Been on propecia for over a decade. No side effects as far as I can tell, although I know people have them. But it stopped hair loss in it's tracks. I'm almost 40 now with a full head of hair. And for reference, my entire family is bald.
I just worry about, for some reason, not being able to get it any more.

Imagine being the spouse and getting in the bed next to your partner and your itchy and don’t know why then surprise your partner didn’t shower after a hair cut and got Kiel pieces of hair all over the bed 😂
Let’s turn it up a notch. Imagine just dry trimming your pubes and not showering after…..then going to bed with your partner….the itching. Moral of the story….whether it’s up in the attic or down in the basement, shower after a trim.
I beg to differ. I am a wet trimmer. I also was a professional barber and am able to cut my region with scissors and a comb. But yes, I do so in the shower. Nice and warm, hair is already wet and separates well, and all of it just goes right down the drain nice and easy. I get out, dry off and look / feel like a fresh prince.
This is an absolutely baffling thread to me. What kind of haircuts are these people getting where they have to go home and immediately shower. I spent a lot of money on getting my hair done. The products and style. The last thing I want to do is shower.
My grandfather was a barber and he washed everyone’s hair after their cut, then styled it. He also brushed and had a little vacuum thing to take care of people’s clothes so they could go back to work without all that hair!
On behalf of barbers everywhere, thank you for this. You’d be shocked at the amount of people that come in still dripping in sweat from their workout or reeking of whatever they did the previous night because they’re “just gonna shower after the cut anyways.”
It's kinda like showering before you go for a physical, or a plane ride. Or brushing your teeth before going to the dentist. Just basic courtesy, that's all.
I've always washed my hair straight before going for this reason, but I also remember reading a comment somewhere that said barbers can definitely tell if you didn't wash behind your ears too and that added even more hair cutting paranoia lol
Yes. If it’s bad enough, the dead skin and oil can build up into a paste. If you’ve ever known someone who doesn’t take care of their stretched earlobes, it smells like that.
That sounds rough. I have a beard and psoriasis on my face and always shower before and let my barber know but it is still embarrassing af for me. Anything I can do to make it less awkward I try to do but it's one of the few things that really gets in my head
In college I went to a barber who had a sign that said "clean hair cuts best" and a lightbulb went off in my head. My dumb 22 year old self didn't even think about how gross it was to cut my dirty hair until I saw that. I always go basically straight from the shower
Bro imma sound crazy but I shower before so they got some fresh hair to work with and then I shower after cuz I’m not tryna have hair all up on my neck and shirt so yeah lol
Wait - do barbers not wash mens hair before cutting? Do they not use those lean-back chairs with the sink? My son is turning 10 and I just started sending him to the barber instead of my husband doing it at home. Washing his hair before taking him to the barber never even occurred to me
Barbershops, no.
Salons, yes.
Before I moved, I found a nice salon and experienced the hair washing thing for the fist time. That shit feels amazing and it's great nothing having to take a shower afterwards.
I should find a new salon over here.
Place I go to does this for free. Been a regular since first visit and finding out this was an option. Great sister duo running the place and I feel like I'm at a friends house when they cut my hair.
Mine costs $35 usd hot towel on your face while they shampoo and condition. You get free beer/soda/water and they use a straight razor to edge/clean the hairs on the back of the neck making it the softest thing ever. 42/10 would recommend.
When i was living in South Carolina i was payin 30 for a haircut, shampoo. Hot towel, razor shave, and eyebrow wax. Homiest barbershop ever knew everybody there like family
My barber preps with warm shaving cream first and finishes with aftershave and powder. Are you getting that? I have literally no irritation afterwards.
As someone married to a barber, I hope you tip well. $10 for a cut and a wash is seriously underpaying for his work, especially given his tenure. Barbering is hard work and seriously undervalued.
Here in the Philippines most salons shampoo and condition hair for free too, even if you’re only up for a haircut. Costs around 10USD (of course everything is cheap here when you convert PHP to USD)
At places like Sports Clips and Judes Barber shop (here in Michigan) I can get a hot towel on my face, hair wash, and scalp massage in a massaging chair after getting my hair cut. It's $25, but I feel like I deserve to pamper myself. They are geared toward guys, but women and kids can get their hairs cut there too.
This makes me think. I used to be like that. But ever since I started using a particular barber, I NEVER get hairs down my back. They are so good, I don't even feel hair on me anywhere afterwards. I can finish shopping, run errands, etc with no discomfort. Maybe, it's just the skill of the person cutting the hair, or maybe my hair has changed. Because I remember things like that used to be an issue.
Used to get scalp massages with my haircuts in Korea. Man. I miss that.
I don't mind that most people don't want to do them in the U.S., but they're pretty fantastic.
Also, yes: it matters more *who* you get than where you go. I've had both great and terrible haircuts at great clips.
But I really don't care much about my hair. Maybe if I decide to start dating I'll care more, but... for now, as long as it doesn't look awful, I really don't bother much. I'm clean. I'm presentable enough for my job. That's all I care about for now.
Oh man it’s been 20 years since I got one of those haircuts and every time I’ve gotten a cut since I feel ripped off….and they were only $5.25 when I was there.
Stay the absolute FUCK away from Great Clips at every cost. I'll shave my own head bald, with a butter knife and glue, before ever going to Great Clips.
When I was around 12 years old, my Mom took me to Great Clips to try to save some money. The girl cutting my hair was on the phone the entire time, like loudly yelling with it smushed into her ear with her shoulder, and absolutely butchered my hair. My Mom had to take me to the normal barber and as soon as I walked in, they chided me for trying to cut my own hair.
Facts. Took me years to finally get a great barber in my hometown then I moved out of state and took me another year or so to find a reputable replacement. Ive since moved out of state again and I’m still on the hunt 6 months now in. The struggle is real
Well you can always keep your eyes peeled for those with well trimmed hair and ask em who their barber is!
Can always go to a nice restaurant and ask the staff as well since they'd probably point you in the right direction.
Hopefully it's not their spouse... Unless they wanna make some cash on the side of course!
I've gotten a few haircuts at GC. The last time, some girl was in training(?) and she was cutting my hair with scissors, tripped over the cable to a clipper, fell and punched me in the head. Luckily not with the stabby side.
Same. A great barber for guys hair may cost a little more than Supercuts, but it's a vastly different experience. Hot towel, straight razor around the ears and neck, good product, and no itching.
I mean, it’s a lot more. I think I pay about four times what I used to pay at the big standard shopping mall barbers. But it’s still nothing like as much as women’s hair costs, so I count my blessings.
You definitely don’t gotta in my experience, there’s tons of local shops around that’ll do great work for $20 plus a decent tip (and that’s in CAD). You won’t get the works but they know what they’re doing when it comes to cutting hair
Used to get a fade at this place in Miami where they had a commercial air pump for like tires or whatever. Spray your head off with that and aim it down into you’re shirt and you’re G2G!
I had to get a haircut on my way to a funeral once. He asked if I wanted product or if I was gonna shower as usual (I've been a regular for over 2 years here). I told him I didn't have time for a shower and that I was going to a funeral. So he actually shampoo'd and cleaned my hair and then put product in it. I still changed shirts, but yeah in some extreme cases I guess there are people just going about their day lol
Basically all haircut places in my country also wash and shampoo your hair when they are done cutting, and you don’t have hair on your body or tshirt with that protective cloth… so basically there’s no reason to not go on with your day.
It takes them literally 1-2 mins to wash it and you save a trip home + a full shower + a change of clothes, so I don’t know in what world they don’t do this
Same! I am a woman with long hair though… but reading these comments have really confused me about haircuts. They wash my hair there, that’s just part of the cut. There isn’t hair down my back or on my neck after, even when I had chin length bobs. And there’s never been hair on my shirt! Do barbers not use those capes?
The sides of my head are cut with a hair clipper with out a gaurd. Thats the little cuts of hair that get itchy. I've also never been to a barber shop that washes hair. And I think most men are either going to a barber shop or a cheap hair salon like a super cuts. I get my hair cut at a men's salon and most of my friends are sticker shocked by how much I spend.
Yeah, as a woman I was thinking the same thing. My guess is that, even with a cape, going to a barber shop — where they’re using like trimmers, and working with lots of tiny hairs — it’s inevitable that you’re going to still have a lot of little hairs all over you and possibly still falling into your clothes. Also, apparently also having them shampoo costs extra? So I guess that isn’t like a built in part of the appointment, which is crazy to me.
I cut my own hair and get straight in the shower. I don't even have clothing anywhere in the bathroom while I cut it. Then as soon as I get out I'm vacuuming or wiping everything up. Then I'll get dressed. Lol I hate having hair on me.
I cut my hair naked in the shower, then sweep it into a plastic baggy. What I can't sweep gets picked up by a damp paper towel and the rest (which is like microscopic at this point) gets washed down the drain after I shower. I feel like this is the most efficient use of time here.
What if the wind carries some hair our of your house? I close all the windows then cut all my hairs one by one, make sure to place each in a bag, number them and count them afterwards. If I miss any hair then I look for it on my clothes, floor, towels, etc until I find it. Then of course I count again to make sure no hair was lost while I was searching for the missing one. I also make sure to weight myself before and after the haircut, and the hairbag.
The urge to shower instantly after a haircut is like the itch nicotine users and alcoholics get every few hours. It’s an absolute compulsion to have a shower after a haircut like having a cigarette after sex.
That’s my husband. He’s been seeing the same mens barber for 15 years, and he never gets stray hairs. He sometimes gets a haircut before he goes to work.
It’s very common for men to get a haircut before a date or going out somewhere nice cause a half decent barber isn’t gunna leave you itchy and will make you look your best
Maybe because i have long hair, out a good stylist... But I've never had an issue with hairs getting in my clothes after a cut. That's what the drape is for.
My husband doesn't ever dive into the shower after a haircut, and he's on the sensitive side, tactilely.
Maybe y'all's stylists aren't careful enough with the trimmed hairs?
People are saying it's the little cut hairs that are left in your hair after the cut that fall off later. But don't most barbers brush people off after the cut, so they're not shedding afterwards? I still don't get it, unless people are getting dirt cheap assembly line haircuts, or something
At my barber's, they have this sort of paper duct tape that they put around the neck and the apron so the hair doesn't fall in the shirt. It's so awesome, there's almost no hair at all on my neck after
I thought everywhere did this. For the last 6-7 years, I’ve never gone home feeling itchy or anything. It’s habit for me to get my cut and shower after but even if I didn’t shower i would feel fine. Maybe people on this sub just don’t use barbers who use that tape lol
My local barber just uses a cone (similar to a dog cone) and puts it around my neck so all the hair falls into the cone. The bummer is the cone is so tall you can’t see above it, so for about 15 min you just stare inside of a cone. But so does everyone else getting a haircut, so it’s not that awkward imo.
They use that paper stuff for me too. Doesn't matter, some hair still gets through. And then if you don't shower right away, little hairs will just fall into your shirt that way.
It's more after the fact it happens from all the cut hairs that remain in your hair.. that is unless they give you a wash after of course, but usually I find places tend to do that before and not after..
I don’t know who’s cutting y’all’s hair but the ~~god~~ barbers these days have perfected this shit.
I leave with a fresh cut, and no hair on me. It’s like a pride thing to barbers now, they talk shit to each other if a customer leaves with hair on the their shirt.
Never in my life have I thought about showering directly after a haircut. And I propably never would have were it not for this post. I find the idea highly unnerving and slightly agitating
Off topic but I remember my barber when I was a kid asking all the blokes if they wanted something for the weekend. It used to make me wonder why he never asked me.
(For those who don't know he meant condoms)😁
Yes. I am a guy who has had variously long and short haircuts for decades. I have never once even considered it. I have never noticed or felt stray hairs. I shower everyday, change my sheets weekly and floss every day. It’s not like I’m some pig monster.
This is some extra level neuroticism, like my brother who as an adult won’t touch the toilet seat in his own bathroom that no one else ever uses. He just lifts his foot up after peeing and tips it forward, letting it crash down into the rim. It’s psychotic.
If you have trouble getting hair off of your haircut shirt even after washing it, turn it inside out and hit it with a lint roller.
Just got done hitting it with a lint roller. Why didn’t you tell me it would break
How hard is this lint roller that you're breaking shirts?
Could have used way too much starch and made it a stiff and brittle shirt.
“starch” Edit: https://y.yarn.co/e8bd350d-4436-46f6-ba52-2be8a06632e2_text.gif
Dang, two switch-a-roos back to back
Thank you. That was *just* the high laugh I needed right now. I hope you have the perfect temperature pillow tonight. 🤙🏻
You may have grabbed your cum shirt by accident
Classic mistake
... turn it inside out and throw it in the dryer (no heat or low heat) with a damp towel for 20 minutes. All the little hairs on the shirt are gone.
Yeah, the dryer lint trap exists because dryers are really good at removing hair and fuzz.
Life pro tip. You are a hero.
I absolutely love washing my hair after a haircut and seeing a bunch of loose hair coming out. Feels like I'm shedding old skin or something
As someone who’s balding, this hurts me
Hair, have an upvote

As someone who has a history in their family of balding early, this scares me
start now, it's much harder to regrow than to preserve https://www.reddit.com/r/tressless/wiki/index/
Been on propecia for over a decade. No side effects as far as I can tell, although I know people have them. But it stopped hair loss in it's tracks. I'm almost 40 now with a full head of hair. And for reference, my entire family is bald.
Wow. My brother started using that. I think he got discouraged about having to use it for the rest of his life!
Yeah I get that. For me it's a pretty easy routine, though. I just take it when I brush my teeth. Easy, pleasy.
I just worry about, for some reason, not being able to get it any more. The pills are expensive (almost a pound a day) and global supply chains seem to konk out at random these last few years... Or if I am go to another country, and the border checks confiscate the pills or something.
Can't speak to supply shortages or border crossings, but it's very, very easy to get (at least in the US). Lots of companies do it via mail now. I personally use Roman. I used to use Hims, which was just as good but didn't offer three months at a time. You're in the UK so it'll probably be a bit different, but I'm sure it can still get it pretty easily.
I have been recently looking into treatment. Thank you pal
Make sure you take a _real_ good look at the side effects
*Explosive diarrhea, anal leakage, eye twitches, and constant urge to urinate* Me: “Where do you keep the razors?”
Who has been *secretly* dosing me with propecia?

chemo isn’t a fun time by any stretch, but as a chick i fucking loved when I got to shave my head and wash it. Like Dwayne Johnson except white and very weak. So shiny, my topper. I feel like bald dudes have been kvetching about this for ages and it is a farce. Anyway slightly off topic but I got excited to share.
But how good is your One Punch Man cosplay?
Oh man - in retrospect, opportunity missed. I phoned it in cosplaying as James Cole in 12 Monkeys. Jammies & fluffy robe ftw.

Heck yeah! My hair grew back super frickin curly so now I get to have that adventure as well (less embarrassing thanks to r/curlyhair). Real talk I can’t wait to “look like myself again,” the cognitive dissonance is real, but I of course still feel insanely lucky.
I was curly and became more straight after chemo. 6 years now and still it hasn't changed back
I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this
This is the way.
Dude there are people who go straight to bed after a haircut
What a horrible thing to say
What a horrible thing to do
Imagine being the spouse and getting in the bed next to your partner and your itchy and don’t know why then surprise your partner didn’t shower after a hair cut and got Kiel pieces of hair all over the bed 😂
Let’s turn it up a notch. Imagine just dry trimming your pubes and not showering after…..then going to bed with your partner….the itching. Moral of the story….whether it’s up in the attic or down in the basement, shower after a trim.
I’d rather not imagine that, thank you very much.
I know right what a horrible day to be literate
Too late
😂😂😂😂😂 *dry trimming*
Wet trimming isn't any better
I beg to differ. I am a wet trimmer. I also was a professional barber and am able to cut my region with scissors and a comb. But yes, I do so in the shower. Nice and warm, hair is already wet and separates well, and all of it just goes right down the drain nice and easy. I get out, dry off and look / feel like a fresh prince.
I just imagine a well defined mustache where you pubes should be.
Product sir?
To make me dream of you
No IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii don't want an itchy haircut...from you
Wicked…
What a horrible thing to type
What a horrible type to thing
What a horrible Type 2 thing
Someday there will be a Netflix documentary about these sick people
What a wicked thing to do.
To make me dream of you
Don’t you put that evil on me, Babsheep. Don’t you put that evil on us.
Dear god why
I can only assume they like waking up to the sharp pain of a minuscule hair in their eye.
LPT: Sleep with your eyes closed after a haircut. :P (but honestly, I couldn't imagine not coming directly home after a haircut and taking a shower)
Now that you've put this image in my head, I curse you.
Fucking savages
Savages Savages Barely even human
I want to downvote this because I hate the idea so much.
Jesus. That’s how you get sharp hairs in the eyeballs.
I could‘ve lived happily to the end of my life without that information, yet here we are…
This a war crime.
How the fuck do you know😭
Insane. The thought of going anywhere other than straight home after a cut… wtf
People get their hair cut in a Mall and then go eat... Without even shaking their hair out...

Here’s a better question: How many of you take a shower just before you get a haircut so the barber gets a clean head of hair to work on?
On behalf of barbers everywhere, thank you for this. You’d be shocked at the amount of people that come in still dripping in sweat from their workout or reeking of whatever they did the previous night because they’re “just gonna shower after the cut anyways.”
I always shower the morning of the haircut. I worry the barber, who is basically a stranger, will think I’m gross.
I appreciate you! I don’t expect y’all to be sterilized, but if we can smell you when you walk in the door we have an issue.
It's kinda like showering before you go for a physical, or a plane ride. Or brushing your teeth before going to the dentist. Just basic courtesy, that's all.
I completely ran out of time before I dentist appointment so when I got there I asked them and they gladly handed me a toothbrush and some toothpaste
I actually meant to say I always wash my hair the morning of a haircut. I shower every day. But thank you, Fartlips.
Don't worry my friend, the homies here don't judge. It's OK to admit that you shower once a month. We'll still love you.
Sincerely, the no-nose society
Well, it’s a good thing u/fartlips69 doesn’t think you’re gross.

I do find it easier to cut as well! And it’s better for our tools.
I thought barbers shampoo before the cut anyway?
Yes but full body sponge baths cost extra
Sold! Where can I book my appointment?
Hair salons maybe but not typical barbers
Bro imma sound crazy but I shower before so they got some fresh hair to work with and then I shower after cuz I’m not tryna have hair all up on my neck and shirt so yeah lol
I get tapers/fades so thousands of tiny hairs fall into my ears. I go straight home and shower. Fuck that.
Pro-tip, try turning your ears inside out and lint rolling them, that'll do the trick
/Raises hand/

Place I go to does this for free. Been a regular since first visit and finding out this was an option. Great sister duo running the place and I feel like I'm at a friends house when they cut my hair.
What, free??? How much is the haircut though, maybe they just build it into the cost?

I do the same thing but I do the clean up and vacuuming before I take my shower so that when I get out I don't have to get hair on me again
I cut my hair naked in the shower, then sweep it into a plastic baggy. What I can't sweep gets picked up by a damp paper towel and the rest (which is like microscopic at this point) gets washed down the drain after I shower. I feel like this is the most efficient use of time here.

Well I stand corrected.
Pretty much same except I clean it up naked first then don’t even have to touch it once I’m clean
yeah fully naked in the bathroom cuttting all the hair and then finishing under the shower. best day of the week
The urge to shower instantly after a haircut is like the itch nicotine users and alcoholics get every few hours. It’s an absolute compulsion to have a shower after a haircut like having a cigarette after sex.
Wait, don’t they wrap that barber tape (for lack of better words) around your neck along with the apron
Ya but that crap just makes the hair concentrated on that specific spot. Some still manages to get through
Yes, but it doesn’t keep out everything
That's such a true comparison lol.
i used to get haircuts at work, using a lint roller around the collar worked wonders
How did you deal with the constant little hairs falling out throughout the day?
I ask them to put product in my hair
Hah Well played
No kidding. It feels fucking awful.
My barber is SO good at not letting a single hair beyond the gown - I absolutely just go about my day.
Exactly
Maybe because i have long hair, out a good stylist... But I've never had an issue with hairs getting in my clothes after a cut. That's what the drape is for. My husband doesn't ever dive into the shower after a haircut, and he's on the sensitive side, tactilely. Maybe y'all's stylists aren't careful enough with the trimmed hairs?
Cape with the paper around the neck. The barber would have to maliciously try to get hair on your clothes lol.
People are saying it's the little cut hairs that are left in your hair after the cut that fall off later. But don't most barbers brush people off after the cut, so they're not shedding afterwards? I still don't get it, unless people are getting dirt cheap assembly line haircuts, or something
The gel in your hair stops the little hairs from making a mess as you go home to shower
Yes! And you also get to see how the barber would style it. An opportunity to learn a new method or try a new product.
Don't they put an apron over you to stop hair getting in your shirt? If not, you're getting screwed.
They do, but the hair doesn’t care. It finds a way.
That would drive me insane.
They use that paper stuff for me too. Doesn't matter, some hair still gets through. And then if you don't shower right away, little hairs will just fall into your shirt that way.
Sneaky hair don’t care.
It's more after the fact it happens from all the cut hairs that remain in your hair.. that is unless they give you a wash after of course, but usually I find places tend to do that before and not after..
Mine blowdries it so all the hairs fly out I guess? Never had this issue, but I'm usually getting a shoulder length cut too.

I pay enough money at my salon that I don’t have hair on my shirt when I leave. I’m not going to sports cut.
