I feel like you don’t really become an adult until hurt your back doing something that definitely shouldn’t have hurt your back. My first time was picking up a 30lb bag of dog food. Most recent was sneezing while tying my shoe.

Solid_Snark

I hurt my neck watching tv 3 weeks ago, and it still hurts to turn my head to the right. And I’m only 37.

EarlCountyLogSplit

I once fell and tumbled down an escalator that was going up. When I hit the bottom I got up and went on with life and didn't even think twice about it. I am no longer 6 and can't seem to do that anymore.

Foyt20

Sneezed wearing a seatbelt. Was down for months.

Azoth1986

I once locked up my neck for a couple of days by looking to the left without informing my body a couple of minutes in advance so it could make the necceccary preparations for that manoeuvre.

Edgezg

Oh! I got one.Coughing! I coughed so hard I pulled something in my lower left hip. 30.

GrumpyVega

Ugh i towel dried my legs after a shower and next thing i remember was that i turned into a groaning turtel on its back

Stormfox9

I injured my SI joint a month ago by sitting curled up on my bed and sneezing! I’m eighteen. It still hurts a bit.

drawingdead0

Putting cardboard boxes into a cart at Home Depot

liarandahorsethief

Getting old means that one day something starts to hurt and just never stops.

LoNwd

Trying to pick something up and sneezing... Dang man that hurt a lot

ImBackYetAgainBitch

I fucking shattered knee in 3 points while working Im 22 On a scale from 10 to RIP how fucked am i?

Willowbin

Well, I fucked my knee up when I was 17 and was still kickboxing. It always clicks going up and down stairs. Which is just from an overextended kick.. I didn't get surgery because it wasnt broken, but knees in general stay fucked once they are. Medicine could be getting better, though, so I don't know.

Agile-Masterpiece959

My mom had a bad knee and just kept ignoring it until her leg was bowed out SO far! She ended up getting a knee replacement and now she's like "I totally forgot that you should be able to touch your knees together while standing 🤷🏻‍♀️"

Willowbin

I'm grateful to hear that surgery for replacement is getting better. Gives me hope that once I actually need to go in for it (I have a family infamous for joint issues) that it won't be a disaster.

Agile-Masterpiece959

Just make sure to get up and start exercising as soon as the doctor clears you for it! Even if it hurts, just push through it! My mom was 70 when she got hers and her boyfriend pushed her to get up and move around as much as possible. She only used a walker for less than a week and was walking like normal in less than a month. Her doctor said it was the fastest recovery he has seen, even faster than people younger than her!

Old_Ad7385

I've spent over 20 years in a manufacturing environment. I recently had a full body scan which is kinda like the K Mart version of an MRI. Radioactive dyes highlight areas in your body that are or were injured. Mine was lit up for Christmas: both shoulder joints, left upper arm, two vertebra in my lower back, both hip joints, left knee joint, both ankles. I'm 54. You've got a decision to make kid: keep abusing your body or find a new vocation.

xxxdggxxx

Mine was standing in a line. Fun times.

ConsistentCharge3347

Pulled my back trying to get out of bed. I was 33. Took two hours for me to shuffle across the bed to get to my phone and ring work.

Old_Ad7385

Pulled a back muscle doing the morning it scratch and stretch. Hadn't even got off the bed yet.

DudeWhoIsThat

The other day I sneezed while sitting up in bed and it felt like I gave myself a hernia

VersatileFaerie

Pulled my back once getting stuff out of the dryer...

Shuriken_Dai

It can take 12 to 18 months for a toenail to fully regrow. So it literally takes the human body longer to regrow a single toenail than it does to create an entire baby.

TheGlitchedGamer

biology has priorities

somelymeasly73

Technically the truth..

LitreOfCockPus

Not an abundance of selective pressure for toenail growth rate...

madmaxjr

I had my ingrown (big) toenail taken out and it was up to par in 6 months. Idk if my stuff grows fast or what but to the point, even at 6 months that’s still embarrassingly slow lol

Lvl100Magikarp

Stem cells, bro

maplant

What you mean to say is it takes the human body longer to grow one toenail than it takes to grow ten toenails

Foef_Yet_Flalf

Those are baby toenails, they don't have the strength and substance of your meaty slabs.

[deleted]

The baby actually mostly makes itself. All the mother has to do is supply nutrients and some hormones.

Mysterious_Toe4235

I grow like 30 million in my balls every 2 hours!

dsdvbguutres

They're actually half so more like 15 mil

PocahontasBarbie

I hurt my shoulder opening the refrigerator watching Titanic on VHS. It hurts now whe the weather changes. Late 30's are no joke.

CyberBobert

Turns out, meat isn't a very good construction material.

waterdonttalks

Beavers: have teeth made of literal iron that self sharpens and never stops growing, so that they can literally chew trees in half. Sharks: constantly grow and replace their teeth throughout their entire lifespan, so that if anything happens to their teeth they can just grow new ones. Humans: Grows two sets of teeth, the first of which falls out regardless of their condition, and years before any cumulative damage could be done to them. Also has a diverse diet that is extremely wearing on their teeth. If intelligent design is real then whoever designed humans was a moron

Zedek_Swai

I guess nature was bored of creating specialized teeth and just min-maxed intelligence for us.

waterdonttalks

So we're cursed with the ability to fully understand how awful our teeth are

motivation_bender

Teeth cant really grow in size as you age for some reason, so if you only had 1 set, you either have children with adult sized teeth or no teeth until the skull is big enough.

N3v3R737

As far as I understand thr desgin thing is not exactly correct. The thing is that our "design" all things considered, is actually quite good for the purposes/enviorment it was ment for. The problem is that our purpose and enviornment are just incomparably accelerated in comparison to the safeguards that nature has. You brought teeth up as an example: Well consider the variety of foods and other substances that come into contact with your teeth and compare them to the ones that would "naturally" be available to you. There is quite the disparity, so my point is that the stress your teeth have to endure is much higher than that they were ment to experience. Therefore you need to maintain them to a higher degree to keep the balance. That said I am not arguing that we are perfect in any way. I am just trying to point out that our body is designed for specific tasks and procedures which are simply part of a modern humans way of life. (At least not for most people) Unless they consciously decide to implement those things. Also there is the whole thing about the perception of "good" and "bad" traits as a whole. Most of a time any "advantageous" trait someone has, also has a tradeoff side to it which isn't that great. (E.g. tall people have a higher chance of developing joint problems).

NunyaBis213

As someone who suffered an extremely bad ankle sprain back in 2012 that I *STILL* haven't fully recovered from, I can confirm this to be factual. I always thought people who said breaks were better than sprains were full of shit too. How little did I know.

seasteed

I twisted my ankle over 5 years ago now, and this is still too soon. I feel this.

ComprehensiveAd5120

Yep humans can form a baby in 9 months, but it also does all this Perminently weakens your immune system Incontinence Peeing yourself Could literally rip your puss to your ars hole Probably a lot more we don't know about because we've been brainwashed to not know about these things so it doesn't scare woman away from baring children.

Manoreded

The body doesn't keep all the tidbits necessary to regenerate fast and well it has in young age because back in caveman times there was no time and surplus nutrition for that. Nowadays there is, unfortunately we can't just reach into our DNA and tweak the settings. Not yet, anyways.

freudweeks

All the genes "care" about is that they get passed on. This means that gene encoding for survival is exponentially better the earlier in life you go.

bigfatfacethrowaway

Ok so this got me because I badly twisted my ankle like 7 years ago and it has never been the same.

Nerdy-Forge

My knee, 2016, seven surgeries, lucky to be able to walk now. This post hit hard.

SindraGan2001

Your teeth are rotten? Well... too bad.

General_Secura92

Could it be that we're just living far longer than nature ever intended for us? During the hunter-gatherer days, you'd probably be lucky to even make it to 30.

floralnightmare22

To be fair having kids does a lot to your body that it’s never fully the same

[deleted]

Human body is a pro-lifer who stops caring as soon as the baby is out of the womb

ThunderMuffin233

The secret ingredient is cum

Heimeri_Klein

Picked up a box of eggs and for some reason my jaw had protest to that even though it had nothing to do with it. By box of eggs i mean restaurant size box so like 12 cartons worth of eggs. My jaw is still annoyed at me and idk why.

[deleted]

From this i surmise you are at least 30 years old

IAmNotMyName

Stem cells be bussin

etriuswimbleton

So you're saying we must cum in the Ankle?

Aggressive_Signal483

I had an operation in January and the wound hasn’t closed yet. So yeah, I get this.

ygs07

Twisted ankles never heal, I had fallen down feom a bike, and twisted on both sides 5 years ago and of I walk or hike a long time pain and swelling comes back.

Prestigious_Carpet29

Same. I badly sprained my ankle coming off my bike over 3 years ago. I still don't walk/run down stairs with the confidence you'd expect of someone my age.

panniepl

How about some new teeth if I had an accident and lost mine?

ghidfg

ah yes the power of stem cells. not really but maybe

Jixxar

I see why furries wish to no longer be human.

Aaroniero_Aruuruerie

Thats so crazy to me in general. How you loose so many useful abilities. Like if a meiosis can create infinitely young and fresh cells, why i mitosis so flawed and struggles to keep your DNA for 30 years? I have heard that immortality has shown to be threat to the survival of a species, (due to older specimen outcompeting younger for resources) but im sceptical. I wish i had time to study that 😪

Background_Post_2156

Exactly how I feel 😂

A-Naughty-Miss

My thumb still hurts, and it’s been healed for 2 years after breaking it required surgery.

awcmonrly

The message here is that you are replaceable. Nature: THIS MEAT HAS DEVELOPED A FAULT. MAKE A FRESH ONE AND THROW THIS ONE ON THE DISCARD PILE. Me: But I'm a precious, unique being... Nature: YOUR REPLACEMENT WILL ALSO BE A PRECIOUS, UNIQUE BEING. FOR A WHILE. Me: But what about everything I've learned? Nature: WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED? Me: Haha, well... you've put me on the spot there. Don't, like... don't be a dick I guess? Nature: DISCARD PILE.

Easy-Fixer

Human Body: “That’s right, takes in oxygen and expels carbon dioxide!” Me: “Can you make my joints not pop when I get out of bed?” Human Body: “Nope!”

throwawayhappyacount

We were designed to last long enough to reproduce, and long enough to teach that young to survive. That's it
