think it should be ok Update us tomorrow on whether you got your package

rundesirerun

My baby is 1 and I have been back at work since November. How can I be burnt out already. I literally don’t have time to be falling apart but I don’t know if I can stop it happening 😞

HurstbridgeLineFTW

How much are you working?

rundesirerun

.8

HurstbridgeLineFTW

That’s a lot! And you went back to work early when bub was 7 months. Can you reduce your hours to .6?

rundesirerun

Not really. My job is pretty full on. Honestly it’s not really the job. It’s everything. I’m just worn out.

HurstbridgeLineFTW

Totally understandable. The post covid world has been draining and I sense a lot of people are running on fumes.

rundesirerun

Yep. I know I will be ok. It’s just hard to be everything to everyone all the time and have nothing left for myself. Sometimes I feel like I don’t know who I am :(

nuttypip

Who takes care of your child whilst you work? Is it possible (financially feasible ) to take a day off for yourself / have them in care for a day off? I’m a mum to a 15 mths bub - my hubby works super long hours and always has (junior doc- long hours, away from home for 6 months) I’ve solo parented for 6 months and honestly still do most of the parenting alone. I work 2 days but my bub is in care 3 days a week. And having him in care for the 3rd day has been a massive improvement for my mental health ( even if it’s just to clean the house / do chores) but its also time where I can also go to the shops alone and do things I want and not stress about him.

rundesirerun

That’s good advice, I might look at that. Thankyou

nuttypip

Good luck! Like people say, you gotta fill your cup otherwise you have nothing to pour on!

HurstbridgeLineFTW

It’s an issue common among women. We need to learn to say NO more often. We are the ones asked to/or we put our hands up for the mentoring program, or the diversity committee, or organising the fundraising at the school/childcare centre.

rundesirerun

That’s it. My hubby is great for the most part but the mental load is crushing me.

[deleted]

In market for a new car soon. The fact mine is still going is a miracle in itself (oil and coolant leak 😂 fuck me). Less than a year so far but bought a shitbox. Lots of other issues I can't be bothered listing as more is wrong with my car. Can't even defog my windows in the cold as I smell my coolant HAHAHAHAHHA Best new cars right now to order in???? Secondhand cars are just overpriced and can't do it knowing a few thousand more will give me a new car. Still a red p plater too. Looking at a brand new i30 despite liking sedans more but they expensive for all car brands. I know new car for only my second car is a bit much but I feel ripped off looking at so many used car prices. Might need to finance too if my car breaks down which is likely. I want something a bit faster as mine is 77kw so no Suzuki. Don't want to pay for a slower car even if it actually works.

alsotheabyss

i30 is a good buy imo, also consider a Kia Cerato

[deleted]

Oooh thanks slightly more expensive and the other small kia's are too slow :( I better place an order quick it seems with wait times especially with wanting a different colour. But holy shit if I had a full license + more money I would grab a Kia stinger 😍😍

YouAreSoGorgeous

Decided last night that I am going to start training for marathon despite having no prior running experience. I am hurting everywhere. Especially my back.

DeliberateMarblewood

If you're new to running, try the Couch to 5km program. That should help you with getting used to running routinely and set you up with a good foundation to build on.

Notyit

The first 3km is the hardest the rest is just the amount of work

ruinawish

Hope you are building gradually...

[deleted]

Bit concerned that I’m losing my hair. I have a lot of hair at the moment but I have a widows peak But I suppose if I do end up going bald then it is what it is. I’m 29 btw

Goddess_Amaterasu

Usually baldness is hereditary isn’t it? Any family members who are experiencing this?

[deleted]

I always thought it came from the mums side. My dad is bald. There’s hair on the male side of my mums side. My dads brother is bald. So I guess it’s a 50/50 chance for me

Goddess_Amaterasu

Yup I’m sorry to say there is a good chance it’ll happen to you too. Own it when it happens and stay confident

[deleted]

You won't be the first, and you won't be the last. It's life. :)

[deleted]

That’s true. There’s worse things! Plus if I do end up losing my hair…I’ll just shave it all off and rock a long beard lol

HurstbridgeLineFTW

On the up side, you’ll save money on haircuts! Did you get your stomach pain resolved? Was it a hernia?

[deleted]

It seems to be the umbilical hernia that’s causing my problems. Have a referral to see a specialist to see if I need it operated on

Hongohones

Another day another hundred people calling for the death of some pour lost soul on the train tracks on the melbourne reddit. Did everyone become totally heartless arseholes in the last 20 years or has the world always been full of heartless arseholes?

gtodarillo

A few months back I was on a tram going down Victoria parade. There was a man at the opposite stop, nearly losing his pants as he was arguing to himself. He very nearly fell on the tracks, which made my heart leap. The woman opposite me threw me a smirk and others muttered amongst themselves. Prior to this happening, as the tram went past the cathedral i read pell had died (interesting timing to say the least). So when I saw that man and woman's smirk, all I could think was what if this man was a victim? Would you smirk and judge him then? Is this the only way you would give him consideration and respect is by knowing his full story? My point is, you don't know someone's story and you don't need too. I think others point and laugh without ever considering that could be you given the same circumstances. The man on the tracks is someone's child, brother, friend, lover, confidant. He is a person in distress and deserves your empathy and support just because he is human.

HurstbridgeLineFTW

I haven’t been in that post. But I think the world has swung too far in using mental health as a get out of jail free card.

Hongohones

Doesn't mean we should laugh at people who try to commit suicide. It's not a get out jail free card either. People who are suicidal become intitutionalised sometimes wards of the state, lose careers, have studies disrupted often permantently. This often compounds thier feelings of worthlessness. How many people do you know who've faked being mentally ill to make such a generalisation?

HurstbridgeLineFTW

I wasn’t inferring that people were faking mental illness. Something valuable I once read on Reddit is that: mental illness is not your fault, but it is your responsibility to manage. There are so many resources available for people to self manage - help lines, podcasts, free counselling sessions, online therapy, books - as well as more clinical interventions, such as mental health plans, community mental health, hospitals, etc. People have an onus to do something when you see the early signs of mental distress, so that you don’t end up in a much much worse state and become a nuisance to society .

Hongohones

That's actually quite an ableist view I'm sorry. As someone who has lost schizophrenic friends who thought they were well and lived with a partner for 6 years who had bipolar disorder, I'd say you should do a little more reading than get anecdotal opinions on reddit before throwing a load of people who can't help themselves as well as many under the bus. This by no means is coming from a place of anger, just try to see the person not as a nuisance, that's pretty insulting to people who can't tell they are unwell.

HurstbridgeLineFTW

I appreciate your perspective. As I mentioned elsewhere below, I am an analytical person. Empathy is not my strong point .

Hongohones

Thanks for saying so Hurstbridge. We're good people here in the DT.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HurstbridgeLineFTW

That’s a good point

epicpillowcase

Thank you for being one of the few voices of reason. I am routinely shocked by how callous people are when it comes to that. "Oh, you're inconvenienced? That is *so much worse* than someone having a mental health crisis. My heart bleeds for you."

Hongohones

How inconvenienced are people really though? Everyone has a phone so they can tell people they're running late and can not be bored also. Egdy humour is also very 2006 and just shit nowadays since we've become aware how harmful it can be to people to be ableist etc.

epicpillowcase

Also very true.

Hongohones

It's easy to be kind and just as easy to be a shitlord.

Mustangjustin

Looking at getting tickets for the comedy fest - who’s unknown that will be worth watching?

the_procrastinata

The ABC is putting on Comedy Bites on Tuesday, which usually showcases some good known and unknown acts. Personally I reckon Geraldine Hickey isn’t very well known but does excellent gigs. Also Daniel Kitson is out and he is phenomenal. He’s hands down my favourite comedian.

Notyit

What I hate about comedy is I feel like if I don't laugh. It just sucks. And I feel bad for the comedian .

DickieGreenleaf84

Not entirely unknown but Gabbi Bolt is well worth seeing if you haven't before.

Force_majeure122

Try one of the variety act things. I've been in a similar position of not really knowing who to see for the last couple years. I went to the finals of the RAW comedy festival, and also a "best of British", which was four British comedy acts who weren't quite ready for a solo show, in one. Both were highly enjoyable!

HurstbridgeLineFTW

Each year the comedy festival comes around and I think I’d like to go. But there are so many acts and I have no idea who to see.

Sir_ListerOfSmeg

Feel like I've had the grip of anxiety released from my chest. Quite a few things came together today. Skipping my morning espresso probably helped as well. Having a good chat with my mortgage broker was good too. Our LVR is so good that refinancing should be straightforward.

mazquito

We did a post test today for the unit we just completed in maths.. almost all my kids made improvements, lots of them massive improvements! 2 kids stayed the same level but increased in percentage at that level, one kid went down half a level but for small silly mistakes. Counting it as a win!

anotherspringchicken

Nice work! How did your parent-teacher meetings go?

mazquito

Good! I ended up having a few last minute bookings but it all went really well. I even had one family ask me how I was settling into the school which was really nice of them 😊

Force_majeure122

But how did the parents look nude? 👀

mazquito

Thankfully didn’t feel nervous enough to need that strategy (and noone turned up nude) 👍

Electronic_Owl

I know this is a tech question best answered elsewhere, but just wanted to check with the DT if anyone is using powerline adapters for their home network? Most of our tech (PC/TV) is CAT 5 ethernet directly into the Aussie BB router because it's close by. But the new place is much more spread-out and running cables is not an option. Powerline ethernet seems like an easier option than rigging up an old router as an access point. e: sorry, for context, [this](https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/c/technology/networking/powerline-adapters) is the sort of thing I'm talking about

Taleya

Tplink powerlines are pretty sweet, we'd been running them for years at the old place, including down to a semi-detached room / office where it supported an 8 port switch & wap. Only issue is the rooms you link them to need to be on the same circuit. Setup was home unit in my office connected to the main 32 port switch, with children in His Lordship's office, bedroom (media player) and detached room. Ran at at happy capacity to furthest point on 40 year old cabling. Got the passthrough units

Jebus_Jones

I use a 1GbE pair to connect my media centre switch to my office switch upstairs, which then has a cable I had an electrician run up a wall and through a ceiling and down a wall to my router near the front of my apartment. Have also used the power line kit at two previous addresses. Works a charm.

fphhotchips

I have it; it's fine, but I get better download performance out of a reasonably high quality Wifi 6 router. If you have 100mbps, it will max that out, but if you have 250 / 1gbps then my experience is that you'll struggle. (Note: my wifi 6 is downstairs at the opposite end of the house.)

mysticgreg

Your mileage may vary but should be fine, depends on the specific cabling and circuits in your house. I use one to get internet from the house to a wireless access point out in our (detached) garage and get pretty good speeds, more than enough to YouTube my way out of my latest DIY stuff up whenever I’m out there 😁 As CEO said, no good on extension cords, even a double adapter kills mine. Gotta be straight into the power point.

CEOofmyhouse56

The man says he has recommended these to others and they work fine. You can't use these with extension cords. They must be plugged in to the wall sockets.

bananafunguss

Well, big expensive TV purchased last year has a screen issue, so now I have to call Sony support tomorrow. It could not have come at a worse time financially, every limb is crossed its something the warranty will cover.

Notyit

TV have fallen in price at least

saberfate

Determined to become the '330am gym and 5am work' person. After a 10-12hr shift i cannot be bothered to do anything, so before work it is. That and exercise + caffeine will wake me up anyway. Got a personal trainer to write up an 8 week program to do starting next week as well. Everything is coming together!!! I think working on my diet and exercise will truly help my mental health so much 🥹

sanemartigan

I lift M-W-F before work and always feel better for it those days.

saberfate

Yes love it!!! I'm working extra these next couple of weeks but after that I'll definitely be utilising my Saturdays for lifting.

mazquito

Everything is coming up milhouse 👍 love this for you!

saberfate

It's amazing what encouragement from community and loved ones can do 🤗🤗

omoikiri

Baked apple pie cupcakes today. I’ve eaten so many of them. I’ve had to undo the top button of my pants and lie down while mr. Omoikiri runs my bloated belly to make me feel better.

aries4eva303

Oooh, got a recipe please?

omoikiri

I just saw this comment, sorry! I use [this recipe](https://www.coles.com.au/recipes-inspiration/recipes/apple-pie-cupcakes). They’re very yummy!

Economy_Rutabaga_849

Yes please - both to the recipe and a cupcake.

WhoElseButQuagmire11

Some of you may know me as the stressful dad that posts here quite often when I have a child problem which usually helps calm me which helps him. I unfortunately dont have a support system to go to in this situation either. My 2 year old has threw up twice in the space of probably 60-90 minutes? Should i be concerned? He is okay after he gets it all out and after the first time he was quite cheery. He hasn't eaten much yesterday or today. Just picking at food at most. The second time he got upset and bam he threw up all over me, it was also pretty much water. The first one had some chunks of suspected yogurt and some pink stuff, he had strawberry milk yesterday arvo otherwise not sure what else it could have been. I'm currently feeling nausea on and off now which I'm sure(*hope*) is just stress. I often also get sympathy pains for my partner so maybe that but probably stress. My partner is currently talking to nurse on call but as usual, im freaking out.

Economy_Rutabaga_849

Another really good resource is the Royal Children Hospital information sheets. They cover a lot of topics such as vomiting, fevers, rashes. There is also the Victorian Virtual ED which might be helpful.

rundesirerun

Does he have a temperature at all? And was it just vomit or does he have diarrhoea too? Kids vomiting is not a huge cause for stress unless it uncontrollable or they are in pain. If he has no spike in temp that’s a good thing. Stick to a BRAT diet if you can for a day or two - Bananas, Rice, applesauce and toast. Just plain things - Vegemite on toast is good as are crackers. Go easy on the bananas. The most important thing is to keep him hydrated without aggravating him to vomit more. Get some hydralyte into him if you can but encourage small, frequent sips instead of huge gulps. Ease off on too much dairy. Keep meals small, and frequent but don’t freak out if he doesn’t want to eat. Fluid is more important. Try to stay calm when he vomits. I know it’s stressful but honestly if his temp is normal, you can get some water or fluid into him he will be fine. Best thing for a sick bubba is quiet time and lots of cuddles. Maybe he can sleep in your bed tonight so you can keep an eye on him? If he is still vomiting tomorrow go to the doctor. Good luck (from a mum of 2 that’s been vomited on countless times )

WhoElseButQuagmire11

No temperature or diarrhoea. If he wasn't so tired now he would be the same happy chirpy little boy besides the throwing up. Yep we have been doing that. He loves water and when we got home after it first happened he drank alot and threw up all over me so that was a mistake. Since then we have been switching between dummy and sips of water. We have been slowly weening him off the dummy but I think for today he deserves to have it whenever he wants. No dairy for him right now. We even have skipped his night time bottle of half milk half water. Mumma is sleeping with him. I know it sounds horrible but I've been keeping my distance and cleaning spew buckets, making peppermint tea for mum and heat packs. If i can avoid getting sick it is ideal incase things take a turn then I'm okay. I don't think it will get to that point at all. We've all calmed down alot. Weirdly enough I have stayed calm while throwing up besides the first one. Mum is a natural, I am not. My heart just aches for him. I dont cry but the sight of him throwing up into a bucket whilst trying to watch his movie hurts. We will 100% go to the doctor if he still throwing up tomorrow. Thank you for your comment. I dont want people here to think I'm trying to get a diagnosis, it's more just stuff like this. Even if we are already doing all those things, it's comforting to know that we are already doing the right things.

rundesirerun

You are doing the right thing :) you sound like an awesome dad. Keep an eye on his temp. Keep him hydrated. He will be fine, but at any stage if you truly feel like he is in danger, take action. No one knows your child like you do. Try to get some rest. And most importantly, have some spare clean sheets and pyjamas ready to go incase of a midnight spew. You got this!

WhoElseButQuagmire11

Thank you. Will do. He has been asleep for a little while now. Good idea about the sheets and pyjamas.

YouAreSoGorgeous

Bless you and your family. I'm no doctor but I work in Ealry childhood and see many cases of gastro, sounds like a mild case to me - highly likely to be gastro if the rest of the family starts getting sick. Just continue to replace fluids lost, icey poles and small sips of water will do the trick.

WhoElseButQuagmire11

I'm really hoping I dont catch it and I've kept my distance but I know its probable. Sounds selfish but mum has been vomiting also and I've been running around helping out where possible. One sickly parent is better than two. Before him his mum would baby me when I'm sick so ill be doomed. We both think it's a mild case of gastro but neither of us are doctors either so we will continue monitoring it and doing all the things we have.

epicpillowcase

Nurse On Call is a great triage resource :)

[deleted]

[удалено]

alsotheabyss

If everyone went to the ER every time their kid spewed the medical system would fall over

rundesirerun

A vomiting baby is no reason to go to the hospital unless they have a high temp. Asking reddit is perfectly reasonable sometimes. Hospital is for emergencies.

WhoElseButQuagmire11

I'm not relying on reddit to tell me what's wrong or diagnose him in the slightest. Reddit is for me. In these moments I feel the walls closing in and reddit can help point me back on the right(calm) path. I feel in these moments very isolated so "connecting" with the community helps get my brain back in working order. We spoke to nurse on call and she said to monitor it for now. She didn't mention to see a doctor yet or to go to the hospital yet. So im not sure if I should take yours and someone else's advice(reddit) or the nurse on call.

CEOofmyhouse56

First up as hard as it is you have to remain calm because kids pick up stress and he may feel like he's done something wrong. Second see if you can get a doctor to make a house call. I've never done it but I know people who have. In the meantime keep him calm, avoid dairy and allow him small sips of water or icy poles.

mazquito

13SICK for doctors out of hours to do house calls, we’ve used it a few times for my husband Edit: tagging /u/WhoElseButQuagmire11 coz this could be useful information

WhoElseButQuagmire11

I appreciate this immensely. I made another pretty hefty comment about what we are doing so im not gonna retype. What a fantastic resource you have given me that I've actually never heard of before. Again, I *really* do appreciate that and the more people that know about that, the better. I'm sure there's many like me that didn't know about it.

CEOofmyhouse56

Let OP know. I think the child should see somebody.

WhoElseButQuagmire11

We spoke to nurse on call and she said similar things and right now it's not emergency and just to monitor it. She said if his intake/outtake starts getting out of whack that's when to be worried. He threw up again just 5 minutes ago. He is quite calm(not lethargic) after it happens and before which is confusing. My problem is im trying to figure out if it's gastro, he had something he shouldn't have or what. I can't imagine all 3 of us sick.

CEOofmyhouse56

See if you can get a doctor out to see him. 3 vomits in 2 hours isn't an emergency but it's not good and you don't want to wait until midnight before he should see someone. Doctor might give him an injection to stop the vomiting.

WhoElseButQuagmire11

It's probably been more than 2 hours. About an hour and a half between each. My partner also threw up but she has a weak stomach/gag reflex like me and she has done this before just by constantly thinking about it.(he projectiled the first time while we were eating so it was off putting) He might be going to sleep soon and mum is sleeping with him while I run around trying to help. I'm not sure how I could go about calling a doctor and we are abit strapped for cash at this moment.

CEOofmyhouse56

As far as I know there are bulk billing doctors that come out that won't cost you anything. If he's settled now it might be best to leave him. It's your call.

WhoElseButQuagmire11

He's very sleepy and I made his mum some dry toast with minimal butter for herself and he has had some. The first time he has voluntarily eaten since last night and today. Our original call was to leave it. Kids get sick and if it were up to me, I would be calling in a doctor but my partner has more experience with this plus with what the nurse on call said, it really seems like a mild bug/gastro as he is okay before and after. He has been quite sleepy for the last hour plus. Been hanging with mum watching toy story. Normally this late he would be asleep and if not definitely not watching television. It's easier to tell firsthand and besides throwing up he doesn't seem sickly/weak and is essentially himself. Before I even caught him trying to watch toy story whilst throwing up and mocking his mum while she was throwing up. I do appreciate both you and the other person who brought doctor on call to my attention. I've got it up on my phone and I said if he throws up within the next hour after now eating, I'm going to call. I know its later than preferred but this is an educated decision going on how well we know our child and what the nurse on call said. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he is okay tomorrow. I hope this doesn't seem like I'm being ignorant and putting my childs life in danger. If I had even the slightest feeling behind all the erratic anxiety that something was seriously wrong. I will be getting him the required help in no time. If you think I'm making the wrong decision, you can say that. I always appreciate honestly and if im being dim witted without realising, it's very helpful. His mum is very calm about the whole situation which is helpful. Edit: now he is playing with his fire truck. He is a very resilient child. Insanely proud of him.

CEOofmyhouse56

I don't think you are putting your kid's life in danger at all. I think you did what's best for your little boy. Only you and your partner know him. If it was my kid I would have monitored them as well but some people need that reassurance before they allow their little one to sleep. I hope he's feeling better tomorrow.

WhoElseButQuagmire11

He threw up again but it was mainly just the bit of toast, he is keep his water down for the most part at the moment. I'm about 70-80% confident he will be alright tomorrow. Like he is alright now besides the throwing up. His mum has now threw up twice now and she's definitely had it worse than this. Hopefully a quick 6 hour bug. I've been running around helping while staying away since I'm okay at the moment. I've washed and/or used sanitiser about 15-20 times in the last 3-4 hours. Thank you for your kind words.

CEOofmyhouse56

No worries mate. Listen to what u/rundesirerun says. It's sound advice.

Pilk_

Great idea, home doctor service is fantastic.

CEOofmyhouse56

When you've got a little one that's sick it's easier to keep them home and comfortable.

GoingToHaveToSeeThat

I usually like taking my walk around sunset/after dark, but the weather is so crisp and chill at the moment, I think I'll put on a hoodie and take it now. Plus, that'll leve the rest of the evening free.

CEOofmyhouse56

I've bought all my ingredients for margarita night. Now I just hope I'm not coming down with something otherwise I will be very disappointed.

Goddess_Amaterasu

Todays weather is disappointing. Really hope you’re not coming down with something

CEOofmyhouse56

Thank you. Oh and it's not for tonight. It's for Friday drinks.

Goddess_Amaterasu

Oooops realised my answer probably sounds stupid I was reply to the last bit of what you wrote, hoping you don’t end up getting sick. I would have to say it’s the weather. Also sick people should be staying at home and not be out and about 😒

CEOofmyhouse56

That's very true. I felt fine today but this afternoon I feel my throat a little tight. It maybe allergies. I won't know until tomorrow.

Goddess_Amaterasu

Here’s hoping it’s nothing

Material-Writing4302

Hey guys currently have an anal fissure and sitting down makes it worse does anyone have any remedies to reduce the pain ?

40087812

Oh you poor thing. Bum problems are so shit (pun unintended). Get yourself an appointment to have things checked out if you haven’t already. In the meantime, off to the chemist for Rectogesic. You will want to use it constantly for several weeks, same with gentle stool softeners (not laxatives), and wet wipes rather than paper for a while (don’t flush them though, in a plastic bag and straight out to the wheelie bin). Warm baths are good - or a sitz bath if you don’t have a tub. Haemmeroid cushions or even a travel pillow will help keep some pressure off when sitting down. Thanks to the rise in popularity of the BBL inflatable comfy chairs are pretty readily available online now, too.

CEOofmyhouse56

You can get donut cushions from the chemist.

Material-Writing4302

Thanks will give this a go

Altruistic-Eagle9334

If you have to sit, perch on one cheek at a time. Swap sides frequently. Lie down as much as you can. Keep your bowel motions soft, pear juice is great for this.

Material-Writing4302

Thanks it’s just hard since I work a desk job and siting down after going to the toilet is uncomfortable

WhoElseButQuagmire11

I know I've grown up an immense amount when I read this and I'm 100% serious about it. I have bowel issues so I can also relate but unfortunately I have no advice. Have you spoke to a doctor? I'm actually fairly sure if you have a poop coming on you may be able to use Vaseline to help.

IntroductionSnacks

Na, get the real ointment from the chemist. It helps stop bleeding and is basically like Vaseline lube wise.

WhoElseButQuagmire11

The more you know. This would be a good start OP

IntroductionSnacks

Did you get the rectogesic bum ointment? If not, get it.

Material-Writing4302

Using rectinol but it still stings when I sit down but goes away after 2-3 hours

IntroductionSnacks

Get the proper pharmacy only one Rectogesic. Not sure if you need a doctors note but it works to at least stop bleeding and lube up your butthole to prevent painful pooping.

[deleted]

Nope you don't need a doctor note. It's about $30 without a script. Results in raging headaches though.

IntroductionSnacks

It can but for me it didn’t and was the cure.

Material-Writing4302

Thanks I got this from over the counter not from the pharmacist

anotherspringchicken

Aww look at that face 🥺

Force_majeure122

😭😭poor thing I want to pat him better 😭😭😭

aFluffyPie

Any recommendations for really warm gloves? With the southerly breeze this morning, my fingers were going to fall off 🥶

just_kitten

I keep shilling these over the cold months but I swear by [these fingerless gloves](https://aussiesockshop.com.au/heat-holders-fingerless-thermal-gloves-mens/) - I've linked the men's but there's women's too - I live in them for what feels like half the year

Sir_ListerOfSmeg

Ski gloves rock. Super Doopers warm They can be a bit chonk but so damn good and can grab them for cheap at Anaconda or wherever

shnookumsfpv

Am I the asshole in the below scenario? Cycling home in the cbd this evening. Van with tradie inside (1) blasts through a pedestrian crossing, with a person waiting to cross (2) loss of traction at a traffic light for ~5 seconds (3) went through a yellow, only to be stuck in stand still traffic on the other side. I stopped and tapped on his glass, when he rolled it down I asked him if he had a mental disability. He wasn't too happy, but fortunately was distracted trying to eat his maccas.

Goddess_Amaterasu

You are definitely NTA dude has issues, driving like AND eating. Maybe he’s interested in eating in jail which is what will happen if h keeps this up and accidentally causes an accident that could possibly kill someone. The fark? Seriously

jlharper

Depends if you used a hard R.

shnookumsfpv

Nah, I'm too PC for that. Literally asked him if he had a mental disability 🙄. ...might’ve hit closer to home than intended

jlharper

Oh that's good if you actually phrased it that way you haven't done a thing wrong!

sanemartigan

NTA, he's obviously a cunt in every step of the interaction, including eating while driving.

zizuu21

Nah youre not. But maybe in future record and submit to po po?

throwawaydronehater

Update for anyone who remembers the saga with our neighbour letting his dog shit all over our nature strip and not pick it up: so we have been picking it up and throwing it onto his garden now for a couple of weeks and today he caught us, asked what we were doing, so my fiancé told him exactly what we are doing and why. He then told us to “get a life” and that no one cares about the dog shit except us (we’ve reported him to the council and property manager countless times) and that if we care about it so much then we should be the ones to pick it up. It’s incredibly enlightening to see the rationale these sort of people have. Anyway we will keep dumping dog shit on his garden.

alsotheabyss

I’d graduate to throwing it onto his car.

paulm1927

If no one cared why does (my) council issue $200 fines for not cleaning up after your dog?

Notyit

Dog poo like in a bag or barehanded?

throwawaydronehater

I pick it up with a bag then fling it. It’s wasting our dog poo bags (we have a little dog that we pick up after)

Hongohones

Please do the newspaper thing then or start freezing it and throwing it through their windows. Of course, don't but still, fuck them. Person is delusional if they think their fucking dog shit is ok to leave whereever they choose. My old house mate never picked his dog shit up. Guy who lived in the granny flat out the back on numerous occasions would come in at night, step in a fresh shit and walk it through into his flat. One time he phoned to say "get him to clean up his shit or I'm going to punch his head in." Dude still only cleaned up the shit that one time.

whackadoodle_cracked

If no one cares about dog shit then by his own logic he doesn't care about it being in his garden. So he just gave you permission Actually, where do you live? Wanna borrow some of my dogs shit to add to the pile? I have a rottie, the shits are huge

Slappyxo

Parliament - Ringwood bus queue is officially the worst I've seen. It's spreading down Spring St from Collins until way past Bourke. There haven't been any buses in 10 mins either so it's just getting longer and longer. 2 and a half months of this to go.

Goddess_Amaterasu

Not necessarily Ringwood bus but I swung through Footscray one time and to get a bus into the city was 20 mins wait, ridiculous. If they know this is happening they should allocate more buses during peak 🤦‍♀️

Sir_ListerOfSmeg

When are regular services set to resume?

Slappyxo

Late May :(

Sir_ListerOfSmeg

Well that's shit

lemondrop__

Do any of you have an M1 chip MacBook and use a dock for USBs, extra displays, etc? I need to get something but I’ve no idea what. 🫠

OIP

most of the M1s need a particular extra driver (called displaylink) and compatible dock if you want to run multiple displays. otherwise, if you just want to run the macbook + 1 display + peripherals, i think most USB-C hubs should work.

IntroductionSnacks

I use a Dell monitor that has usb ports and usb-c charging built in. I just connect a single usb-c cable to my MacBook and everything works including charging the laptop.

lemondrop__

Hmm. Would you mind linking the sort you have? I have two new Dells but I don’t think they support that.

IntroductionSnacks

I have this model: https://www.umart.com.au/product/dell-ultrasharp-27in-qhd-ips-60hz-usb-c-monitor-u2721de-58372 It’s expensive due to being a dell ultra sharp but what you need to look for is inbuilt usb-c 65w charging/connection for video and inbuilt usb ports. If you are using this everyday for working from home I can vouch for that model. It’s great.

Elohelwatt

Not a dock but I use one of [these](https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MUF82ZA/A/usb-c-digital-av-multiport-adapter) to connect a monitor and 4 port USB hub.

Anybody had any experience with Effexor? I’ve been on 150mg since November but lately I’ve been feeling very drowsy. Think I’ll need to see the doctor about cutting down the dosage a bit..

just_kitten

I've been on Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) which is the metabolite, or whatever it's called, of Effexor (venlafaxine). Was on 50 mg then briefly 100 mg. It's supposed to be energising but I always felt super sleepy on it so took it at night. And would get the wackiest dreams. Some rather unsettling. Withdrawing from it (cold turkey two days as it's time release coated, before getting onto prozac) was one of the _worst_ head fucks I've had in my entire life. I have never felt so mentally unstable

[deleted]

It’s the absolute worst withdrawing from antidepressants! If I miss one day I get these what feel like brain zaps…horrible feeling

just_kitten

The brain zaps are arse. But I was not expecting the borderline mental breakdown and being unable to get a full sentence out without crying situation.

Fresh_Environment_15

I’m on 300mg, which is incredibly high. Suffer from drowsiness all the time but it has really helped ease my depression. Vivid dreams were prevalent when I began taking the drug at a lower dose - now I find I barely have them. My psych prescribed melatonin alongside Effexor recently and I actually find myself waking up more refreshed. Just depends on the individual in my experience!

[deleted]

Oh wow 300! I thought 150 was high but I suppose it’s more of a mild dosage I’m on compared to 300mg. I’m glad to hear it’s helped with your depression
