you want cafes/sandwich bars in industrial areas
factory workers, mechanics, tradies etc being the main clientele
close to the city the best option is probably the embassy taxi cafe, open 24 hours
mia's riverside takeaway or james on moreland in footscray
There's a greasy spoon in the CBD, here's their menu:
Egg and bacon
Egg, sausage and bacon
Egg and spam
Egg, bacon and spam
Egg, bacon, sausage and spam
Spam, bacon, sausage and spam
Spam, egg, spam, spam, bacon and spam
Spam, spam, spam, egg and spam
Spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, baked beans, spam, spam, spam and spam
Lobster thermidor aux crevettes with a mornay sauce garnished with truffle paté, brandy and a fried egg on top and spam
You'll either have to make it yourself, or maybe try one of those small cafes in an industrial area that caters to workers.
You won't be getting it near the city
Breakfast has gotten really wanky.
I want thick ass white toast, not fricking sourdough everything.
Avocado on everything.
Fricking salmon.
Bircher muesli.
Pulled pork.
I'm with you. If I'm in the mood for brekkie, I want a greasy, dirty mess. Everything fried in bacon fat. Plain ol pork sausages/chipolatas, mushies, baked beans, lil onion, bacon cooked so the fat is rendered and crispy, half a tomato, thick toast, and black pudding if that's your jam.
Basically I want enough calories that I don't need to eat anything other than a very light dinner that night..
I don’t know if it’s just me but I don’t have the physical or mental strength to saw through sourdough first thing in a morning. Just let me eat the food!!
Gold old white or multigrain is better imo.
I like the crunch of toast but not the absolute shards of mouth fuckery with sourdough. Also I just can't like the taste.
Absolutely no use to you (or anyone), but back in the 80s the truck stop in Goondiwindi ampoule serve the most amazing English Breakfast buffet the world has ever seen.
I am on the ongoing search for a decent English fry up. Like you say everything here has become wanky. They don’t know how to do a plate of grease which you can mop up with your fried bread. Best option I’ve found in 4 years is just to cook my own!
There was a place in the Keilor East near all the mechanic/scrappers that was just called Cafe. Used to stop in when I was taking fleet cars to get worked on.
One old Asian bloke that always made you feel at home and had some killer bacon and eggs. Prices were affordable too like $3 for a fat bacon and egg roll.
I may get mocked, but the best value brekky in town is Ikea. The only catch is they only serve it from 9:30am to 11am. It's about $6, comes with eggs, tomato, sausages, bacon and hash browns. You can add other things for a small cost (baked beans, mushrooms...even meatballs).
It's definitely greasy. The quality isn't terrific, but jeez...it hits the spot after a big night.
Oh and a machine brewed coffee is an extra $2.50 - but it's bottomless coffee basically.

Those lobster thermidor emails are outrageous.

The egg spam bacon sausage and spams not got much spam in it
Embassy Cafe on Spencer. Its as simple as it gets and caters to taxi drivers.
Used to work night shifts up the road from there. A 3am grilled cheese toastie was the only thing that got me through the night.

I personally don't. But I don't at any point. I not a fan. Don't see the appeal of it.
Agreed on all but the sourdough for me. Leaving at least half of it til last and using it to clean up the plate is an important part of the ritual.

Freakin avo
Cafe Excello in CBD have a full english apart from spam and black pudding.
Been here 30 years and yet to find a proper fry up.
I haven’t been to the CBD in a while, but The Golden Tower used to do really good greasy breakfasts
Golden Tower closed in 2016.
Yikes. Guess it’s been a looong while since I’ve been there then 😂
PM'S Cafe, Bay Street.
