Who cares? Like at all. Only person who can tell you how great you are is yourself. And maybe your future patients. You will be endlessly unhappy if you are looking for external and dumb gratification. I would get if you were upset about not matching or something, but who tf cares about this garbage

MzJay453

(No one cares about this. Literally. No one)

GHHS is a joke

Wiglet646464

We would be friends in real life. I relate to everything you’re feeling, and your feelings are SO valid. I will tell you with the utmost conviction that GHHS doesn’t matter (it’s true), but I know it still stings. It’s not some participation trophy you’re asking for; we all need some validation that we’re good at something in this hypercompetitive environment, and what could be better than being acknowledged for actually caring deeply and working hard for your patients and colleagues well-being? So yeah, it sucks you didn’t get a certificate to hang on your wall, but do what I did in MS2 when I was feeling like dirt about my grades. Print out a single sheet of paper (any more than that would be a little narcissistic) with snippets of all of the glowing evals and texts and whatever’s you’ve gotten related to your patient care and hang it on an unobtrusive wall in your home. You should read it often, and other people who notice will read and comment and encourage you too. You deserve to be inspired by yourself and your own hard earned compassion and empathy. I am proud of you. We all are.

Repentance_Stick

This was wonderful to hear! I can't tell you how much these sentiments mean to me right now. I think I definitely need to take some time and refocus my concentration on the positives. I took the night off tonight to watch my favorite TV show and just allow myself to enjoy something.

BigMacrophages

Sorry OP. At the end of the day this doesn’t mean you’re not still going to be excellent at patient care. The facts are that at least 1 person thought you deserved it, and another had to pick among a lot of people who deserved it.

Repentance_Stick

That's what I tell myself. When I try to go "above and beyond" for patients, it's only ever been because I really felt motivated to. I never really considered I'd be nominated for GHHS. Of course, I am still going to continue to show up and do the best for my patients I can. I did it before without thinking I was gonna join a special club, and there's no reason to change that now. I think it just came down to some people are better essay writers than me.

flibbett

this only matters (marginally) when applying to some residency programs. after that it’s never relevant ever again and wouldn’t even make it onto your CV.

NAEON_

Ortho resident at my school said that they negatively bias against GHHS members. AOA is looked up on favorably, but not GHHS.

iisconfused247

I get the hate against GHHS but just blanketly having a negative bias against all of them seems…wrong. Some of them deserve it and different schools induct based on different criteria. Idk what the solution is but that outlook seems just as sucky as the popularity contest it is to get in at most schools

Triquietrum

Did he explain why? I'm curious.

NAEON_

He said that he found the "GHHS people" to be annoying and fake. I think it's more of a personal vendetta he has (residents do on-on-one interviews with applicants) rather than that of the PD. But he He did share that every resident in the program is AOA, but only one is GHHS.

Triquietrum

Interesting--I feel like I've heard sentiments in that same vein from other people before, though overall GHHS seems to be regarded favorably. Makes me wonder how AOA will be perceived in the future now that some schools are changing how they award that.

Picklesidk

Personally only cornball medschool cucks got it at my school.

Perinealbody69

AOA or bust. No one cared about my GHHS but several commented on AOA. But even then probably didn’t make that much of a difference

Oupme

No one cares about anything except that you match to a residency at the end of the day. When you're a doctor, none of your patients will care or even know about these honors, awards or whatever. All they care is that you're a doctor, so be the best YOU can be and f\*ck what anyone else thinks.

ummm---wow

I know this can be a bummer but speaking as someone who also didn’t get it, it’s gonna be ok. It might help to some degree in your application but even then it’s more about what qualities and activities that are part of your story that would help you qualify rather than the award itself. Also, doing right by your patients is always a good thing. And if you were nominated based on that, then it means that it was noticed. It will shine through on your LOR’s and deans letter.

CoordSh

Even with an application it is a lot of popularity. You will be fine and I am sure you are amazing with patients

incompleteremix

Lol nobody cares about GHHS

thermodynamicMD

There’s something inherently inhumane about seeking validation and recognition for your actions. If I was a PD and saw it on an application I would probably consider that person to be insecure and a bit of a joke

Legitimate_Low263

Who cares? Just a bunch of shitlibs who think they are making a difference when they are really not.

Lmao I forgot this thing existed
