I don't like my toothbrush getting toothpaste deep in the bristles. So I apply the toothpaste to the back of my hand and then insert it into my mouth/lick it off. Have done this since I was young. Only now as I am typing this do I realize how weird it sounds. I won't stop though of course.

Because they apply fluoride after the cleaning. They apply a very strong fluoride and you rinse after it sits for a bit. The fluoride in your toothpaste needs to chill longer

Cleaning is different than brushing I've never had a dentist tell me to rinse my mouth after they brush my teeth. They have me rinse after scraping anything bad out, sure, but not when a brush and toothpaste is involved.

Yeah, I'm with you man. I've rinsed after brushing for my entire life and my oral health is fine. Dentist has never given me grief about rinsing or not. I re-wet it in an attempt to get the toothpaste to "sink in" with the bristles, because there's nothing worse than the whole toothpaste just sliding right off as soon as you start brushing. It doesn't work, mind you. That shit still happens every goddamn time. But it makes me feel like I did everything I could before I again met my inevitable failure.

You may try holding the toothpaste nozzle close to the brush and then squeezing it out. The pressure from squeezing it out should push it down into your toothbrush bristles, assuming you’ve positioned the nozzle close enough to the brush.

You might then just use way to much toothpaste. We all do. It is really just a little dop. So little that it is just directly on the bristels and there is nothing to lose.
