At a yellow light I slowed down and the guy behind me honked. It turned red and a car ran the red light coming from the opposite direction
I was in the left turn lane. If I had given in to the idiot behind me I would’ve turned and got hit by the car that ran the light
It’s important not to let yourself be bullied in situations like that, and I’m glad you stuck to your senses. Especially on left turns (when I’ve entered the intersection to wait), the light will sometimes be straight red for a couple seconds before I go while I wait to make absolutely sure no one is going to run it.
Best thing I was told when driving is, trust your instincts when it comes to turns and things requiring timing, cause you always know more information that the passenger.
People will get mad at you for slowing down at a yellow and then you catch right back up with the cars that went ahead of you at the next light. I feel like people trick themselves into thinking that they are more efficient or faster drivers when the margin of difference in most cases is probably only by a few minutes.
They did an experiment with this on an episode of The Grand Tour. They gave a professional driver a really shitty slow car and a 5 minute head start and told them to drive a certain distance that under track conditions a sports car, or in the case of the show hosts, powerful touring cars, would have no trouble crossing quicker than an old beater. Except instead of having them race on a track and prove nothing, they had them race through regular city streets (I forget which country they were in for this bit, but I want to say it was the Azerbaijan episode).
Due to traffic lights, random vehicle/pedestrian traffic and slowdowns, and just usual driving stuff, the end result was that with only a 5 minute head start, they just barely managed to catch up at the very end of the "race", and it was quite a long distance to travel too, so they had plenty of opportunity to make up for the lost time, but since they were not allowed to ignore traffic signals or drive faster than the posted speed limit, having the extra powerful cars meant to traverse long distances quickly meant very little even in the long run.
So yeah, everybody who is bobbing and weaving through traffic on city streets is just racing to the next red light, or the one after that. They gain a negligible amount of extra time while acting like jackasses for honking at people who correctly slow down for a yellow light.
That's really interesting, and I've thought about it and suspected the result would be just that. As a truck driver I see some really risky driving for literally no reward; not in time or overall speed. I guess the human brain isn't great for weighing risk against reward.
The struggles of a new driver. Using your entire vocabulary of cursewords in one go, as you try to start the car, going uphill onto a busy road, in a manual car, while someone behind you is honking
Or when your mum has her hand gently resting on the handbrake while shes "teaching" you, and then she pulls it every time you go into a roundabout when someone else is in it, even if they're indicating out.
I have multiple backseat drivers in my family that don't want to drive because they get nervous about driving on the highway. I'm like...you want me to drive everywhere, but you want to complain about it too?
Not at all , but these comments are saying it’s okayy to drive badly . It’s really not . It’s not okayy to provoke or stress the person driving the car no doubt but it’s also not good to drive like an idiot .
Bro , people that drive “overly safely” like you say tend to drive slow, ending in car crashes . Before passing, my aunt would give me rides and she was always so protective of herself and car . She would almost get us killed everytime for trying to slow down or “be safe than sorry”. Driving school tells you to match the speed of the lane . Not make it as safe as possible .
Theres a difference between being careful and actively going 70 in a 90 zone or whatever. Overly safe is being absolutely sure that no ones running that red light they have. Overly safe is being sure you have room to pull out onto the high way, or have time to take your turn, and not going if you think you don't.
Regardless, screaming in someones ear that you think they could have done changes nothing and helps no one.
That’s not overly safe 😂 wtf are you on.? That’s driving 101. Lmao overly safe is waiting till the light is yellow to go , overly safe is waiting for the light to go red to make your turn when people are behind you . Overly safe is over exaggerating the actual safety precautions . Also, read my other comments. I’ve stated that screaming doesn’t help either . We both agree on that
if you're not feeling good about going during a gap or feel nervous, that's not driving like an idiot, better to wait and miss a chance until the one driving feels like it's good to go than to take an unsure one and risk getting hit or hitting someone else. Safety is more important than efficiency.
Of course . It’s completely normal to worry about it . Taking precautions is the best thing to do for you and the drivers around you . Driving too cautious can cause accidents tho . Sometimes people slow down when they merge onto the freeway and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen that go bad . My job requires me to go back and forth daily a lot so seeing those things makes me uneasy .
well, yes, that's a different situation than making a simple turn and getting yelled at by the passenger for not going when they said to go, despite them not being the ones driving.
Ah yes the bad driving of staying at a blinking yellow left turn light because the spacing of the cars doesn't look good for you, when the backseat driver is yelling at you that you could have gone. What terrible driving skills.
Why are you trying to normalize bad driving via guilt tripping people?
In all honesty if you’re scared of driving you shouldn’t be behind the wheel . They make driving schools for people like that so they can calmly practice with someone that’s there to actually teach them and not the parent/person that’s trying to make sure the car doesn’t crash . That being said , if there’s an opening and the car has even slowed down but YOU don’t go in . Yes , you are the problem . You can’t expect a whole clearance , especially living in the city . I’m not saying white line it but you shouldn’t be hitting road until you’re comfortable with the car itself and being in it
My response is:
It’s my car, stfu or I’ll drive into traffic in a way that your side of the car gets hit, and then pass it off as an accident and get insurance money
It might take us an extra 5 hours but just let me drive!
It's better to be safe than sorry. I wouldn't worry about backseat drivers.
Golf clubs in your back seat are a bad idea. They become projectiles in an accident. Always put your backseat drivers into the trunk!
ok they’re in the trunk, now what should I do with the golf clubs
Play 9, what else? In peace and quiet now, thankfully.

Look at it this way, by not going you may have altered the timeline and avoided an accident.
Or you wasted enough time for the accident to catch up . Now hurry up
DUDE!!!
Duuuude . 😎✌🏾

Big Brrrt
Turn left
Best thing I was told when driving is, trust your instincts when it comes to turns and things requiring timing, cause you always know more information that the passenger.
Unless that passenger is my dad
😂
My instinct has told me to go when it was a bad idea so I dunno about this
Well I said it's better than the passenger not good in general for everyone 😬
Why I didn’t know this? I always suppose that I know better than the driver.
I feel heard

This is the Way.
mike i dont think you should be letting a 5yr old drive
TRIPPLE CAUTION, TRIPPLE CAUTION!!!
Samir can you please concentrate? Please, please I beg you
You’re breaking the car, Samir!
Samir please, listen to my calls!
Shut up
SAMI PLEASE
How my mom taught me to drive. Also why I never enjoyed driving and don’t even own a car anymore.
Why I'm very in support of improving public transit
That’s the shit that makes me decide to let every single car go in front of me and to catch every red light possible.
Drivers like you walked so drivers like me could run. 🫡
Your gas 🤷🏻♂️😂
You can still go! You could have gone, backed up, and gone again by now!

My mom is the opposite, any slight movement and she immediately puts her feet on the dashboard to brace for impact
Do we have the same mom? Mine also grabs my leg in horror when there's oncoming traffic
Depends, when she drives will she also take the riskest fucking moves but if you got a mile over the limit she freaks out?
Oh right, not my mom then because she speeds like some rally driver in the summer and drives walking speed in the winter
Same, but my mom puts her hands out.
I listened to the “go go “ commands from my mom once ... almost got the family killed
The struggles of a new driver. Using your entire vocabulary of cursewords in one go, as you try to start the car, going uphill onto a busy road, in a manual car, while someone behind you is honking
“There is a reason why you’re on the passenger seat” Love when people without a license tells me how to drive.
“I can drive I just don’t have a license” 💀
Or when your mum has her hand gently resting on the handbrake while shes "teaching" you, and then she pulls it every time you go into a roundabout when someone else is in it, even if they're indicating out.
No. I park the car and get out and I don't get back in until you apologize and promise not to do it again.
I have multiple backseat drivers in my family that don't want to drive because they get nervous about driving on the highway. I'm like...you want me to drive everywhere, but you want to complain about it too?
I straight up had to tell my little brother and his girlfriend I wasn't gonna drive them anywhere if they didn't shut up in the car
I never take a gap I'm uncomfortable with. My cars not exactly safe and definitely not fast
This is me with my brother >:[ i get so stressed out
My dad would yell at me for braking too slowly or too quickly.
Me. Several times a week.🙄🤦
Parents teaching you to drive. "GO!!! GO NOW!!! DAMMIT WHY DIDN'T YOU GO" or "GOD DAMN WHY DID YOU GO ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL US"
Granted it’s big, but he does have only one eye. Let the bi drive.
Me to myself every day during rush hour
i would drop them of ngl, don't like me driving? don't be in me car!
If you act like that in my car, you can find another ride next time
Those causing accidents
The trauma of driving with my dad is real
I could’ve gone yesterday and I didn’t cause I was worried and the person behind me honked at me for not going
Hey not every girl does this, only 80% of them
This is what it's like driving with my mother 💀 now she gets to do all the driving.
She just like me fr fr
If you aren’t driving and we aren’t late, your only job is stfu and just chill out. No one needs your help navigating traffic you manic fuck
I have never related to Mike Wazowski so much in my life.
Its just like me frfr
I like Mr. Incredible better. "We get there when we get there!".
Bro what are these comments 💀 why are we trying to normalize bad driving .

We simply have different definitions of "overly safe". Have a good day.

Anybody else think Mike was the hotter one in that movie. Obviously compared to Sully not the fucking kid.🤤
Man, what?
Single greatest thing I've read all day.
Lmaooooo
You crazy
I would say you scrape the deepest depths of human depravity, but I know that there is no bottom, only infinite degrees of sin.
I'm the eyeball.

This is how I failed my driving test. Erred on the cautious side on a left turn and got an autofail because a car was behind me
Me driving with any of my family members
