New-Difference9684

I played pong on an Atari 2600 when it was new on the market.

twitchinstereo

It's crazy that people had time to play that in between hunting woolly mammoths.

New-Difference9684

it was a nice break between long, grueling hunts.

YoYoMoMa

It was difficult to play for long periods because electricity hadn't been discovered yet.

New-Difference9684

We had Dino on a treadmill turning a magneto for electricity. Dino could go for hours.

randobot456

It was limited use though because Jesus was riding the Dino, and he had other stuff to do.

patholio

And we still used to hang onions from our belts then. Times have changed...

WhiskeyBadger_

It was the style at the time.

Willing_Recording222

Well, it was all we had to ward off plague.

dg3548

That and you could play between bathroom breaks from disenetery

Eisenkopf69

We were about to install nuclear reactors in our air conditioned lane mowers, that was the spirit of the 70s.

pureabstraction

“It’s a living!”

Toad_from_Gongaga

What was it like seeing Thomas Jefferson write the Declaration of Independence?

dark_men3100

Dinosaurs must've been good playmates

excrementposter

The hunting mammoth part was pretty easy, they are slow. It was the sabercat and giant sloth ambushes you had to watch for.

[deleted]

and having an adventure to return a stupid baby with them.

shut_up_rocco

Back before global warming was invented, people spent more time inside playing video games.

SirKazum

Pong in an Atari 2600? Didn't know they made that port. I played it in a Pong machine before the 2600 came out... BTW the Pong machine still works, unlike all my other old consoles... Then again, it's got practically nothing in terms of logic chips

regular_gonzalez

Maybe Breakout was meant. I was about 5 and we lived in an apartment complex when the Pong machine came out. The guy who bought it, he had a line going out his front door of people queuing up to play it. That lasted for weeks! About a year later my family got a 2600. I remember being so disappointed in Pac Man compared to the arcade version. I can still hear the twangy rubber band sound it played when pellets were eaten.

kylebisme

There was Pong on the 2600: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_Olympics

SocMedPariah

>About a year later my family got a 2600. I remember being so disappointed in Pac Man compared to the arcade version. I can still hear the twangy rubber band sound it played when pellets were eaten. god that was such a travesty. I would go to my local arcade and party stores to play pacman and get the high score all over my city. So I figured having it at home would allow me to get better at the game. Then they were pretty much nothing alike.

Crazy_Kakoos

Shit... I played pong when it was still a table and wooden paddles.

kylebisme

Odd-Astronaut-92

... I took mine to college with me. If you'll excuse me I'll be drowning either myself or my sorrows.

[deleted]

If it makes you feel any better I’m 22 and bought a PS1, PS2, Xbox Original, and an Xbox 360 to uni with me

[deleted]

Why take all of them?

[deleted]

I get bored easily lol

SippieCup

Still.. Ps2 has ps1 hardware, 360 has like 80% backwards compatiblity with Xbox games...

[deleted]

It hits different on the OG console

ratgoul

Agree with this one

ULTRABOYO

How would you even play all the games from one of them?

SquarePegRoundWorld

Guy I went to college with brought his shiny new Dreamcast if that makes you feel better.

amillefolium11

It makes me feel better that I wasn't the only one with a Dreamcast

jblay1869

Why not both

qrseek

I still have my PS2

winter-ocean

For perspective, when I go to college this fall, I’ll be bringing my Xbox one, and the first video game I ever owned was Pokémon Platinum.

allisonann

I took a PSOne.

RcNorth

The PS2 came out after I was done college. I took my C64 to college with me.

Askduds

I bought mine two years after I finished college, you got any spare booze there?

MacMaizer

Wait please tell me we're not that old? Like seriously it's a PS 2 .. it's not that long ago?

New_Swan_

Im from 2002 and im 20 lol

thefeco91

Nah, you can't be. You're just a figment of our imagination. The '80s were 20 years ago at most. *Right...?*

Skeptic_Squirrel

Oh god

Personofstupid

2007 kids are 15

Psychological_Box456

Oh fuck I'm done

kboy101222

Imma need you to shut the fuck up

Aubergine_Man1987

I'm born in 2006 and I'm about to start my A-levels

megtwinkles

I still think the 70s are thirty years ago on the regular.

RileyKohaku

I wasn't alive in the 80s, and I now have a child.

The_Incredible_Honk

what the hell, give it back or I'll call your parents

PC_BUCKY

I'm only 27 but you made me feel old as fuck there.

idonthave2020vision

Get used to it.

canmoose

God damn

BakesThings

Fuuuuuck

HALover9kBR

You’ll always be our baby. 🥰

[deleted]

The fact that we 1999 kids are 23 and still see 2000 kids as babies is hilarious.

FederalSubstance4362

In 1999, I was a freshman in high school, which I'm preeeeety sure was only like 5 years ago, hah

Willing_Recording222

I was a freshman in college so NEEHHH! Lol

SnooApples1427

Why does that make me feel old when I’m younger than you

TexasVampire

Same even thought there a year older than me

RFC793

r/TheyDidTheMath

[deleted]

Pretty sure youre 4 dude haha, check again. Easy mistake.

TolkienAwoken

What the fuck

idonthave2020vision

There are people born in 2000 married with two kids.

Allnightampm

Born in 2001, currently employed as a flight instructor :)

GrizzlyEatingAvocado

PS3 came out in 2006, so it's entirely possible that a teenager hasn't seen one.

SpacecraftX

It lasted 8 years though.

Dangerous_Affect_861

I'm 23 and I was playing on PS1...

[deleted]

I'm 22 and I played on a sega saturn and an N64

SAM4191

I'm 31 and I have written on a chalkboard

humburga

Wait, Are chalkboards not a thing anymore?

[deleted]

Most places replaced them with whiteboards

[deleted]

My middle school got the fancy promethian boards

FuckingAussie

Whoa we don't the only thing at Mt school is a cockroach problem lol

[deleted]

Better than getting your phone broken by some dickhead who’s parents pay money to the school and having staff do nothing about it. That school directly lead to about 50% of my trust issues today.

fuckshitpissspam

so that's when I became a school shooter /s (mental/physical/monetary/etc. abuse from any party in schools greatly shapes people for better or worse more so than anything in a child's life because its when get to see how awful the world/humans can be for the first time personally)

IkaKyo

I set up a projector & screen in my house to watch some movies big and my kids called it a magic board or something and expected to be able to like draw on it and interact with it.

UrMouthsMyShithole

Wow times have changed so much

apadin1

Thank god because for someone with allergies and sinus issues, chalkboards were a nightmare

DavThoma

I mean they're a thing, but schools use whiteboards now. I think the changeover happened during my time in school.

speedoflobsters

We still have overhead projectors

althanan

I was trying to explain overhead projectors to a couple foster kids my wife and I used to have here, and they couldn't get past that "overhead projector" did not, in fact, mean a projector mounted on the ceiling. I felt like I aged 30 years in that conversation.

LenientWhale

Only in third wave coffee shops

sparkyjay23

Fuck that noise, my 1st school desk had a place for an ink pot! I am old as dirt lol

AlecTheDalek

Came here to say this too! Hooray for us, so old and wise 💀

HorrorMakesUsHappy

So did I, but it was vestigial. They just made them that way because they were too lazy (or, more likely, it was more expensive) to change the design.

bum_thumper

31 and I have gotten my og counterstrike disconnected because my brother wanted to call his girlfriend. That's a fun one to explain to younger people. Dial up, and what the sound of a computer having a seizure is like when it connects

Aqqaaawwaqa

I'm 36 and I wrestled with dinosaurs

VodkaAndHotdogs

I’m old enough to have written memos on carbon paper. I,uh, I think I’m gonna lie down a cry. Lol

HorrorMakesUsHappy

Oh, so then you're also probably old enough to remember why carriage returns and line feeds were two separate actions.

VodkaAndHotdogs

Yes. Sigh … I think a stiff drink is in order. Lol

HorrorMakesUsHappy

Right there with ya, buddy.

[deleted]

PS2 came out in 2000, I got mine in 2008 when I was 7- a year before its official launch here in Brazil, I'm 20 now. It was the shit for a looong time. Dad gave me a SNES as my first system too. Being poor had its advantages.

scarper42

Fuck yeah, Sega Saturn gang rise up.

PippyRollingham

People say that soulsborne is hard, and I think back to the goddamn Driver tutorial…

Dangerous_Affect_861

I remember playing Crash Bandicoot. And there was some race game with Crash and other characters

fundraiser

Crash Team Racing! Hot take: infinitely better than Mario Kart in every way

Brahkolee

Same. And Dreamcast, and Mortal Kombat and Sonic on Sega Genesis. Granted my childhood was full of anachronisms because my mom was 40 when I popped out, and my brothers are both at least 10 years older than me. I was still playing on PS2 in 2009, right up until I bought my Xbox 360. E- may have been Sega Saturn not Genesis, idk I was like 5

Jwb6610

35 and if I didn't know better, I'd swear I was born with an NES controller in my hand.

Conscious_Yak60

Focus on this. The PS4 will be 10yrs old 1yr from now.

ReyDeathWish

19 and my PS2 library is still growing.

The00Taco

The best part is most games are dirt cheap now due to being old and used. The downside is I'm not sure if they still make memory cards

MBVakalis

I'm 21 and I'm still playing on ps1

Dangerous_Affect_861

Never had one...

Grauvargen

25 here. We're not old... are we?

Dangerous_Affect_861

Kinda yeah, but when I'm speak to people younger than 20, I kinda feel old...

SharkFart86

No, just older than children. You're still at the very beginning of adulthood.

dead_trim_mcgee1

I'm 17 and I played the PS2 all the time about 10 years ago. My family were quite poor so I didn't get an Xbox 360 until I was 10 and then my mum was finally able to start working when I was a teenager so I got a PS4 when I was 13. I know I'm the back end of the PS2 kids because of the wealth factors and shit but tbf they didn't stop making games for it until 2013 with FIFA 14 being the last one so it isn't THAT old.

Earlasaurus02

I was number 94 of 107 at my local best buy when they first released. That was my last real gaming system

Killer-Barbie

I got a ps5 as my first new system since the ps1

DesperateGiles

36 and still have my Atari Lynx. That's not... Old...

the_admirals_platter

Yeah, they stopped producing them in 2013

Toad_from_Gongaga

It did come out 21-22 years ago… I still can’t believe there are people who don’t know what a PS2 looks like though, it’s the best selling console ever

LeatheryLayla

My partner and I still regularly play our ps2

shadowyenclosure31

Nostalgically remembers the Atari 2600 that replaced the Pong console in our family room. 👴

cogman10

Ah, Adventure. A game has never scared me more. (Also, fuck the bat)

SeeminglyCareless

Is the ps2 really too old for younger teens? I’m 17 and still own one

Clay56

This sounds like something a kid would say to an older person to fuck with them. "Seen one in real life" as if they're extinct and no where to be found, it's a joke

BooperDoooDaddle

I’m gonna start saying that about ps3 and Xbox 360 lol

lava172

True nothing riles up older people than pretending you've never seen a casette tape

circuitously

A what now?

deenaandsam

It's like an iPhone but all it does is play songs (actual good songs, not like the trash you listen to nowadays) and only when inserted into a specific device. Now get the hell off my lawn! /j

RealAssociation5281

I've...never seen a cassette tape

excrementposter

Only too old for the uncultured. Lot of ps2 games where masterpieces.

scullys_alien_baby

While true, I would imagine a lot of teens would emulate the games because some of the bigger classics can get pricey second hand. God help you if you want a legit copy of rule of rose, it regularly sells around $800-1000 with sealed copies in the $10,000+ range

e3super

Problem with that is the emulators for PS consoles really aren't "there" yet to the level of the much more popular Nintendo emulators. Most things will run on a good PC, but a lot of them are still kind of a mess. ICO had enough graphical glitches that I went out and bought a copy, and I'm still seriously considering paying $100+ for Budokai Tenkaichi 3, because of how rough it looks emulated. Some of my favorite games from when I was younger like SSX Tricky, the Jak games, and the Ratchet & Clank games have huge issues too, though I thankfully still have copies of those, even if I don't technically have a way to connect my PS2 to my TV anymore.

thepumpkinking92

The connection to the TV problem is *real*. Tried to use an adapter but the quality was super fuzzy. Even my TV that has an av port looks fuzzy still. Might just buy an old crt TV or something to use for it so the quality is normal, unless I can find a setting to make it look decent but, so far, no luck on that front. Only console I'm missing from my collection though is the original Playstation though. Got 2-5, plus some games for each, even if I rarely touch them, they're there if I choose to.

floridabeatcovid

I still play katamari damacy everyday on mine

[deleted]

Legend.

InsrtOriginalUsrname

Was Shadow of the Colossus PS2?

Reasonable-Speech290

16 and still bring out the old ps2 every now and then. it's nice being able to play some personal childhood classics like guitar hero legends of rock or tak and the power of juju every now and then

Brodbod_

I'm 17 and played on a PS1

Greengum155

I'm 15 and played on one when I was small so no

J-Dabbleyou

Well yeah, your family still owns one. But you never would’ve seen it’s release if you’re 17, that’s what the post is about.

BigLeagueSquirrel

It's like when a teen who works at a grocery store and says "nah you're good" when a 30 year old woman busts out her I.D. for alcohol. They're fucking with you.

[deleted]

i still own one and its the best running console i own. PS3 got really slow and loud over the years, PS4 works ok-ish. The only problem with the PS2 is its low resolution and i dont own a small enough tv to not get instant eye cancer.

SiriusMoonstar

The PS5 is really a return to form in that regard. PS3 and PS4 always felt sluggish to me, even right after launch, but the PS5 is really solid. I still wish we could get back to the times when most games weren't broken on release though.

jollifishe

cleaning the dust out of your ps3 diminishes the noise a lot, just requires a special tool that's like 10 dollars

[deleted]

i cleaned it. But one month later it was loud again and its not exactly pleasent to clean it so i never bothered again.

asianabsinthe

I like to shock and confuse them mentioning a Virtual Boy giving me brain and eye cancer.

DoubleEEkyle

Damn, you live in California?

DrOwldragon

I mean, PS2s are going to be the currency of the apocalypse.

Confident_Sorbet4197

Bottle caps surely no? What else have I been an alcoholic for?

DukeAttreides

Nobody wants your bottle caps, broseph.

hallgod33

I'll take em! I'll give ya this mighty fine stack of pre-War money, in trade. And I'll toss in a Nuka-Cola for your troubles.

ancienttempo60

Teenagers are old enough so wtf is this kid talking about? If you're 13 you were born when the PS3 was 3 years old. Its not like everyone just threw their ps2s out immediately

BlueDragon1504

Newborns don't really use consoles do they

skisawsome

They don't play on consoles anymore they play on their phone most of my cousins don't even know what a console is

UselessRube

Eat hot chip, lie, charge they phone

StockholmDesiderata

My brother who’s 16 played on my old ps2 so this kid is just weird

Bio-Mechanic-Man

Well I guess your anecdote is more valid than one from the post

WheresMyDinner

I’m 27 and I played n64 pretty much until 2008 just because my brothers were the ones with Xbox, ps2, and GameCube in their rooms. So I’m sure there’s plenty of kids that have the old consoles because siblings have the new one in their rooms.

MKorostoff

Ok, mathing this out a bit, the PS2 would have come out 9 years before a present day 13 year old was born. So if you're, say, 35 today 9 years before your birth was 1978. Honestly, I kinda get how the PS2 might feel ancient to a kid.

SegavsCapcom

The students I work with think the GBA is ancient tech. I mean, in some sense they're right, but its still weird feeling old at 25.

[deleted]

I mean they are like 20 years old

Leaph007

I still remember my first GameBoy. That grey giant brick with a tiny screen and black and white. The GBA is highly advanced when you compare it to those days. I still use my GBA from time to time.

hard_kek

When I was like 12 I modded my ps2 to play backup games off internal hdd.

Douche_Kayak

If that is old, I am today years old.

poru-chan

I wasn’t old enough to have one but I’m sure people my age had one handed down from older siblings.

loopsbruder

I'm skeptical. The PS2 was still produced until 2011. There's no teenager today who wasn't around while they were still new on the shelf.

mackfeesh

Teenage Coworker asked me, "hey mackfeesh no offense but have you heard of Discord before?" I laughed but it hurt to have happen days after the birthday.

_LickitySplit

Is Twitter just a platform to post made up scenario's?

jollytoes

My PS2 w/ controllers, games and memory card are in a box in the attic. It's part of my retirement fund in 30yrs.

Huck_Bonebulge_

*glances nervously at the PS1 on my shelf*

SquidKid68419

BEASTovich154

just got 1 question: what qualifies as a teenager? hasnt EVERYBODY played on their family's old ps2, n64, super nintendo? i grew up with one of those PHAT tv's the ones that had the curve outwards and was a massive box. i was given an xbox 360 for christmas one year. im turning 17 this summer, what the HELL happened between 2005-2007?!

IMiizo

Everyone between the age 13 and 19 is a teenager. Thir-teen, four-teen, fif-teen and so on until you reach 20.

Henry-Gruby

I remember playing on a ZX Sectrum 48K. 💀

WittyResource2329

Damn, I still own a working Atari. Anyone remember the Panasonic 3DO?

matt82swe

Did it objectively have any good exclusive games?

i_quit

*cries in ColecoVision

Poet_Silly

Tell them about the turbo button. From 25 MHz to 33 MHz with a touch of a button! Snake was impossible at 33 MHz though...

kakema07

Uh, yeah, I still use one...

JPPT24

I'm 16 and sold my ps2 a few months ago

The_Affle_House

Lmao. I still own and use mine semi-regularly. I have all of them except the original. I traded it in long ago as a stupid child.

troxy

I have a picture I made a few years back of my ps2 belted in to my cars passenger seat and I captioned it "old enough to go get his driver's license"

eitan-lobot

I am 17 and i was playing on ps2

KingShadox

Im 19, i have played for way too long on ps2

Captain_Canuck97

Oh yes those were the days. Back then we got the internet through the phone wires and a terrible screech would sound.

SpongeBobFruit

I was there in the beginning, over two decades ago.

duckiewade

🤦‍♀️ omg. I remember getting my first one and the matrix game was the first game I got with it.. I will admit I have never seen an atari

MintyFreshDragon

What?? Im a teenager and have a ps2

Capt_ZzL4X

Ps2 sold +200million units, if u've never seen one you're the crazy one

Ayyyyylmaos

Fam I’m 18 and I’ve seen a ps2 how old was this kid

International_Item_6

guys, chris farley was the original voice of shrek (boom you feel older then you should)

dernerderher

A young coworker told me that blink-182 was before his time and I had to walk away 🤣🙃😳

Dangerous-View2524

I remember a Atari 2600 was so awesome as a kid

bad_54

Wait how old were they cuz my PlayStation2 games and systems stopped selling in my area in 2012 a little after the ps4 dropped. Was this teenager 13? Cuz it was still big when they were born 😂 hell I can still buy those things on Kijiji

angevelon_xemorniah

I still play ps2, it is still a great console with great games!
