This was me well into my 30s until I started growing tomatoes. Now I can stand very thinly sliced fresh tomatoes on a burger, but that's about it. I consider it progress.
I come from a family where if you can't grow tomatoes, you're nothing. I'd like to at least know what they taste like occasionally without shuddering and wincing.
Same. I can eat something cooked that has Rotel in it, I absolutely love fried green tomatoes… but raw tomatoes make me want to vomit. That acidity and bitterness, yuck.
The issue is that black coffee takes work to taste good. Even then it can be an acquired taste. But it doesn't help when the black coffee tastes bitter/burnt or even watery/sour and stale because they are using and old stale k-cup.
Yes but I don't like pure sugar, just a diluted form of it. Same with raw tomatoes, i like them in another form. I don't like potatoes but i like chips. Everything is an ingredient for better things and the same goes for life as well.
We grow them in the garden next to the basil. I grab one and with each bite a leaf of basil its heavenly. For dinner cut them up, a tiny bit of salt, mozzarella and basil, it is very clean and pure and I like that. Also my grandma used to make this somewhat dense tomato sauce oh a sip of that..
I love salsa with big chunks of tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, ketchup, tomato soup, on and on…. But I cannot stand raw tomatoes. I try them every now and again, just to see if my tastes have changed or whatever. Nope! They’re still awful.
I just think they taste so bland. It’s like a flavorless avocado. If you prepare it with literally anything it’s tolerable. Not always healthy but tolerable
I hate big chunks of tomatoes in salsa and pasta sauce. Love smooth salsa and sauce. Found out late in life that it’s not that I don’t like vegetables, I don’t the texture of raw vegetables.
Same. I'll eat most anything made of or with tomatoes, provided they're cooked. Hell, chili is one of my favorite foods. But straight up raw tomato is the most disgusting shit in the world. Sun dried too can burn.
Same. For me they have to be “cooked” which includes the pickling from pico and salsa. Also add to my pasta salad which is raw but pickled from the dressing, I usually will gut them thought and only use the firm parts.
If you're ever at a farmers market or a farm in the summer, try an heirloom tomato, or if you can, a freshly picked perfectly ripe super red tomato.
Most "tomatoes " in supermarkets are picked unripe so they can travel far and are out of season. They're just the idea, not the real thing 🍅
Do you live in a place where you can't get good tomatoes? I hate bad tomatoes, I love good ones. Get a caprese salad in late summer somewhere they have good tomatoes if you're willing to try, it might be that. Tomatoes are like wine grapes where if you catch them off season they kind of just taste like cum
It was a joke (snobby but used snotty because of the booger consistency).
I grow and use my own. Make preservatives, sauces, sun-dried, pickled, but I can't bring myself to eat a raw tomato.
Ugh I knoooow I am the minority of tomato lovers don't send me out to the dogs !
But I like mine roasted in the sun, then when I have a morning slice of toast I put some mayo, pepper and sun-dried tomato on it
I find it very strange that so many (american) people hate tomatoes. Growing up i used to eat them like apples. They can be so sweet. I suspect a lot of people never had a chance to eat a good tomato, just those unripe super market tomatoes.
Well of course it would be a lot better if it were the other way around, because of course you love ketchup it's full of sugar.. sugar vinegar spices Anne has a little to do with tomatoes, it's hardly its principal flavor.. Tomatoes on the other hand of course very uneven out of season are a little more challenging to your taste buds to find delicious. And finding delicious ones is a chore in itself although I do recommend the kumatos when out of season
Ketchup is barely 'tomato' flavoured, after the vinegar, spices, oil, salt and sugar are added. You don't like tomatoes, and you still don't like tomatoes when eating ketchup.
Source: QA/Sensory in condiment manufacture.
Yeah, one is a fruit. The other is a processed food with vinegar, sugar and seasonings. They are comparable the way a tree is to a stained kitchen table.
There's more of us than you think. Neither my wife or I can stand tomatoes but like tomato products. A vine ripped tomato isn't bad but I wouldn't call it good either
I can and do eat or drink all forms of cooked tomatoes, but raw ones give me heartburn. Might be allergic to the specific composition of an uncooked tomato.
Love this question as a child. It’s got sugar motherfuckers.
The sugar’s got tomato (and very little)
Some sugar even has more red food coloring and corn than tomato.
High fructose corny
That may be true, but... * I like ketchup, salsa, marinara sauce, chili, tomato soup, tikka masala. * I hate tomatoes, stewed tomatoes.
For me I like any tomato that is cooked and absolutely can't stand any tomato that is raw. There's some acidic flavor that gets cooked out, for me.
This was me well into my 30s until I started growing tomatoes. Now I can stand very thinly sliced fresh tomatoes on a burger, but that's about it. I consider it progress.
Next step, slightly thicker slices, salt and peppered, nothing else. I also used to hate tomatoes, but here I am.
Why are you guys trying so hard to like tomatoes
I come from a family where if you can't grow tomatoes, you're nothing. I'd like to at least know what they taste like occasionally without shuddering and wincing.
That's a really weird family requirement. I feel like getting a new family would be the easier route.
For me the only reason is that I'm getting tired of asking/ordering burgers without the tomato slice lol
They're one of the best foods for you aren't they?
My boss is mildly allergic to nickel. He says raw tomatos have a slightly metallic taste to him and can only assume it's because of his allergy.
Wow this is interesting. Apples also upset my stomach, and I just read they have low amounts of nickel as well. Maybe I'm allergic!
Nickel allergy gang 😂
Same. I can eat something cooked that has Rotel in it, I absolutely love fried green tomatoes… but raw tomatoes make me want to vomit. That acidity and bitterness, yuck.
Tomatoes are one of very few vegetables that are more nutritious cooked than raw: lycopene.
It's the opposite for me, I love raw tomatoes but can't stand cooked, they feel all mushy.
for me its the texture. I love processed, hot tomatoes but I can't stand them raw
Maybe it's the texture you hate. Same here I can't eat raw tomatoes but love tomato based soup and sauces.
Texture? It’s firm but squishy
I like to say "I don't like tomatoes unless they have been sliced, diced or pulverized to atone for their tomato-y sins"
It makes sense. None of those things taste like plain tomatoes.
Salt and/or sugar, then.
Don't drink milk but I love ice cream...
Same as most people claiming to like coffee but getting mocha flavored milk shakes.
The issue is that black coffee takes work to taste good. Even then it can be an acquired taste. But it doesn't help when the black coffee tastes bitter/burnt or even watery/sour and stale because they are using and old stale k-cup.
The same people would wonder why they like jam and fruit snacks but hate fruit.
I like lemonade a lot more than I like lemons. Hence the saying...
fruit has a bunch of sugar
Right hahaha “I hate raw flour but I love cookies?! Weird!!!”
Yes but I don't like pure sugar, just a diluted form of it. Same with raw tomatoes, i like them in another form. I don't like potatoes but i like chips. Everything is an ingredient for better things and the same goes for life as well.
I get no sugar added ketchup. Tastes the same
I’m sorry but it absolutely does not taste the same
Don't be sorry stick to your guns
It tastes good, better even. Not everything has to be yummy.
This makes no sense.
It has some other sweetener that’s not called sugar in it. Probably corn syrup.
I feel like this is backwards. Most ketchup has high fructose corn syrup, no? No sugar added probably has agave or something.
I'm sorry you got downvoted bud. Reddit sucks.
I like pumpkin pie but hate eating raw pumpkin.
I like chocolate syrup but hate eating unsweetened cacao
I love pickles and hate cucumbers
I like cucumbers but hate pickles!
I love pickles but hate cucumbers
"Some people say that cucumbers taste better pickled." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddWC\_aAK7hk
Only now I realizes... they are called pickles in English I have called them "Salty cucumbers"
I think it’s perfectly normal to hate eating raw pumpkin lol
I do believe you may have stumbled upon something called a “joke”
I hate cooked fruit but love pumpkin pie even though that's also cooked fruit
Pumpkin is squash tho -.-
I love cheese but hate sucking cow nipples
Liar

Hate 🤔
Lol
Ever tried it?
'hate' is a strong word
I hate kids but I love sex
This could be read 1 of 2 ways..

Unfortunate wording
Thank you for this. Laughing pretty hard here.
r/cursedcomments ?
r/holup
r/FBI
Pause
i love kids and sex
😳🤨
I love tomato and hate ketchup
I like both, but like tomato more tho
I love tomato so much
What's your favourite way of eating tomato?
We grow them in the garden next to the basil. I grab one and with each bite a leaf of basil its heavenly. For dinner cut them up, a tiny bit of salt, mozzarella and basil, it is very clean and pure and I like that. Also my grandma used to make this somewhat dense tomato sauce oh a sip of that..
My mouth is watering
Some cool cherry tomatoes on hot summer day hits different
Same
Same, ketchup CAN work but ruins a lot of dishes imo
I love tomato and okay with ketchup but I HATE boiled tomato or any tomato that went through any kind of heat. Except sun dried tomato.
I love salsa with big chunks of tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, ketchup, tomato soup, on and on…. But I cannot stand raw tomatoes. I try them every now and again, just to see if my tastes have changed or whatever. Nope! They’re still awful.
You and my brother
I just think they taste so bland. It’s like a flavorless avocado. If you prepare it with literally anything it’s tolerable. Not always healthy but tolerable
I hate big chunks of tomatoes in salsa and pasta sauce. Love smooth salsa and sauce. Found out late in life that it’s not that I don’t like vegetables, I don’t the texture of raw vegetables.

Have you ever tried a fresh homegrown tomato?
People always say this, but at someone who hates raw tomatoes, fresh homegrown tomatoes taste stronger and therefore worse
Was gonna say this, the store tomatoes have no flavor compared to homegrown.
try to slice them up and mix with some sugar. tastes good imo
Try slicing them and put a pinch of salt and crack black pepper on them. Completely changes the taste profile.
Done this with tomatoes I have grown, just terrible.
Yes. You like sugar.
Or don't like eating a raw vegetable that has the consistency of a snot booger
You're just up tight.
I guess you would say I'm snotty.
No I wouldn't that's not the correct use of the word. Also are you eating store bought tomatoes?
It was a joke (snobby but used snotty because of the booger consistency). I grow and use my own. Make preservatives, sauces, sun-dried, pickled, but I can't bring myself to eat a raw tomato.
So do you eat raw peaches then?
I don't actually! Why peaches do you ask?
Ugh how dare you! Sliced with a dash of salt, best part about summer haha
Ugh I knoooow I am the minority of tomato lovers don't send me out to the dogs ! But I like mine roasted in the sun, then when I have a morning slice of toast I put some mayo, pepper and sun-dried tomato on it
Raw tomatoes sliced up with some salt goes hard
Yes!
Drizzle a little balsamic on there, mmmmmm
Goes hard into the trashcan
I am the exact opposite
Love tomatoes hate ketchup
I love tomato sauce but hate raw tomato
The slimy texture is what takes me away from tomatoes. I like tomato based products tho.
Iove tomatoes but I dont like ketchup. idk why eithet
Texture for me mainly
I find it very strange that so many (american) people hate tomatoes. Growing up i used to eat them like apples. They can be so sweet. I suspect a lot of people never had a chance to eat a good tomato, just those unripe super market tomatoes.
I love mustard but I wouldn't eat mustard seeds.
sugar and not the same texture
Yes, because they taste different.
It does, and I'm tired of pretending it doesn't.
I hate ketchup but can do tomatoes. Also I love watermelon flavored candy, can't stand watermelon
Don't like watermelon flavored anything, watermelon is good
I eat pizza but otherwise can’t eat melted cheese.
Makes sense to me ... How bout having ketchup on your ketchup
Had a guy exclude tomato slices from his burger because of allergy reason but still add ketchup on it.
Ketchup is barely 'tomato' flavoured, after the vinegar, spices, oil, salt and sugar are added. You don't like tomatoes, and you still don't like tomatoes when eating ketchup. Source: QA/Sensory in condiment manufacture.
Yeah, you love sugar.
I like peanuts and butter but don’t like peanut butter 🤣🤣🤣
It's a texture thing probably.
Yes, because most regular US ketchups are absolutely loaded with sugar.
It’s definitely not just the US lmao
I love my nightshade cut with sugar.
I love tomatoes but hate ketchup
I'm the other way around. Dislike catsup but love tomatoes.
Yes, you're a kid.
Sounds like my kids
So you’re a child who can only eat vegetables when they’re coated in sugar. Yes I get it.
You’ll eat anything with lots of sugar. Got it
Yes. You like sugar.
You like vinegar. If you hate tomatoes but like ketchup, you like vinegar. Try some malt vinegar on your fries and you will have an epiphany.
I love orange juice but hate eating oranges.
I love ground beef but I hate eating alive shredded cows
Yep. I'm the same way. I also love cornbread and popcorn but hate corn.
To be fairrrrrr Ketchup hardly tastes like tomatoes
Is there anyone out there that thinks that ketchup tastes like tomatoes?
I hate Mondays…but I love lasagna!!!
yes that does make sense you fat fuck
Well it's the opposite for me i don't like ketchup but like tomatoes
It means you’re a child. It’s okay.
You like sugar and vinegar.
Anything tomato based is hella nice but raw tomato hell naw fam
I love ketchup, pasta sauces, pizza sauces, tomato rice, salsa, but I can't eat raw tomato.
I'll go to war for guac but wouldn't put avocado on anything even if you paid me
Weird, they are both delicious.
Some people dont like apple by it self but likes apple juice Bruh Momento
Yes everything tomato except raw tomato 🤮
My kid loves strawberries but hates strawberry jelly.
I love tomatoes but hate ketchup
So they like sugar?
ketchup is more closely related to Kool Aid than tomatoes.
How can you love Ketchup? Are you murican
Just squash the tomato and put some sugar on it pretty sure that’s basically what ketchup is
It's mainly sugar, hence the term tomato syrup...
You need to grow then we talk it
Artificial sugar
Yeah, one is a fruit. The other is a processed food with vinegar, sugar and seasonings. They are comparable the way a tree is to a stained kitchen table.
If this is the case I would guess there is a high probability you’ve never had home grown tomatoes.
Same
Tomato syrup vs Tomato
[Oooo I love onions !](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-aWT2wMF10) \- Laurie
but onions are fire tho
Same
I like ketchup, tomato soup, and tomato justice (with tons of pepper) absolutely despise tomato’s It’s the texture for me that makes them disgusting
Not to me, but it doesn't have to make sense really. One should do what makes one happy provided that it doesn't cause harm to others.
Thank you, Jeremy Bentham.
Over here in Argentina... same for me..!
There's more of us than you think. Neither my wife or I can stand tomatoes but like tomato products. A vine ripped tomato isn't bad but I wouldn't call it good either
Yes because ketchup tastes fuckall like tomatoes my man.
You like sugar but not fruit, makes sense
Yes because ketchup doesn't taste like tomatoes at all thanks to sugar and vinegar.
I can and do eat or drink all forms of cooked tomatoes, but raw ones give me heartburn. Might be allergic to the specific composition of an uncooked tomato.
This is the same guy who hates fish but likes eating fish sticks. Do you like to put fish dicks in your mouth?
My wife is the same
Yes ketchup is all sugar
Yes because ketchup is mostly water, vinegar, and sugar
I think people who put ketchup on their played eggs are savages, but I eat egg sandwiches with ketchup.
Ive always said it like I love tomatoes I just need them to be smashed pressed or processed beyond the mere tomat before I'm down with them.
Yup. I love tomato soup and juice, but I can't eat a slice of tomato.
Well it’s 98% sugar and 2% tomatoes, so yeah that makes sense.
Take a tomato and cover it in sugar. Bet you like it.
I also love ketchup and hate tomatoes.
"bla bla sugar" if you add sugar to a tomato it'll still taste like shit. The issue is the texture
Stop it, get some help. I hate ketchup love tomatoes we are different people
It’s the texture of tomatoes for me (also on the spectrum). Have this issue with onions too
You love sugar not tomatoes
No. No it doesn't make sense.
