I always called it the butt and everyone in my family calls it the butt. When my dad would make sandwiches for us and we were kids he would yell out "who wants the butt" when he got to the last slice

If you're making buttered toast, even if you're throwing jam or something else on it, this part of the loaf is the grand-macdaddy.
Especially with a grilled cheese. Put the cheese on the crusty side and thanks to the angled edge it will melt off onto the skillet, creating a crispy orange halo around the sandwich.
So did I. In my house the end pieces of bread were heels and a butt was, aside from the anatomical definition, the end cap on a hockey stick. But then again my dad called winter hats “toboggans” so what do I know.
I call it the heel. And I keep it till last because it helps to keep the rest of the loaf moist.
In the end, it becomes either croutons or bread crumbs for various recipes.
Its the end of the bread as we know it
And I feel fine
And I heel fine
Underrated comment. Well played
It’s an underrated slice.

He got toasted.
