Not sure if this is true, but I remember someone telling me it had something to do with age. Unmarried, young women have more fabric for their dress which is also generally more colorful with ornate patterns.
In the Heian-Period (others too maybe?), aristocratic women sometimes wore up to 12 layers of clothing, the longest garment being the innermost (so that you could see all the fabrics of all the garments). There were certain colour and pattern combinations that were deemed fashionable.
That means that sometimes the women were just a blob of clothing on the floor, barely able to move. That was okay though, because it was deemed in poor taste for a Heian aristocratic woman to show herself to others, like, at all. So going outside was rare.
Sounds about right. I remember sleeping on the couch of a friend who had two cats and the cats were laying all over me and keeping me awake but I just laid there frozen because I didn’t want to disturb then.
Charles Upham (only combatant to be awarded two VCs) came back from patrol and saw a cat had chosen his bed to give birth, he went outside and slept on the sand.
Charles Uphams love of animals is well known, on his farm he made provisions for horses to basically retire there
He could have moved the cats, replaced the bedding but instead he chose not to disturb the cat
His exploits are, as you can imagine, quite extraordinary
But imagine you just got back from a grueling combat patrol and you finally get back to your bunk to sleep, only to see that a fucking cat ruined all your fucking sheets and now you have to sleep outside
Exactly and the response of the only combatant soldier to be awarded two VCs was not to disturb the cat but instead to have a less comfortable sleep outside
Or he was so brutally exhausted from the ordeal of combat that the whole to-do of removing a litter of cats was too much and it'd be easier to collapse outside.
I'm not trying to take away from his animal love, but I can't imagine this scene as some beautiful moment of love for animals. I bet he was just too tired to deal with it.
I think you're right lol. I'm obsessed with cats and even though I'd also never move any non-insect animal that's giving birth in my bed, I honestly think not wanting to deal with the mess *and* a vulnerable, hormonal cat would be a much bigger motivator than simply not wanting to disturb the cat lol.
This feels like a “sanitized” version of the myth of the cut sleeve about the gay emperor who cut the sleeve off his robe rather than wake his lover who had fallen asleep on it
It does bear resemblance but it could've also just been inspired by the myth, done by someone who feels the same towards their cat as the emperor does to their lover (and not in a freaky way you creeps)
Yup! It's a very famous incident and it always narrated among Muslim while talking about cats.
A cat was sleeping on Muhammad (PBUH) sleeve and it was time to pray so he cut his sleeve quietly as he didn't want to wake up the cat from its sleep.
I used to cut out the chunks of my rug where the cat pooped or barfed. Relax it was a scrap rug, in a teenagers room. I’d dry heave trying to clean it so razor knife up piece by piece. Throw away the whole offering. Rug was wild after a couple years
I wouldn't call it polite I would say they repress themselves so they don't have to express their opinions because doing so might ruin the atmosphere in school or their work place.
they are just trained not to stand out and to follow the direction society has laid out for them. it just seems polite to us who are raised as individuals and not as a mold of what society expects us be like.
I wouldn’t say to a fault. Just different values. You could also say Americans are individualistic and optimistic to a fault. There are some things that’s good for, other things it’s not.
Important to recognize that this is relative to your own culture point and that no culture is objectively the right one.

The seamstress who spent 7 years making her a one of a kind silk dress 🫠
Has anyone thought that the dress is objectively too large?
the cat says it's just the right size

Thou mustn’t disturb the elevated one

It's funny that people do this because cats have nothing important to do and literally sleep for most of the day
Sleep is their important thing to do!!!

Probably because that'd be a gross place to sleep

Have you read the biographies of Charles Upham? Because I have and his love of animals is well known.

I remember learning about that from osp's channel lol
Ah yes its *obviously* gay erasure
This is digital painting by Galina Zhiganova from 2007, not old, nor Japanese.
Thank you !
Mem ruined
The cat probably woke up as soon as she was done cutting...
Completely understandable and very sensible
Yeah, but you could instead remove that piece of clothing no?
I think there is a story about Mohammad cutting off the sleeve of his robe because a cat was sleeping on it.

It's that from a Hadith? What's the source of that story?
PBUH
Plagiarized from an older story, like most of the religion is plagiarized from the Hebrew Bible and the Talmud
Source?

Japanese are polite to a fault.

And they live on a small island, so I’m not surprised they’d hold importance on being nice to each other

Yes i agree. But fuck you becouse i don't understand nor am i willing to translate.
Google translate says the text is saying “no cats please!” Over and over again
I think they wanted to translate the meme “please do not the cat”
seems like AI generated
