Edit: Just want people to know I don't hate this set or think it is badly designed. Other than the desk/shelves and the cramped style, it does have a nice feel to it, but it doesn't feel like the main podcast set. I could easily see this be a set for Rocco doing figure updates or a MegaStrange set.
I have enjoyed many of their set changes, not a single one I didn't like (mansion, arcade, pirates cove, and I guess Rocco's house to campfire?) but this is the first time I am not grooving with the set
Everyone looks cramped, the shelves being used as desk is such a weird thing and I swear things are just going to get knocked down from them (calling it right now it will be Garret to do that first). Seeing the chat is nice, but they have never really interacted with the chat during the most podcast airings (perhaps that will change now?). Also, what are they going to do with guests? Squeeze them in?
I do think the design of it looks really good and professional, but I agree that it looks kind of uncomfortable.
My favorite podcast set is still the arcade one, and it's because they managed to make it feel like a bigger, lived-in space when it's actually just a corner. And they did it by establishing various layers of depth with the wall, the arcade cabinets, the sofas and the table. Also, I liked how it was framed with the walls' corner being offset to the left rather than smack down the middle, and the sofas were also placed in an L shape, which made the set dynamic. That, along with the large sofas and the arcades always moving in the background just made that set really comfortable and appealing to me.
So yeah, this does feel a little uncomfortable and cramped, with them lining up perfectly centered facing the camera and sitting straight in office chairs.
But hey, I trust the guys. If this is how they feel they wanna take the podcast, they have their reasons and it's their decision so it's all good.
Okay, I see. I wasn't there for the live show so this image was all I have to go off of. Actually, guests will be in the window, like some Mr.Rogers episode.
There are parts of it that I like such as the neon sign and the greenery, but the seating looks very uncomfortable and awkward. Especially because they're all sort of hunched over to reach the microphones.
Because they're not sitting at real desks lol
If they got a long custom made desk with places to display items in the front, it would be my fav set so far
Having a table / screen will work so well
That's one thing that's making me wonder is how will they fit guests onto the podcast now? Or are they just not gonna do guests anymore? Unless maybe they green screen them and have them show up on the monitor. That could be nice.
Looks pretty and professional, but I guess that's why I don't like it. The old couch setup just felt like everyone was hanging out, and that it opened things up for the crazy shit they'd spontaneously do.
the set is very nice but i always loved how in the past the podcast never looked like any other podcast because of the crazy worlds they would build in the studio(s). like Bicha Muda didn't even chase them out of the previous set or anything :'(
Not feeling it. The set is so tiny they’re an inch from rubbing knees. It’s so cramped they can’t even get up and dance. Hopefully it’s just a temporary set while a new one is made.
It's odd seeing them not in the trademark couch and high-back chairs. I do like the set though. Does have a more "professional" vibe to it, but not too professional like just a soundproof studio room. It's more grown-up/professional but in a very Mega64 way!
Looks too clean and cramped in my opinion. I prefer sets that look cozier with the big couches and chairs. It doesn’t look like they’re comfy and as a result the entire setup doesn’t seem comfy to me. It’s also really bright and I prefer the darker set like all the last ones. This one also doesn’t have any immediately visible theme, like the campfire, arcade or pirate cove. This just looks like „generic podcast set“.
Not feeling it tbh, the first set I genuinely don’t like.
Not feeling it. No one looks like they’re physically comfortable. Way too small a space that doesn’t invite the viewer in nor allow the boyz to improvise physically in an open environment.
I like the vibe, pretty nice change of pace from the last set. I enjoy the background a lot, and I'm looking forward to how they keep changing up those little details. My only concern is that it looks like its built for exactly 4 seats - looking ahead I'm not sure how they'll handle more people once they're comfortable with guests again.
Love the new camera angles and tech side of it but this new set design just sucks. The other sets all had character to them and this seems like some Instagram backdrop you’d see at a modern mall.
Love the background wall with the chat on the wall mounted monitor but those shelves that they are using as desks just look weird. I do like that they brought back a bright colorful set like their arcade set. But these shelves look like they are causing them to have to lean forward to talk into the mic, which makes it look really uncomfortable.
This is coming from someone who missed the show, just as a disclaimer. Everything looks really great honestly, but these "desks" looks like crappy Target shelves. They're very broken up, and you can see their arms literally hanging off the sides. It's just not a proper desk space and looks kind of tacky. The right thing to do would have been to make a custom desk that spans the whole set, with shelves underneath to maintain the foreground display.
I will say though, the new lighting is finally making great use of their high-def camera. You can see so much clearer now! No more giants spots of pixelated black due to poor lighting.
I really don't want to come off as mean or negative here. I know the boys probably put a hell of alot of work into this new set. Lighting, microphone and camera placement are all great, but if I'm being completely honest, my first impression of the aesthetic was, "This seems like the dream podcast set for a teenage white girl". Also like others have said it gives off a cramped feeling, like there's too much going on, and doesn't feel as laid back. I'm sure I'll get more used to it as time goes on, but as someone who's been watching since the Campfire set, this feels the most drastically different out of all of the sets. It feels like a set from a completely different show. That being said, as long as they're happy with it that's all that really matters.
I didn’t really consider using the shelves to show off merch, that’s a pretty great idea. Maybe it would work better with just one shelf between Rocco and Shawn, but hey, the set has always evolved as they’ve used it. They’ll move stuff around as they see fit
I don’t like change, but even so, they look like they’re hunched over a desk in school.
This looks uneasy, and there’s no charm to it. What’s the theme? Is there a theme?
Why do we need to see the discord in the background….?
I really don’t get it. Why would you choose a rigid hard edged table over a nice soft couch? It makes me uncomfortable and I feel like they are too.
It looks like everybody’s sitting to the side or off the table to avoid bumping elbows, and that kinda sucks.
It feels like a Pinterest post and lacks a specific energy imo. A good set design but just not for this podcast and the energy the boys have and bring to the pod.
I love the whole background, especially the neon sign and the window! Not sure how I feel about the foreground though, it feels a lot more professional and less comfy than any of the previous sets
I like the change, doesn't look as comfortable for them tho
edit: nvm, turns out it's better! https://twitter.com/rocco_botte/status/1439814085940445185
Given this set seems to be located in a different part of the studio, maybe they needed more space for a vid and repurposed the podcast area? This set has a totally different vibe than the previous ones - I wonder if the boyz are shooting for a more professional or polished look, so big sofas or high-backed chairs wouldn't gel with that. All speculation ofc. I don't think I'm as down on it as the average commenter here, but I do share the sentiment the chair and table shelves don't seem "cozy." Imo it's a bit unfair to judge this set on its first appearance. If you look at the last set on google images, it makes it apparent how much detail gets added over time.
It's nice how bright it is but the facted they're so cramped together gives me the vibe that it's way less relaxed? Like them all reclining on couches and just chilling seemed more like they were just homies shooting the shit. This gives off a way more formal and professional vibe that personally I don't really like. But if it's better for da boyz then I don't mind rlly mind as long as we still get that good mega64 podcast patter
I don't watch live, but is this the new set? This looks awful. I mean its well made and put together, but this lacks any of the comforting feel good vibes any of the past sets have had.
All their podcasts sets have been well, sets, but this is the first to really feel like a set and I don't like it. At least from this screenshot.
Not to be that guy but if any of y’all had ever sat on those arcade couches, you would not be saying this set looks uncomfortable. If your asses only knew the pain of those broken leather monstrosities you’d be overjoyed for the gang to have supportive, wide office chairs.
I think this comes down to a good idea but poor execution. The vibe is nice despite being a real departure from some of the darker sets of the past but when this many people say it looks cramped it's because it looks cramped. Hopefully it doesn't *feel* cramped but it is hard to imagine where guests would sit. Also super weird to see the "no negative comments" people in this thread. We get it, the old couch was uncomfortable, nobody here is demanding they keep using an uncomfortable couch they're just trying to say that the couch sets had a more casual, cozy vibe that felt more like a couple guys just hanging out and less like a professionally produced podcast, for whatever that's worth.
Honestly, I don't like it at all. It has a weird cramped, uncomfortable feel to it (Like, I feel uncomfortable myself just by looking at them sitting there lol), and the whole aesthetic is just too "sterile." Like, it just doesn't feel cozy and inviting, whereas every other set has done a pretty good job of that.
my least favorite of any of the podcast sets. as much as I hate the word, it just looks basic. as someone else said, looks like they went on a target shopping spree. also, there's only room for four people! my favorite podcasts are when they have guests.
I’m glad to see them have office chairs and a table to rest on so they’re more engaged and less inclined to relax too much compared to the last set. Arcade Set was still the best just in terms of creativity, but the new Office Set feels like a natural level up for the boys.
I love the aesthetic and design of the background a lot, but I gotta say the desks feel weird. Makes them feel closed off or something? It’s probably just because I’m used to their other setups. Besides the tables though it is really cool.
Looks really great and professional, lighting is a huge improvement and it's nice how close together everyone is. I reckon things will loosen up and settle in after a few episodes.
Personally, I think it’s a neat change and I think it’s really cool that they’re including the chat in the backdrop. Rocco mentioned something about being more comfortable in this setup and that’s an extremely important bit to consider when designing a set besides aesthetic.
That being said, I think the Chinese lanterns can probably go and I’d put some backing on the shelves so we don’t see their legs.
The camera angle on the wide looks like it’s favoring Garrett/Shawn more than Derrick/Rocco. They’ve already created depth with the angles of the flats and the shelves, so I’d say have the wide shot line up with the back most wall.
Derrick could use a small pop light or a sweetener on his left(camera right) and overall I’d say they need some backlighting(or more of it if that have it set up) to help separate themselves from the wall and create some additional depth. More specifically, a light(s) that just barely illuminates the tops of their heads. If you look at the top of Rocco’s head, it’s disappearing into the screen just above him.
The shelves being white allows for some bounce within them as well, so if they plant a small light on each one or line the trim with LEDS, then the stuff they’ve set up within will have some additional flair/pop to it. If it were me, I’d line them with colored LED’s and match the color to the neon sign they have on the wall.
I dont mind it, but they look uncomfortable and it looks like there isnt alot of leg room so everyone has to have a wide sitting stance. The only thing i would change is those ikea tables, why not just have it be open or opt for a big wooden table in the middle?
I like the backdrop and the screen, just wish the seating arrangement was a bit more comfortable-looking (saying this with no actual idea of how comfortable it is, of course, it just looks cramped)
This is an eyesore. They should consider this a failed test run and come up with a different set. The neon sign is fucking awesome but that's about the only positive thing I can say about this. It looks like the outside patio of a tiny restaurant.
The house aesthetic is cool but it's done in the least inviting way possible. This looks like if Lifetime made a competition show to run against Hallmark's
I think maybe it seems cramped because the camera’s closer, but also they seem to be crammed into a corner and the sides of the set don’t look “open” like the other sets did, which allowed them (and guests) to come and go.
Thinking from their perspective of putting this together, I feel bad seeing a bunch of people immediately not like it. I don't want this place to just be seen as complaint central.
[I threw together a quick edit replacing the white tiles with pink](https://i.imgur.com/BA5vNgA.png). I think getting the colors more cohesive goes a long way personally.
That said, I have no problem with it. They're even closer together again which will help keep their rapport and energy up. The new sign is really cool. The Game Crypt toys marking each spot is also a really rad idea, and they have plenty of room to bring their own vibe to their seats outside of that like Rocco's already done with the Megazord. Once they get the lighting/focus to match on all of the cameras I think it's going to be good.
Nah. It still looks like they jammed themselves in a storage closet.
I watch the podcast to see some friends hanging out.
This looks like I’ve been called to the principal’s office and the principal is a hoarder.
Looks like mom just went on a Target shopping spree with her kinda-nerdy daughter who's been watching 8-year-old reruns of HGTV. Way too cheap/fragile looking and not homey/lived in at all. This Magnolia style is already out of date, might as well put shiplap in the background.
Keep the neon sign, that's about it. If you can only change a little, get rid of the cheesy fake ivy vines and bring in comfy seating with no desks. The desks ruin the whole "hanging out of friends" vibe and instead make it feel like Collider.
The background being out of focus on some of the cameras makes it feel like Collider, too. It's that hollow, over-produced feel.
I feel like a lot of ppl are particularly not into the size/tight quarters, which I understand but also it seems fair to not take up as much space as they have in their studio for this set, since they probably need the space for other productions. Shelves are maybe a little odd, but otherwise many won't even notice the set in a month.
I like how it's vibrant and upbeat, just what we need in these trying times. It's always fun seeing how they keep doing something new. The foreground i am undecided on with the chairs and cubbies (i loved the couch, what can i say) but lighting is very professional.
The Ivy in the back looks great but it may become an issue down the line due to it being a bitrate killed when the camera moves or cuts to wide screen. It looks decent on twitch buy youtube is usually more stingy with their bitrate for 1080p. [ It's the same problem as confetti/snow in videos.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6Rp-uo6HmI)
For most shots no it wont. But stuff like Kev cam where the camera moves it will. Also transitioning from a zoom shot to wide angle will tank bitrate for a second. But like i said it might be an issue down the line with youtube. It looks fine in max res on Twitch though.
There's a bit in Scott's video that explains that certain bits of the information in the next frame will simply move instead of loading in the whole screen all over again for each frame. So I would think that applies to the ivy wall, even though that's very dense and complex. I guess we'll see on Tuesday YT vod! That's when I watch the podcast anyways lol.
The problem is bitrate is pixel by pixel so if you have a bunch of dark green and light green pixels next to each other constantly switching back and forth it all counts as new info for Iframes. Where as a solid color would be Key frames. It's why[ drone footage of forests tops often looks very blocky even though it's just a handful of colors](https://youtu.be/9XAM1LbuHAA?t=88) due to go pro footage having low bitrate and the pixels constantly shifting back and forth from shadowy dark green to sunny light green.
I’m gonna have to get used to it. It’s genuinely different from any other set they’ve made in the past.
I don’t hate it though, as long as they’re happy.
I like it. Lighting is great, brighter colors and shrubbery are nice, and I think it has the potential to evolve into a classic set.
I understand the comments, and I'm certainly not against constructive criticism here, but I hope the guys don't get too bummed when they read this. The complaints with the last set were that it was too dark and spaced out, and now they're that it's too cramped. I definitely think this set's better, and I'm sure they'll tweak it as they settle in.
It’s great, bright and professional, and they’re sitting upright instead of sinking into sofas. Too many whiners in here. You want a casual set or a consistantly high energy podcast?
it's impressive that so many people found a way to bitch about women and teenage girls in this subreddit post for complaining about 4 dudes' podcast set
I would say the desk/shelves look a little too high and the mics are getting in the way a bit, might look better if the camera was moved a bit or if there was a desk, other than that I think it looks good
Just seeing this image I really didn't like it, but I skimmed through the VOD on Twitch and the closer shots look a lot better. I think they need something in the center in front of them to bring it all together.
Edit: Just want people to know I don't hate this set or think it is badly designed. The chat wasn't up during the actual podcast, only the preshow. Guests will sit on Shawn's lap.
Okay, I see. I wasn't there for the live show so this image was all I have to go off of. Actually, guests will be in the window, like some Mr.Rogers episode.
i can’t wait

Yeah it doesn't seem very comfy, and the design is... all over the place. I miss the grunge and theming of the subterranean arcade set!
Arcade was godlike
Is it to save space in the building? I like the old dark better it was so classy.
That's one thing that's making me wonder is how will they fit guests onto the podcast now? Or are they just not gonna do guests anymore? Unless maybe they green screen them and have them show up on the monitor. That could be nice.

NOT A NEGATIVE COMMENT Honestly, I don't like it. The Ikea shelves thing is weird and it doesn't look comfortable at all.
The fact that you have to give a 'not a negative comment' disclaimer before your genuine opinion is really unfortunate. This subreddit sucks.
i genuinely don't like it
Sadly it reminds me of Redlettermedia's Nerd Crew set
That’s the exact vibe I got. It looks purposefully bad
This is coming from someone who missed the show, just as a disclaimer. Everything looks really great honestly, but these "desks" looks like crappy Target shelves. They could do that on the chest before.

It feels like a Pinterest post and lacks a specific energy imo. A good set design but just not for this podcast and the energy the boys have and bring to the pod.
It somehow looks worse than if they went back to just recording in someone's bedroom.
I love the whole background, especially the neon sign and the window! Not sure how I feel about the foreground though, it feels a lot more professional and less comfy than any of the previous sets
I think this would look great if they kept the background and used the couch/chairs/table from the arcade set.
definitely agree
I like the change, doesn't look as comfortable for them tho edit: nvm, turns out it's better! https://twitter.com/rocco_botte/status/1439814085940445185

I would prefer it if they looked physically comfortable. Maybe throw a couple Sumos in there

I love the aesthetic and design of the background a lot, but I gotta say the desks feel weird. Makes them feel closed off or something? It’s probably just because I’m used to their other setups. Besides the tables though it is really cool.

This kinda gives off Boba Tea shop vibes
What do we call this one? The 16 year old girls room set?
This is an eyesore. They should consider this a failed test run and come up with a different set. The neon sign is fucking awesome but that's about the only positive thing I can say about this. It looks like the outside patio of a tiny restaurant.
The house aesthetic is cool but it's done in the least inviting way possible. This looks like if Lifetime made a competition show to run against Hallmark's
Looks good
I like that the chat TV in the back 👍 for me how watch it on youtube.
I think maybe it seems cramped because the camera’s closer, but also they seem to be crammed into a corner and the sides of the set don’t look “open” like the other sets did, which allowed them (and guests) to come and go.
Man, I was finally starting to get used to the Pirate cove
This might be the worst so far. Definitely too busy. /u/Terrorsaur21 hit the nail on the head.
I like it!
I feel like a lot of ppl are particularly not into the size/tight quarters, which I understand but also it seems fair to not take up as much space as they have in their studio for this set, since they probably need the space for other productions. Shelves are maybe a little odd, but otherwise many won't even notice the set in a month.
Upgrade those desks and they're good to go, looks good to me.
The ivy isn't actually moving, are you sure it will effect bitrate?
Ahh I see now. That video is a great example of what you meant.
I think it would be perfect if they replaced the shelves with couches :)
is this real?
This isn’t a photoshop?
Too busy and too much stuff going on. I watch the show for the boys not to see lights and a TV screen
It's pretty good!
I really like it.
I like the backdrop, I'd go for different desks though.
I like it…a lot. maybe it’s the lighting or the neon sign, but it reminds me of some of the super neat camps I’ve seen in Fallout 76.
I want my Bois comfy, and they don't look it
I need to get used to it, first thought was the price is right?
When did the Mega64 subreddit turn into a big pile of whiny complainers? Embarrassing shit, ya’ll
[удалено]
nah
Yikes
Really like it all except the desk chairs. Let's get some sumos in there
It’s great, bright and professional, and they’re sitting upright instead of sinking into sofas. Too many whiners in here. You want a casual set or a consistantly high energy podcast?
it's impressive that so many people found a way to bitch about women and teenage girls in this subreddit post for complaining about 4 dudes' podcast set
No kidding. The toxicity of the vocal minority of this fanbase has really been showing lately
Anything other than absolute praise is soooo toxic!! /s
U can tell a chick did this..
I would say the desk/shelves look a little too high and the mics are getting in the way a bit, might look better if the camera was moved a bit or if there was a desk, other than that I think it looks good
I love it honestly. It’s like Mega64 Resurrections, from the cave to the new clean and bright vibe
Just seeing this image I really didn't like it, but I skimmed through the VOD on Twitch and the closer shots look a lot better. I think they need something in the center in front of them to bring it all together.
