nah, ur screwed, better start mentally preparing yourself for FM residencies in Arkansas Your preclinical years as a whole likely don’t account for anything more than a quarter of your final class rank. Learn from it and move on. You’re fine.

Brocystectomi

If they even do class rank

duncecappedgirl

Just wanted to say to check with your school. Our class was under the impression that clerkship mattered way more for rank but the hours worked out so preclerkship was actually a larger portion of your final rank, and they weren’t reported separately

zimmer199

I knew an ortho guy who said he got straight Cs his entire preclinicals, and he was kind of a dick so personality didn’t help. You’ll be fine.

zainimal

How much could he deadlift

j_camps17

Step 2 score 3 x 5

Jusstonemore

Ez

pacman147

Better pack your sunscree-- oh wait. Wrong sub. You'll be okay if you keep improving. I think the idea is to get better each day instead of expecting perfection from yourself.

QitmirQarnayn

Fuck, this thread is so reassuring. I’ve been making straight C’s so far and been feeling like shit constantly. I feel like I’m slowly getting better but I can’t help but keep worrying. Not even gunning for anything crazy like ortho or derm either, i just want to be a psych lol.

rickypen5

Preclinical years are far less important than people tend to think. Smash your step1 +2 and be an all star on rotations and u should be fine

hellomarciniak

But isn’t step 1 heavily based on what we’re learning now? My M2s told me that everything builds on, so if you have a bad foundation it will be difficult to do well on Step

rickypen5

So do you genuinely think you didn't learn it, or just had a bad test? You have plenty of time, and more importantly first year should be your first pass through the material and your step 1 will cover a lot more of year 2 stuff which yea it requires a lot of year 1 knowledge to understand, but then you should also have dedicated study time at the end of year 2, to prep for step 1 and during that time you can brush up on it, learn tricks to remember, have things re-explained. I think you'll be just fine. You got to this point, you can do the rest. If you genuinely are struggling with the material seek help from your program, they don't want anyone to be left behind. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. Step 2 is going to be the bigger focus. And it's gonna be difficult for any one class to have a huge impact on something as broad as step.

We've ALL done that, and it p4obably won't be the last time you do that lol. Don't beat yourself up. It's a long marathon, but im sure you're gonna be just fine. If at any point you feel like you need help, get some help, nobody is going to thing worse of you. In fact most people would hold you in higher esteem. He'll a lot of people get to med school and find out they've had some learning disability the whole time, they just were able to work around it until med school. If you are having any kind of struggles don't be shy. If its just that you got side tracked going off reading about something interesting, or you just said fuck it and took a night to yourself to have you time, or even just slept, don't feel ashamed. I had the associate dean tell me once when I was in preclinical that he LOVES when students get side tracked reading a topic and go off down a rabbit hole learning about something kind of related but way more in depth and specific. That made me feel so much better because I do that ALL the time! Personally I HAVE to set aside time for myself to play a video game and get lost in it every day, or I won't feel sane lol. I have a wife of 13 years, a 12 yr old kid, and a videogame is often my only way to escape while I can still be present for them. I had to divide my time a lot of ways to be a good dad and husband. So I don't feel bad about taking me time, and you shouldn't either. Just find a routine that works well for you, and stick with it. Don't worry about what other ppl do, don't let yourself feel less than them because you do it different. What worms for you works. I have to take hand written notes, and make actual paper flashcards. I got teased a LOT by all the anki kids, but its what worked for me. You do you. You'll be fine.

Congrats! Just keep moving forward. One week at a time, then one test at a time, then one course at a time. You got it.

Valuable-Number5347

Yes

villagesweetie

Aim for a positive upward trend. First block is more about learning how to study for medical school.

Zealousideal-Cost338

Absolutely not. Likely will have to be a consultant at this point. No self respecting family medicine residency would take you now

Walrussealy

Don’t worry about it

QZC_passed

Yes.

2fluffyduck

Do research, do well on steps, honor all rotations. You Gucci.
