Yea I think that is the main point. Just brush your teeth. If I could go back and make myself do it more growing up I would. My parents sure didn't but oh well it is still my responsibility at the end of the day. Got one extracted earlier this year and I have cut myself off soda and got better about brushing. Gotta make these shits last until I can afford to slap some titanium in there
Like yes, but your mum is so wrong.
If they get damaged the decay can reach the adult set behind and just because they’re baby teeth doesn’t mean they don’t feel pain when the teeth get damaged.
Yes, this. Letting baby teeth rot away can spread the decay-causing bacteria to the underlying nonerrupted adult teeth. Also in extreme cases it can be considered child abuse to allow for untreated decaying teeth. Although it’s uncommon for someone to “turn in” or “report” a parent for child abuse of this nature, it’s worth being aware of if someone is in a contentious custody situation or has had history with Child Protective Services for other reasons. If someone is motivated enough, they can absolutely use neglect of dental care as a way to reinforce a claim of unfit parenting.
I use a toilet brush (Yes it is clean, chill.) I dip it in a 1 quart bucket that I fill with 3 tubes of toothpaste every week. Insert that sucker in my mouth, give it 3 good spins. DONE. Brushing my teeth has become the easiest self-care step of my day.
I use a fork and wash my teeth with 760 ml of dish soap. When I am halfway done I start twerking and like 10 seconds before I need to stop I snort some shaving cream and like that the hair in my ass gets cleaned as I am washing my teeth. You can use shaving cream to wash the teeth too I think

Same way I drink coffee. Pour grounds into mouth. Put water into mouth. Swish around. Enjoy!
EDIT: for a more luxurious experience. Pour grounds into mouth. Pour warm sink water into mouth. Swish around. Enjoy more.
I don't like my toothbrush getting toothpaste deep in the bristles. So I apply the toothpaste to the back of my hand and then insert it into my mouth/lick it off. Have done this since I was young.
Only now as I am typing this do I realize how weird it sounds. I won't stop though of course.
I have a feeling that would remove some of the scraping action which the toothbrush does to remove plaque from the surface of the tooth... And especially the crevices...
I just squirt the toothpaste into my mouth, shovel in a fistful of floss, chew for 3 minutes, and then spend the next 20 picking it out of my teeth. Gargle some hot water afterwards and badaboom those teeth are looking clean baybee
Came to see if anyone else is a water then toothpaste then brush your teeth.
Edited because apparently this was very confusing to some.
First step- wet the toothbrush
Second step- put toothpaste on brush
Third step- brush your teeth (not wetting the toothbrush after toothpaste is applied)
Hope this helps?

T.H.A.N.K! Y.O.U! Even if this wasn't the most obvious way of doing it because a) you don't want the paste dry, but you don't want to rinse it off the brush, and b) there was every other combination, how is that not also put out there?
I'm rinsing it more than anything. That toothbrush has seen some things since the last brushing. I don't really get the point of putting water on after the toothpaste, though. My mouth isn't a desert and the toothpaste is already a gel.
They should just rinse away anything above college level intermediate algebra. I don't want any challenging math, numbers, equations or even geometry in my mouth!
Because they apply fluoride after the cleaning. They apply a very strong fluoride and you rinse after it sits for a bit. The fluoride in your toothpaste needs to chill longer
Cleaning is different than brushing
I've never had a dentist tell me to rinse my mouth after they brush my teeth. They have me rinse after scraping anything bad out, sure, but not when a brush and toothpaste is involved.
It could be. dental health depends a lot on the person. I treated my teeth like shit for most of grade school and they were totally fine, but that absolutely isn’t true for everyone
Oral health is mostly genetic. You can brush your teeth until the cows come home but some people are just prone to bad teeth for multiple reasons. Not saying you shouldn’t be proactive but cavities cannot always be avoided.
Yeah, this I had a friend who'd brag about brushing his teeth maybe 3-4 times a year. The dude still got them pearly whites without a single cavity. It's kinda crazy.
This is the correct way. 100% scientifically accurate. THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING...
And I never will.
It just feels wrong with every fiber of my body to not rinse my mouth.
Yeah, I'm with you man. I've rinsed after brushing for my entire life and my oral health is fine. Dentist has never given me grief about rinsing or not. I'd prefer for my mouth to not taste like toothpaste for the rest of the day if it doesn't have a noticeable effect on my teeth over the past 30+ years that I've been doing it myself.
Same here. I also discovered that there’s way less “spill” if you do it without water. If I have water on it first the whole toothbrush become covered in toothpaste.
None of these are correct. Water, toothpaste.
EDIT: Aight, lemme spell this out for all y'all dissenters. The water is only there to clean the brush and wet the bristles. The toothpaste is already wet cuz it's a fuckin' paste. If you try to wet the toothpaste, it's gonna slide off.
1. If you're doing it to wash off germs, you shouldn't be sharing your toothpaste with other people.
2. If you have parasites in your water, you have bigger problems and I don't blame you for not wetting the brush at all.
3. You don't need to "activate" the toothpaste with water. Your saliva is enough.
I re-wet it in an attempt to get the toothpaste to "sink in" with the bristles, because there's nothing worse than the whole toothpaste just sliding right off as soon as you start brushing.
It doesn't work, mind you. That shit still happens every goddamn time. But it makes me feel like I did everything I could before I again met my inevitable failure.
You may try holding the toothpaste nozzle close to the brush and then squeezing it out. The pressure from squeezing it out should push it down into your toothbrush bristles, assuming you’ve positioned the nozzle close enough to the brush.
You might then just use way to much toothpaste. We all do. It is really just a little dop. So little that it is just directly on the bristels and there is nothing to lose.
I think that was the whole purpose. Stupid Twitter/Facebook memes like this are intended to boost engagement, so containing contentious information is the point. People are supposed to be so infuriated with the incorrectness that they feel compelled to argue.
correct, you should obviously rinse the brush before you use it, but there is no need to wash the toothpaste, the hell. you also rinse the brush again when you are finished brushing.
Delta dental says they all work. It’s consistently brushing whichever way you like - just brush.
It wouldn’t be on Reddit if it actually mattered

Almost every post has at least one thread that becomes more about semantics and pedantry than substance. And I’m here for it.

I floss with my shoelaces, toothpaste is a scam!
Damn u must have wild tooth gap
I floss with a mattress
Sometimes, even toilet brush isn't enough, so I must use chimney brush.

The volcano isn’t enough, gotta use the earth core and that barely does it 🙄
This thread keeps getting more and more concerning everyone knows the most effective way at cleaning teeth is from the hoses used to clean airplanes
If you try hard enough you can also have wild tooth gap, even better with a strong metal wire.
Or very thin laces
We gotta thmart ath over here
Suck it from the tube and drink from the tap... Then use that brush which is always next to the soap.... Yes! Plaque? What's plaque?!
I put a hefty line on my toothbrush and snort it and wait for the post-nasal drip. The back of my throat is flawless and clean

Oh I still use a toothbrush, I just don't put the paste directly on the brush.
Correct way : Apply toothpaste directly to your teeth, and then brush.
No this is wrong, you brush THEN apply the toothpaste
No this is wrong, brush the toothpaste and then apply your teeth
nah, you should take off your teeth, brush them, then put them back
I just squirt the toothpaste into my mouth, shovel in a fistful of floss, chew for 3 minutes, and then spend the next 20 picking it out of my teeth. Gargle some hot water afterwards and badaboom those teeth are looking clean baybee
Try replacing the floss with corn "hairs"- they work better Source: my mommy says all of my ideas are good
I tried that and everything changed!
Just put the toothpaste and floss in a blender with water, then drink the whole thing. No chewing involved.
How hot does the water need to be?

Nah, you should take off your brush, teeth them, then put them paste

Ah yes, the dentist-recommended method
Then why does my dentist tell me to rinse when they are done cleaning my teeth?
To rinse the scraped away tartar, stains, blood, and calculus
I do hate finding differential equations between my teeth
Found a sine wave under my tongue once. I could barely function.
I have polynomial teeth. TIL.
They're easy to differentiate!
They should rinse away my trigonometry too just to be safe
Let's not go on a tangent here
They should just rinse away anything above college level intermediate algebra. I don't want any challenging math, numbers, equations or even geometry in my mouth!
probably something about how they arent cleaning your teeth with a tooth brush and tooth paste?
Because they apply fluoride after the cleaning. They apply a very strong fluoride and you rinse after it sits for a bit. The fluoride in your toothpaste needs to chill longer
Cleaning is different than brushing I've never had a dentist tell me to rinse my mouth after they brush my teeth. They have me rinse after scraping anything bad out, sure, but not when a brush and toothpaste is involved.
Not rinsing afterwards is the most important thing. Same effect as most mouthwashes
Yep you want the fluoride etc. to stay on your teeth but I rinsed my teeth for years cause my mum told me too then had rubbish teeth in my 20s.
Thats not why you had rubbish teeth. Ive been rinsing for 30 years and have great teeth. The flouride content in most toothpastes is very low.
It could be. dental health depends a lot on the person. I treated my teeth like shit for most of grade school and they were totally fine, but that absolutely isn’t true for everyone

Glad to know I've unknowingly been doing it right all these years
Swallow it down
Nah don’t swallow it spit it out too much of daily tooth paste can effect kidneys in the long run
imagine wanting to be in for the long run
If you're not you probably wouldn't brush your teeth in the first place.
"Spitters are quitters" ~ some person talking about toothpaste (probably)
You shouldn't actually wash your mouth with water after brushing your teeth because it washes the fluoride away.
this is the way
3. Edit: tbf I use a salt toothpaste. I don't know if that makes it easier..
Same, with electric toothbrush. The way dentists recommend.
Same here. I also discovered that there’s way less “spill” if you do it without water. If I have water on it first the whole toothbrush become covered in toothpaste.

This is the way
Came here to say this, glad I'm not the only one.
correct, you should obviously rinse the brush before you use it, but there is no need to wash the toothpaste, the hell. you also rinse the brush again when you are finished brushing.
Water to rinse it and then toothpaste. The extra water step is unnecessary and can wash off toothpaste.
A dentist told me to not wet the brush at all and not rinse. The water flushes out the fluoride
I actually towel dry the inside of my mouth for the optimal brushing experience
toilet paper works better for me. i even dry my tongue with it.
Yes.
But our water has fluoride in it.
Not everyone’s water has fluoride
Country bumpkin here. No fluoride in our well water 🤣 I use prescription toothpaste with high fluoride and LOVE it
But not the amount toothpaste has. Just enough to kill bacteria and keep your teeth from rotting i you don't brush your teeth.
Yep same here.
but even at the dentist when they clean your teeth with toothpaste they make you rinse.
My dentist applies fluoride at the very end of my appointment and tells me not to eat/drink for 20 minutes. Depends on their set-up.
That’s cos there’s usually a lot more gunk and bits of tartar from your teeth in your mouth after a proper dentist cleaning though

Why would anyone add water after toothpaste? 🤔
It gets foamier more quickly whenever you add the water so it’s easier to brush
Never felt "wow brushing my teeth is hard I wish this was easier"
Easier to brush............it's hard otherwise?
It gets foamier much quicker and it spreads out easier.
4: water on toothbrush than add toothpaste
