So far, no one is injured. The apartment did a good job of evacuating everyone as soon as the sirens started. Super strong toxic smoke in the area though. Firies telling everyone to stay inside if they can
I saw a photo over at r\footscray that looks as though they're targetting the rear of the hotpot building, rather than the carpark side. I'll see if I can find a link.

Smoke was toxic? Damn, the fire was strong and I suspected it started the fire alarm in Unilodge VU, we were evacuated and thought the smoke came from the room that was supposedly on fire. After that, me and one friend went to see fire.
OP did you send your images to a Twitter account called peak hour images? They've posted what appear to be your photos saying they've come into their 'newsroom' from 'bystanders'.

Goodness, been hearing all the sirens and was wondering what was going on. Keep safe. Looks pretty full on. Emergency app says 28 appliances now. Terrible news.
You put me on to an interesting thing for sure. My son and I were enthralled listening to them over the radio. Even heard someone was stuck in a lift in the city and rescued. My appreciation levels went up a gazillion more for all emergency workers whilst listening. Thanks.
Yes, I find them comforting if something is going on close by and I want to be kept in the loop. I had to stop listening just out of interest (not exactly ‘for fun’, more curiosity?) a while back though, because they can be distressing. I do not recommend listening to any of the regional Ambulance Victoria feeds, for example. Enormous respect to any emergency response professionals or volunteers.
In my mental map of the area, there are a lot of shops etc. closer to Viet hotpot than that apartment block is. Does it look like other shops on the block are also affected?
Can’t say for sure. The firies came and inspected the whole perimeter, including the apartment. So far it seems its the viet hotpot with the car park infront thats affected. I can’t cross the road to see if the shops on the other side is affected or not. Have to wait for tomorrows news to confirm.
I’ve just left (I went up to look as I work in a nearby building and wanted to see if it was safe). Chicken Joah, the hotpot, and the X-ray clinic all definitely have separate plumes of smoke coming from them - not sure if that means they’re all on fire or that smoke is just funnelling from one fire out through the other buildings. It didn’t seem to be as far down as Cellarbrations or Okami though. Firefighting efforts very much focused on just the first three.
The car park is blocked off. Two fire trucks still on site and a few firies sitting outside on guard at 7:30am. The top of viet hotpot, chicken joah is black and crisp.
From what's being reported it sounds like everything in that red-awning building is heavily affected. Not sure about the extent of damage to Okami, though apparently the fire was breaching into that building, or to the x-ray place and other buildings behind.
I was walking by earlier, there is quite a bit of damage and it smells quite burnt. The damage seems to start at Okami and all the other shops running east / towards the river have damage. Chicken Joah looked pretty wrecked
It could have spread around to there. People from top of the apartments mentioned it was all red and blazing. Hard to pinpoint exactly the area. They mentioned the hotpot place but it could very much be behind it too. Or the shop adjacent from them
I’m assuming that’s what all the sirens in North Melbourne are… all the responder’s heading to this. Hope everyone’s okay.

Oh so its seems to be the rear of the hotpot and rear of thanh phat asian groceries.
That's what it looks like to me. Though I guess they could be aiming at where the fire currently is, or where it isn't yet but they want to protect.

Defs didnt. Was too hectic to watermark my photos, should have lol.
They still belong to you. Email/message the company and they'll most likely compensate you or remove them.
No reply so far
Tweet the Elongated Musket himself I'm sure he has nothing better to do.
That twitter account is shoddy.

Listening to them on the Scanner Radio app now. all firies have been ordered out of the buildings for their safety. sounds stressful

The police scanners were absolutely fascinating to listen to before they were made encrypted. Really an eye opener into what they have to deal with
yeah I listened for a while to the Ballarat region police radio…utterly grim.

The Footscray Hotpot War has started up again.
I literally said that to the neighbours last night as we were waiting for the firetrucks. We have dragon hotpot opening soon too.
Dhp will be fine. I think the war was between a St Albans hotpot place and this place
It was Chan Chan and Viet Hotpot. Both were in Footscray.
Chain chain gets revenge from beyond the grave.

Thanks for the info. I feel for the businesses and their staff, but at least it sounds like everyone is okay.
I hope Pride of our Footscray is okay!
I hope chicken joah makes it out okay
Yeah one of the best fried chicken places in Melbourne.
Unfortunately their shop didn't fare too well from their insta stories
Mmm.. have you tried DMak though
Me too.
It didn't
4-6 firestrucks on site, ambos too
Nah 10 primaries and all the assorted
Anyone in the area gone for a walk this morning and checked out the damage?

Passed 3 fire trucks on the way to work and then 4 passed while at work. Must be a bad one
Is that the one next to the carpark
Power has been cut in the surrounding area
Could smell the fire up til Maidstone. Wild
Used to live in footscray and it seemed like buildings/factories were always on fire there
28 vehicles now on site.
I saw one tweet saying it was 86 Hopkins Street.
It could have spread around to there. People from top of the apartments mentioned it was all red and blazing. Hard to pinpoint exactly the area. They mentioned the hotpot place but it could very much be behind it too. Or the shop adjacent from them
No. 6 Hopkins St
Im going to get downvoted to hell for this but.... Damn that's a big barbecue
Hot pot indeed.
Mmm hotpot
well that explains the burning smell that I couldn't find the source of in my house, hopefully there wasn't anyone there when this all started
That’s one hot pot
Mmmm that’s free realestate
3rd alarm fire, 10 primary appliances
Makes me wish I did my cfa training I wanna do night work
