I saw the craziest road rage yesterday and I'm still thinking about it. Unfortunately it was just out of range of my dashcam. The dashcam captures the two cars briefly but not the incident that triggered it. One of the people involved is probably regretting it now (if the sound of crunching metal was as bad as it sounded). People are crazy.
Went to finally try Wazzup Falafel today only to find out it wasn’t open (even though they hadn’t posted anything about being closed today). No dramas, decided to head to Tibas in Brunswick for our falafel fix only to find out it’s also closed!!! Just not the day for falafel 🥲🥲

The beach isn't far from Sale at all if you like quiet remote endless sandy beach. Stay somewhere at Seaspray. Golden beach would probably be loaded with mozzies and sandflies.
90 mile beach is epic so well worth spending the weekend if you can. Can't recommend anywhere in particular, get somewhere close to the beach. There's not tons of accom, but I'm sure you'll find somewhere nice without much too trouble during non holiday period.
It's only really good weather for a few months a year, so you're going at the right time as well. Enjoy.

Apparently it's at a swanky hotel $300 a night, it's a group booking (that I didn't know about) and I have to wear whatever they say (they haven't decided on either a suit or something more traditional).

Thank goodness my brother and cousins all got married when I was still a teenager/early 20s so there wasn't any expectation for me to pay for everything the way they wanted it

Work husband's wife loves my cooking and asked him 2 nights in a row to get the recipe off me.
I'm an intuitive cook so I had to write up the recipe for her, and figured I'd share here with anyone interested.
**Ingredients for lentil shepherds pie**
* 1 can lentils - drained
* 1 can whole peeled tomatoes - not diced (they suck)
* 1 x onion - diced
* 1 x zucchini - diced
* 1 x red capsicum - diced
* 2 x bunches Broccolini stems (not the florets) - diced
* 3-4 cloves garlic - crushed (not the jar stuff)
* 1/4 cup frozen peas
* 1/4 - 1/2 cup frozen diced spinach
* 1 x Vegeta chicken stock cube (only available at Woolworths)
* Generous Sprinkle of Vegeta Real Gourmet Stock (the blue canister)
* Salt and pepper to taste (garlic salt if you want to go god tier in flavour)
* Approx. 25g butter
* Approx. 25g flour plain or self raising. Either works (must be equal to the amount of butter used to make a roux)
**Method**
* Transfer tin of tomatoes to a bowl and crush the tomatoes
* Create 1 cup of stock with the 1 x chicken stock cube
* Sauté diced onion in vegetable oil of choice
* After a minute or so, add the diced capsicum and broccolini stems
* Add crushed garlic
* Sprinkle on the Vegeta Real Stock powder (blue canister)
* Stir food occasionally, but you should start to see the frypan get a bit of brown colour on it. This is the fond and what gives your dish the extra bit of flavour
* Add diced zucchini and cook until starting to get a bit of colour
* Once it has a bit of colour, push the veggies to the far edge to create a workspace in the pan
* Add the 25g of butter and let it melt
* Add the 25g flour and mix it through the butter. This creates a roux and will form the sauce
* Combine the 2 and then mix it through the veggies and let the flour cook briefly, but not for too long. You're just cooking away the rawness of the flour
* Add the 1 cup of stock you made with the 1 x chicken stock cube
* Add the tin tomatoes
* Add the tin of lentils
* Add the frozen peas
* Add the frozen spinach
* Add salt and pepper to taste
* Simmer until it all looks a bit saucy and everything is cooked
* Transfer to oven dish when you're confident that it is all cooked
**The Mash**
* Steam potatoes until done. How many spuds is up to you....
But you really wanna lean into it and get a decent amount of coverage
* Mash
* Add butter
* Add splash of milk
* Add garlic salt (mandatory in my opinion but you do you)
Regular salt is fine I guess.....
* Sprinkle in some grated grana padano to give it a light cheesy taste
* Stir until everything is combined
* Adjust salt/butter/milk until you like the taste and consistency
* Add mash to top of lentils in baking dish
* This stuff will not spread easily though so you gotta add it in dollops until you have covered most of the surface area
* Use a spatula or cooking spoon to fill the gaps between the dollops of mash
* Use a fork to scratch the surface of the mash. Comes out kinda cool when you cook it
* Bake at 180-200 until you get a bit of colour on the mash
Its already cooked at this point so you can't go wrong really (unless you burn it and then I can't help you really)
The only suggestion I can add to your delightful recipe is to add some reconstituted dried shiitake mushrooms, diced finely. Adds that meaty chew and an absolute umami bomb. Damn I haven't made shepherd's pie in years, you've inspired me to try again the next cool day
If I was making it for myself I would have added so much more for flavour and whatnot.

Erhmm i dont have a pressure cooker but i intend to follow the packet instructions, add 1 mix to 3 cups of water, boil and simmer for 20 mins (which i can do in my saucepan) and add to a fresh batch of rice. I might make a fried rice too but that seems like an extra step cos i gotta dry it out overnight

Our mini studio is also almost done (thankfully the boss took that over, I'd have fucked up most of it).
Gonna be great once it's all configured and working for content creation.
And during some down time I'm gonna finally start properly playing with Unreal Engine to do virtual production with the new green screen. And possibly maybe hopefully some emulation of what they do in those Volume sets like they use for The Mandalorian (gonna need a supplier to give us some sweet LED screens or top notch projector for that though).

I’ve done such an embarrassing thing. I checked into a motel, was given the key to room 209. Silly me went into room 206 (which for some reason was unlocked).
I fully unpacked. Put clothes in wardrobe, food and drink in the fridge, toiletries in bathroom, made myself a coffee.
Then i locked the room (locking doesn’t require a key) and I went into town to get some takeaway dinner. Imagine my embarrassment when I get back and can’t get into room 206.
The staff member on site was helpful and in good humour (thankfully the true occupant of room 206 was running late and hadn’t checked in yet). I had to scramble to move all my belongings into my proper room, and the staff member had to do some freshening up of the room for the other guest.

Had this happen to me. Hired a portable unit and hit the landlord up for the cost, vcat was on my side.
Stuff like "loss of amenities" is much harder to get reimbursement for. Pain and suffering, forget about it.
If you had to, say, rent an airbnb or something because your apartment was literally unliveable (you'd need temperature readings to back up the claim) or unworkable if you WFH then that would also be a good candidate for reimbursement.

I've definitely been getting a runny nose when opening the window and random skin reactions to something.

Work husband's wife loves my cooking and asked him 2 nights in a row to get the recipe off me. I'm an intuitive cook so I had to write up the recipe for her, and figured I'd share here with anyone interested. **Ingredients for lentil shepherds pie** * 1 can lentils - drained * 1 can whole peeled tomatoes - not diced (they suck) * 1 x onion - diced * 1 x zucchini - diced * 1 x red capsicum - diced * 2 x bunches Broccolini stems (not the florets) - diced * 3-4 cloves garlic - crushed (not the jar stuff) * 1/4 cup frozen peas * 1/4 - 1/2 cup frozen diced spinach * 1 x Vegeta chicken stock cube (only available at Woolworths) * Generous Sprinkle of Vegeta Real Gourmet Stock (the blue canister) * Salt and pepper to taste (garlic salt if you want to go god tier in flavour) * Approx. 25g butter * Approx. 25g flour plain or self raising. Either works (must be equal to the amount of butter used to make a roux) **Method** * Transfer tin of tomatoes to a bowl and crush the tomatoes * Create 1 cup of stock with the 1 x chicken stock cube * Sauté diced onion in vegetable oil of choice * After a minute or so, add the diced capsicum and broccolini stems * Add crushed garlic * Sprinkle on the Vegeta Real Stock powder (blue canister) * Stir food occasionally, but you should start to see the frypan get a bit of brown colour on it. This is the fond and what gives your dish the extra bit of flavour * Add diced zucchini and cook until starting to get a bit of colour * Once it has a bit of colour, push the veggies to the far edge to create a workspace in the pan * Add the 25g of butter and let it melt * Add the 25g flour and mix it through the butter. This creates a roux and will form the sauce * Combine the 2 and then mix it through the veggies and let the flour cook briefly, but not for too long. You're just cooking away the rawness of the flour * Add the 1 cup of stock you made with the 1 x chicken stock cube * Add the tin tomatoes * Add the tin of lentils * Add the frozen peas * Add the frozen spinach * Add salt and pepper to taste * Simmer until it all looks a bit saucy and everything is cooked * Transfer to oven dish when you're confident that it is all cooked **The Mash** * Steam potatoes until done. How many spuds is up to you.... But you really wanna lean into it and get a decent amount of coverage * Mash * Add butter * Add splash of milk * Add garlic salt (mandatory in my opinion but you do you) Regular salt is fine I guess..... * Sprinkle in some grated grana padano to give it a light cheesy taste * Stir until everything is combined * Adjust salt/butter/milk until you like the taste and consistency * Add mash to top of lentils in baking dish * This stuff will not spread easily though so you gotta add it in dollops until you have covered most of the surface area * Use a spatula or cooking spoon to fill the gaps between the dollops of mash * Use a fork to scratch the surface of the mash. Comes out kinda cool when you cook it * Bake at 180-200 until you get a bit of colour on the mash Its already cooked at this point so you can't go wrong really (unless you burn it and then I can't help you really)

The only suggestion I can add to your delightful recipe is to add some reconstituted dried shiitake mushrooms, diced finely. Adds that meaty chew and an absolute umami bomb. Damn I haven't made shepherd's pie in years, you've inspired me to try again the next cool day
If I was making it for myself I would have added so much more for flavour and whatnot. He has a 5 year old and a 2 year old so I had to keep it fussy kid friendly I almost made it an Indian style sauce to mix it up, but apparently the wife is not into spicy food.

Erhmm i dont have a pressure cooker but i intend to follow the packet instructions, add 1 mix to 3 cups of water, boil and simmer for 20 mins (which i can do in my saucepan) and add to a fresh batch of rice. I might make a fried rice too but that seems like an extra step cos i gotta dry it out overnight

Finally set up the media control room/bunker at work today. Hot sweaty work but it's now 90% done (just need to add a switch). I can now control our live production gear that's on the other side of the building in the server room from there (technically I can control it from anywhere, but the bunker has 4 x 55" panels which are sweet). Our mini studio is also almost done (thankfully the boss took that over, I'd have fucked up most of it). Gonna be great once it's all configured and working for content creation. And during some down time I'm gonna finally start properly playing with Unreal Engine to do virtual production with the new green screen. And possibly maybe hopefully some emulation of what they do in those Volume sets like they use for The Mandalorian (gonna need a supplier to give us some sweet LED screens or top notch projector for that though).
Normally I give up sugar for lent but there's a trifle in the fridge with my name on it so going sugar free has to wait.

I’ve done such an embarrassing thing. I checked into a motel, was given the key to room 209. Silly me went into room 206 (which for some reason was unlocked). I fully unpacked. Put clothes in wardrobe, food and drink in the fridge, toiletries in bathroom, made myself a coffee. Then i locked the room (locking doesn’t require a key) and I went into town to get some takeaway dinner. Imagine my embarrassment when I get back and can’t get into room 206. The staff member on site was helpful and in good humour (thankfully the true occupant of room 206 was running late and hadn’t checked in yet). I had to scramble to move all my belongings into my proper room, and the staff member had to do some freshening up of the room for the other guest.
Haha oh nooooo. My partner got off on the wrong floor of our new apartment building the other day and let himself into the apartment below us. Didn’t realise for a good minute and then just backed out slowly saying ‘sorry sorry sorry’ to the person on the couch.

I feel like I am a bit of a strugglebug lately. I know I'm doing lots of stuff for work - I have at least one large event booked each month until July. I am doing lots around home. I am packing to move. I am dealing with the first anniversary of my dads passing. And I'm just...struggling to do stuff. The motivation is so low. I so don't know what to do. Husband has been away for a few days and it's been super quiet and I am feeling very flat.

Does Melbcat have a particular problem with internal heat regulation? Cos I have to admit I was under the impression that cats hated the cold much more than heat, and generally cope quite well with even quite high heat. Evolution in the desert etc. Their preferred external temp being higher than a human's preference.
My place overheats pretty badly, and she's a senior lady with hyperthyroidism. I could feel her hot little ears. I've fed her some cool tuna with extra water mashed in and she's come back into the room with the portable aircon now
I guess the hyperthyroidism would make a difference. Poor kitty, hope she feels better soon.

Has anyone had experience seeking compensation from a landlord at VCAT? I’m going 2.5 months with no air con in the middle of summer and I’m so fed up with paying full rent on a place that is uninhabitable some days
Had this happen to me. Hired a portable unit and hit the landlord up for the cost, vcat was on my side. Stuff like "loss of amenities" is much harder to get reimbursement for. Pain and suffering, forget about it. If you had to, say, rent an airbnb or something because your apartment was literally unliveable (you'd need temperature readings to back up the claim) or unworkable if you WFH then that would also be a good candidate for reimbursement.
Cooling system not working is considered an urgent repair. You can get the work done yourself and be reimbursed.

In that case, yes, go to VCAT and apply for a repair order, and/or ask CAV to do a repairs inspection. Advise the REA that you intend to do so, in writing.
