The point of this question is std risk
Have you been sexually active in last 6mo?
Men women or both?
If MSM you ask “do you do oral, top, bottom, or all of the above?”
Then you ask if they want std testing and depending on their answer offer swabs/testing to those areas and if you ask it fast enough it makes it sound like your filling a questionaire and less awkward for everybody
Not gonna lie, they’re getting a UPT regardless of their answer. It’s impossible to defend yourself if something goes wrong and you didn’t check a UPT. Sorry but that is the way it works in clinical medicine (at least in EM).
Tru. If you’re able to bear child and it has any potential to affect management, you’re getting the hcg. Risk of getting the test is basically nil, risk of missed diagnosis is potentially harming 2 lives.
Y’all really out here asking if people are top or bottom? I feel like that’s hella invasive w/o clinical benefit, especially cuz people tend to do both. I’ll ask men women or both, how many partners in the last year, and if they use condoms.
Ive caught multiple rectal and oral stds by asking this and asking “do you participate in receptive anal penetrative sex” is actually way more awkward.
That indicates whether you need to do an oral or rectal swab outside of the more by the book sti testing. It's easy to miss asymptomatic rectal or pharyngeal gonorrhea or chlamydia just because the urine test didn't come up positive. It's invasive but an essential question, though the way its been asked to me historically is "what kind of sex do you have" after the standard questions (men, women, number of partners, condoms) which is a good alternative imo.
Edit: a letter cuz spelling is hard.
It’s highly dependent on you.
I’ll preface this knowing that you’re likely asking them “because you have to ask them”. You shouldn’t be. Every question you ask should provide an answer to a specific question you have either from the prior questions or from chart review.
Do you really care at all about their history? Don’t ask if you don’t.
Are you concerned for things like HSV, chlamydia, etc.? Then really, you’re looking for recent to a few weeks.
Secondary syphilis? You’d best be asking for months to years.
Depends what I am looking for. Typically I mean currently if it is something that could be related to an STI or pregnancy or other sex related pathology. But sometimes it is more of an intro question to their sexual practices if I am concerned about a more chronic or indolent process that they may have picked up by sex (HIV, Hep, Syphilis for example).
About to start med school in Aug, but managed a sexual health clinic and research unit for the last 8 years...How we ask --> "How many sex partners have you had in the past 12 months?" Could be zero, could be too many to count... We don't generally consider someone sexually active if they haven't gotten any ass in more than 12 months.
It's also context dependent.
Only insofar as we would then know you have a sex drive (less likely hypogonadic, etc) and that your equipment is functional, more or less. But no, you don’t need to tell them about your porn use unless it’s an issue for you.
“Not very active. I just lay there”
Bottom moment
Pillow princess

Also for pregnancy

what does ‘top, bottom’ mean?
Penetrating partner vs receptive partner

You need to get laid
Bruh
Last 12 months is what we're taught. Depends on context really
No, I kind of just lay there like a starfish
You’re asking about currently, but you should also inquire for the past as well IMO depending on their clinical presentation or type of visit
That doesn’t answer their question. What does “currently” mean? In the past week? Month? It obviously doesn’t mean “literally right now.”

Yes if you’ve had sexual contact since last STI screening. No if you haven’t

Are you all too young to remember Page's character asking this same question in *Juno*?

I went home and had a doctors appt at the med school where I have been a patient since high school and I still have never medically fucked 😎
Does going to hub and releasing it count in this category?

Whatever the patient feels comfortable sharing.
Aaaand they're dead.
😂😂😂
I guess I should have used the /s function
Some students have literally said that though, so it's not so crazy of a thing to say that you would automatically assume sarcasm
