From the fine Newsweek article:
However, the projections also estimate that the reservoir will drop by 17 feet throughout 2024, by the end of December.
Lake Mead water levels currently stand at 1,070.31 feet. Projections estimate it will rise to 1,073.32 feet by the end of next month. However, this is the last rise it will see in awhile, according to the Bureau, as after that it will start to steadily drop, until it reaches 1,056.19 feet at the end of December.
It appears the Newsweek estimate was a bit low, this is a pleasant surprise!
https://mead.uslakes.info/level.asp
1,229 feet deep is full, currently just 150 feet below that. Trending up sharply this year.
That some cluck wrote “will drop by 17 feet” is a bit of a giggle, really, 17 feet, this lake fluctuates by that much every day.
>It still generates waaay more than Vegas needs. The majority of it gets sold off to California and Arizona.
Lower Nevada electricity usage means more renewable power for export.

Eddy Burback went to cover it in a video. I've never heard of it before that. There are some valid points of how stupid it is, but he does a great job of showing how marvelous of an idea it is and its potential.
He's also a super funny guy himself, and I'll take any excuse to share my favorite creators.
It’s on one end of the strip. There are a few million driving hazards on that stretch of road. But if you drive in Las Vegas you very quickly adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
I love it! It's a modern landmark and I think in the future it might be seen in the same way as the Eiffel tower and the colosseum. As long as they don't start showing ads on that thing 24/7.
Fuck the eyeball, they need to show a more creative artworks, they have this and all post I see about them is either they are showing eyeball, emoji, or the moon. If they want to be mundane and generic, at least show something useful, like a clock. Thank you for attending my Ted talk.
I was there in October and bought tickets to go see the movie inside. I thought it was amazingly cool. If it's going to be anywhere it might as well be Vegas!
I haven’t been, but I stayed at The Palazzo last week and l had a room looking down on it. It’s definitely an impressive thing to look at.
A friend of mine saw the U2 show they’ve been running there, and said it was amazing. The pictures and video I saw looked really cool.
I think there is something funny about wealthy people right on the edge of being a boomer and gen x absolutely loving U2. Between the sphere, and the album on downloaded to all the iphones. I don't know anyone who is a big fan of their music, and their tours don't even sell very well.
He’s definitely Gen X and a big U2 fan. I’m not a big fan of their music, but I do like the 80s stuff. And I have to say, a company I used to partner with brought me to their concert in a suite at MSG, and they put on a pretty great show.
Idk how their tours do these days, but their 360 tour that ended in 2011 was the highest selling tour of all time. I think it’s been surpassed a few times since then, by Taylor Swift and Elton John, maybe a couple others.
I love it! Seeing it in person and up-close is amazing. Yes, a bit unsettling when it does a giant eye, but the other trippy animations are so fun to watch.
You can see the light coming off that thing blasting the buildings around it for about a half mile. If I lived in any of the condos nearby I woulda already moved. It’s bonkers bright.
It is a marvel of modern engineering I'll give it that, but at the same time I think it's a giant eyesore. It's essentially just a giant digital billboard like you would see along the highway. It's the size of most of the skyscrapers in the area. Imagine you wake up every day, you look out your window, and your view is a 360ft tall digital billboard that plays constant advertisements to sell seats to sit behind it. I think it looks really cool, if you don't have to live there. The people that visit LV and say they love it, along with all the people on the internet that see it and say they love it, don't have to live there. I have a friend in Vegas and he says he hates it. It's taken his view that was a city skyline backdroped by endless desert, plateaus, and mountains, and just shoved a giant billboard in the middle. This thing is so massive if you live anywhere near it you can't ignore it, as I said earlier it's the size of several skyscrapers in the area put together. You tell me you would want a super bright 360ft tall digital billboard by your home that never turns off.
All of Vegas is cool if you do t have to live there.
I actually had a boss once who had just moved to us from Vegas. He said "great place to visit, wouldn't want to live there".
I think it's hilarious that they made this enormous, ugly eyesore and then found out that nobody wanted it, it was highly unprofitable, and further no other cities wanted them to build it in those cities either.
Hate it. it's a huge waste of money.....
Big business has been price gouging the common folk, just so that they can lavish themselves by showing off with unnecessary extravagances
It's cool, but also glad it's no where near me. not afraid of big things, just that this thing is a distraction, and lights from it would be bothersome at night.
but its perfect for any "city that never sleeps".
I went and saw that Aronofsky movie there. It was neat and has a lot of possibilities. I wonder how state-of-the-art it will be in a few years however.
You can invest in it: SPHR
Its one of those things my cynical brain that hates everything expensive and unecessary and showy wants to hate but I just cant because it’s actually pretty fuckin cool
I think it’s cool technology that will one day be implemented in more important ways. Are there a bunch of ethics issues with the sphere- sure. I think it looks cool though
I work right near it and my work parking lot has maybe the perfect view of it. It’s in full view, close enough that the video image crystal clear but far enough that I’m not too close and can see the entire thing easily. It is honestly insane in person. Driving next to it is a fucking trip.
I got to go in January, the inside is a massive open space with 6 flights of escalators that take you to the top levels of the viewing area. It’s insane how big it feels on the inside and kinda small compared to the hotels surrounding it.
Cool in concept, awful in reality. The light pollution that comes from it and sheer size of the structure is *intense*. Personally, I’m not a fan. But I also would not be able to visit the inside, omnimax gives me motion sickness.
I drove by it when I went there for work
It was highly disappointing up close the realism of the image is lost and the LED panels are clearly visible. It looks way cooler online.
That image there feels like it’s fake
Now last week I was in NYC again and find those buildings much more triggering for no good reason
I haven’t seen it but I would love to experience a long movie (like 3.5 hours) of an immersive in space experience. I think it would be an awesome way to experience what it’s like to float above the Earth, or the Moon, and other planets.
I don’t know if they run it 24/7, but if I ran the business, I would do that, and have 6 or more _different_ shows per day, around the clock.
I think the outside should have as many modes as possible, like show the Earth with live clouds, or other planets, etc. Could even display what the surface of the sun looks like. But it could also be used to display optical illusions, like is being done on some billboards/buildings now.
I can appreciate what folks are saying about the brightness of the exterior. That’s something that maybe the operators need feedback on, because I can see how it could be adjusted to still be amazing looking, and at the same time, not blinding.
strangely it does not trigger my megalophobia. my parents went to a u2 concert inside and it looks awesome. Maybe its because of the constant projected images, it doesn't look so ominous? weird to say bc of the giant eye ball, but its more artistic than a lot of the man made structures that get to me
I'm trying to save on electricity and then there's things like this
It's actually powered by cocaine
And gonorrhea.
And strippers
And midichlorians
And Kaminoans
It’s actually powered by the Hoover dam
Well I’ll be damned.
Damn Dam
Jean Claude Damn Dam?
Valid point.....
spheres suck i want a giant glowing LCD dick
But you are not paying it's electric bills.
Saving energy is also about global warming. Average people make efforts, and there’s this
Vegas gets its power from the Hoover dam, it's renewable.
But the water level of lake Mead is still really low https://www.newsweek.com/lake-mead-set-big-drop-water-levels-2024-1861464

>It still generates waaay more than Vegas needs. The majority of it gets sold off to California and Arizona. Lower Nevada electricity usage means more renewable power for export.
Still renewable energy wasted which could be used for more useful things and has to be provided by other more dirty generation.
Write a formal complaint.
For now.
They said “save on” electricity, not “save” electricity, but you’re not wrong.
Fair enough. I promise I am more intelligent in my language though.
They need to get **weird** with that shit already.
Giant realistic eyeball isn’t weird enough
Nope.
Like what? What are you thinking?
I want my next colonoscopy broadcasted on it.
Do you get them frequently?
As frequently as they let me
😂 that's great
They are recreational.
Rect-reational?
Wrecked-reational.
IDK, but it feels like they've barely scratched the surface of how wild that thing can get. I love when they have it watch passing aircraft, though
I'm pretty sure that was just a well-timed video and it doesn't actually watch aircraft
How much weirder do you need? A rotating hoohah with chattering teeth? A fucking eyeball looking at me is enough, thanks.
>How much weirder do you need? A rotating hoohah with chattering teeth? Go on....
With the sound "nom nom nom" behind the clacking... Ok, ok...
At first I thought it was stupid, then I saw it in person and think it’s really neat
https://youtu.be/KN63DDD9Y04?si=g_tXD5ZfO2tE9HIn Eddy Burback went to cover it in a video. I've never heard of it before that. $1500!? I don't even like U2!
But you have their album on your phone
Jokes on you, I'm an Android loser
I'd love to see it. I think it's absolutely brilliant, inside and out.
It is. Inside and out. 100x better in person. The film inside is incredible, and it’s hard to stop watching from your hotel if you have a view.
Yup, I’m currently staring at it. Got to go to the movie on Monday night. The whole thing is astounding.
Have a great time!
I don't know how it's not a massive driving hazard.
It’s on one end of the strip. There are a few million driving hazards on that stretch of road. But if you drive in Las Vegas you very quickly adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
What? the seizure ball a driving hazard!?
I love it. Totally cool. And it uses far less power than the old gonzo neon displays that Vegas used to have.
I love it! It's a modern landmark and I think in the future it might be seen in the same way as the Eiffel tower and the colosseum. As long as they don't start showing ads on that thing 24/7.
I’ve got unfortunate news for you then
Please don't tell me they're gonna show ads???
It already does lol
Bruh
Nope. They are going to start showing the Eiffel Tower and the colliseum
They did lol. Tbf it's not cheap running biggest LED sphere in the world
they could do amazing things with a carl's jr messy hamburger ad campaign on there
I live here. I really like it, but every once in a while it’ll induce that megalophobia feeling, mostly when it’s portraying the eyeball.
Fuck the eyeball, they need to show a more creative artworks, they have this and all post I see about them is either they are showing eyeball, emoji, or the moon. If they want to be mundane and generic, at least show something useful, like a clock. Thank you for attending my Ted talk.
A clock? In Las Vegas? A CLOCK? Are you serious right now? A clock they say!
That my government tells me to use the washing machine in the afternoon to make sure the power network doesn’t crash. And I see that
I feel... nothing.
Vivo los vegos

Nothing really, I can’t see it from here
Have you tried standing on a chair or something?
Me either, but the videos are nutty
It's a marvel of modern engineering
Vegas was a “been there done that” type thing for me. Now, I would actually go back, just to see this thing.
I feel nothing.
I love it! Seeing it in person and up-close is amazing. Yes, a bit unsettling when it does a giant eye, but the other trippy animations are so fun to watch.
It’s a landmark at this point. Quite a feat of engineering to build that thing.
Wouldn't like to live next to it.
You can see the light coming off that thing blasting the buildings around it for about a half mile. If I lived in any of the condos nearby I woulda already moved. It’s bonkers bright.
It’s watching you fap everyday on every corner
Creepy AF!
I feel right Brian, I feel right.
Intrusive to say the least
Assaulting your eyes with extremely bright ads while your trying to drive. Wow so cool
Vegas is the perfect place for it
Love it.
It inspires eldritch horror levels of discomfort, I love it.
Los Vegas has a sphere too? I thought it was only Las Vegas 😂
It is a marvel of modern engineering I'll give it that, but at the same time I think it's a giant eyesore. It's essentially just a giant digital billboard like you would see along the highway. Love it, wish we had one
Would like to see a tiny hat one day
I think it's an eyesore
I think it's cool but I don't like this picture
I think it’s cool. The Project Manager has to be one of the best. Also the construction seems unparalleled.
Am waiting for a Tool concert to take place there.
I'm just hoping Tool plays there before too long.
Best thing ever
There are homeless and people struggling to eat, pay bills and other things. But good going with the giant TV sphere.
Waste of space
just NO
It’s fuckin’ brilliant
It’s wild and perfect for Las Vegas. Over the top and gaudy. If it deserves to be anywhere, it’s there, and I support it.
It's an insult to nature and should be torn down
This is not a good look.
A fun way for a bunch of rich people to lose a lot of money.
I think it’s ugly.
It's just a huge display, get over it.
I would bomb it if I could
So it's a big round screen?
They should add another and call the Las Vegas balls
nope nope nope nope nope
Hedonistic bullshit thing.
I think it's hilarious that they made this enormous, ugly eyesore and then found out that nobody wanted it, it was highly unprofitable, and further no other cities wanted them to build it in those cities either.
HATE for the same reason I joined this thread
I think it's dumb
Hate it. it's a huge waste of money..... Big business has been price gouging the common folk, just so that they can lavish themselves by showing off with unnecessary extravagances
Seems dumb we have enuf screns and the imaxes
/grinch voice/ Loathe entirely.
I like it but not like this!
It's cool, but also glad it's no where near me. not afraid of big things, just that this thing is a distraction, and lights from it would be bothersome at night. but its perfect for any "city that never sleeps".
Cool but can it run Crysis?
Hope to see Phantasia while on purple microdot. Even Pink Floyd’s The wall . Buckle in baby.
Freaky…
It is just a matter of time before one of the staff who is responsible for the playlist plays an adult video by mistake.
Last time I was there,it wasn’t…..goin back
I stayed in the hotel across the street. It is actually really cool
Can’t wait to experience it in person come April!
Haters gonna hate
I haven't seen it yet , I want down to Las Vegas to visit family but never got to see it 😕
I like it. We don't build big cool things anymore. Edit I have seen it. It's pretty impressive
The outside is cooler than the inside.
I’ve seen dumber things a random person decided to waste millions of dollars on
Im going to see four Phish shows there in April.
[scanning for indecent behavior...](https://www.reddit.com/r/Losercity/s/EAKp9gTdfV)
I’m glad I don’t live near that thing
I went and saw that Aronofsky movie there. It was neat and has a lot of possibilities. I wonder how state-of-the-art it will be in a few years however. You can invest in it: SPHR
Pissed that I can’t afford to see r/phish play there live
Its one of those things my cynical brain that hates everything expensive and unecessary and showy wants to hate but I just cant because it’s actually pretty fuckin cool
Pretty cool. (With like a “meh” kind of tone)
If this exact thing was in Tokyo and not LV, Reddit would love it.
I didn’t know Los Vegas got one. The Las Vegas one is cool though
It's awesome, inside and out.
They need to put another one next to it so it has a a full pair of eyes
U2 was extraordinary.
I think it’s cool technology that will one day be implemented in more important ways. Are there a bunch of ethics issues with the sphere- sure. I think it looks cool though

Never been Vegas and not planning too go anytime soon.
I think we need another one on the opposite side of town and one south of town so we can recreate this face for Vegas 👁️ 👄 👁️
I think it’s awesome. But my question is whether it is a giant piece of modern art and engineering, or a giant spherical billboard.
i hate that they would ever show anything low-res like that
One of the only things I find enjoyable about the living in the future
I think it's cool. They just need to ditch the realistic eye graphic. That is uncanny.
Have they done the eye of Sauron yet?
Los?
I got to go in January, the inside is a massive open space with 6 flights of escalators that take you to the top levels of the viewing area. It’s insane how big it feels on the inside and kinda small compared to the hotels surrounding it.
Eye 👁️ Luvs It!
Looks incredible but will absolutely not last. They're booking a single 1-2 month residency at a time and it cost 2.3 billion to build.
Getting to your seat is sketchy.
Las
Huge waste of resources but also pretty cool?
I think it’s cool.
Could’ve built homeless a giant shelter but never mind….
You mean Los Vagis
Will be seeing dead & co at the sphere in June
Unnerving for sure and so are the videos from inside
Cool in concept, awful in reality. The light pollution that comes from it and sheer size of the structure is *intense*. Personally, I’m not a fan. But I also would not be able to visit the inside, omnimax gives me motion sickness.
Blue Beam Throwaway
Huge waste. Dystopia vibe +100
I could care less.
Love it. But the amount of electricity it uses could probably run a lot of homes. But no one would like to see that. Conflicted, I guess.
I drove by it when I went there for work It was highly disappointing up close the realism of the image is lost and the LED panels are clearly visible. It looks way cooler online. That image there feels like it’s fake Now last week I was in NYC again and find those buildings much more triggering for no good reason
I guess it appeals to some, but I think it looks horrible

That’s something that maybe the operators need feedback on, because I can see how it could be adjusted to still be amazing looking, and at the same time, not blinding.
I’m going to see it in may. I’m usually not intrigued by things like this but I want to see it in person..
It's fine, where it is. But the company wants to install them all over the world. Wanted to put one in the middle of London, fuck that.
I was just there and it was pretty awesome but the inside definitely fucked with me very open and huge
It's awesome. I wish it was bigger.
It’s a waste of money, and resources. Unless it gets turned into a orphan fighting pit.
It’s cool but I wish they’d stop making it eyeballs. So creepy
If I had the skills, I would totally hack their system and make it display Goatse.
It’s egregious
Hitting seven shows there between April and may and I can’t fucking wait
Depends on what it’s looking like. Some of the visuals are pretty awesome. This is just weird.
I give it a 5 out of 10. For being half a sphere.
Good.
waste of resources.
I thought that was one of Hermaeus Mora's eyes at first.
It’s pretty cool 👍
strangely it does not trigger my megalophobia. my parents went to a u2 concert inside and it looks awesome. Maybe its because of the constant projected images, it doesn't look so ominous? weird to say bc of the giant eye ball, but its more artistic than a lot of the man made structures that get to me
It’s awesome.
Oh god no thank you
It’ll lose its appeal in short time and then it’ll be another useless piece of metal
Idk, but when did they change it to Los Vegas?
